Toad River, B.C. CanadaOur awesome Belize Vacation!
Left on 05/25/2012 for a stay in January 2012
Our 3 month stay in Belize at Casitas Calinas was the most wonderful vacation ever! Absolute Paradise!
This secluded piece of prestine jungle on the edge of the Belize River with it's many well groomed hiking trails and natural creek and pools is outstanding.
If you want to experience Belize and it's natural beauty then... This Is The Place!
The owner Nadja Preisig was an outstanding host and very friendly, willing to help out whenever needed.
We booked our Cabana through the internet and it was everything that was advertised and so much more.
The Cabana was very comfortable, with every convenience to make our stay enjoyable. The place is run on Solar Energy which was great and very reliable. The well which supplied our water was good and safe to drink.
The screened in deck was our favorite spot, where we loved to relax and listen to the Howler Monkeys in the trees nearby, many jungle critters and thousands of beautiful birds singing just outside our Cabana.
The grounds keeper was so friendly and very imformative on the jungle and critters there. He did such an awesome job keeping the grounds looking so lovely and groomed. The housekeeper was sweet and kind and did a great job cleaning our Cabana, and making it beautiful with her floral touches.
We rented our Wingle 4x4 from Casitas Calinas, it was very reliable and comfortable, making our touring very enjoyable.
We loved the Cayo District and the location was great. Only about 30 minutes from Belmopan(the capital)and all major amenities.
Everyday in Belize was an adventure and we felt so relaxed and safe at Casitas Calinas that we can't wait to come back!

Would we stay here again? Enthusiastically yes! We would not even pause to consider any other place in Belize. Recommend it to our friends and family? That would depend on who. If you are expecting a critter-free environment with room service and spa treatments, this is not the place for you. In fact, why are you even looking at reviews for mainland Belize?! However,if you want a private sanctuary, are not afraid of a few bugs, and want to hear nothing but the wild around you before you go to bed and when you awake,Casitas Calinas is the place for you.
Nadja and Silvan were great hosts. They knew that we were there for privacy, and they gave us all the space we needed. We were there for a full 2 weeks, and other than the maid twice per week to clean and do laundry,we saw and heard no one! That is our idea of paradise. However,we did see several bird species,a multitude of flowers, and Crystal even spotted a spider monkey!
It was great to come back here after a hard day of spelunking, hiking or Mayan ruin exploring,(see other reviews under our "BloomingPassion" profile),turn on the aC in the bedroom and know that when we went to bed we could sleep in comfort.
For breakfast,we experienced another new thing:stealing eggs from chickens! Perhaps those who live rural don't think anything of it,but for city folk like us,it was fun to go to the chicken coop in the morning for our breakfast instead of the fridge.
The water is potable right out of the tap,(insert disclaimer). We brought our Katadyn and Steripen and used them only the first couple of days. Then we got lazy, and never suffered for it. The patio is Huge! It is near the size of the entire interior. We slept and cooked inside, but most of our time that we were not away we spent reclining, enjoying the wild around us, and maybe checking email on the free Wifi.
Squeemish and/or resorty types? Stay away!
Seeking tropical paradise and tranquil solitude - look no further. Book today!!!

My wife and I think Casitas Calina has it all whether you are looking for a quiet hideaway in a beautiful jungle setting or want a comfortable base to visit Belmopan, various aztec ruins, go cave tubing, hang out in San Ignacio(casino if youre interested)in that part of Belize. We did plenty of both. Nadja and Silvan are excellent hosts, there if you need them but not intrusive in any way. Silvan is an expert in solar energy and the entire compound runs on solar which proved to be much more dependable than the electricity in Hopkins. The cabins are well made with full kitchens, excellent water pressure, comfortable beds and large porches for relaxing. Wonderful hosts, clean, modern accomodations in a spectacular setting. What more can we say.

My husband and I had a wonderful week here at Casitas Calinas. The house was great and was stocked with everything you need. The grounds are very well kept and are gorgeous. We had a lot of fun trekking down the jungle trails. If you are going to Belize, you should definitely stay there.

Left on 10/10/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We spent nearly 2 months here this past summer while helping members at Feedom House of Belize in Roaring Creek.
The stay was awesome - beyond what we dreamed when we made our reservations. My wife loved it when the Howler Monkeys sang to us. It was quiet and away from the highway, yet only 15-20 minutes to Belmopan.
We will definately stay there again when our travels take us to Belize again. -

We heard about Casitas-Calinas through friends who had stayed there, and have to say, it most definitely lives up to their wonderful recommendation in every way, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there! It was very clean, comfortable, and the owners have thought of everything a person could need to enjoy their stay!
The location is quiet, private, and so beautiful, and with a rental vehicle, is within reach of everything we wanted to see and do there.
Owners Nadja and Silvan are amazing people, who not only made us feel comfortable and welcome, but with their years of experience in Belize, were also a wealth of information.
A great place to stay while exploring Belize, and we are already planning our next visit! -

Left on 12/15/2010 for a stay in November 2010
My husband and I were picked up at the airport, and driven to our very own, clean, little cabana in the jungle.Nice large screened in porch, where we spent alot of time reading, eating,or just relaxing in the hammock. We watched the howler monkey's in the tree tops while eating our breakfast many a morning. We had a very large tiled bathroom, with shower built for two. Our bed was very comfortable and our kitchen lacked nothing. The cleaning lady kept it spotless. Our hosts,Silvan and Nadja, were very good to us,and treated us like family, bringing us all the eggs we could use, fresh from the chicken coop.We had rented their 4X4 to get around, as we where about fifteen minutes from the capital, Belmopan. We explored alot of Belize in the month we were there. There is a beautiful golf course near by.If you want a peaceful vacation, listening to the birds and hiking on the nature trails, this is what your looking for.
Definitely need transportation to get around, but having the peace and quite, amazing!

Left on 11/04/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We staid about 1 month at Casitas Calinas. The Casita is a place one may feel at home pretty easy. Located really in the middle of the woods, surrounded by the beautiful nature. The Swiss hosts definitely bring the famous Swiss quality and cleanness to a great standard in the complete arrangement.
Casitas Calinas is the perfect place to find a temporary home. Far away from everything but still in close driving distance to Belmopan. Just a short drive from the main road and you sink deep into the dschungel. The energy at this place is indescribable. The monkeys are playing around in the trees just in front of the house. There is one great tree with owls. Never in my live I have seen so many owls. Not to speak about all the parrots, birds and all the other wildlife. Thanks to the chickens, who are wandering all around, there is now trouble with the creepy side of nature such as spiders or snakes. That is great and I have never felt saver than in my time at Casitas Calinas. And then there are those swim holes! I can just say WaU! Beautiful, Crystal clear waters invited even me, who is scared of almost everything, for a daily swim! Really, I hope this place stays the secret and small place it is now. So other longterm renters may find their home far away from home too.
