Comfortable, affordable, vintage cottage in the heart of avalon
Left on 08/25/2013 for a stay in August 2013 | Family Values
This was our first family trip to Catalina and Civr was absolutely great to work with.
The office staff was very helpful and accommodating!
We arrived to the island on a morning boat and asked for early check in. The office gladly took our cell # and called as soon as our house was cleaned and ready. We were thrilled!
The house has a perfect location, easy 5 minute walk to everything in avalon.
The house has a vintage feel that was very warm and comfortable. We were very happy with the size for our family of 5. The kitchen was stocked with all the necessities and even had a back porch charcoal BBQ . The linens were fresh and clean. Both bedroom closets were stocked with blankets, pillows, extra towels and fans. The furniture is dated, but family friendly and clean. I would give 4 stars if the mattresses were more comfortable. The 2 twins are good, but the double and couch mattresses should be replaced. We made the best of it, but a queen mattress would definately be more comfortable for couples.
This house is not luxury, but it works well for an everyday family happy to be on a beautiful Island.
We all enjoyed our stay at 338 Descanso, We would definitely stay here again!
Overall it was a perfect location, quiet, clean, comfortable, affordable and family friendly :)
old house but glad to have used it

This my first time using Catalina Island Vacation Rentals and I was very glad to get a house because all of the other ones I found were full and they were the only ones that had a house that would be able to accommodate our party size and the lady on the phone that helped me with the reservation was pretty nice.
However, for the house that we stayed at (338 Descanso if its okay to share) was kind of old. And I have nothing against old houses its just that the doors inside the house didn't close all the way. One of the closet doors was very hard to open (this one had the extra pillows so kinda important). Out of the 4 pillows on the beds (and more in the closet) only 1 had a pillow case and no other pillow cases to be found. The towels were a bit thin and probably need to be turned into rags. We didn't use any of the kitchen appliances so I don't have any idea how well they work (except the fridge) but the fridge was a bit rusty on the ouside (is that too nitpicky? sorry if it is) and the couch was fairly comfortable but the two seats next to it... the cushions definitely need replacing. The bedrooms of the house are the ones that there were two rooms (you have to walk through one to get to the other) and one of the rooms had a full sized bed - but only width-wise and length-wise it was like a child's bed! So odd that they would have such a small bed.
But the office staff seemed nice enough. The check-in and check-out was painless and again we were very glad to get a house for the weekend.
Fun and Comfortable but no Privacy

I stayed here with a small group of friends for my birthday. The house was clean, comfortable and fairly close-- it wasn't right on the strip, but we're young and able-bodied, so we didn't mind walking 3 blocks. Overall, we enjoyed our trip and I'd *definitely* stay here again (but probably in the off-season when its more affordable).
My only complaint is that I didn't like the layout of house. The two twin beds are in the back room. The middle room had a (smallish) full bed. This means the people in the full bed are privy to people walking through all the time. Makes no sense, as the twin beds clearly need less privacy, so they should be in the middle, rather than the back.
However, other than that, our stay was very pleasant and fun. Had a great time.
It was a fantastic place!

We loved the house--it had two tv's with dvd players so kids could watch their movies and shows in the bedroom. The other big advantage was that it had a small yard with barbecue--we were lucky as there was a family next door who also had young children so the kids could play together in the combined yards and not out front. It was a convenient location to the beach. Super service from Catalina Vacation Rentals!

Though the location is older, it was still comfortable. All amenities were available and the stay was nice.

A weekend getaway and a lifetime memory

The entire family enjoyed a beautiful weekend in Catalina Island. We rented a two bedroom house that accomodated all six of us comfortably. We arrived early and Catalina Island Vacation rentals had our place ready and available to check in upon our arrival. The house was clean and had all the amenities that we expected. It was a short walk to the water, shops, restaurants, etc., but far enough away from all the noise. We are already planning our next getaway to Catalina Island and we will utilize Catalina Island Vacation Rentals to find us a house to stay in. Thank you for helping our family create a memory to treasure forever.

Great place. All you need to bring is your adventurous spirit and it's complete. I loved the fact that I had plenty of space to store my dive gear. I always hated dealing with the hotels on the island regarding all my gear.
Great place to get away.
Great Family Cottage!

This house worked out perfect for us. I used to come to Catalina with my family when I was a little girl and remember such wonderful times. It's such a great place for adults and kids to get a vacation. We got married while we were there too! The house worked perfect and I would rent it again. You have to get used to the tandum bedroom but usually by the time we got home the kids were pretty worn out so they went right to sleep anyways. The price was perfect for what we were looking for.
