Description from the manager

The owners of Carolyn’s and Carolyn’s Other House, Mark & Carolyn, purchased the property the houses stand on 25 years ago. Married on the property before any construction, they returned to Caye Caulker many times before deciding to build. The original cottage was built by Mark and his friends and finished with hardwood floors and a simple yet charming decor. With a marvellous view of the reef and Caribbean Sea from the deck and the trade winds cooling the house, the cottage has been a huge success with travellers from all over the world.

There is now a second cottage on the property, Carolyn’s Other House. A little larger, with...Read more

      Would Love to Return

Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Visited this cottage in april and had a wonderful experience. Kim arranged our transportation from the airport to the island and it all went smoothly. Cottage was very clean, everything worked, and the location is wonderful. We rented bikes for the week and that's a very easy way to get wherever you want to go. Not too close to town, but only a couple minute bike ride to the markets and restaurants. Front porch is perfect for just hanging out. You can hear the waves breaking over the reef, and catch the sunrise also. There is not a classic beach at this cottage, but you could easily wade out for a swim, or there's a dock available that extends out in to the ocean. Although a bike path goes between the house and the water, there's very little activity on the path. Never noticed anything at night.
Kim advised us to use French angel for our snorkeling trip and he was exactly right. They are great and I highly recommend them. Nice guys that really cared about both us and the environment. Kim also arranged a great trip to the Mayan Temples. Again, a very good recommendation.
Overall, I would definitely come back to this cottage. I believe it's a good value, and the property management responded to all of our questions. It helped having someone that was familiar with the island that could point out the good along with the potentially less than good.

I did not want to leave

Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in March 2013

A beautiful cottage with charm, comfort and a view of the sea. What a lovely place to relax and unwind. We toured the island on our bikes and went diving and snorkeling. The food was amazing! After each adventure we had this wonderful place to come home to...Carolyn's Other House. I want to go back today!

      Great beachfront house

Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Everything you need In a beachfront cabin. Built in a very attractice and practical local style. We used Caye Caulkers Rentals as a general source of local info and they were very helpful. Though close to town, it's well worth renting bicycles to get around. Close to restaurants. Standard of food is very good generally - the Little Kitchen is worth a visit. The swimming off the local beach is not the greatest, so plan on making trips to the reef which is terrific.

      Awesome view, breezes

Left on 05/05/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Caye Caulker is awesome! Sand streets, friendly people, beautiful water, delicious food. The house is nice. There is a bit too much furniture, making it crowded. The bathroom is nice, clean. Kitchen is very small, but workable. The screens were broken, bent, torn. The door lock was difficult. The deck facing the water is very close to the foot path on the beach. We got bit very badly at night, and at first thought it was bed bugs, but after asking around, realized it was sand flies or sand fleas. These are no-seeums. Really, you can't see them. I assume they were getting in because the screens weren't right. We ended up putting Deet on before bed. By the time we left, though, they had quit biting us.

The location of the house is a bit south of the main part of town. I liked that, but walking is required unless you rent a bicycle or golf cart. Just walk, it's easier. No one cleans the beach in this area, so there's plant material and trash at the water line. In town there are always guys raking and removing the debris.

The snorkeling near the reef is amazing!! We took Carlos Tours trip twice.

      Manager

      Hello Kiki,

Thank you for your review. In regards to screens, if I had known there was an issue with screens, it would have been addressed immediatly. All the door lock needed was some lubrication and we would have addressed that as well. While not perfect here, we do try very hard to ensure our homes are well maintained. I visited the house today and the screens were intact.

Sand flies, the national bird of Belize, get us all, no matter what precautions we take. And there is no ryhme or reason with them. They can make life a little difficult.

The beach: Yes, plastic, the scourge of Belize. In the 3 1/2 years I have run this company, I would hazard we have picked up a dump truck load of plastic off of that beach alone. I just do not have the resources to clean it every day and the Village Coucil only does the main streets and the village beaches.

I am sorry your stay had some issues and have taken your complaints seriously. Thank you for your business and we hope to be able to serve your accommodation needs in the future.

      Thanks, Kim

      Location, location, location!!!

Left on 03/14/2013 for a stay in January 2013

I have been to Caye Caulker many times. This is the first time I have rented through a rental agency. I would highly recommend Caye Caulker Rentals! They make getting to the Caye as easy and stress free as possible. Carolyn's house is wonderful. A traditional Belizean house with nice upgrades! The attention to detail on the construction of this house shows all through it! The kitchen is stocked with anything you could ever need! The bed is comfortable and having drawers underneath the bed makes storage of clothes nice. Now for the location!!! Right on the beach!!! Enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon cocktails gazing at the beautiful ocean and palm trees while relaxing in the homemade adirondack chairs or swinging in the hammock! And, if you are an early bird, you can enjoy the sunrise too!

View from front deck! Carolyn's house!

We loved Carolyn's House being our beautiful home for a week.

Left on 01/28/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Carolyn's House is beautiful, comfortable and really well-equipped in a gorgeous location. Only five minutes walk from the town centre, but in a tranquil part of the island. We could have spent our whole holiday lazing in the hammock watching the birds and boats if the many delights of Caye Caulker hadn't tempted us out. The team at Caye Caulker Rentals are friendly and efficient and we really couldn't have asked for more ...except perhaps an extra weeks' holiday. Do take their recommendation of a tour with French angel - they are the best nature tour company, with knowledgable and conscientious guides.

      View from the hammock

We have stayed in Carolyn's house the last two times we have visited Caye Caulker...and we look forward to staying there again in February 2013. The quiet location on the beach is lovely and the cabana is cozy and efficient.

      Carolyns House

Left on 12/13/2012 for a stay in April 2012

This rental was absolutely perfect! It was quiet, right on the water with amazing views. The house itself is simple but has everything you need to feel like a little home away from home. You are close to everything so u can walk if you do not want to rent a bike. It has a dock you can lay out on and snorkel from. The owner of the property managment company is a great man who has excellent customer service and you will meet him when you first arrive to pay for your stay. There is a house by same owner next door that is a little larger. Both I would highly recommend and everytime we travel to Belize we will always try to book carolyns houses!

      Carolyn's House

Left on 12/11/2012 for a stay in November 2012

The house is just south of "downtown", but we loved the location. Not too far for us to walk places and we enjoyed the quiet area. Kim and amie were very helpful and made the whole experience enjoyable. It was super easy to make the reservations and they even helped us make our departing arrangements - water taxi, taxi to the airport, etc. I would highly recommend using Caye Caulker Rentals.

      Perfection!

Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We had such a fabulous time in Carolyn's House on this little island. The balcony was the most perfect place to take breaks from the heat, ready your book, drink your beer, have your breakfast and coffee - we loved it! We got engaged on that porch our first night in Belize which set the tone for the rest of the trip! From when we arrived in Belize city to arriving at the house we were taken care of, taxi's met us at each point so the trip was a breeze.
We loved having our bikes as we could take the very short ride into town a few times a day. Having access to the swimming dock was also really nice. The house had everything you needed - most importantly a coffee maker. Such an awesome trip and it wouldn't have been the same with out a week at this house.

      Vacationers little paradise

Left on 10/31/2012 for a stay in August 2011

From the moment we got here it was our little home away from home. It was cozy, clean and beautiful with gorgeous views of the ocean just steps away! We even had a storm the first night we were there and it was still great ! The most romantic little get away house ever. The neighbors were great... We only had one night that some rowdy vacationers at the hotel next to us that were too loud too late into the night but aside from that it was paradise. We still talk about visiting "our" little house. Five Stars

Loved our time at Carolyn's House

Left on 10/30/2012 for a stay in June 2012

My husband and I booked Carolyn's house for our anniversary.
It was exactly what we wanted. The view was wonderful. A little slice of Caribbean relaxation. Kim (of Caye Caulker Rentals) was a great host and gave us really good advice and help.
