      Private and Quiet Gemma

Left on 05/05/2013 for a stay in April 2013

My boyfriend and I had a great time in caye caulker. Villa Gemma was exactly as pictured and described. We loved the shady deck with the hammocks provided for a nice quiet afternoon of reading and enjoyed being away from everyone else, just a short bike ride away. Vincent and the rest of the staff were very helpful with bike rentals and providing us with more water as soon as we needed. We loved having a full kitchen at our disposal and were very grateful that the kitchen came with some ice cube trays- they were appreciated ! We never did figure out the Internet. We were told the house had wifi but a connection never appeared on our devices and from what we could tell there didn't appear to be any router. However, we never asked Vincent or anyone to fix this as it really wasn't much of a concern for us.
Our only complaint was the heat- which we did anticipate to some degree. The house held a lot of heat throughout the day and with the warnings from Vincent to keep all windows closed, we were apprehensive to open them at night to cool the space down. Although the stairs from the deck to the yard may be convenient for some, we found them unnecessary ( but are they there for safety/in case of fire?) If there were no outside stairway, the side and front windows on the second floor could have been left open all night which may have helped cool the house a bit. Regardless, we had a great stay and the space was everything we expected. The staff were friendly, informative and helpful.

      Manager

      Hello Kristin,
Thank you for your review. In regards to wif, Villa Gemma does not feature it and after reviewing our correspondence, I could not find where we might have mistakenly alluded to wifi being available. With regards to heat, we always favor the side of caution with security being primary over ventilation. I do understand that the house can get a bit uncomfortable from time to time, especially on those days when there is no wind. Victor (not Vincent) has been advised by me to accentuate security as we have had some issues with that house. Since we strengthened our advisory on closing up, we have had no incidents.

I am happy you had a good time and will speak to the owner next week regarding more portable floor fans to help push some air around. I do appreciate your comments and hope to see you again in the future.

      Best regards, Kim

      Love Caye Caulker!

Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in February 2013

This was my 3rd trip to Caye Caulker. I booked a little late for going the time of year I went. Most places were booked, Villa Gemma was open, I checked it out, it wasn't right down in the middle of the village but I said okay. Well, it was a great little place I called it "My villa in the jungle" it wasn't really the jungle but there were lots of plants all around it which made it very private and quiet. We rented bikes for the week we were there and that made it no problem getting where ever we wanted within 5 or so minutes of easy riding. If you are flying in and out of the Caye you are in walking distance to the airport, and planes do not leave real early or late in the evening so no problem there.
I can't wait to go visit again and if Villa Gemma was available I would stay there again.

The bedroom which is upstairs The kitchen The living room, the dining area is where I am standing, I don't have a pic...of it or the bathroom, but the whole place is nice.

A quiet, wonderful place to stay

Left on 01/24/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Villa Gemma is a gem. My family loved being a bit secluded, but also enjoyed our daily bike rides through the friendly neighborhood that is Caye Caulker. We met many people, and had some great experiences during our stay, thanks to Kim and the rest of the folks at Caye Caulker Rentals. Just get there, and say hello to the wish-willies for us!

Wonderful hideaway just a short bike ride from fun, food and ent

Left on 11/13/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Our group of 3 loved Villa Gemma. Just a short bike ride from anywhere on the Island. Hammocks, porch swing and mosquito netting added to our enjoyment. Cute kitchen with everything you need for some light meal prep.
Construction next-door the whole week was a bit of a problem for afternoon resting, and people with stair issues need to be careful (very steep stairs).
We were well taken care of by rental staff. Recommendations for day trips, restaurants, boat times and activities were very helpful. Arrangements for transportation on the mainland, and boat to rental office to the Villa were appreciated.

House and island great, split, not so great!

Left on 11/13/2012 for a stay in January 2012

We rented this house about a year ago and it was very lovely and tucked back away from the people! We rented bikes and had a great time strolling around enjoy the island. Our host was awesome as well and filled us in on all we needed to know about the island life of Caye Caulker. One huge problem! Hang around the split too long and the local guys will
not leave you alone! My husband just wanted to fish and relax but too many of the local drunks and pot smoking locals insisted on begging for money everyday. One day there was a police officer standing in the tree line watching everything take place and did nothing! We met Nicky from Maruba resort there and he convinced us to leave Caye Caulker and go stay with him. What a great idea! I love the small island but they really need to get a handle on their drug problem and the locals that harass the visitors. I know our host felt bad but it was too late. We left the house three days early and headed for the mainland via airplane!! I will never go stay on that island again and it's a shame. Watch out for a guy named Standly! Sorry but he's trouble!!
