Blue Monkey - Luxury Boutique Coastal Cottage
Cawsand, West Country, England
Additional Location Information
The villages of Kingsand & Cawsand are the perfect base for the discerning holiday maker. The historical fishing villages are unspoilt by time & still retain their colour-washed old cottages, narrow streets, pubs, restaurants and shops. Perhaps the most recognisable feature of the villages is the clock tower on the Kingsand seafront, erected to commemorate the coronation of King George V. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty they are frequently winners of the Best Kept Village award.
Cawsand Bay offers the ideal place to relax but is also popular for swimming, windsurfing, water skiing, a dream training area for those who are more active! For a fishing break, why not try sea angling, - bass, wrasse, pollock or mackerel are readily caught from the rocks. Bird watchers might see buzzards circling overhead or cormorants fishing, & the really lucky ones may even glimpse a basking shark or a dolphin. Nearby Whitsand Bay is also popular with beachgoers, surfers, and shore-fisherman.

Perfect family seaside escape
Beautiful family and pet friendly house in a gorgeous village. This house is better kitted out for little ones than my own home.
Local beach and pubs are perfect, no need to leave the village!
Restorative & Relaxing!
Keep coming back to Blue Monkey for more! Lovely to see the house gleaming from top to bottom following a fresh lick of paint! The introduction of a second fridge making room for some extra beverages and the usual stunning walks and beach activities around Cawsand made for an axcellent week. The dogs were in their element throughout and particularly enjoyed snuggling up in front on the fire when the Cornish weather decided to close in for a day or two!

amazing, amazing, amazing.
This is a very special and unique find ---a wonderful, homely cottage nestled in a delightful spot---we loved the friendly hamlet ;the great beaches ;the coastal walks that were so beautiful;the Pubs especially the Davenport, where we became regular visitors -the Boat Hut which did amazing breakfasts and more than anything we did not take the car out of the car park until the day before we left when we visited the superb Rick Steins seafood restaurant.
An amazingly restful break in a cottage so lovingly restored and furnished with every need catered for. Read more

We are so glad you all had a great time in Cawsand exploring the local rock pools and restaurants and we very much look forward to your return later this year.
Best wishes Blue Monkey.

Stormy, windy, sunny and cold. We had it all and we loved it!
One of the cosiest, yet comfortable coastal cottages we've stayed in; plenty of space, log fires and beds for everyone. A group of us stayed, coastal walks, kitesurfing nearby, even a brief surf and friendly pubs. Will definitely be back. Thankyou. Read more

Adams Family stay
Had a fabulous time at Blue Monkey, stunning place and scenic, cosy location. An absolute delight.
A week of up-market living next to the sea, excellent general fo
Being 2 families wishing to holiday together, spanning the age from 0 to 70's,and needing space and activities for all, Blue Monkey gave us this in abundance.Unlike other viewed properties, staircase was wide and no difficult stairs to reach the bedrooms. As one entered B M there was a very welcoming feel. Fresh flowers in the sitting room + kitchen, in the fridge wine and clotted cream and fire laid ready for a lit match.
More than met expectations eg those lovely white fluffy towels, light duvets, pretty Emma B crockery etc etc.
Nearby walks long or short to suit one's taste or a ferry ride to Plymouth, takes about 30 mins from Cawsand, over the road from B M the sea and sand await one, just seemed whatever pursuit you wished for,was on hand.
Would certainly recommend to friends and family saying, a holiday in B M needs to be experienced asap. Can't wait to return "To the forgotten corner of Cornwall" and stay in this luxury abode.
Lovely house in lovely position
We chose Blue Monkey because while it is in Cornwall, you are spared the nightmare of driving down through to the far south or north of the County. While only just in Cornwall, Cawsand has all the trappings of a typical Cornish village. All very quaint and picturesque but without any tawdry hat. The cottage itself is a very well modernised three storey house with bags of room. A very large kitchen and courtyard garden make eating and drinking at home a pleasure. But Cawsand/Kingsand is well provided with pubs of all kinds. The Devonport is particularly good for food and the Rising Sun for beer. The beaches are great for lounging and swimming and even in the July 2013 heat wave were never too busy. Wonderful costal walks make it ideal for dogs and the rock pools make it perfect for kids. The little ferry to Barbican is ideal for a day trip to Plymouth where we enjoyed the aquarium. All in all a perfect spot for a family holiday. Read more

Gorgeous boutique retreat
Thank you Blue Monkey for giving us the perfect location for a gorgeous holiday.
The house was immaculate on arrival, luxurious and very welcoming. The master bedroom and bathroom was our favourite of the rooms - massive and very elegant! The dining/living room was very comfortable and relaxing. The garden provided a great setting for Bbq's and out door lunches.
We would definately recommend the Mount Edgecombe and Rame walks - the dogs loved their coastal runs!
The beaches are a 1 and 5 minute walk, pubs within 1 minute - so handy having everything so close. The Davenport Pub for food is excellent.
The house is very dog and baby friendly and was a great choice for our family holiday - we will will definitely recommend this to our friends and hope to be back again soon - thank you so much!
Just what was needed!
Having our first ever holiday with our new little boy aged just 11 weeks was a trip which was very important to us. Having been to Blue Monkey before, returning here was an easy decision to make. It is superbly kitted out for babies and young children and the woodburner made a huge difference for keeping the place homely and warm on some chilly nights! Walks on Whitsand, Rame Head and over to Mount Edgcumbe were all stunning and and some good times in te Devonport as always! Having dogs to stay at Blue Monkey was a massive plus too.
A home from home
Lovely location, exceptionally clean house, very baby friendly. A real home from home with a large comfy sofa, wood-burner, dishwasher and big comfy bed. Everything was thought off so we could relax and enjoy our holiday. A welcome pack of wine, bread, butter and cream tea awaited us too - just perfect.
Lovely big house, so close to the sea, with fab pub just round t
Lovely big house - we had seven people staying and made use of the extra bunk room - and it didn't feel crowded. It was really well equipped, with all the cooking utensils, tablewear you'd need, and all very well organised. The electric hob takes a little getting used to, but otherwise, can't fault anything. Lovely bedding and fluffy towels. A real treat for friends or family.
Seconds from the sea, and loads of coastal walks to do. Nearby national trust houses and grands were good.
The Devonshire arms is a lovely pub/restaurant. You'll likely need to book, and it's well worth it. Although several other pubs in the village available as back-up.
Fantastic holiday cottage
We chose Blue Monkey over the other options as it looked luxurious and yet child friendly. We had 4 under-5s and so this was important.
The house was immaculate on arrival with fresh flowers in every room and homemade scones, clotted cream, jam and a bottle of wine - a really lovely welcome!
We would definitely recommend it to friends and family with and without children as it was really well equipped (everything you need for babies and children as well as Emma Bridgewater pottery!!), in a great location and very cosy. We definitely hope to be back!
Excellent cottage everything it says on the internet.
Beautiful large cottage, which is just as described on the website. Would definitely go again. Lovely woodburner in lounge, large kitchen with everything you will need. Lovely spacious bedrooms.
Beautifully presented and spacious accomodation in idyllic locat
Blue Monkey is presented and maintained to an excellent standard. It is warm, welcoming and very well equipped and you immediately feel at home. Just yards from the beach, 4 village pubs serving great food, local shop and cafe's the house could not be more conviently located in the centre of this idyllic Cornish village. Nearby are picturesque walks along coastal paths, beautiful scenery, countryside and beaches. The area is easily accessible but retains the peaceful charm of Cornwall, only half an hour by ferry from the city of Plymouth the villages are totally unspoilt. We can't wait to return and can't imagine a better to place to stay than Blue Monkey
A Gem in a Hidden Corner of Cornwall
We chose the Blue Monkey over other holiday homes because of the baby facilities, location, log fire, free wifi and the number of bathrooms.
On our arrival there was a cream tea set out on the kitchen table, nice touch. The property was spacious, comfortable and high quality. The week we were there the weather was very cold but the house was warm especially with the log burner in the evenings. Definitely met our expectations.
The Blue Monkey is perfect for families but groups of adults too. Would recommend to either.
We loved the Eden project which is about one hour to drive. Also a fantastic marine aquarium in Plymouth is worth a visit. On the doorstep beautiful beaches and walks along the coast. The local pubs have excellent Cornish beers, serve good food and are within easy walking distance.
We are looking forward to staying at the Blue Monkey again.

This was our second stay at "Blue Monkey" and I can honestly say that stepping back into the house was like coming home. Everything had such a comfortable familiarity about it - my husband and I were truly thankful to be back!
We love Cawsand, Kingsand, and their residents, and have made many local friends! The Halfway House is 14 steps from Blue Monkey's front door (we counted!) and serves very good pub food! It's local characters are so much fun, particularly on a Wednesday night when the Cawsand Men's Choir gather after their practice and sing a delightful blend of popular music and old Cornish songs! The Devonport is a wonderful gathering place that serves terrific food!
The owner of Blue Monkey has thought of every comfort and we found many updates and improvements since our last visit (not that it wasn't perfect the first time!). We are Brits who live permanently in the USa and knowing Blue Monkey is waiting for us is as good as having our own home in the U.K! The minute we leave, we look forward to the time when we can return.
Beautiful accommodation in Beautiful Village
Stayed at Blue Monkey for a long weekend whilst attending a family wedding at the Polhawn Fort. The accommodation is excellent. All the possible facilities and equipment that you could ask for. I would recommend for either families with children young or old.
So nice to go somewhere that feels like a home rather than holiday accommodation. We visited in Dec so was fairly cold and wet, this meant that the quality of the house was all the more important.
I had high expectations from reading reviews and looking at the website and can honestly say I was not disappointed at all.
I am sure that we will be back in the future... might event visit in the summer!! Read more

Thank you very much for your encouraging words, we constantly strive to improve on each guests stay and experience. Although the local area does benefit from being in a favorably micro-climate, when the weather does turn, it is always reassuring to know that within minutes of returning to Blue Monkey, everyone can be snuggling up next to the open fire, with a glass of wine in hand or a warm mug of tea.
Over the past year we have added
• Sky HD,
• A 42 inch flat screen TV
• As well as maintain the property to a very high standard
• Added a bunk room in case unexpected guests arrive taking capacity to 10 people, although we contractually only let it to 8 guests.
This has resulted in over 30% of 2013 already being booked mainly by returning guests their family and friends, who if they book before 2013 for next year they will receive this year’s prices as a loyalty thank you.
For next year and as part of the annual winter refurbishment, the property will be:
• Redecorated throughout,
• New rustic bathroom flooring will be laid,
• We are most excited about installing a new wood burner to help maximise the warmth in the house before next Spring.
We are very much looking forward to your return in 2013 and beyond and wish you a pleasant Christmas and New Year.

A perfect, unforgettable stay... Quality, comfort and luxury in
The wonderful experience hit us the moment we opened the front door on a wet and windy November evening. There may have been the worst flooding in Cawsand for over 30 years, but inside Blue Monkey, all was peace and calm! We arrived to find the fire laid for us, the house was impeccably clean... and frankly the photographs of the house do not do it justice! We all agreed that nothing could have been better. The beds and bedding are sumptuous, the kitchen is perfectly equipped (and I mean 'perfectly'!) and I could go on forever - but won't... Suffice it to say that this luxury boutique cottage (big for a cottage!)is just beautiful, Cawsand is charming and all the locals are very, very friendly. We particularly recommend The Devonport (two minutes away) and there is no shortage of pubs. Walks are great, the bay is charming - this place is almost too good to recommend!!! A gem indeed... We will definitely be back! Thank you for an unforgettable stay Ed!
A Few Days off Life
Upon arriving we were greeted by a pre-laid fire and an immaculate property which had clearly been renovated to a very high standard but without losing any of the original charm.
The home was spacious and some of the bedrooms seemed to go on forever. The multiple bathrooms had been modernised to include power showers and a constant supply of water which I deem an essential of any property these days but is not always the case in holiday destinations.
There were 3 or 4 pubs all within extremely close proximity to the front door and the beach was about 45 seconds away so the property couldn't have been in a better part of Cawsand.
Being from London for me the charm of Blue Monkey was the location. I wanted a few days off work but to have Wifi and a landline to be in touch. But equally I wanted to be far enough away so that there was no chance of me just 'popping back' !! I was just the right distance.
A fantastic place to take children due to the proximity to the beach and amenities but also things like garden and the fact that there is a ground floor shower so that they don't traipse sand everywhere!
Beyond the property and the village of Cawsand I would strongly recommend that any visitor take a few walks. In both directions the views are stunning.
Thank you very much for the memories Blue Monkey and I look forward to a future visit!
The only negative that I can really think of is that I have had to purchase a new duvet for my own home because after sleeping the linen at Blue Monkey it became apparent that my own duvet has seen better days!
Comfortable cottage from which to explore
Blue Monkey is a very spacious and comfortable cottage based almost directly on the bay. It has all the creature comforts you'd expect and often a few extras you might not (the most spacious bathroom i've ever seen!).
It's a great location to explore the rugged wilderness around, or a quiet, peaceful location if you just want to relax and watch to locals potter by.
Phone reception can be a bit patchy in the area, but that's a blessing in disguise!
The charm of Cawsand
We had a great stay at Blue Monkey which is amazingly spacious for a Cawsand cottage. So easy to head out the door and walk straight onto the beach or along the coast path or to one of the several great local pubs! Beautiful cottage and a great stay, perfect for a group of friends and very easy family accomodation
Fantastic property in a charming location
Blue Monkey is simply excellent. Remarkably spacious and very well equipped. It was a real pleasure to stay there and the surrounding area is full of attractions for all ages and interests. Would definitely stay again.
super property, wonderful location
We visited Kingsand 12 months ago whilst staying nearby and were instantly drawn to the place. We walked past blue monkey and noted the rental details from a card in the window, and booked soon after for the following October half term. As regular and extensive visitors to the South West, this was definitley one of the very best properties we have stayed in. Highly recommended.
Wrotham, near Sevenoaks
What a lovely house to spend a week in...
This is now the fourth time we have stayed at blue monkey, ed (the owner) continually updates the property and this time we found a new flat screen tv, the kitchen table has been upgraded. To list but a few...
This is the most amazing house to stay in and if ed ever wants to sell it, my wife will buy it...!!!
Beautiful house, really tastefully done, right in the middle of the village - couldn't be a better location. Fantastic local pubs and activities - lovely beach nearby and fantastic clifftop walks. Couldn't recommend more highly!
Perfect w/end away.
Amazing location, 3.5hrs drive from London, right on the beach. Fabulous gastro pubs in the village. Brilliant walks from the front door.
Very enjoyable stay
The house is very well equipped and a generous size. The village and surrounding scenery are stunning.
We're a family with young children and it was an ideal holiday.
We felt the price was fair considering the size and quality of property. At the time we booked the advertised cost was cheaper at some third party websites (Baby Friendly Boltholes and Sawdays) than on the Blue Monkey website (or booking with the owner directly). Read more

Many thanks for your comments, we are very happy you had a great time at Blue Monkey and the local area. We do appreciate constructive feedback and I have to admit, due to an administrative error the prices were reviewed earlier this year and not all of the 25 sites we advertise though had the latest prices updated correctly. This is now currently being updated to aid transparency and to ensure that everyone benefits from the excellent value that a holiday at Blue Monkey provides.
Please do let me know if you would like to rebook and as a thank you we can discuss a loyalty bonus for your constructive feedback and repeated custom.

Lovely house in beautiful village
Very comfortable and tastefully decorated in house in a beautiful village. We had a great week there. It's in wonderful location with easy access to the beautiful local beaches.
Would recommend for families or couples wanting a relaxing week away.
An awesome corner of Cornwall!
Been down to this area on many occasions now and love staying in Blue Monkey. Amazing walks with the dogs, beautiful selection of beaches & some superb pubs for a sundowner or two. What more could you want?!
Perfect for a family holiday
Blue Monkey is a lovely house - spacious and practical but stylish as well. It suited our needs as a 3-generation extended family very well. Having use of the 2 kayaks was a real bonus and fun for adults and children alike. Kingsand and Cawsand are perfect villages for a relaxing holiday. Beaches were on the doorstep, and good walking, village shop, post office, pubs, cafes, were all to hand, without spoiling the non-commercialised character of the place. We did not find parking in the nearby Skinner's car park a problem at all - it is so close. In fact we often used buses and ferries to get around and this was all part of the fun. We were lucky enough to visit at the time of the Rame Gig Regatta which was another focus of interest. We had a problem with the fridge and were very impressed with how efficiently and quickly this was dealt with. Read more

Great to hear you had a fabulous time enjoying the tranquillity of the “forgotton courner” and the local Gig racing and unique activities that Cawsand and the surrounding area provides…
We have a cracking team of professional cleaners / managers in “House Nannies” – far superior to any other company we have tried to date, be it local cleaners or Holiday Home Management.
Household items do indeed need replacing from time to time and House Nannies were great in replacing the fridge freezer within 24 hours of the issue being reported and I am glad that this did not interfere with the enjoyment of your holiday.
Hoping it is not too long before you are able to return to bluemonkeycornwall.com and with 80% booked each year over the past 2 years, we have already taken nearly 20% of bookings for 2013.
Previous guests receive a loyalty thank you of this year’s prices for next years bookings when bookings are made by the end of November.
Enjoy the rest of summer.

A stylish seaside home in a beautiful part of Cornwall
The twin villages of Kingsand/Cawsand are located in east Cornwall in what is often called the "forgotten" corner of the county. We found the village(s) perfect with the benefits of being hidden away but equally a 30 minute ferry trip to Plymouth. This makes for a great combination when you have small kids who need entertaining come rain or shine!
The Blue Monkey was a great base to explore the area, being only a few steps from the beach, and had everything you need in a home away from home. The accommodation is spacious and decorated in coastal pastels, with everything needed for a very comfortable stay, and a great history to reflect on (pub, Nelson, cannonballs...). The owner, Ed, provides everything you need for a smooth 'check in' with clear instructions and guidance and nice touches such as bread, milk and wine. This really makes a difference after a long drive, albeit through lovely scenery.
Top tips would include:
- lunch at "The View" overlooking Whitsand bay. Great fish and local wine (try the Camel Valley)
- a walk around Mount Edgcumbe with its great views towards Plymouth and various activities for kids including treasure hunts and of course ice cream from the Orangery
- get the ferry from Cawsand beach to the Barbican in Plymouth and visit the National aquarium in time for the shark feed (11 am); afterwards get the shuttle ferry to King Williams Dock and enjoy the architecture and lunch at the River cafe
- enjoy a pint of Cornish ale whilst watching the sun go down overlooking the sea at the Devonport Inn; the kids can play on the beach below as you sip slowly!
- go crabbing in the rock pools as the tide recedes and reward yourself with morning tea/coffee at the deli just a few houses up from the Blue Monkey
all in all this a great holiday home in a lovely spot. You can't help but relax and look forward to returning.
Lovely pubs, no cars and a gorgeous place to stay.
Blue Monkey is what is says on the packet. Practical but luxurious. We didn't much at all apart from flip flops and a bucket and spade. The kids spent most of their time bombing down the car free zone by the beach on scooters while we sipped wine and ate lobster. Heaven. Back at Blue Monkey, everything was taken care of - it is obvious that the place is loved by its owners as well.

Happy sand pie days
Easy to book and a very extensive guide to local amenities in the area were sent in advance of us arriving so that we could plan our holiday activities. Even though the weather wasn't great on our June holiday in the evenings we lit the fire and enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of the cottage, which was very well presented and spacious.
We had four generations of our family on holiday and each generation found something to entertain themselves from the little beaches in Cawsand and Kingsand to the pubs, walks and the one-way system in the village.
A fitting house set in its tranquil and picturesque setting
We chose Blue Monkey becasue the house had everything we were looking for,
On arrival to the house we were really taken aback by its grand scale it was much bigger than we had all anticipated. We were blown over by the Master bedrooms en suite.
We noticed that the baby after crawling around for 15mins once we arrived had very black hands, feet and knees. This did concern us so we were sadly having to mop the floors at least twice over, before we felt we would walk around bare foot or let the children do so.
Through the day we spotted various other cleaning issues like behind the sofa hadn't been hovered properly and when we pulled one of the armchair cushions of that also you could see clearly had not been hovered properly.
When using the grill we noticed there were not markings on the buttons to indicate what temperature it was at then we noticed once it got too hot it stopped working all together so we were unable to use the grill because every time it got hot enough to use it then cut of.
We found the emptying of the black bin on the Monday evening a not very nice chore at all, we thought we could wheel the bin around but it turns out you had to take out the black bin liners and walk them through the back gate round the front, which with your own rubbish is not very nice but with the peoples before you as well it was just grim.
Other than those few points we did like the house and it had everything we needed for our stay but those things did disappoint us purely because of the cost of staying there we felt that really it was a but of a let down.
Response from Pam Manager / Ed Owner - 07/16/2012
I agree that attention to detail is important. The comments have therefore been noted and where appropriate, actions taken.
• The downstairs flooring in Blue Monkey is terracotta tiles. The floor is cleaned thoroughly on changeover day – vacuumed and then ‘mopped’ with a steam cleaner. Unfortunately, the nature of tiles like this is that although they are slightly porous, they do not absorb mud and water like a carpet; it sits on the surface. Given the very wet weather, by the time guests had ferried all their belongings through the hall and shopping etinto the kitchen, the floor probably was dirty.
Action: I will put a large ‘dirt trapping’ Turtle Mat in the hallway to reduce the ingress of dirt and water on shoes/boots. A shoe rack will also be instated near the front door so guests can take off and leave their outdoor shoes there, if they so wish.
• I have asked the housekeeping team to pay particular attention to cleaning behind the sofa and to use a crevice tool when vacuuming the sofa/chairs, so they do not disappoint on close inspection.
• The grill has been checked and the problem identified by this guest did not present after a period of 20 minutes. No other guests have reported this problem. If the door of the grill is not fully open when the grill is being used, it will cut-out as a safety measure. The temperature of the grill is either High or Low; there are no in-between temperature options.
Action: leave some cooker operating instructions in the kitchen.
• Cornwall Council withdrew their rubbish deposit facility in Kingsand earlier this year, so we have had to work around this. Generally, guests are happy to put out the previous’ guest rubbish, in the knowledge that the following week, their rubbish will be put out. There is a designated area in the back garden for rubbish. Despite complaints about the rubbish, Hayley and her family left the rubbish they had accumulated from bin day on Wednesday to Saturday, for the following guests to put out.
Action: I will explain the rubbish situation in my booking notes so there are no surprises. However, if guests do not wish to put out the previous guests rubbish and leave their own for the next guests etc. I will arrange for the previous guests’ rubbish to be privately collected before their arrival.
• We always aim to maintain a high and consistent level of housekeeping and service for Blue Monkey. Guests’ comments are noted and remedial action is always taken where we consider that comments are fair and beneficial to future guests’ comfort and enjoyment.
Return to the Blue Monkey
We returned for a second year at the Blue Monkey for another fantastic Easter holiday. The house suited everyone from the grandchildren to the grandparents especially the large kitchen area.
We all had lots of fun crabbing at the beach in the rock pool and enjoying the ferry boat over to the aquarium in Plymouth. Read more

Hi Steven & Stephanie,
Many thanks for taking the time to write your review. After 3 years of letting Blue Monkey we are starting to find a growing number of guests booking the same week annually as Blue Monkey, Cawsand and the surrounding beautiful tranquil area ticks all the boxes especially for family holidays.
As a result of or continued efforts to tailor make our services to individual guests we have featured in Alistair Sawdays collection of "One of the Top Coastal Rental Properties for 2012" and also featured as "One of the UK’s Best Coastal Holiday Cottages – The Sunday Times".
We do hope we will see you next year and as a loyalty thank you to past guests if you book before the end of the year we will offer you 2012 prices on your booking.
Brilliant house and location
We had a lovely stay at blue Monkey. The owners really have thought of everything! Its in a great location - right in the centre of Kingsand and so close to the beach but also very quiet and peaceful. Kingsand was a great find for us - we have been to many other places in cornwall but never here, we loved it! A great combination of a charming fishing village, great coastal walks and some really great places to eat. And a really special, beautiful beach at Whitsand. The house is superbly equipped (we had a baby and all the baby equipment was much appreciated) and is very comfortable and spacious. Brilliant to find somewhere of this quality that is happy to have children and dogs - a rarity. We will definitely be back! Read more

I am always over joyed when new guests find for themselves the delights of Cornwall's forgotten corner. It is a real jem of a location hidden away from its more famous neighbours in Salcombe or the north shore of Rock & Croyde.
Long may it remain that way and we do hope now you have found us you will be returning over the coming years. As a sign of your loyalty, past guests always receive last years prices, if they make a booking within the same year before the end of the peak season.
Best wishes for 2012.
Beautiful and comfortable house, right in the midst of things - the sea, local shops, coastal paths, great pubs and restaurants are all in easy walking distance.
We were 5 people and 2 babies, but you'd be happy just 2 of you too.
Lovely house - cosy but large sized rooms and all the facilities you could want in a beautiful Cornish village. Read more

We are so glad when guests find the village for the first time as it really is a treat for all parties, children can run wild safely in the streets and rookpool to their hearts content, dogs can roam free across the coastal path and wide expanse of the open fields and Whitsand Bay.
Wishing you a great 2012 and hope to see you return to bluemonkeycornwall.com shortly. As an added thank you for your return stays, (a loyalty thank) you we offer you last years prices.
We stayed for a week at the beginning of October and had a wonderful time. The property had a warm and cosy feel to it when you arrive and there was an excellent bottle of white wine waiting to for us.
For a dog friendly property, the interior decor was of a very high standard.
Kingsand is a lovely area and has some very cosy little pubs dotted around, everything you need here for a relaxing get away from it all break. The location of the property is first class with village shop and beach close by.
We would certainly stay at the Blue Monkey again and have been to Kingsand for the last three years running.
Solihull, West Midlands
Super chilled holiday in luxury surroundings
Just returned from a lovely stay at Blue Monkey. We were a group of 6 adults and 3 babies (15 months, 9 months, 8 months) but despite the young travellers, Cawsand and Blue Monkey provided us with an extremely chilled break.
The house is big enough to not feel on top of each other and Cawsand and Kingsand are completely wonderful with not a piece of tack in sight. You know a place is wonderful when the local pub sells Pimms with all the trimmings in a vessel you can take onto the beach - heaven!!
A great location
The blue Monkey is a large house with ample room for families with children. There are plenty of bathrooms so it is also great for more than one family to share. The house is within a minute of the nearest pebble beach and we made good use of the kayaks. It was well worth the 5 minute drive to Whitsand Bay for the long stretch of white sand and pools for the children to play in. The village is lovely with enough to keep everyone interested without being too big or commercial. The food at the Devonport arms was very good. A lovely house in a beautiful unspoilt part of Cornwall.
Blue Monkey is a first-class holiday home rental where one's every need has been considered. The home itself is spacious, with tasteful decor and furnishings. The bedrooms and bathrooms are luxurious, while the owners have equipped the kitchen thoughtfully and more than adequately. On arrival, we found a lovely bottle of wine waiting for us on the kitchen table, which was a welcoming touch. Babies, children, and dogs are not forgotten as the owners have thoughtfully provided for them, too, and everything one might need to play at the beach and in the rock pools is also supplied! The little courtyard "secret" garden is a delight and much enjoyed on the two evenings we used the barbeque. We cannot recommend highly enough a stay at Blue Monkey in delightful Cawsand!!
What an amazing break we had for half term week, The house, the location and even the weather were beatiful.
Cannot wait to go again. Already booked for next year, just wish we had more free time & money!
A wonderful escape...
This was our first visit to Cawsand/Kingsand and the Blue Monkey. Although the weather was changeable, we had a wonderful week in this unspoilt village and lovely house. The Blue Monkey is a home from home, with all the creature comforts needed for a relaxing holiday. The owners provided the essential baby/toddler equipment and left comprehensive information on the local area which made settling in much easier after a long drive. The three beaches in Cawsand are just a stones throw away, beautiful for us to enjoy and safe for our young children to splash about and rock pool - riding the small ferry boat across to Plymouth was a highlight for the children. We would definitely love to stay again. Read more

It is lovely to hear you had a great time exploring the local area, we do hope like most of our guests that you will be back in the near future.

A very comfortable and relaxing holiday
Blue Monkey is a spacious, comfortable and well equipped house where 8 adults could easily relax, meet together or have their own space. Cawsand is a pretty village with good pubs and a good location for walking along the coastal path. Car parking isn't next to house and although not far away, it means loading and unloading is inconvenient, plus you could get quite wet in bad weather. Read more
Response from Pam Manager / Ed Owner - 05/17/2011
Many thanks for taking the time to write the review, it was very good to speak with you when you arrived to check you had settled in well and were enjoying the village and exploring the coastal path and their stunning views.
We do try to point out to guests in the welcome email, welcome pack and welcome letter that you are more than welcome each time you need to load and unload your car to to use the 2 passing bays outside the neighbour's property. This way you can walk 1 meter from the front door and park your car, so no matter what the weather is other cars can still pass by and you can easily load and unload your car.
We do hope you will be in contact to book for 2012 is we are currently taking a booking a week.

fantastic holiday experience
very nice house, ample space in a great location.
Heathfield, East Sussex
The photos do not do justice to this beautiful house. The rooms are vast and very tastefully decorated, giving a sense of light and space. Even with visitors, there is never a sense of feeling crowded. There were 4 adults, a 14 yr old, 11 yr old and 2 two and half year olds in our 'party' and we had family visiting as well. The en-suite in the master bedroom is sheer luxury. There was nothing missing - the kitchen has all the equipment you could possibly need, including children's cutlery and crockery. The kayaks gave much pleasure as it is literally seconds away from the beach by the back entrance. The garden is delightful, fully enclosed so small children can play safely. Having the wood store for the fire was great as the evenings were a bit chilly and we have previously stayed in places where you have to collect/buy your own wood. The convenience of a land-line is really useful as it is almost impossible to get a signal on mobiles in the house (although top bedroom by window can sometimes work).
I unreservedly recommend Blue Monkey to anyone who is thinking of visiting Cawsand. It is well worth the money!
Beautiful house in a perfect location
We spent a glorious spring weekend at Blue Monkey and the house was perfect for us and our 3 month old baby. The extra facilities such as a baby bouncer were really thoughtful and saved us carrying a car load of baby items with us. The location of the house is perfect, between 2 of the beaches and next door to a lovely pub who did take away meals. I could not fault a thing and we will be back soon|!
a fantastic relaxing break, breathtaking
What an amazing place, we didn't want to come home. A real hidden gem. Blue monkey was so comfortable a real home from home. My husband hates going on holiday, but even he loved it. We will be back every year.
Can't wait to go back!
Our trip to the Blue Monkey was arranged due to a family wedding in a local fort a couple of miles away.
We considered ourselves extremely lucky to have come across the Blue Monkey and were very impressed with not only the size but the homely feel and comfort. The Blue Monkey is equipped with everything that any family could wish for, ours included teenagers who were pleased with the Wi Fi and large collection of Dvd's. Being February we had the Log fire blazing but only really for effect as the cottage was warm and comfortable throughout.
We found the coastal Cliff path heading towards the long stretching sands of Whitsand bay and the also made our way over the rocks in the opposite direction and walked up through the Country Park. The views are fantastic!
For the 'icing on the cake' our neice had a romantic, idyllic setting for her wedding in this most lovely part of Cornwall.
fresh and lovely
We had a fantastic time at the Blue Monkey. Cawsand is a magical village with great very friendly pubs and fabulous walks. The house is amazing to boot!
We will be staying again!!!

A Great Base For Our Family Wedding
We had a lovely week staying at the Blue Monkey in Cawsand - great communication from the owner before we arrived and thereafter. Cawsand has some great pubs - the Devonport was particularly good with a great menu - clean and safe beaches for our little one - thanks for letting us stay. Read more

Hi, Mike & Christine,
We were delighted to be able to provide you with a great base to explore and enjoy “The forgotten corner of Cornwall” and it was lovely to hear you had a wonderful time celebrating at Polhawn Fort and the local area. It is no surprise that Polhawn Fort is rated as one of the UKs most popular coastal wedding venues and the Devonport pub goes from strength to strength. Please do stay in contact by following us on Twitter and Facebook for all of our latest updates.
A sanctuary by the sea
Kingsand & Cawsand is my favourite place in Cornwall so finding the Blue Monkey was a dream come true. After a long journey, weariness is swept aside as you open the door and take in your sumptuous surroundings.
Not too much, not too little but just right. None of the seaside nick-nacks you find in rental places by the coast. Gorgeous paintings, matching crockery and glasses plus the best of everything. You feel like the Blue Monkey has been created with the guest in mind rather than using up all the cast offs from the owners' home which is rather how we felt in another place we stayed in the village.
Although we were blessed with gorgeous weather, apart from a stroll to the beach, we were quite content to chill out at the Blue Monkey and relax in front of the log fire. Logs are provided and there is a never-ending supply.
Bedrooms and bathrooms are gorgeous with huge comfy bed. No matter how many people staying, you'll have plenty of space and enough of everything for everyone.
The seaside is a throw of a bucket-and-spade away and you are in the very heart of the village. We've already booked our next stay and the future would not seem complete without an annual retreat to the Blue Monkey from now on.
Christmas at 'Blue Monkey'
We had an amazing Christmas staying at 'Blue Monkey' which is a beautiful House in an amazing Village location. The House is wonderfully equipped with everything you need. We were two famillies (4 adults, 4 children, 2 dogs) and the House worked superbly. Kingsand has so much to offer with beautiful walks and great pubs and beaches all a stones throw from 'Blue Monkey.' The House is so well equipped for children and babies and so comfortable, we can't wait to return.
Response from Pam Manager / Ed Owner - 01/05/2011
It is very reassuring to hear you and your guests had a cracking time in Blue Monkey and in the local area. Cawsand is a fabulous place, untouched by time in so many ways but it retains its Cornish charm and still has so much to offer.
Christmas is a magical time to visit and the walk back from the church across the open fields dusted in snow is truly magical. Do stay in touch and let us know when you are planning your next visit.
Best wishes Ed & Nicky Hector - 01491 652 187 / 07769 713 110
A wonderful weekend at the Blue Monkey
A beautiful home for a break away. We went with extended family and stayed for 4 nights. The owners could not have been more helpful and attentive and kept in contact throught out our stay. The cottage itself was clean, cozy, extremely welcoming and comfertable. The pictures online do not do it justice, all rooms are good size, and beautifully and tastefully decorated. It is very well equipped expecially for young children. The travel cots, high chairs and baby equipment is all modern and clean. We very much enjoyed having a fire every day with endless supply of logs!! The local area is beautiful, we enjoyed a meal at the very local devonport Inn. We also had drinks at 2 other local pubs so no shortage of pubs! I would highly recommend this holiday home to all friends and family and would love to go back. The only downside I can see is the parking is not ideal but part of the beauty of the village is the small streets, winding roads and the fact the sea is only meters from your front door. The local shop has all the emergency supplies you might need and the owners give you such a comprehensive welcome pack with all the information you could ever need regarding all local attractions, shops, walks etc. Thanks for a wonderful weekend, a great place to spend some quality time with your friends and family away from it all!!
the best cottage ever!
The Blue Monkey is, without doubt, the most impressive holiday cottage I have ever stayed in! I visited with my parents and young son, and as soon as we opened the front door we realised how lovely it is. It has been furnished and decorated to a very high standard, but still feels homely and welcoming. And, despite the chilly weather, the house was lovely and warm. It was just a pity it wasn't the weather to use the garden, which must be a real asset at warmer times of the year.
The village was lovely, and we tried several of the local pubs, which were all friendly.Parking was easily and very cheaply available near to the Blue Monkey.
Being November, some of the local attractions were closed, but we filled our time looking in rockpools on the beach, going to pubs for lunch, visiting the playground on the edge of the village, and playing games from the well-stocked cupboard in the Blue Monkey.
All I have to do now is plan my next visit...
Very nice comfy house, great location. Central heating a tad cold so we needed the open fire most nights. Very well furnished. Great to be so close to the sea. Read more

Many thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback, we are very sorry to hear you needed to light the open log fire to provide additional heat.
Having contacted you to discuss this further I have contacted the management company "HHM" to ensure that all future guests are informed where the thermostat is (i.e. in the hall above the cupboard just outside the kitchen). Additionally I will ask them to reemphasise that they are on hand 24 *7 on 01637 876399 to ensure ANY questions or queries can be answered so you have minimal disturbance and can enjoy the local area.
HHM would have been only too happy to help and ensure you were able to find the thermostat. Based on your feedback I will also update the welcome pack over the next month and just so you know we are installing a remote heating control so that HHM can activate the heating the night before you arrive to ensure the house is very warm on arrival.
Once again thank your feedback it is GREATLY appreciated and we will do all we can to ensure this is resolved for our next guests.

A great weekend...
A great house, in a great location, I would recommend a stay at Blue Monkey. Lovely in the colder weather with the open fire, and lovely cosy and comfortable beds.
A walk along the coastal path to Cremyll is highly recommended for great views and some lovely food and drink.
We stayed at Blue Monkey with our one year old daughter and Bertie our dog. The house we perfect for both. We did not need to bring any child related items; all we needed (cot, stair-gate, high chair, plastic plates/bowls etc) was provided. With access straight to the beach we went for bracing walks and drove to surfing beaches then return to Blue Monkey to a log fire and hot baths. We even found a lovely babysitter and had an evening out. Heaven.
Hemel Hempstead, UK
Still our favourite family holiday...
Following our first stay at Blue Monkey in 2009 we re-booked the same slot for the following year immediately upon returning home. The house and villages are a dream; a superbly decorated, equipped and maintained house immediately became our home for the week whilst the villages are, in themselves, welcoming.
The beaches are superb and swimming and other water activities are entirely safe. The vista is one of somewhere entirely more exotic and, if it were not for the slightly patchy august English weather we could easily have been somewhere in the Med.
The children (11,13 and 15 this year) have all taken to Blue Monkey and Kingsand/Cawsand as if it were their permanent home. Unable to re-book for next year they have all expressed their disappointment but we have vowed to go back.
A wonderful location with superb memories for us.
Just what we needed
After a hectic couple of months (return to work after maternity leave) we were looking for a retreat that would allow us to unwind and slow everything down. We found Blue Monkey by chance and were delighted when we got there. The welcome pack was comprehensive and gave us all the info we needed to get started. When we arrived the house was a revelation. Lots of space for our little man to bomb about and everything we needed to make ourselves at home. There is real character in this house and it formed a great base to explore Cawsand and beyond. If you are looking for a retreat that allows flexibility for a young family in an area with lots to do then the Blue Monkey is a great choice. We would happily recommend it to our family and friends. Great to hear you had a cracking time in Cawsand. The weather has been very favourable this summer and the Cawsand micro-climate seems to help defy negative forecasts, yet again.
We restored Blue Monkey with a sympathetic approach and paid careful attention to design and detailing, to ensure that it retained its character and was in harmony with its surroundings.
We went one step further to ensure it is child friendly by proving everything parents could ask for from 2 baby cots and 2 high chairs to bath, door bouncer to steriliser, plastic cutlery and plates to bucket and spades and beach tent.
We are so glad you found it a great place to explore the local area and we do hope you will return in the near future. To all returning guests we offer last years prices.

Blue Monkey bank holiday
Blue Monkey is the perfect family holiday let in the perfect Cornish village. I can't wait to go back!
Frazzle and family
A great holiday from the minute we arrived
Blue Monkey is a lovely holiday home in a great location.
We all relaxed as soon as we arrived and our all too short holiday felt longer than it actually was - a great achievement with young children in tow! Comfy beds, space and pretty much everything you could need all helped.
With the car forgotten we took time to enjoy the twin villages, beaches and rock pools, walks and pubs. The kayaks were fantastic fun, as was the village gig regatta and the children were kept amused for hours at the nearby Long Pool.
As a rule we don't like to return to the same place - but rules are meant to be broken and we're looking forward to holidaying again at Blue Monkey.
Legendary Bank Holiday
The sun shone throughout our whole time in Cawsand with many happy hours being spent on the golfcourse, the beaches and in the Devonport public house! Our 3rd time staying in Blue Monkey and the draw of coming to this quiet corner of Cornwall just gets stronger. Supremely comfortable as always made special in the evenings with some excellent meals had next to a blazing fireplace. The dogs had a brilliant time too happily taking in all this beautiful spot has to offer.
Brilliant trip and we will be back next year if not before...!
Beautful house, ideally situated
I stayed at Blue Monkey with my girlfriend and friends over the Bank Holiday weekend. The house is charming externally and very well done inside, comfortably sleeping eight people in three doubles and a twin. It is perfectly located in Cawsand, a matter of meters from the beach, and the provision of kayaks and other kit is a very nice addition - I particuarly enjoyed fishing for mackerel from the kayaks on a sunny afternoon. All in all, a wonderful holiday house for a group of friends or a couple of families. Read more

It is always lovely to hear that the micro climate of Cawsand provides an ideal destination for the Bank Holiday weekend. The 2 kayaks this year have been a massive draw for guests who like nothing more than basking in the sun, cruising around the bay, trying their luck at fishing and enjoying time to dedicate to themselves.
Looking forward to welcoming you back for your next stay.

Summer fun by the sea
We had a fantastic stay at the Blue Monkey in Kingsand. Brilliant house, with huge kitchen, spacious bedrooms and great bathrooms. The Rame peninsula is spectacular and Kingsand and Cawsand idyllic villages. Top tip - take the coastal walk to Mount Edgecombe Park, it's a wonderful walk and there's a spectacular rope swing in the woods above the sea.

My family and i had the most amazing week here and have already booked for next year. The house was large enough and comfortable for four adults and two children. Would also recommend the devonport inn under new ownership and only in it's second week of trading, be sure to try it. Read more

Many thanks for taking the time to write your review and for giving the first review of the Devonport pub on the water front. We will definitely try it next time we are down.
It is always very reassuring to have guests book their next stay off the back of their recent stay and already most of June & July 2011 is booked with repeat customers.
The View restaurant overlooking Whitsand Bay is another strongly recommended restaurant you might like to enjoy next time you are down.
A relaxing break
The house is very well maintained, and had everything we needed. We were a family group aging from 40 - 75, all found the house extremely comfortable. The House is located very close to all of the village facilities, and one of our group who has difficulties walking found that he could easily walk from one end of the village to the other - although he did always insist on 'resting' in one of the local pubs before 'attempting' the walk home. The Blue Monkey made an excellent base to explore the Rame Peninsula. I would also recommend the foot ferry into Plymouth, stopping right by the Mayflower steps. The only issue we had, was that the nearest car park was full (we did arrive on a Bank Holiday Weekend!), so we had to walk to the furthest car park, although that is only a 5 minute walk away. Overall, a fantastic week
Blue Monkey is a great house located in the middle of a very pretty village. The house provided a great blend of comfy country living along with all mod cons (wireless broadband, sky TV etc). The living space was very comfortable for a group of 8 of us and the bedrooms were really nice as well.
The local pubs were fantastic and very friendly (and all within a very short walk so no worries about driving!!).
Highly recommended! Read more

Thanks for the review Marc,
I am glad you managed to relax and unwind during your stay and found the local Half Way House pub a lively and friendly atmosphere. The Devonport pub will be reopening over the next few months in time for summer, where when you next visit you will be able to enjoy sundowners right on the water front as you watch the sun setting out to sea.
Best wishes Ed & Nicky Hector
Beautiful house and gorgeous village
My husband and I stayed in the Blue Monkey with 5 other friends over the bank holiday weekend and had a fabulous time!
An absolutely beautiful house with everything you could want and need, so close to all of the (very friendly) pubs, the gorgeous beaches, and so many cute shops! We had a fantastic time and felt 100% more relaxed by the time we left.
Highly recommended for a relaxing break, but with plenty to do for the more adventurous and energetic types!

Many thanks Anna for your response,
With Cawsand being in the heart of a micro climate similar to Salcombe's, it sounds like the weather was fabulous once again in April / May and you were able to explore the local beaches and walks as well as taking time to visit the local shops Panache, Top Draw and the local gallery westcroftgallery.co.uk. Thank you for supporting the local economy :)
Best wishes Ed & Nicky Hector

Comfortable and stylish base to explore beautiful Cornish coast
Staying at the Blue Monkey was a delight from start to finish.
The booking service was excellent, personlised and most accomodating to our needs.
The Blue Monkey itself has the look and feel of a real home, not just a holiday cottage. It is beautifully designed - with style and comfort whilst being very cosy. The bedrooms were all light, airy and spacious and well kitted out too. The master bedroom and bathroom are fabulous, the bathroom being enormous and a perfect spot for a relaxing bath and chat to wind down after a days walking - as was the sitting room with its open fire.
The whole house is very well and thoughtfully equipped [great bread machine!] with plenty of bathrooms and an amazing amount of space - it's a bit like a Tardis as from the street it looks like a pretty but smallcottage.
The area is wonderful with beaches, pubs, restaurants and fabulous walking all within walking distance - no need for the car unless you want to explore further afield - Dartmoor is only 40 minutes away and long sandy beaches a 5 min drive [or longer walk].
In summary a wonderful house in a fabulous location and we can't wait to go back!
An unusually comfortable and beautiful home away from home
From initial enquiry through to leaving this idyllic home, the service has
been second to none. Quick responses and helpful advice set the tone and
the house was spotlessly clean on arrival (having been vacated the same
day). Our somewhat haphazard and exhausting journey was quickly
forgotten upon opening the wine waiting for us in the kitchen (the drive
from London had been slightly longer than planned after 2 flat tyres!!!).
The Blue Monkey is gorgeous - it surpasses all expectations of a 'holiday
home'. It is spacious, well equipped and tastefully decorated. It is clearly
loved by its owners and I have to say that we have fallen in love with it too. I
would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone and we will
definitely return in the foreseeable future. Having stayed with a toddler, I
can vouch for the home being safe and 'easy' to relax in. It is also so
refreshing to stay somewhere that has got the bulky equipment you need to
hand e.g. travel cot, highchair etc (there is lots of stuff for smaller babies
Kingsand-Cawsand is enchanting. A magical, hidden piece of Cornish
paradise. Everyone is so friendly and the house is perfectly located 1 minute
from the beach and 30 seconds from a deli, pub and shop!
We loved everything and can't wait to book again for next year.
Civilized house in idyllic village
'Blue Monkey' is situated a short distance from two lovely beaches, one sandy and 'dog-free,' the other shingle and 'definitely doggy friendly.' Both beaches are great for kids, and the village has all you need to enjoy them. One of our group described both the house and village as 'Fulham on Sea!' Quite apt in a way, as the property has been renovated and furnished with an eye for period detail and casual elegance, and the village has a deli which would not shame one of London's 'villages.'
If you don't like white and prefer chintz then you won't feel at home here - otherwise you'll love it as we did. Superb bathrooms (white, of course) with claw foot free-standing baths and powerful showers. Cosy living room, very much 'on view' though as virtually every passer-by stares in - but you can always close the shutters.
The small patio garden is a lovely feature - a real sun trap, with well placed seating. The kitchen is very well equipped, with new appliances.
We loved the villages of Cawsand and Kingsand: so pretty yet so well served, with an excellent local shop (open 7am - 7pm). From Cawsand beach you can take a ferry to Plymouth, where you will land adjacent to the steps from which the 'Mayflower' set sail in 1620. Plymouth is unexpectedly pleasnt, with a superb new shopping mall that's easily the equal of the classiest ones in the States - and I know my US malls!
We had two very good meals at the deli, which also serves a great breakfast, but our best meal of the week was at 'The View,' just a couple of miles away in Whitsand Bay. This place confounds the adage that anywhere with a wonderful view must have bad food - it was superb in every way. 'Blue Plate' in Downderry was disappointing in that they did not have enough staff for the number of diners, so there were long waits, but the food was good when it arrived.
The perfect Conish fishing village experience!
Blue Monkey was just what i wanted from a weekend away in Cornwall. The house itself just oozzzes relaxation, whether cooking intimate dinners by a log fire or having a BBQ in the garden, it was prefect for catching up with old friends. There is just so much you could do, being so close to the sea. The coastal walks are amazing and dotted with forts, caves and bays you can almost sense the pirate legends. But the village also has that wonderful cornish atmosphere so whether you want to chill out at the deli with a proper pasty or crab salad, watch the boats sail in, swim in the sea or listen to the awesome live music at the pub which is literally stumbling distance away, you can't help but fall in love with the place, its incredibly romantic and worthy of a Daphne Dumarier setting. We are so happy when guests make a new discovery and have a great break at Blue Monkey. Michael Winner (Director and food critic) visited the village and Polhawn Fort recently to judge the final of his "Dining with the Stars." He to was very complimentary and enjoyed his visit and like you he visited the great Deli, literally 40m from the front door run by the ever passionate Mel & Mike.
Maybe next time you might be able to sample 2 fantastic restaurants less than 5 and 20 minutes away 1. theview-restaurant.co.uk Tel: 01752822345 & 2. the blueplatecornwall.com Tel: 01503 250 308.

Amazing amazing amazing!!
Very amazing place with the most superb location.
Great facilities and the local village is fab with lots of lovely pubs!
what a place
If your want to explore Cornwall and stay in a village that hasn't been spoilt by
tourists or harsh developments, then Cawsands is the go. The village is
stunning with 3 good pubs, one good deli / cafe and has a real Cornish
friendly feel. Blue Monkey will complete the picture, I have stayed there a few
times now, and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Beautifully decked out inside,
lots of space, cosy, awesome big baths and an outside area too. It couldn't be
closer to the action, and got a real sense of being part of the village
atmosphere and puts you in a great spot to walk from. Highly recommend
Blue Monkey to anyone, and trust me you won't regret the experience. m Read more

We are so glad that you have discovered this forgotten corner of Cornwall. Cawsand is a gem of a find, a million miles away from city life. Once there you cannot help but totally relax and fall in love with its relaxed way of life and charm, the friendly locals over a pint will happily act as a great source of local knowledge and involve you with local activities. For example if you fancy rowing a Cornish gig then outings are arranged during the summer months via the Cawsand Gig and Sailing club .
I am sure you have discovered for yourself the stunning coastal path right on your door step. Cawsand is right in the middle of 2 great destinations; Mount Edgecombe House and Gardens (01752) 822236 and Rame Head/ Whitsand Bay. If you head from Cawsand to Mount Edgecombe (2 hour walk) along the tree lined walk you will come to Mount Edgecombe House and Gardens and when there do try the refreshments from the beautifully positioned restaurant in the Orangery which serves great cream teas, warm meals and delicious Cornish ice cream. Also there is the very welcoming pub Edgecombe Arms (01752) 822 294 to reward you for your troubles. Heading in the other direction from Cawsand you can take a 20 minute walk to Penlee Point chapel and if you continue on round to the vantage point Rame Head (50 minutes walk), on a clear day you can see Edison lighthouse – an artist’s paradise.
There are so many activities to do in the local area children will be spoilt for choice; we have listed a few of our favourites that we regularly frequent and highly recommend you calling them before you arrive to confirm your booking. Please feel free to mention Blue Monkey when making the booking:

Blue Monkey was, as ever, the perfect place to come to enjoy a weekend away.
I think I may have to move there permanently!
We had great spring sunshine, bracing sea walks and some good horse riding-
the surf and kayaking will have to wait till the sea warms up next time.
The house itself has everything you might need- it is a treat to wake up to the
scent of freshly baked bread and then, at the end of the day, to snooze in
front of the fire.
On arrival at Blue Monkey was lovely and clean. a very spacious and welcoming house with everything you need of a holiday home. The log fire was lovely. We have been going to Kingsand/Cawsand for 5 years now and we love the village. We ate at Cross Key Inn and The Boat house on the Cleave, and as normal both didn't fail to please - delicious.
Beautiful house in lovely Cornish village
The house is perfectly situated in this lovely Cornish village. The house is very spacious but has a lovely homely feel, beautifully decorated and very well equipped, making for a great stay. I would definitely like to visit again.
Stunning child friendly house in picture perfect Cornish village
We enjoyed a fabulous long weekend at Blue Monkey
over New Year and have no hesitation in highly
recommending it to other people! In fact we have
been telling all our family and friends to stay
there. The house is absolutely stunning -
wonderfully light and airy - with large bedrooms
and high ceilings - perfect for large groups /
families with good entertaining space and cosy
corners to hide away with a book. The location
could not be better - right in the heart of the
village, a stone's throw from the beach and within
stumbling distance of some classic local pubs. We
can't wait to go back to what is a real home from
Superb family holiday house in Cawsand
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house is superbly equipped, decorated to a high standard and brilliantly maintained. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms are large and there's a real sense of space even when the house is full.
We enjoyed the fact that the house is in a great location right in the heart of the village with a choice of pubs only a short stroll away. We loved the stunning views from along the coastal path and enjoyed some of the many outdoor activities available locally.
We would definitely recommend this house and fully intend to return in the not too distant future.
The perfect retreat
Blue Monkey really is the perfect holiday house - brilliantly kitted out for any occasion, cosy, fabulous bathrooms and bedrooms; a real treat to stay in. I can't recommend it enough. And Kingsand and Cawsand is such a beautiful place, with its stunning coastline, community spirit, great pubs and best of all, hilarious dressing up on new year's eve and then new year's day swimming in full costume! We went back to London feeling like we'd been away for ages and it had only been 3 days.
Cornish comfort at Blue Monkey
We spent a long weekend at Blue Monkey in December 2009 and loved the place. It is clear from the moment that you walk
through the front door that the owners have put a lot of effort into the design and feel of the house, turning it into a much more
sophisticated-than-average holiday let. Particular features we liked were the spacious and well kitted-out kitchen, huge and
comfortable main bedrooms & bathrooms, and fantastic log fire in the sitting room – perfect for long winter evenings. The location
is excellent too – quiet and yet right in the heart of the village. If you do go and stay, make sure you use the deli a few doors along
from the house, very good for top quality supplies! Overall, Blue Monkey comes highly recommended.
Fab cottage in beautiful village with amazing beach
Blue Monkey is perfect - big kitchen, comfy beds, open fire. Cawsand has lots of pubs and beautiful beaches, and the walks along the coast are spectacular. Couldn't recommend it more highly!

Great start to the year
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blue Monkey. My sister and family travelled from Glasgow and my family came from Bedfordshire. The house was perfect for our needs. Beautifully refurbished. Very clean, with everything we could possibly need. Great location for Polhawn Fort where we attended a wedding. We had some lovely walks, and spent far too many hours in the local pub, by the end of our stay we had made some great friends. We've come home feeling relaxed and chilled ready to take on the year ahead. We've all discussed how we would love to return to Blue Monkey for another great holiday. Read more

That is great to hear the wedding at polhawnfort.com was a great success and you had a cosy relaxing stay in Blue Monkey. We were at Blue Monkey over New Year and like you walked every day either to Mt Edgcombe house, Penlee Point or Rame Head. The views were amazing and you could see all the way out to Edison Light house and further a field to the far headland where Salcombe is tucked around. We love to hear like minded people have had a great stay and we welcome you back at any point in the future.
Best wishes Ed
The Williams and Liddy Families
Upon arrival we were greeted by the most wonderful, spacious and
welcoming house we have ever stayed in. Wine in the fridge, crisp Egyptian
cotton sheets on the bed, fresh towels and lovely products to use. The 3
children spent the first hour just running from room to room just enjoying
the light and the space before we took them on the short (30second?) walk
to the delightful beach.
The house was wonderfully equipped for children - there was a blender for
making purees, Sky TV for the odd CBeebies programme!, a high chair and
a stair gate at the top of the house where the children slept. Each room was
decorated beautifully and kept to a very high standard, extremely clean and
comfortable to live in - like a hotel! The main bedroom with it's luxurious
bathroom was pure heaven - soaking in the tub with a gin and tonic after a
hard day at the beach was perfection.
The beaches and the local walks were perfect for both children and adults,
running routes were glorious, crabbing was entertaining and the local ale,
ice cream and pasties were delicious.
This is a place I can imagine returning to again and again as the children
grow older - where they really can be children; running bare foot past the
house with a sense of pure freedom, wielding crab nets and shrieking with
laughter is something that all children should experience and Blue Monkey
is the place to do it.
Thank you very much for a wonderful stay.

A gorgeous holiday house nestled away in the middle of Cawsand. Brilliant location within seconds of the beach, pubs and shop - the house itself it extremely comfortable and spacious and has everything you need for a perfect holiday. We were lucky enough to stay on a beautifully sunny weekend when we could enjoy breakfast in the sunshine in the courtyard garden. We will definitely be going back!
Cawsand is a wonderful retreat from London, arriving using the little boat ferry from Plymouth you are already in a different world. Village life in Cawsand was friendly, relaxing and a lot of fun at New Year!! Good food, good pubs, beautiful coastal walks and amazingly sunny days at the beach even in January!
Blue Monkey was the perfect place to stay - beautiful house and decor, lots of space, cosy open fire and hot showers after the less sunny days!
I think anybody who stays here will love it.
Blue Monkey is a perfect holiday rental for either a family or group. When I stayed there in June the weather was perfect and it was great to be so close to the sea but also right in the middle of a beautiful seaside village.
The house is very comfortably laid out and it is impossible not to relax when you are there. I thoroughly recommend it.
The Blue Monkey - finally
40 years or so we have walked along the sea front road and past the Blue Monkey.
Of course all those years we wanted to live there and now we can afford it we no longer wish to be anywhere else than where we are - but that is life.
But if we did decide to live at the seaside I cannot imagine any nicer village than Kingsand & Cawsand or indeed any nicer house than The Blue Monkey for it is absolutely delightful in the village and in the house. It is extremely comfortable and provides everything that you could wish for. It is solid and warm when you need it, and cool when you wish to get out of the. Three pubs withing no more than five minutes walk and a lovely 'everything' shop with lovely marmalade.
It was a joy to stay there and to be inside looking out at the passers-by who were gazing in at our log fire: it was nice not to be the 'passers-by' after all these years. Read more

Many thanks for your review, I am so very glad you finally managed to find your home away from home and knowing what an enchanting village Cawsand is I hope you will be returning to Blue Monkey for many years to come. Best wishes Ed
Stunning family holiday home in Cawsand, amazing location!
We stayed in the stunning 'Blue Monkey' cottage in Cawsand over New Year, and would recommend the property to anyone.
The biggest draw is its location - right in the heart of the village, yet go into the cute courtyard garden and it's completely peaceful! The quiet town beach & sea front is literally a 1min walk across the street which was fantastic; your morning coffee won't even cool as you take it along with you to sit on the sea wall & read the papers!
It had a nice atmosphere too; it very quickly felt like 'home', aside from the 'boutique hotel'-style en-suite of the master bedroom was definitely a step above our bathroom at home! ;-)
It was clear that the owners have put a great deal of thought into various personal touches around the house - for example the bed linen is of a high quality as is the crockery. There's also a shower on the ground floor by the utility room - perfect for washing off sandy feet or wetsuits!
Would highly recommend - we have already booked up for later this year. Read more

Kings Langley, Hertfordshire
We want to live there.....
We first fell in love with the area, then Kingsand
and Cawsand and now Blue Monkey. The villages are
pure Cornish, steeped in history and with local
people that are simply wonderful. Add four great pubs
each of which prides itself on its beer and cooking,
a beautiful outlook on to Cawsand Bay and you just
about have the lot.
Blue Monkey is divine and the owners have decorated
and equipped it to colour supplement levels of style
Superb! We are back there next year.
