Right in the middle of the eastern coast of the island is the port town of Sami, the old capital of the island and the perfect base for exploring. On the outskirts of Sami in a peaceful location surrounded by trees with mountain views is Villa Strato, a newly built three storey stone villa. The villa has been constructed using old stone which has been exposed throughout the property to give it a traditional Greek feel but with modern design.
The modern lounge area on the upper ground level is open-plan and very spacious with a feature fireplace, flat screen television, leather sofas and fully equipped kitchen. There is also a full bat...hroom with a washing machine. French doors lead out onto the terrace area and the pool.
Upstairs you will find two bedrooms, one double and one twin bedded, both with ensuite bathrooms. Balconies leading off the bedroom overlook the pool area and have views to the mountains.
The lower ground floor has a twin bedroom/studio which benefits from its own seating area and is ideal for older children who would like a bit more independence but are still in the main house.
The outside area is laid mainly to lawn with a large 10m x 6m freshwater swimming pool. There is a large terrace area with dining table and chairs and a barbeque, making it an ideal place for an evening in. The garden has been stocked with many vegetables, all of which guests are more then welcome to use should they wish.
A 25 minute walk or 5 minute drive will bring you to the centre of Sami, a working port, with many fishing boats and regular ferries to the greek mainland and nearby Ithaka. Along the harbour front there is a wide choice of places to eat and drink together with a number of gift shops. As a working town you will also find a bank, post office, police station, supermarkets and a medical centre.
Further along the coast is the pretty horseshoe shaped harbour of Agia Efimia. During the summer months the harbour front is lined with the many visiting yachts that come to the island every year. Relaxing in one of the many café bars or restaurants is a must. Or for the more energetic amongst you, motorboat rental is available here and there is also a scuba diving centre.
The Sami area was the setting for the making of Captain Correlis mandolin in 2000 with film sets built on Sami harbour front, Antisamos beach and on the hillside above the beach. A lot of the locals were either extras or worked in the background as support staff and will be able to tell you many stories from the filming.
Sami is a perfect base for sightseeing and exploring with many local attractions in easy driving distance. The subterranean Melissani Lake, Drogarati Cave and the fantastic pebble beach of Antisamos which is perfect for snorkelling are all within 5 minutes of the Villa. The pretty harbour village of Agia Efimia is a 10 minute drive and the famous stunning Myrtos Beach is a 15 minute drive, whilst Fiskardo, Assos are no more than 30 minutes. Island hopping is incredibly easy in Sami with Ithaka just a 40 minute ferry trip away. This beautiful uncommercialised island is said to be the home and kingdom of Odysseus and is steeped in history and incredibly important to the Greeks.
If all that sounds too much like hard work there are lots of lovely pebble coves in the area should you just fancy relaxing on a beach or maybe doing a bit of snorkeling in the crystal clear waters. You may even find your own deserted private beach.
The 2nd week half price offer is not applicable to this villa.
