This rental would have gotten 5 stars except that the unit was situated smack in the middle of a very tall, multi level complex with many steep stairs to get to the unit. It was challenging enough for myself, a fairly fit 40 something, but we had my father in law along and he is in his 60's so it was a little rough. The unit is nicely appointed and has a great view. I wish I knew of the stairs prior to booking

I am in us for 5+ Years and i never wrote a review about any place, but this is a place where i cant write a review about, If you go to Catalina stay in Hamilton Cove this is what i can say. Name it you will have it in Hamilton Cove and the carts which are provided my the management along with the rentals are very hand to reach out to avalon. Initially i was not happy with the Villa i got upon talking to Civr they have immediately changed my Villa i was very much impressed and when we ran out of propane this guy reached to us in 10 minutes. Service is very very good

Left on 09/12/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We knew the unit involved 60-70 steps but the reality didn't sink in until we had to carry our luggage and groceries! Would look for units with less steps if possible. The view was great and the furnishings and kitchen supplies were very adequate. Our only real complaint was the bar-b-que. it really needs to be replaced. We ended up using the beach bar-b-ques after the first evening becausasthenosphere one in this unit was quite small and couldn't heat up enough to grill steaks or chicken.

I have stayed at Hamilton cove quite a few times. We enjoy the upscale feel and appreciate all that Hamilton cove offers for the price point. I must say though this unit felt unkept. The kitchen cabinets were dirty inside and contents highly disorganized. The front bedroom and bath smelled moldy and my sister in law was using her inhaler the entire stay. The furnishings are adequate, but would like the decor to reflect the feel of the complex, which it does not. Carpets are old and stained. Old 80's wicker furnishings and sun faded silk plants that should have been thrown out a long time ago, certainly don't make you feel like your'e getting what you've paid for. Since you asked, I am givi g constructive criticism in hopes that improvements are made and all parties concerened will ultimatley get what they are looking for out of a vacation rental experience

CaliforniaHamilton Cove Villa 2-30 was not that nice
Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This is my 3rd year in your resort but unfortunately this villa was not that good. 1st, there were no shades in the living room and we nearly boiled in there.
2nd the toilets in the rest rooms were not working well.
3rd the sofa bed was not straight and we had to report it and actually they sent someone to fix it.
The grill was not working well...I love Hamilton cove that's why I will come again next year but my main request will be not to stay in this villa... -

Left on 07/29/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Went with five girlfriends and we rented adjoining units at Hamilton Cove. Occasion was 50th Birthday party. Fabulous as always. I've been to Catalina four times over the past ten years. First two times in town-- last two at Hamilton Cove. On an aesthetic level, nothing compares to the Cove. It's like being in Mexico or Hawaii. Each apartment/condo has a huge terrace that looks dead out towards the water. Great for barbecues and family gatherings. Hamilton Cove is also better for practical reasons because: You get your own kitchen. You get your own golf cart. There is croquet and a putting green. There's a pool. Someone in town told us that the golf cart actually makes Hamilton Cove a better deal than you might pay in town. The cost of golf cart rentals runs high. Plus, the cart makes it so much more fun!

I was a little concerned reserving a place on line with just a few pictures, but this place far exceeded our expectations. Yes, it was a little pricey...more-so than we wanted to spend...but we have no regrets. It was so beautiful and so relaxing. We just couldn't stop looking at the view. We never got tired of it. And we stayed 7 nights!!! It is a little noisy at times. You can hear the neighbors above and beside from time to time. But it didn't take away the pleasure of this vacation. We'll be back.

To me, this condo was very expensive for what you get. You are really paying for the view and lodging in a captive market, so you don't really have a choice. Catalina is awesome, but I had higher expectations for the property. There are lots of stairs to this unit (64 to be exact) so if you have people who don't around so well, don't pick this one. You pay $100 cleaning fee, but still have to wash your own dishes and take out your own trash. Check in is inconvenient because you do it in town, then have to take a taxi out to the property to get your golf cart. Check out is worse, as you have to be out by 10 am (ridiculous) and call a cab to come get you when 200 other people are trying to get out as well. Needless to say, I ended up walking back to town because I couldn't get a cab. However, they were nice enough to give me a one night rental when everywhere else required two, and the place is clean enough. They have their own beach (very rocky) and a nice pool.

San Diego, CAWe had a great time.

We came to Catalina because my husband had recently had surgery. We needed a place that he could feel like he was on vacation and be comfortable even though he could not get out much. We also wanted to entertain two teenagers. Hamilton cove offered the perfect solution. Lots of amenities for the teens. They enjoyed the pool, beach and exercise room and bar-b-ques on the balcony. The sheer beauty of the views and beach were an inspiration to all. The stairs were a bit difficult to negotiate for my husband, but once situated he had an enjoyable and relaxed recuperation. We all enjoyed the long weekend.

Manhattan BeachHamilton Cove Condos - Is it worth it to stay there?
Left on 07/15/2010 for a stay in July 2010
This is our 10th year spending July 4th at Hamilton Cove. We share the experience with 6 other families. We love being there because of the camaraderie. But, each time I promise my family we'll stay at a nicer condo next year. So far I haven't found it! The basic facilities are wonderful and the pool, dock, golf course and tennis courts are great for the kids. But my family is very picky and they always miss the comfort, cleanliness and amenities of upscale resorts for the same price. If anyone knows of a condo at HC or in avalon with sleek design, dependable toilets, sweet smelling kitchens and flatscreens, please share! Thanks, E Myers

Running Springs & Pasadena, CAGreat Place! Loved the Condo!
Left on 05/02/2010 for a stay in April 2010
We really loved it! It was clean, comfortable, had a fantastic view, was well-stocked, nicely decorated, came with puzzles, games and putting clubs and had lots of room. We were happy to have the golf cart; good TV; nice to have a big table on the deck and the barbecue, which worked well. Being close to the pool was also a plus. We would definitely ask for 2-30 again.
Only concern was the CIVR originally wanted to charge us an extra cleaning fee because we left recyclables in the kitchen where CIVR personnel had told us to leave them because there was no recycling bin with the regular trash bins outside. They finally agreed to return the second cleaning charge. -

The Hamilton Cove Villas are very cool! The complex is a beautiful sight from every angle. We enjoyed our stay at Hamilton Cove 2-30 very much--the place was very nice and roomy. It was nice to have a grill as well as the washer/dryer.
We got our exercise walking up and down the steps--but the view made it all worth it.
I would recommend renting from Catalina Island Vacation Rentals and staying at Hamilton Cove 2-30 to anyone! -

We enjoyed the lovely tropical decor - especially the sea turtles! This is obviously a vacation home that has provided a great deal of pleasure for the owner's family and many others. The family even left a note allowing us to use the tennis rackets and golf clubs.
One suggestion though. The balcony view would be so much easier to enjoy if the table & chairs were higher to prevent the railing from blocking the ocean view. -

CIVR in Avalon is definately worth working with to plan your vacation experience on Catalina Island. From the first email they were courteous, helpful and prompt and didn't mind the endless flood of questions from east coasters who had never been to the island before. The Hamilton Cove complex as a whole is amazing...not a detail overlooked.
The pool, spa, gym, kids area, tennis, mini-golf, croquet and beaches were meticulously maintained and we enjoyed using every one to it's full potential. I also appreciated what appeared to be fairly tight security thru-out the complex, as well.
However, as for unit 2-30, when we visit again...which is already in the works by the way...I think we will look into a different unit.
Building 2 is spectacular, but the unit had many problems with plumbing as well as some other issues that were never addressed before we left.
We rent vacation properties often and always leave them as found...if not better. I can appreciate when CIVR lets the renters know to treat the unit as your own, however I would have appreciated it more if the owners had given us some of the same courtesy in return. Broken toilet, broken dishwasher, broken clothes dryer, broken phone, and quite dirty and the carpeted bathrooms and sticky kitchen left much to be desired. We would have liked to have had some much nicer pots and pans as well....we ended up eating out alot and spending a ton.
I don't mean to nit-pick. I am very grateful for the time we spend on Catalina, but didn't like the feel we were only funding someone else's dream.
So...Catalina - YES. Hamilton Cove - YES. Unit 2-30 - probably not again. Sorry. -

The view and location were perfect. Only complaint was the plumbing - toilets were a bit slow in flushing. The carpet in livingroom could have been a bit cleaner (big spot in front of TV.)
Otherwise, it was clean and the views were spectacular. Also loved the balcony with bbq grill. -

I have stayed at Ham coves several times, this time wasn't good, when we arrived, the door was not able to close or lock, which did not allow us to leave until the key guy came and fixed it. Towel racks in both bathrooms were falling from the walls, the condo was to suit four adults, there were only two wine glasses available, which had red wine still in them. AND I specifically asked Chay for a condo with few steps, ours had 70 or so, one of our partys was ill and stayed at the condo in lieu of climbing all the steps. And our carpets were very dirty with large stains, I won't easily convince people to return with us next year! Sorry, our first two stays in 2-46 were great, this time NOT.
