San Clemente354 Descanso, A Clean Older Home
Left on 09/27/2012 for a stay in September 2012
The house itself is nice, older but fairly well kept.
The bedrooms have tiny tv sets with VCR? Really?
It is in a rather unkempt part of avalon.
The house to the immediate north is apparently a rental and rundown, dirty kids and dogs always out front. Just north of that house is an old rundown apartment building with trash all around out front.
Avalon itself offers little in transportation, you can only rent a golf cart for 2 hours and 354 Descanso is at the top of the 3rd block from the bay, making for quite a hike to and from.
The other main problem with avalon is the sewer bacteria infested water making swimming out of the question.
Good for angie Bera pointing that out. Would not recommend the house until the neighboring houses are cleaned up and avalon's sewer system is replaced. -

Claremont, CaAs advertised
Left on 07/01/2012 for a stay in June 2012
There were no surprises as the property was exactly as advertised on the web site. I knew ahead of time, what the property could and could not provide therefore, there were no surprises or disappointments.
The check in process was quick and efficient, and the property is cenrally located to all avalon has to offer. -

Las VegasEasy and fun
Left on 05/25/2012 for a stay in May 2012
Our stay at 354 Descano was very pleasant! Very roomy for such a small house. We had 4 couples and we had plenty of space except having to share 1 bathroom. The decor was very outdated and old but was still cozy and quaint. We had an amazing experience and would recommend staying at this property, if you don't mind the walk ;)

We really enjoyed our stay in Catalina and can not wait to go back. The little house was just perfect for the 6 of us and the price was right too! We were happy with the location and the homes around us were friendly and helpful the entire time we were there.

354 DescansoA very special way to start the new year.
Left on 01/09/2010 for a stay in December 2009
354 Descanso was a very thing I had hope for in a cosy place to bring in the new year. My family enjoyed the 5 night stay in a truly wonderful home. Great for entertaining and great for just simply kicking back enjoying the time together making a special family memory. We had planned to wake up on New Year's Day to enjoy the Rose Parade and the Bowl Games to follow. We were so pleasantly surprised to find a newly installed large screen TV...it was like someone had read our minds. We found the home warm, cozy, and great attention to detail to make you feel at home. Winter vacation at Catalina, why not!

San Diego, CAComfy, cozy home, just steps from the beach
Left on 01/22/2009 for a stay in July 2008
Our family just fell in love with this cute and comfy little home, just steps from the beach and horse back riding.
We stayed for a week in July as part of my daughters 9th birthday celebration. She LOVED the house -- full of books, games, boogey boards and beach toys. We snorkeled, fished, went horseback riding, barbecued fresh-caught fish fillets, and made home-made fish tacos in the very well-appointed kitchen.
While the home is small, the rooms were very comfortable - not crowded - and very quiet. The table-top fans came in handy on warm days and evenings.
For those who require internet access, they do have a dial-up connection setup in the home, but if you prefer wireless, there is a nice spot on side porch, just outside the laundry-room that gets pretty good wireless reception.
The neighborhood is lovely -- and the neighbors were so welcoming. One neighbor even offered to share his street-side barbecue with us, and cooked our chicken for us. Thank you Dennis!
We will be back, and recommend this home to everyone we know.
-- a side note: the description above reads "families only, with no children" I believe when we rented it, the description read "Families only. with no PETS." Which to me, makes more sense, since it is hard to have a family -- with no children. -

San Diego, CaFamily Weekend
Left on 01/08/2009 for a stay in October 2008
We had just returned from Hawaiia, from a very hectic week and wanted to spent a little time with the family and felt, what more than Catalina Island. With the wonderful weather and to have relaxation at your fingure tips.
This is the first time we had stayed in a vacation rental home.
The house was clean, Old fashion, and very close to the town center. Walking is perfect
in this case, less than a mile to the town Center.
The first contact with the rental agent, was very pleasent, whilist obtaining a rental agreement from me but when in reality, the after sales, poor. When collecting the keys from the office, office personel needs to have more training in customers service. Poor attitude when asked for locations and entertainment for the evening. Not what you would expect!
Catalina Island, great to let your hair down..
Prices seem rather high compaired to the mainland...could be expected some say..
Restaurants, Looks good, service good, food
fair and prices high. Also watch out if you have a party of 6, that also means counting childern under 3, with 18 to 20 percent for tipping, could push the budget over, if your not expecting this.
A Great time was had by all.I did return to the mainland, with weight loss, mostly from the back pocket.
Here 3 more rentals located nearby.
