San Diego, CALovely condo and great view.
Left on 09/20/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We had a great time here with our 2 year old. The only complaint is the beds are extremely hard. The condo is updated in style but the mattresses are not the best. This did not effect our visit, but we would not return to this particular condo due to that issue. Hamilton Cove is fabulous! and Descanso Beach is a must!

could have been a perfect vacation but...
San fernando Valleycould have been good except no air conditioning
Left on 09/12/2012 for a stay in September 2012
The view is fantastic. The stay could have been nice and perfect for a family birthday vacation but no alternative for cooling. The price is too much for uncomfortable stay. We could have been inform ahead of time that the unit has no air condition.
We didn't get any sleep. We had to keep all windows and doors open, still hot. My daughter got sick, it so unconfortable.
The rooms has no privacy. There's no locks on the bedrooms and bathrooms. One bathroom without door wide open is on the master bedroom.
We could have enjoyed cooking our own meal but all pots are old that we dont feel safe using it. Pots have teflon coating but it's all scratched. It is not safe mixing teflon with food.Response from Catalina Island Vacation Rentals - 01/28/2013

Dear Guest,
Thanks for your response. None of our Hamilton Cove Villas have air conditioning in them. It was unseasonably warm here during that time. We do our best to make sure all of our properties have a sufficient number of fans for cooling.
We did speak with the owner and they have upgraded their cookware.
Please call us again and we can work with you to find the ideal property for you and your family.

Los AngelesVery good villa, cart is not great
Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We used two other villas this summer and this was the worst golf cart. On the second day it just stopped, had to call maintenance and they got us replacement for a day. It is very noisy and smelly, no other carts were like that, I am assuming it was much older.
Sise wise, we stayed in a much bogger two bedroom before for the same amount of money. -

OCNot very Clean... Disappointing
Left on 08/15/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We have stayed in Hamilton cove the last several Summers... and it has always been in a really clean top notch property... So for the high cost, we still felt it was worth it... However, this year, we stayed in Unit 17-80. It was unkept and dirty, and had Motel 6 like furnishings and upgrades. Of Course the View and the rest of Hamilton Cove was Beautiful, but I would not recommend this unit, and would not stay there again. It was not worth it. And my entire family was disappointed.

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We have been coming to HC and renting this unit for many years starting with 3 days and staying 10 this year. There is no other place like it on the Calif. coast and so accessible. As you say on the post card it's like a number of places on the Mediterainian where we have stayed. And now there are a few good restaurants in town. Our children are now coming for a few days each year and taking advantage of the 2nd and bath. The recent interior redecorate makes it even more comfortable.

Left on 08/24/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Hamilton Cove is a beautiful complex, very mediterranean like. However, this particular unit is in dire need of new beds. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and literaly falling apart. The sofa bed stuffing is coming out of the sides and was pretty much unusable. There is a roll-away bed, but that too is aged and there isn't any cushion on top of the coils. There is a king bed in the master that is disintegrating from underneath. It's a shame as the place is beautiful, just needs some TLC. I highly recommend Hamilton Cove, just not this particular villa. A few new mattresses would go a long way and well worth the investment!

This Villa was wonderful! My only complaint was the fact that the beds were a little hard. The rest was absolutely perfect. I never wanted to leave the patio because of the postcard view. The rooms were huge and everything was spacious. We actually got married on the little beach area so Hamilton Cove Villas now have a special place in our hearts.

17-80We had a great weekend
Left on 04/22/2010 for a stay in April 2010
Although a little dated, this unit was in good shape, everything worked, and
the beds were very comfortable. Thank you!
We picked Catalina Vacation Rentals Inc. because Hamilton wanted me to
overnight them a cashier's check for the payment in full since we made the
reservation with less than a week's notice. We thought that was nuts. Catalina
Vacation Rentals had no problem taking a credit card.
Regarding the actual unit - we liked the location. The golf cart - would have
been nice if it had plastic curtains since it was pretty cold in the evening. We
used the BBQ; the fridge was large and clean, the bathrooms had plenty of
towels, TP, etc. We used the pool, the golf course, and the workout room. All
in all, it's hard to have a bad time in Avalon. -

Riverside, CaliforniaBeautiful View of the Villas and the fresh ocean breeze in 17-80
Left on 04/14/2010 for a stay in April 2010
We loved the view and the location of the villa.
There were a few things that could have been
better.
The sink in the kitchen doesn't drain (hardly at
all). The dining room chairs are about to break, as
well as the bar stools. We were scared to sit on
them much. The dishes were ALL dirty (food still
in them) so we washed everything we used first,
including the towels and linens. They smelled like
an aquarium. Also found the linens/towels still in
the washing machine (we assume from Villa 17-81)
and they were smelling bad). We dried them and
folded them in the chair in the laundry room. No
one ever came back for them-they were still in the
laundry room the day we left. There was an empty
package of cookies under the large cushion
(table/footrest) in front of the couch. These are
things we think should be taken care of, but other
than that the place is great! -

Thousand Oaks kCAI dont quite "get" Hamilton Cove
Left on 01/21/2010 for a stay in December 2009
The Catalina Island Vacation Rental staff was terrific. Easy check in and out. Also we had problems with the golf cart and manager loaned us a Hamilton Cove cart and waived the requirment to fill it with gas o departure.
I think unit 17-80 is marginal. Furniture old--one dining room chair is ready to collapse--sofa bed has poor mattress--wooden window blinds allow too much light in early morning--and as mentioned above the golf cart needed work. A weird thing to me is that although the door to the master bedroom suite can be locked, there is NO door on it's bathroom. If you like bathroom privacy [as I do] this is not the place for you.
I never been to Catalina before and I just dont get the Hamilton Cove thing. To me it's an isolated bunch of cliff dwellers with no possibility of even buying a quart of milk or a loaf of bread without going into to town. If you have kids with you keep them from the common balcony--we had a complaint from a neighboring unit that I thought was unoccupied. I rarely saw anyone around the complex.
Anyway if I return to Catalina,I will try something closer to town.
p.s. I just dont understand why the people of Catalina put up with the absurd situation of having to make a long, difficult trip in order to buy gas from the only station on the island which has very short open hours.and why Hamilton Cove doesnt make some arrangements to allow residents to buy gasoline more easily. -

I really enjoy staying at the Hamilton Cove Villas, this was our 3rd year coming here.
We love the atmosphere, it feels like we are at the other end of the world. We love the ocean view, and all the amenities the villas include especially the golf carts, they come in handy when we go into town.
The management company was wonderful by letting us check earlier than expected.
My only complaint is that the furniture was outdated and looked fairly used up, the veranda needed to be washed down, other than that, we will definately go back next year. -

Not worth the money. Stayed at Hamilton Cove before so we were excited about our trip. We stayed 5 nights. The condo is a great layout with beautiful veiws. Downfall-definately lacking in upkeep. The carpets had big stains thruout and were filty in the main living area. The linens on beds were old and worn and the 5 towels,1 washcloth and 2 handtowels for 5 people for 5days were like sandpaper. We visit Catalina yearly and I can honestly say I wouldnt reserve 17-80 again.

Left on 07/01/2009 for a stay in June 2009
When we rented this villa 17-80 I fully expected some updates to be necessary. I did not expect it to be in the condition it was for the price we paid. Total $1000. for 2 nights including all taxes and fees. Below are a list of items that we found unacceptable.
Smell of urine in the Master Bed and Living Room especially upon pulling out the sofa bed.
Unacceptable linens for the sofa bed. God knows when the blankets had been washed as they were stained. Additional pillow in master closet was completely stained and disgusting.
All remotes did not work properly if at all.
Doors and windows did not work properly and many windows were missing screens. With no A/c is was imperative to be able to open windows.
2 towels left per bathroom with no additional. We are a family of 5 staying for 2 nights.
No additional toilet paper. We ran out the 2nd night. No additional supplies under sink, in closets, anywhere.
Golf Cart, barely working. I am frankly surprised it made it up any of the hills.
Carpets were disgusting and filthy. I would not walk around barefoot.
While we did like Hamilton Cove and would consider renting a different unit I would think twice before renting from Catalina Vacation Rentals. I don't understand how they could allow a unit in this condition to be rented. -

Taking a virtual tour of the place it seemed attractive, but reality was horrible. The place smelled like meldew, water was dripping from the master suite all night long, the fake plants looked like they had been ran over with a truck, I've stayed in other rentals in Hamilton Cove that made be go wow, but this was very, very sad. =(. For what you pay it's not worth it, this one stay topped the cake.

Palm Desert CAIt is important who you rent from
Left on 12/19/2008 for a stay in July 2008
full. The girl that I talked to at Vacation RentaSometimes it is more important who you rent from than where you rent. I rented from Catalina Island Vacation Rentals. This is the first time I have used them. I usually rent from Hunt & Associates Realtors, but they did not have anything at Hamilton Cove for my extended stay on the dates I required. I understand that Catalina Vacation Rentals is the new kid on the block, about three years. Here are the problems I had: 1-Golf cart gas was not full. I was told in writing that when you leave, the golf cart gas tank had to be dals said, Oh! we don't require that you fill the tank. 2-towels in the bathroom were shredded on the ends. 3-Carpet was spotted. 4-Bed pillow, as my wife said, looked like it had been urinated on. 5-Cobwebs over a foot long hanging from the ceiling. 6-Screens missing from windows, looked like someone tried to break in. 7-Second doors on both french doors were broken. You get the idea, Catalina Island Vacation Rentals did not seem to. I have been going to Catalina for over 25 years & you would think for over $500.00 a y you might get better service. Nothing was ever done the time we were there to correct the problems. After this stay I have been back to Catalina twice & with Hunt Realtors have had none of these problems.

We were highly disappointed with this rental. I am not a snob when it comes to rentals, but I do expect it to be clean. The furniture and carpets were filthy. I suggest that the owners get rid of the carpet and tile this place. The sofa bed was a joke for even my 80 lb 11yo to sleep on. The so called extra bed was a blow up mattress...we have fond memories of the island and it's wonders, but not our rental. I suggested to the rental company not to rent this unit out again until it has had some attention paid to it...this is not something that housekeeping can take care of, the owners need to put some money into this place to make it worth the $300 plus it charges per night. Feel free to contact me for any further information.
