Chania, Crete, Greece
What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
-The Crete region:
Crete is the largest island in Greece. The island offers amazing variety, combining snow-capped mountains, rolling hills covered with olive trees and over 1000 km of varied coastline. Crete has far more endemic plants than any other island in Europe.
-Chania:
Chania has a great history and cultural heritage, partly because it faced many conquerors through time, thus being open to the influences of different civilizations. Chania has many monuments of Byzantine period, Venetian period, Ottoman period and modern History as well as worth-seeing museums, like the Nautical Museum of Crete, the Archaeological Museum of Chania, the house of El. Venizelos, the War Museum of Chania.
The climate of the area is temperate Mediterranean and the temperatures vary at normal levels all year round.
-The Kolymbari area:
Kolymbari, a quiet village nestling between the Mediterranean sea and majestic green cliffs, 23 km west of Chania, is still relatively unaffected by tourism. Kolymbari is known for its nice sandy beach, a small fishing port, cozy tavernas and cafés as well as several restaurants and a few shops.
The Olive Villas complex is situated at the village of Kria Vrissi, 30km south-west of the city of Chania and 10km from the beach of Kolymbari. Its traditional stone architecture blends seamlessly with the surrounding fields of vines, olive and orange trees and the marvellous view of the area mountains. It stands on the site of an old olive press which belonged to the owners' family since the beginning of the 20th century. The more modern olive mill, which remained functional until the 70's, still stands next to the house and the Olive Estate still produces excellent quality extra virgin olive oil.
The house was fully renovated in 2011. Due to its position, it’s ideal for hiking excursions in the surrounding countryside, observing the local village life, or just relaxing while enjoying the sweeping panoramic views. The owners’ links with various cultural organisations in the region make it the perfect starting point for anyone interested in the history of the region, the history of olive cultivation or discovering traditional oil production methods.

Bishop, California, USAVery peaceful and modern accommodations in the mountains
Left on 05/13/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We (4 adults) stayed here a week in april 2013. We had the upstairs 3 bedroom (Zerbera). It has a wonderful patio deck with nice views and an outdoor Barbeque. Interior is nicely finished and modern with tile and wood and a fireplace (the only heat, which may be an issue in early or late season). The price is very reasonable for all the amenities, the modern furnishings and the 3 bedroom 2 bath configuration. Dimitris and Eleftheria were very gracious and attentive to our needs. Cindy's bag did not arrive at the airport, they were even kind enough to fetch it for us in town when the baggage service called. Extras included samples of olive oil, local wine, and raki (very strong alcoholic drink).
About 11 km over narrow winding roads to the National Road at Kolymvari, a good sized town with all the essentials, groceries, fuel, bakery, pharmacy, bank. Excellent location for Kissamos area and Falisarna (stunningly beautiful beach and ancient ruins) and Elafonisi. Our best day trip was over back roads to Sougia and Lissos, a really beautiful drive in spring. Also the large ancient olive tree at Vouves is close to here. If you want to explore the Chania town area and points east, this location is not as good, but doable.
Highly recommended as an alternative to the busy beaches and hotels, especially if you like to prepare your own meals and enjoy the mountains.

Edinburghhad a lovely time here last March
Left on 05/13/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We stayed at Olive Villas in Krya Vrysi for two weeks in March this year. We had a really great time. Kry Vrysi is a small village in the west of Crete away from the usual tourist track and was really peaceful and tranquil among the olive trees and the local village life. There are many hiking trails and even though we went hiking almost every day we didn't manage to explore all of them.
The three different sized apartments are tastefully and thoughtfully renovated and the owners were meticulous about making sure they were tidy and clean. The balconies, terraces and gardens were perfect for sunbathing during the day and also in the evening for relaxing with a glass of wine and admiring the views and the sunset. When we arrived we were met at the house by the owners who welcomed us with some delicious homemade local speciality called raki, and also with some of their own locally grown and produced extra-virgin olive oil. When we left they also surprised us with a gift of their own olive oil. Given our previous experiences, we were amazed by what fantastic value the whole stay proved to be. We never expected so much at such a price! Be prepared though that very little English is spoken in the small grocery shops in the area, more so in the busier areas, but everyone we met was incredibly helpful! Would definitely recommend this place. -

Left on 04/23/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Had a lovely stay in april 2013 at the Olive Villas. Its in a rural country location surrounded by Olive and Orange trees. We walked from the Villa round some of the local villages. Its peaceful and away from it all, and you need a car to travel to the local towns and villages for supplies. We stayed 10 days and the family cleaned the Villas twice while we were there, which I did not expect. It had all the amenities we wanted as we wanted to cook some of our own food. It was decorated nicely and had some nice furniture and plenty of storage and space. It was like being at home. We even lit a fire most nights and it made it very cosy. I would recommend this property to those who like to be in a rural location, near the locals and who want to explore West Crete. We would go again and maybe take some friends with us next time. The owners were there to meet us with the key and even came early on the last day as we had to leave at 9am to catch the flight.

Left on 05/14/2012 for a stay in September 2011
Olive Villas is just the place for a relaxing holiday off the beaten track. It is the most beautiful, specail place. Its mountain views are absolutely stunning. We stayed with friends in villa Zerbera for one week during September. The main positives are the amazing views in combination with the lovely atmosphere and comfortable interiors. Everything is really clean and new. It is ery private and quiet as there are no neighbours nearby and the location is unspoilt by tourism at the moment. The rooms are spacious making the cottage comfortable enough to spend a vacation with friends. The outside spaces are big and safe for kids playing and the verandas are ideal for just drinking your beer or coffee outside and gazing at the beautiful sunset. I would recommend it for a family or as group vacationing together who want to spend a relaxing holiday in a natural environment. But you definitely need to hire a
car.

London, UKAn oasis of peace
Left on 05/13/2012 for a stay in July 2011
We loved our stay at Olive Villa it's a beautiful house so peaceful and the surrounding olive groves, vines, orange trees make a wonderful setting.
The holiday didn't get off to a good start - our flight was delayed several hours - but despite the inconvenience Dimitri the owner was friendly and helpful and made sure we settled in ok.
There are plenty of restaurants and bars in nearby villages or if you want to cook for yourself there is mini market 5 mins drive away in Deliana.
The nearest beach is in Kolymbari, about 15 mins drive. It's pebbly but safe for young children. We'd also recommend Falasarna Beach, 30 km from the house. It's a sandy beach with lovely clean water and one of the best in Greece.
The roads are a bit narrow but generally safe. Be warned it gets hot in summer! 32 Celsius when we visited in July :)
