If your travels allow for a leisurely stay in the Charlottesville, Va area, then put The Cottage at Sunnybank on your must stay list. I stayed at the cottage 5/17 - 5/20/13 during my niece's graduation weekend from UVa. Thanks to the cottage, and the Novaks, I enjoyed a truly peaceful and wonderful weekend amid all the chaos that is family and graduation events. Close enough to the campus, near enough to the town and all it has to offer, while being far enough away from everything that our day-to-day lives are usually about. Set on a historic farm, you can wander around the grounds and explore, or spend a peaceful afternoon on the back porch. The cottage is just plain sweet; great fireplace, wonderful bed! I really, really loved this place, and the Novaks. I plan to visit again this year.

A friend and I decided to take a trip out to Charlotesville area, and anne's place was phenomenal to stay at, and anne and her husband seem like pretty amazing individuals. We ended up checking in at about 10PM because of a long day at work prior, but anne didn't mind waiting up for us to greet us and get us situated. The room was extremely homey, and breakfast was amazing to wake up to. I'm definitely planning on returning soon :)

Soothing comfort for the stressed. Set amid a positive oasis of quiet, this is more than just a B&B.; It is the perfect B&B.Perfect; bed, perfect breakfast, great coffee and great donuts to set you up for the day of exploring the beaautiful countryside. Little extras mean a lot, treats from the kitchen, fresh flowers, a split of wine to sip on your porch and a wealth of local information from caring hosts anne and Jim made the stay very special. A repeatable must. Charlottesville and its surroundings has so much to offer, art, history, vineyards and The Cottage is an ideal location from which to visit.

I stayed at The Cottage at Sunnybank for two nights in December, initially because of convenience. I found it to be clean, quiet and extremely comfortable.
The owners, the Novak's, and their extremely cool dog Joe, are personable and helpful without being overbearing. Their knowledge of the area has enticed me to return to The Cottage with a friend during the summer to explore the local vineyards and some of the other attractions the Charlottesville area offers.
All in all, The Cottage offers a quiet relaxing getaway for a weekend or a week. As such, I highly recommend it as both an experience and a value.

This place is so pretty and well-maintined. The cottage has its own small porch by a little flower garden where you can sit and take coffee in the morning. It was incredibly quiet--such a nice retreat from the city--and the hostess was a delight. I would definitely recommend to anyone coming to the area!

I was a guest at anne's cottage in January of this year. I had a surgical procedure done and needed someplace quiet and private to recuperate for the week after my surgery. I chose anne's based on a friend's recommendation.
I couldn't have been happier. I stayed three days. All meals and snacks were included, so I could help myself to ginger ale, yogurt and jello from the minibar whenever I wanted. As soon as I felt like eating, Anne gave me home-made soups and a delicious egg dish. I could write a review on her cooking alone. It's excellent. She encouraged me to get up and about when I felt like just sitting. All of this helped speed my recovery. She has a fair amount of experience in taking care of people post surgery and it shows.
The grounds are lovely, rural and private. The historic former summer kitchen is charming and well furnished with a fireplace. It's a special place made even nicer by anne's attentive caring style.

Oakland, Ca.Country comfort with elegance and style--and great hosts too!
Left on 04/01/2013 for a stay in February 2013
My wife and I spent two delightful nights this February at The Cottage at Sunnybank when we visited our daughter at U. Va. in Charlottesville. Anne and her husband Jim were wonderful hosts and we are so happy we decided to stay in their restored summer kitchen turned nicely-private cottage rather than at a hotel in town.
With a working fireplace! And a great comfy bed! And snacks!
The cottage, and the farmhouse's environment, complete with outbuildings galore, rolling fields, and a roiling stream, couldn't have been better.
Sunnybank is a mid-19th Century, lovingly-preserved family farm, bucolic as all getout and just off the beaten path, yet only a short and terrifically scenic drive to Charlottesville and the U. Va. campus.
A real cup of coffee and a leisurely stroll through the pasture down to the ford in the river was a great way to start each day at Sunnybank. We left knowing that we would be back next visit to Charlottesville.Response from Anne Novak - 06/06/2013

We stopped through during a business trip on way back to Philly. It is extraordinarily peaceful at Sunny Bank. My " to do list" got shelved after the 1st night, the serenity over took me . Wonderful place, simple, clean, out in the country, yet 15 minutes leisurely drive to Charlottesville. Snowed the 24th -wonderful! The 90% full moon made the visit magical, even better the whole house generator kicked on and we never missed a beat. Btw not only is anne is a stunning cook she had great advice on local restaurants. We're planning another visit when we can hike and enjoy the wonderful surroundings and the swimming pool.
