Description from the owner
La Maison Verte is a two-story village house facing South with a lovely long view over the village gardens towards the vineyards and the Corbieres Mountains.
The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one en-suite; a generous, well-stocked kitchen, two sitting rooms and a dining room which seats six. It also has electric heating, fireplaces and a wood burning stove.
French doors from the sittingroom lead onto the terrace which has a view over the garden; a heavenly place for glasses of cold wine and to watch the swallows wheeling amongst the ancient walls of the houses. There is a private, stone walled garden with a table...Read more

Additional Location Information
La Maison Verte is in the village of Caunes-Minervois, Languedoc. The village is sandwiched between the Black Mountains into which one can walk for days without seeing a soul, and the vineyards which sweep all the way down to the Mediterranean and hour away. It is 90 minutes from Toulouse, 3 hours from Barcelona, and twenty minutes from Carcassonne. There are airports at Toulouse, Carcassonne, Perpignan and Beziers. The village is tranquil and yet has restaurants and other amenities. The area is great for riding bikes, visiting the castles and traditional markets.
There is plenty of parking and there is a bus a few times a day. But it's more fun to have a car to be able to explore hill-top villages and ancient towns and villages.

Chelsea, Québec, CanadaA wonderful month in Caunes-Minervois
Left on 05/09/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We found La Maison Verte by searching the internet and got hooked immediately... a small typical village in Southern France, a lovely house with an old France feel to it, with access to lots of sites to visit, shopping and restaurants. We wanted to live a month "À la FranÇAise"... French food, French Wines and landscapes that defy description. So, we booked, time flew, we flew, and before we knew it we were welcomed by the two best hosts France can offer : Ingrid and Christopher.
We were given keys and a tour of the house, which should have taken 15 minutes but actually took over an hour because there was so much to appreciate in the decor, fine details, the terrace, the garden... in other words the house was way better than what had been shown on the internet site and we were immediatel in love, both with the house and our hosts.
Friends and family came to join us for part of the time and there was plenty of room for privacy as well as shared fun and dining.
The village and the area also have lots to offer, but I will not act as a tourist guide here. There are plenty of sites for that.
So how to conclude? Well in the words of my wife Monique: best vacation ever!Response from ingrid hudson - 05/10/2013

Melbourne AustraliaA lovely place to relax after a long period of travel in Europe
Left on 11/21/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed at La Maison Verte on the recommendation of our daughter who had previously stayed with Ingrid. The house was enchanting and around each corner was a surprise. Our six days there gave us lifetime memories that we hope we can repeat in the future. Choosing not to have a car made us walk and enjoy the village atmosphere in the narrow cobblestone streets and we managed to visit all the eating establishments.
The house with all its books and spacious areas to relax in, was perfect. Our hosts, Ingrid and Christopher could not have been more helpful or hospitable. We highly recommend La Maison Verte to everyone. -

Melbourne, AustraliaDelightful house in a very pretty and peaceful French village.
Left on 11/05/2012 for a stay in May 2012
La Maison Verte and Caunes Minervois are as pretty as the pictures even when the weather is unseasonally cold and wet as it was in late May this year .The house accomodated our group of four women very easily. There was an open fire in the lounge room which we did not use preferring the heater in the dining room that gave us cosy evenings and also helped us get our washing dry on the clothes horse. The whole house felt comfortable and there were heaters in the bedrooms that we did not use . Ingrid was most helpful from our very first email and patiently answered many questions. Her suggestion to have a meal cooked for us by a local cook was great, and indeed Linda provided us with two delicious and abundant evening meals that incuded plenty of vegetables. We did not have a car and pre booked the taxi to Carcasonne- this was not expensive as it held four people( and our luggage on our arrival and departure days ).There is a local bus but its timetable is limited . We loved walking around Caunes Minervois, the buildings and abbey are very photogenic, the gardens are pretty, the streets are quiet and the locals friendly .The sun did come out and we made the longer walk up the hill to the famous red Marble Quarry, the roadside was covered with wild flowers and wild herbs and the views were great - it was really delightful.
We pre booked a Vin en Vacances Wine Tour that left from Caunes Minervois , this allowed us to see much more of the countryside, little villages, boutique wineries and it was a great day.
La Maison Verte is special and staying there fulfilled lots of my dreams about living in a beautiful, little, old French village in the countryside. -

Belfast, Northern IrelandAn absolute delight!
Left on 07/23/2012 for a stay in July 2012
The very first moment we made online enquires about La Maison Verte, Ingrid responded immediately. For us this was a very good sign! She continued to promptly (and patiently) answer our many questions. We finally booked (2 adults and 2 teenagers)for a week in July 2012.
As promised Ingrid met us personally on our arrival in Caunes; one of the most beautiful French villages we have ever been in. She gave us a tour of the house, explained how things worked and made sure we knew how to contact her if we had any problems; a very personal and much appreciated service.
La Maison Verte is an absolute delight; so quirky and tastfully decorated. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with luxurious bedlinen and fluffy towels! The bathrooms (one ensuite) are spotlessly clean and the kitchen is such fun to cook in. Three reception rooms meant our teenagers could relax in their own space whilst we enjoyed chilling out in the gorgoeus little garden. There was nothing more enjoyable than coming back after a great day out and having a glass of wine or two in the garden or terrace (where we ate all of our meals).
Caunes Minervois is a great base for sight seeing. We particularly enjoyed visiting the mountain village of Minerve and Lastours (the four ancient forts). Our teenagers had great fun at the lake close to Carcassonne because of its small water adventure park.
With regard to eating out Hotel D'Alibert is a must. We celebrated our son's 18th birthday there. We sat in an ancient courtyard, enjoyed good food and had fun with the eccentic owner, Frederick.
La Maison Verte is highly recommended by us. -

This is the real thing. The house is quirky and colourful, comfortable and well equipped. The owners are warmly welcoming and a fount of information about where to go and what to see. We had a week of delights. We rode bikes on guiet country roads lined with poppies and cornflowers, the vines and golden wheatfields spread out around us. We visited Cathar castles and filled our baskets with food from local markets. We walked in the forest, we drank wine and ate too much cheese. We had the most wonderful week. I know we'll be back - this is our fourth visit and is definitely not our last one. Thanks so much Ingrid and Christopher.

Friend of mine rented this property in October for two weeks. I met up with them for 5 nights/6 days and fell in love with the house and its gardens. The house was well appointed and just so beautifully decorated that I keep using it as inspiration for my own vacation rental property in Niagara.
I wanted to review La Maison Verte when I returned but could not find it in the search. Now I have, even months later, my memories have not faded. It was wonderful!
Caunes-Minervois is a lovely town and we were well-located to do wine tours. I tell people about the house often and would return (or to one of Ingrid's other properties) if I was ever back in the area. -

Left on 10/21/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My husband, two friends and I stayed at La Maison Verte for two weeks in early October. We fell in love with the house, the village and the region. The house is spacious and elegantly decorated in French country sytle. The kitchen and bathrooms are equipped with all the modern conveniences and everything worked perfectly! Everything you need is included. We loved the spacious terraces on the many sunny days. The village has all the needed services and a great restaurant. The house is on a very small street but parking is convenient. We hope to return some day soon and would not hesitate to recommend La Maison Verte to anyone!

Left on 07/28/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We came here in June to spend the first week of a three week vacation in France and just did not want to leave. Staying in La Maison Verte is like living in one's dream of an ideal Provencal home. Every corner and every object is carefully chosen and lovely. The view from the bedrooms and the terraces includes beautiful trees, an ancient abbey, an amazing garden, Corbieres Mountains in the distance and then, in close-up, the tendrils of the Wisteria pergola ever trying to make their way into the edges of the window panes. From time to time, there is the smell of lavender. It really is quite dreamy.
On the practical side, the house is equipped with everything you need and more: salad spinners, proper knives, beautiful serving dishes, hair dryers, excellent appliances. Want to listen to Cd's, watch television, read a book?-no problem. All is here and in excellent working order. There are even novels by one of the award-winning author/owners of the property set in Caunes-Minervois-a rather unique add-on to our knowledge of the area .
Owners Ingrid and Christopher were so helpful in orienting us to the village. Where to shop, good places to eat, market days, and up and coming events quickly became part of our experience in this very authentic rural village of the Languedoc. It seemed each time that a local person learned that we were staying in Christopher and Ingrid's house, they were extra kind to us.
There are many interesting things to do nearby-the deservedly popular Carcassonne, the mountain town of Minerve, and a lazy two-hour, tree-lined cruise on the amazing Canal du Midi were some favorites.
Those who stay at La Maison Verte, are fortunate indeed.

LondonPossibly the loveliest place we have ever stayed in
Left on 03/13/2011 for a stay in September 2009
We came for a fortnight in June and could only bear to leave La Maison Verte and Caunes-Minervois by booking a further two weeks in September!
The house is a wonder, full of beautiful objects sourced by the owner Ingrid (who is a wonderfully helpful yet discreet host), and it has the feel of a home, rather than a rental - but one of the very loveliest homes we have stayed in.
Each room was full of bookshelves with the most diverting books. (We had been told not to bother to bring our own books by friends who had stayed previously and, for the first stay, had foolishly ignored this advice. Needless to say my books remained unread as I tore through La Maison Verte's!)
Mornings were spent reading in the garden under the shade of the loquat tree. Afternoons were spent exploring the wonderful countryside and towns around. We spent days by the sea (Bages is particularly pretty) and walked in the footsteps of the Cathars. Narbonne has a wonderful food market, as does Mirepoix. And of course, there is the grandeur of Carcassonne. But most of all, what we enjoyed best was coming "home" to a glass of wine on the terrace, shaded by wisteria and looking out towards the Pyrenees - and imagining that life could always be this way.
