Chelmarsh is a quiet and picturesque village with some lovely walks to the nearby brook and reservoir. New House was originally built in the 15th Century, as part of the wing of a country house. It has been sympathetically restored to retain many of its original features, such as oak trusses, wall timbers and exposed beams throughout. All the accommodation is spread out over one level and, with 2 bedrooms, it offers enough accommodation for groups of up to 4 people. From the large garden at the rear, you can soak up the scenery or enjoy a glass of wine during the summer evenings and watch as a steam train from the Severn Valley railway goes... by. Fishermen will appreciate the opportunity to fish in the nearby Severn and there is ample opportunity for walking, cycling and horse riding.

Amenities: LPG central heating with electric heaters. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge (no ice box), dishwasher, use of washing machine by arrangement, TV, DVD. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 2 cars. Lockable bike storage. Lawned garden with patio, garden furniture and BBQ. One well-behaved dog welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop 4 miles, pub 1 mile. Note: The property is accessed via 14 external steps to front door and 12 internal steps to living area. As such, property may be unsuitable for the less mobile. Note: This owner requires a refundable bond of £20 for guests bringing a dog with them.

Region: A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Town: The reservoir was built in the early 1960s and provides the home for both a sailing club and a Shropshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve. Owned by South Staffordshire Water, it has become a haven for winter waterfowl. The River Severn is approximately two miles from the nature reserve, where you can enjoy canoe trips, fishing or a refreshing walk. There are walking trails from the river to Hampton Loade – where there is a famous ‘foot-ferry’ crossing – or continue on to Bridgnorth, Highley or Bewdley. Other attractions in the area include Ironbridge, Ludlow, Much Wenlock, the Severn Valley Steam Railway, the West Midlands Safari Park and the RAF Cosford Museum.Read more

OSBs can be booked within a calendar month of the start date of the holiday. "Last Minute Breaks" (LMB) are available at most properties throughout the "LOW", "MID", "HIGH", "PEAK", "XMAS" and "NEW YEAR" periods.   The appartment is perched high up above the river Severn and the Severn Valley Railway - you get views of the railway from both sides of the flat, and we never tired of running from one window to another crying "there's a train coming!" (you have to bear in mind that we are a couple in our 50's, not small children!). Pet friendly (though our middle aged dog was not wild about the open tread staircase outside). Very welcoming landlord downstairs. Well equipped, well furnished. The only extra I would have liked would have been some proper local guidebooks & walk books rather than stacks of out of date tourist leaflets. Well placed for touring Shropshire and the surrounding area, with good facilities available just down the road in Bridgnorth. I already have recommended it to others, and would happily return myself.
