It was just right for our getaway. We have a hard time getting our schedules to mesh so we jumped at the chance for a romantic, relaxing hideaway by the water. It was perfect. The bed was comfortable, the porch was great for relaxing and the views are outstanding. We loved being so close to the beach and Charleston and plan to get out more on our next trip if we can pry outselves away. The kitchen was well equipped and everything was super clean. Elaine, thanks for being so accomodating and picking up the wine and cheese basket. It was great to meet you and appreciate your reccomendation for the Lost Dog. Everything was perfect and we hope to get back soon. Chris

I loved the cozy, homey apartment that managed to include any amenity I happened to desire. The decor exemplifies true southern charm. Nothing generic about this quiet spot. Hard to say whether my favorite spot for relaxing was the dock or the screened porch by the water. You get to enjoy one of Charleston's most beloved views from either spot! Super close to the best city in the USa and minutes from the beach. Oh, and there is a great place that will not only rent, but deliver kayaks if you are into that. Was beautiful paddling the creek. How to make it back soon! Owners are very friendly and accomadating. I had to check in really late at night and they didn't mind a bit.

This was a lovely weekend stay right on the waters edge. Conveniently located off of Folly Rd, and just before crossing over to Folly Island, it is a perfect place for a single or couples stay.
The apartment is a studio setup, but very roomy. A galley kitchen comes fully furnished with anything you could think of needing for light cooking, a coffee maker, tea kettle and french press. A 4-top, pub table and stools provides nice dining/work space. The bedroom area has a queen bed, day bed, bench and chair. A flat screen television with cable, internet access, and a small CD/radio player are also provided. The bath features a footed soaking tub, with a regular shower. A hairdryer, towels and linens are provided. This little spot is "shabby chic" in its best form! Comfortable and inviting, warm and friendly - it feels like your favorite aunt's beach house, but your privacy is never disturbed. I enjoyed blissful slumber. A gas grill and beach chairs come with the rental, too.
There is full access to the shared deck, dock, and screened room, but a small private porch is attached to the unit. I sat on the dock in the mornings with my coffee, watching the laughing gulls and ibises. A few glasses of wine, a few good friends and watching a full moon rise over the marsh and cut, made the evenings magical.
Ps - This property is about 10-12 miles from downtown Charleston and Folly Rd can be congested in the afternoons. It is very close to Folly Beach, though. James Island/Folly have several rather good restaurants, so do not feel as if you have to go far for a good meal. I lived in Charleston for 25 years before moving to atlanta, and I would not hesitate to stay with these folks again!

My husband and I just stayed here last weekend (11/09 - 11/11/12) and we both fell in love with this little piece of heaven. The view is absolutely breath taking and Elaine (the property manager) is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet and so are the homeowners Jack and Shirley. This is a studio apartment that is less than 10 minutes from downtown. This apartment is attached to the main house but with the private entrance and very respectful of your privacy type owners, you would never know anyone else is around. I can’t imagine anybody not liking it here and we will definitely try to book this rental again when back in the Charleston area. Thank you so much again Elaine for all the great tips on places to eat and visit, Jeff and I had a blast! April & Jeff McGinnis

Spokane, WashingtonStillness on the marsh...

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at the Marsh Place Hideaway (MPH). It was our first visit to the Charleston area and the MPH contributed to making the stay quite special. We had not quite appreciated the situation of the apartment. It is connected to the owner's house, but there is only one shared wall, I think, and we never heard the owners. The entrance is private and convenient (up a flight of stairs located on the outside of the building). The owners graciously allow their guests to use the screened porch and go down to the dock, and this drew us every morning to see the birds and meditate on the beauty. The apartment is inviting, well appointed, and nicely decorated. The bathroom is small for two to negotiate at one time, so we didn't. The cabinetry of the kitchen is functional, but not high end. It never took us longer than 15 minutes to drive into downtown Charleston (though we never tried to do so during rush hour). So we felt close to the action while also being nicely away from the noise and into a totally different pace of life. If you know what you are getting, you will not be disappointed. The MPH is a sanctuary. It's quiet. Elaine (the property manager) is a jewel. The owners gracious and unobtrusive. The Marsh Place Hideaway is a great value, beautifully located, and a place we would not hesitate to return to with our next opportunity.

If you are looking for a quiet place by the marsh then this is it. It's not your normal hotel stay with all the noise. Elaine murry was a gracious host, and the owners of the house were very pleasant and did not get in your way. I would recommend this place to friends & family.

The views from the sunroom were incredible! Marsh Place truly did feel like home. Elaine was warm and welcoming. We had a very relaxing time. There is a queen bed/studio on the main floor with a single bed in the loft area. There are +/- 15 stairs to get to the apartment so those with disabilities would have issues. Additionally the bathroom is on the smaller size (great claw foot tube though) so that might be a consideration for some as well.

Stayed for a week with my 2 daughters ages 13 and 9. Perfect little getaway for my budget and for safety being all females. Away from the tourists, close drive to the beach, and wonderful hosts onsite. I especially enjoyed the beautiful screened in porch in the morning. A perfect spot for coffee, and meditation.
A quick drive into Charleston, the grocery store, Walmart...you name it. Very clean, everything there you could need for eating in. The only improvment that could be made is changing out the draperies for light blocking...it was very bright by 6:30am and hard to stay asleep! -

Marsh Place Hideaway was a perfect getaway for a friend and I to have a relaxing vacation. The views are outstanding! The home was clean and nicely decorated. The owners and Elaine are wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed. We rented bikes and were able to bike to the grocery store, Folly Beach and down some great back roads. We also rented kayaks that we were able to use on the marsh. The best part of the Hideaway was sitting on the dock watching birds and dolphins. We did not have a car and found we didn't need one, but I recommend renting a car if you are coming from the Charleston airport. I would highly recommend this property.

Very comfortable. It is a studio with a small single bed in a loft area upstairs. The sunroom overlooking the marsh was spectacular. Highly recommended place to stay. It is near Folly but you don't have to deal with the crowding of the beach.

This quaint apartment is attached to the side of the main house and is completely private. The listing info & photos are accurate. Easy 2 flight of stairs to the apt, then only a 30 second walk to the dock and gorgeous marsh views! The queen bed sleeps great, linens are top notch and the shower runs strong and hot. The main room is combo kitchen, dining, queen bed, sitting/tv area so floor space is limited. We used the loft bedroom for suitcases, beach stuff, etc. since we have a problem with "packing light". Plus the loft allows individual space for sleeping and reading. Excellent wireless service and plenty of outlets for chargers. Elaine (rental mgr) is the most gracious hostess and the home owners are respectful of your privacy while still being very friendly. This rental is extremely clean, well furnished and only 10-15 mins. to Charleston downtown or Folly Beach. Grocery stores and restaurants are within 5 minutes. Sitting on the dock we watched the sunrise, crabbed and took great photos of marsh wildlife! Our stress levels dropped significantly in the first 15 minutes of arriving. This is the ideal place to rejuvenate and detox one's mind and also experience the fun of Charleston. We'll be back for sure. Thanks Elaine for an awesome stay!!
