Cayman Cottage is a wonderful, clean and fully equipped vacation home on the south side of Cayman Brac. The owner/caretaker is very kind.
The outside of the home has lots of palm trees, potted plants, a hammock, table and chairs and a ton of friendly hermit crabs.
You can see the ocean from the kitchen window when washing dishes. Sue told us she always lets the people that are renting have the beach. The beach is beautiful.
The inside of the cottage is very cozy. When you walk in the front door, you're in the dining room area. There are three couches, one of which is a futon. There's a tv with about 31 channels.
The kitchen is fully equipped. Utensils, pots, pans, etc. There's an oven, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, two sinks with one faucet, a toaster, and other things. There are lots of ice trays in the freezer that you can use to fill the ice chest that's in the laundry room. There's also a washer and dryer. In the kitchen pantry, people leave behind some items, such as no stick cooking spray and spices.
In the bathroom, there's lots of stuff left behind too, like razor blades in their packages, shaving cream, unopened deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.
The bed is queen size. Lots of drawers and two closets. Plus a huge mirror, outlets right there, etc. Us-style outlets.
The island is very, very safe. Guns are illegal, and even the police don't carry firearms.
All shops and restaurants accept us or Cayman Island currency, and there's a bank with an aTM if needed.
Restaurants are 5 minutes walking distance in both directions, and there's a liquor store too. The main market is about a 30 minute walk.
We drove around the entire island several times, went in tons of shops and small markets, tasted great food and had a really fantastic time snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, dining, drinking, swimming and relaxing. Stay at Cayman Cottage. It's low cost, very quality and makes a perfect home for a getaway on the tiny island of Cayman Brac.

If this is your first trip to the Brac, then Cayman Cottage is for you. We've been coming to the Brac for 10 years and love the serenity of the protected reef lagoon at the cottage. Many times the sea is too rough elsewhere to swim or snorkle, but you can always swim in the lagoon. We like having our morning coffee out on the beach beneath the palms and watching the sun come up. Many mornings we'll see baby turtles sticking up their heads and you'll always see more sea birds here. After a day in the sea, sun, and wind, you can relax in the "courtyard patio" in front of the cottage--there's a hammock beneath lush foliage and a table with chairs. You can go to a couple of restaurants on foot--as well as the liquor store. A grocery store is a short drive from here. Or you can explore the whole island from this cottage. Sue Smartt will be able to answer any questions you have or she will welcome you here and leave you alone to enjoy yourselves. The kitchen is very well-equipped if you have a mind to cook, as well.
Many times of the year, you can turn your beach chair to the east and watch the sun rise over the sea and then at the end of the day, turn it to the west and watch the sun set, all from one spot.
We recommend Cayman Cottage for your Brac vacation.

We loved our time at Cayman Cottage on the Brac! This was our second trip to the Cottage and it was as wonderful as we remembered! The cottage has its own private, gorgeous beach that we drank coffee on early in the morning, snorkeled and sunned on in the afternoons and watched the beautiful sunsets each evening! It is clean, well maintained and comfortable. The owner is friendly and pleasant, accommodating any requests or questions we had. We walked to one of three nice restaurants most evenings, for delicious seafood or local island specialties. The island is very safe and the local people are friendly. We walked the island exploring each day and never had a minute of apprehension. We highly recommend Cayman Cottage for your taste of Paradise!

Everyone visits a new place for different reasons. For me, it's normally a chance to slow down, relax, decompress, and reflect on where I've been and where I'm going. For that, Cayman Cottage is perfect.
Cayman Brac is just far enough off the beaten path you're unlikely to be bumping in to co-workers at the bar; and the island is populated with people friendly enough that you can start a conversation after a wave and a smile.
The cottage is clean, well apportioned and complete. No bells and whistles, just everything you need to enjoy life. Sue, the proprietress is warm, friendly and a wealth of knowledge of the people and area.
Everything in life is about your expectations and what you appreciate. If you're a high roller who's used to room service and chocolates on the pillow, you'll probably want to stay on Grand Cayman at the Ritz-Carlton.
If you're self contained and looking for somewhere quiet and private to spend time with your thoughts or a loved one, this is an excellent choice. Just make sure to bring flip-flops, a floppy hat, shades and sunscreen.
Enjoy! -

Cayman Cottage is the perfect getaway. The cottage is perfect for a couple, although there is a futon in the living room for another two people. There is a kitchen to cook your own creative cuisine or there are a couple relaxing restaurants available within walking distance when you want a break from cooking. Sue has a great private beach with gorgeous sunsets. Whether you just want to swim, snorkel, or dive, the Brac has what you are looking for. Look forward to seeing spotted rays, turtles, reef sharks, and a variety of colorful and interesting fish. As you beach comb along Sue's private beach, you may see a stingray glide along just a couple feet from you or spot an octopus or squid "wave" at you from beneath a rock. The octopus brings his dinner of conch to the rock, and you are more than welcome to take the empty conch shell when he finishes. There are plenty of shells and coral fossils to collect, too! Bring an empty suitcase for all your souvenirs! While the Brac may be a little off the beaten path, the reefs are world class. If you are looking to get away from the hustle of the tourist traps this is the place to be. Everyone on the island is very friendly, and no one is in a hurry. We have visited Sue twice now and consider this one of our trips that we will plan each year.

We have stayed at Cayman Cottage several times and have enjoyed each visit. We love the garden space in front with the resident hermit crabs and song birds. It is fun to lay in the lounge chairs and just look at the water or go out at night with flashlights and look for starfish, shrimp, etc. The house is cozy, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The owner, Sue is wonderful and considerate.

We never intended to make any place a permanent destination for our Caribbean fix every year but for the last four years, after our first trip, we just keep going back the the little cottage in Cayman Brac. The owner has become like a extended family member and constantly fusses over our comfort, which is nice but not necessary. We feel like the cottage is our little island home for the two weeks we spend there. Right on the best beach in Cayman Brac, there's easy access to snorkel from the shore right in front of the cottage. You can walk right across the street to the hotel that has a fine dining restaurant and a bar that has great food. The cottage is always clean, there's a washer and dryer so no need to overpack. If you're looking for high end hotel type amenities, you might want to look elsewhere, if you want a homey feel and a more casual atmosphere, the Cayman Cottage is perfect.
