Set in the winding streets below the Abbey, this house is in the heart of the village. It boasts a secluded garden, balcony with views of the river, ceilings a la provencale and three airy bedrooms.

Close to the world heritage site of La Cite in Carcassone, the medieval village of Caunes is the ideal location for your holiday. Lying on the eastern edge of the sun-soaked minervois vineyards with a backdrop formed by the Black Mountains, it offers a quintessential view of French life.

Caunes offers a glimpse of times gone by with its old stones, pretty squares, fountains, gardens and a hump back bridge. The village is famous for its... Benedictine abbey, its winding streets and for the local pink marble. There are art galleries, pottery classes and demonstrations, weekly music concerts in the Abbey grounds and jazz nights in the caveau under the medieval Abbey itself.

There are three markets a week in Caunes, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – even though it is only a village of 1400 inhabitants. And nearby are walking trails to explore, vineyards to visit, deep river gorges, ruined Cathar fortresses and in only 40 minutes you can bask on the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean. Spain is only a day trip away but for those who just want to relax and soak in the pleasures of the Minervois,.

The interior was renovated in 2010 and decorated to reflect French charm, with original old tiles in the master bedroom and salon and a new modern kitchen and an open floor plan for dining on the ground floot. French doors lead to the sunny garden with plenty of space to eat outdoors or barbeque in the summer. Caunes Minervois is a typical French village - but there is an active community of Americans, Canadians and Australians who choose to winter in this lovely tranquil area. People are friendly and for those who choose a long let - we will make sure you are introduced to the local community if you wish.


The village has a bakery, a pizzeria, two small general stores, an excellent village cafe.bar, a tapas bar, a tearoom, and three excellent restaurants.
