Light, airy and spacious accommodation for up to six people and a superb location make this elegant barn conversion an ideal destination for a family holiday. This semi detached barn conversion located on the edge of Charminster village is under two miles from the historic town of Dorchester. This cottage is adjacent to a smallholding with breeding hens, goats, rheas and Christmas trees, and very close by is a free range chicken farm, plus eggs are available to purchase on site. Decorated and furnished to a very high standard, this property boasts a stylist mix of period features and modern amenities such as original beams and three en-suite... bedrooms. This well-equipped cottage is set in an excellent position and makes an ideal base from which to explore Dorset and Wessex. There are a number of local footpaths to discover whilst the village itself is perfectly positioned for taking advantage of the superb surrounding countryside and walks.

Amenities: Oil central heating. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, 42” plasma screen TV with full cinema surround sound, FreeSat and DVD player. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels (not tea towels) inc. in rent. Travel cot, highchair and baby bath available. Off road parking for 3 cars. Private side patio area with furniture, leading via steps to private lawned garden and shed (must bring own padlock), and communal front gravelled area with benches. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop 10 mins walk, pub 1 mile.

Region: Explore the fossils and stunning beaches of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, visit historic Sherborne and Shaftesbury, or enjoy the footpaths, country lanes and thatched-roof pubs Dorset offers.

Town: Set in the valley of the River Cerne, the scattered community of Charminster is surrounded by glorious, unspoiled countryside and is served by a shop and pub – though for more specialist amenities the town of Dorchester is just a mile and a half away. Packed with Roman roads, museums and a wide selection of pubs and restaurants, Dorchester is well worth visiting. Other local attractions include Maiden Castle, the largest hill fort in England, and visit the County Museum, which has a room devoted to Thomas Hardy, the author of 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles’, born just two miles away in Bockhampton. Winter Short Breaks (WSB) are available at many properties in the "Winter" period - subject to availability. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. Off Season Breaks (OSB) are available at many properties in parts of the "Low" and "Mid" periods - subject to availability. The price for a 3 night break is either 75% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. OSBs can be booked within a calendar month of the start date of the holiday. "Last Minute Breaks" (LMB) are available at most properties throughout the "LOW", "MID", "HIGH", "PEAK", "XMAS" and "NEW YEAR" periods. The price for a 3 night break is either 65% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. LMBs can be booked within one week of the start date of the holiday.

  The house is well decorated and catered for all the family with the benefits of ensuites to all the bedrooms which was a great bonus for us as we had our toddler who could use the bath, as well as showers for my parents. Our son loved the animals which were close by. The only downside was the garden was too steep for us to fully utilise. We used the patio and the bottom part of the grassy area for kicking our ball around. The garden would be ok for older children. Overall we had a great stay and would return to this property.

  Shire cottage was everything we could have wished for,clean well equipped and furnished to a very high standard.The property is situated in a very quiet location and only a short distance by car to supermarket and local town and 20 mins to Weymouth.We stayed over the Christmas period and the property was warm, ideal for a family holiday any time of the year.The only problem we had was upstairs shower ran cold problem with mixer valve but that could be fixed, and the large bath up stairs used all the hot water to only partly fill

  Cottage had the Wow factor, and everything furnishings, kitchen equipment was to a high standard. Decor was superb, with additional little touches. Ideally suited for golf, sight seeing, and local Pub l mile away, and Dorchester
  1 1/2 miles away, with lots of historial places nearby. Only time we have not wanted to come home

  Luxury in the countryside for the whole family

  Fantastic cottage with a lovely garden. Decorated and furnished to a very high standard. We stayed for a week with my parents and our two kids (aged 5 & 7) and the accommodation worked really well.
  Good garden for the kids to play and nice patio for eating outside. 5* experience.
