A stunning Tudor (1500's) house set in 2 acres of it's own land, with spectacular views or the beautiful countryside all around. The countryside is a patchword of hedgerow, small fields and woodland, there are many beautiful walks around this area, as well as activities such as horse riding, pheasant shooting (fall and winter only) and many opportunities for mountain biking. The house enjoys wide sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

EdinburghPeace and quiet with great views
Left on 05/04/2012 for a stay in April 2012
A warm welcome awaited us on arrival with the table set for afternoon tea. Returning back to the area I grew-up in, I was reminded how beautiful the area was. The house is full of character with spiral staircases leading to the top floor and three wood-burning stoves downstairs. There was plenty of information provided for local walks to make the most of the Slad Valley. Trillgate is ideal for those looking for a romantic getaway and as a base to enjoy the five valleys surrounding Stroud.

The house is absolutely beautiful, set in an equally beautiful location.
The accommodation was comfortable and welcoming, and we all had a lovely stay. The local pub (The Woolpack) serves great food and beers, and is just the right distance to walk off dinner on the way back home! We would definitely recommend Trillgate!Response from caitlin lodge - 03/12/2012

Trillgate is so full of character, it is a marvellously different place to stay. The location is stunning and the walks around about are lovely. It is very cosy with the fires on, but imagine it would also be wonderful in the summer with all the trees and large garden. Will definitely try to stay again.

ThameBirthday weekend in the Slad Valley
Left on 02/05/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We had the most delightful stay at Trillgate for two nights in January 2012.
The cottage was substantial, and more than comfortable for 8 adults. It is well equipped, even though we seemed to bring half of our own kitchen! There is plenty of space for food and drink!
We only managed to make good use of the kitchen and large sitting room, however, for those seeking a little peace away from other guests, there is another very comfortable sitting room.
All downstairs rooms benefit from excellent wood burners which if you manage well, keep the temperature of the house at levels I would not allow in my own home!
The bedrooms are all charming with their own unique shapes and sizes. There are two upstairs bathrooms, both of which are brand new. It is a big plus to find well maintained bathrooms in rental cottages!
We explored the nearby valleys and I am sure if one stayed longer, we could have found a number of very good walks- all detailed in the welcome pack.
The other piece of key advice when visiting Trillgate is that the nearby pub, the Woolpack, is second to none. True Cotwold charm. Good beer, food, and a good balance between visitors and locals- reflected in the reasonable prices.
Overall a wonderful stay in a charming and idyllic cottage. We would love to return again soon.
Thanks very much Caitlin. -

My family had the pleasure of staying in this idyllic house. We all loved the house itself and the setting is truly amazing! Cotswolds on your doorstep. Trillgate has been updated very tastefully though still retained original features and has a lovely homely feel. The owner is very attentive and helpful personally welcoming us and offering informative advice on the area. We will definitely return in the summer!

Trillgate is a remarkable place in a wide open beautiful setting with wonderful views and a nice and pleasant place to stay. I would recommend this place to anyone seeking peace and tranquility but still within easy access to the surrounding cotswolds.
Easy access to Cheltenham, Cirencester and Bourton on the water.
The owner was pleasant and helpful and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. -

This is a beautiful cottage in a wonderful setting. The view from the garden is spectacular. The house is very old and characterful whilst still having two modern bathrooms. I would have given 5 stars for service if the kitchen appliances were less rustic.
The owner was extremely helpful and very considerate, ensuring we enjoyed our stay by combining being around to help if needed whilst also being discreetly absent. -

Left on 01/16/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We had a wonderful relaxing week long stay at this beautiful property in December 2011 but our experience with the owner post check out has left a sour taste in the mouth.
I booked this cottage for my wifes 30th birthday and stayed with our 9 month old son, 6 yr old dog and other family members.
I found details of this cottage on the Owners Direct website and contacted Caitlin direct in order to book. She was very helpful but expressed surprise when I told her how much a weeks stay in December was priced at on this site. She said it was an out of date quote but agreed to honour the price.
On the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property for families or groups (not necessarily for the elderly as the staircases are quite quirky) but would definitely have reservations about re-booking ourselves.
Firstly, as you have to expect with an old, stone property like this, it is naturally a cold house. We did have to pay £50 extra for a weeks supply of wood, which turned out to be vital at this time of year as we had to have 2 of the 3 woodburners active almost the whole week as the central heating only came on for around 5 hours a day and we wern't allowed access to the controls which are kept under lock and key. Caitlin did say that she would increase time which the heating came on but struggled to operate the system herself and also said that, due to the soaring costs of fuel, she'd rather her guests put on a jumper if they get cold.
Sound advice but when you've already paid over £600 for a weeks stay and have a 9 month old child in your party, ideally you want to be in control of the temperature.
Secondly, the property is advertised as a pet friendly cottage, but as a result of so many dogs having stayed there in the past there is a scent of pet throught the downstairs.
Our 6 yr old King Charles spaniel, usually a very well behaved dog, did urinate a few times in the stone floored entrance hallway in an attempt to mark his own scent over those that already existed. We always cleaned up after our dog, and made special efforts throughout the rest of our stay to limit his exposure to this area of the house.
We also cleaned the floor on the morning of our departure but were amazed to hear that Caitlin had decided to keep our £100 security deposit for reasons that still remain completely unsubstantiated.
She tried to hold us totally accountable for the scent in the cottage and made personal accusations to the hygiene standards of my family.
She also accused us of causing damage to a piece of furniture that holds a great amount of sentimental value to her despite the fact that we rarely ever used the room in which the furniture was kept.
My biggest regret is not insisting that Caitlin accompany us around the whole cottage on checkout. When I returned our keys to her and asked her if she wanted to come and check the house before we left, I was told that she was too busy at that particular time and would have to check later but would return our deposit within 2 weeks. This never happened.
It is now my belief that she never intended to return my deposit but instead banked on it to allow for the fact that she hadn't updated her price listed on the Owners Direct website.
I find it such a shame that I now have to leave an indifferent review of this property as we did enjoy our stay. Caitlin writes on the Owners Direct website that she grew up in this property and this is both a big positive and negative to how effectively she runs this cottage for short term rental.
It does have a lovely homely feel that can only be created by someone that truely loves it as a home. But conversely she is far too attached to it to allow guests to be able to treat it as their home for the duration of their stay.
So, in summary I do recommend a stay in this cottage but be prepared and take plenty of warm clothes (for a stay during winter months) and insist on a thorough checkout. -

AberaeronPeaceful and tranquil setting
Left on 04/26/2011 for a stay in April 2011
The situation and the quirkiness of this house is its best feature, almost transporting you back in time as Laurie Lee's Rosie. It has spectacularly beautiful views looking down the Slad Valley with only the sounds of sheep and birds to hear. Together with its spiral stone staircase and log fires it is one big experience to remember. We would go there again even in winter.
