Bridgend, United KingdomSuperb little Cottage
Left on 03/15/2013 for a stay in March 2013
My wife and I have just returned from a 3 night midweek break at the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location is brilliant and the views stunning. We had the dogs with us and found the owner Helen to be very accomodating. Her suggested walks were terrific as was her recommended choice of restaurants. We hire a cottage at least once a year and this is up there with the best and I have no doubt we will return.

Left on 02/24/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We would not recommend this cottage/garden for people with dogs or young children in it’s present form.
Garden not secure – dogs can get out onto road and across road into field full of sheep!
Garden has loose chickens in!!
No security lighting in garden, cream carpets in cottage.

Left on 01/05/2013 for a stay in December 2012
This was our honeymoon holiday and first time in Wales. We were impressed with the lovely countryside in a quiet area surrounded by nature. We enjoyed the sheep, cows and hen every morning.
Though a couple of days were rainy we still enjoyed the cosy warm cottage. It is central heated, equipped as a self catering cottage should be. Some traditional pubs and restaurants are within 2 minutes drive.
Helen, the owner is very friendly and always helpful with suggestions which made our stay a memorable one. -

Left on 12/16/2012 for a stay in December 2012
It really was a wonderful few days for us at Helen's lovely cottage. Surrounded by stunning countryside, sheep in the far field and cows that come & say hello, not to mention the clucking Hens chilling out in the large front garden. We went in early December, so the wood burner was perfect to come back to. Loved our walk down the country lane to the cute local pub (had the rabbit, lovely) lit only by he stars (& our torch).
The cottage is lovely, surprisingly big, nice kitchen, cosy living room with the burner, good bathroom & a really nice main bedroom. Will be great to see the second, more modern cottage ready - looking cozy do far!
And last but so not least, Helen, who is awesome. A great host with great and useful knowledge of the local area & the best places to go. -

Helen has put somuch information about where to walk, eat, visit that there is somuch to choose from. We wentfor a relaxing break andit certainly was that- peace and quiet but near enough to everything that you don't have to travel miles and miles to get anywhere. I would thoroghly recommend this cottage and will definately be going back.

Left on 09/04/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We arrived early evening to the cottage, having no problems following Helen's direction to a very warm and friendly greeting. The information in the cottage of what to see, where to go was fantastic all accompanied with photographs - we spent the week exploring a lot of the sites listed.
The cottage itself is a "home away from home", just so quiet, comfortable and tastefully furnished, set in the most amazing gardens.
The location is so convenient - Chepstowe, where we did most of our supplies shopping is approx 4 miles and has everything you could possibly need. We ran out of time to visit all the historical and scenic sites in the surrounding area, but what we did manage gave us such a wonderful taste of Wales, its beautiful scenery and its history.
We would and have already recommended Monmouthsire Cottage to our friends and thank Helen for making our stay just so wonderful. -

N DevonA wonderful holiday
Left on 05/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We had a wonderful stay, the cottage was the most comfortable that we have ever stayed in with lots of nice touches to make a real difference; you can tell that the owner really cares that you have an enjoyable stay. The garden was a real feature, great for children to play in or your dog to enjoy and this with wonderful views on all sides made a most relaxing stay. Helen provides so much information on things to do, walks and local knowledge that we found some great places that you would not have been able to find if left to your own devices. The cottage is just out of the village and within easy reach of several towns so an ideal combination of an "away from it all" feel but close enough to amenities if needed. A weeks holiday was simply not enough time and there were still things on our "to-do" list so the only option is to stay again!

Left on 05/23/2011 for a stay in May 2011
On arrival we were greeted by Helen with a big hug. She showed us around the cottage and explained where everything was and how things worked, There are also numerous leaflets and booklets of places to visit and Helen has made a list of walks, dog friendly pubs etc. and is always ready to give any help and advice.
Our three Border Collies were greeted by Sam, Helen's dog, and they got on well together.
The accomodation was excellent, the kitchen clean and with everything needed for a self catering holiday. The lounge was comfortable with many 'goodies' to look at, a large flat screen TV for when the weather is bad.
Upstairs we found the bathroom to be clean and tidy with a bath with shower overhead.
The main bedroom, is large with a very comfortable bed and ample space for keeping all your clothes, very clean with bed made ready to fall into after a long day out and about.
The second bedroom, also quite large was unused by us but again bed made ready and ample space for clothing etc.
Outside is a large patio with a path, to the left or 3 steps down to the ornamental part of the garden, beyound which is a large grassed area to excersise your dogs, all enclosed and very safe. At the far end is a trampoline for those with children.
To the rear are views over the countryside with bullocks visiting in the morning. To the front are views over fields where sheep roamed.
Parking is just a few yards from the main entrance.
There are so many things to do, for ramblers, cyclists and, in our case, visiting the many Castles in the area.
For those with a Blue Badge the Severn Crossing toll bridges is free, just show your Blue Badge. The car parks we used showed 'Blue badge holders free in any space. If you happen to be a member of English Heritage for more than one year entrance to the Cadw sites is free.
If you are using a Sat Nav enter 51.657684, -2.752208 to arrive at the entrance.
In brief Wonderful, Perfect, ideal with or without pets. -

What a week! The sun shone, the garden was beautiful and the cottage had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay.
Monmouthshire Cottage is set in a quiet countryside location, a few hundred yards down the hill from the small village of Itton, so apart from the occasional car passing by, there is a very little noise to spoil the tranquility.
I slept particularly well in a very comfortable bed, and my batteries were fully recharged by the end of the week at Monmouthshire Cottage.
I was particulary impressed about how nice Monmouthshire and the Wye Valley are, and we went on quite a number of walks detailed in the 'Walks in the Lower Wye Valley' booklet.
I discovered that Chepstow is a pleasantly attractive and unspoilt town with a castle, the Wye river passing through and several restaurants and pubs/cafes that we visited.
I also really enjoyed a pint (or two) of Old Rosie cider and an appetising meal at the Carpenters arms down the road at Mynyddbach / Shirenewton.
Helen was friendly, welcoming, and offered any help should it be needed during our stay. The cottage was spotless on arrival.
There is a wealth of information (leaflets, booklets, maps) provided in the cottage, which helped us enjoy our time in the area.

Our friendly and ever-helpful host, Helen, was there to meet us on arrival and gave us a tour of the cottage and grounds. The rural location is great for walkers and/or those who just like to relax. The views are spectacular, especially from the bedrooms upstairs where to wake to such views every morning was just lovely. It is in a quiet area with much natural beauty and at such good rates my family and myself cannot wait to stay again!!! I would strongly recommend a vacation in this cottage to anyone, we had an excellent stay.

Helen's cottage is an absolute delight - a perfect home from home. We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Monmouthshire Cottage and that was largely a result of the beautiful cottage we found ourself in and due to Helen's kindness, warmth and generosity. Helen made us feel very welcome in her cottage which is situated in a area of stunning beauty and close by to some great walks, pretty villages and larger towns. We would have loved to spend more time at the house as it was so relaxing and comfortable with everything all of us need. Me, husband, grandad and kids were all very much at home. We spent most of our weekend involved in a family wedding but the cottage was a very welcome retreat - Helen even gave us a lift to the wedding which was very kind and generous. I've already recommended the cottage to family and my mum, who had to come by for a nose, has booked it already! You can be sure of a warm welcome, a comfortable stay and a complete refresh at this beautifully presented and immaculately clean cottage.

Fantastic holiday rental. We stayed with our two children ( 16 and 20) who flew in from Spain and Saudi arabia so we could all have a family get together. Couldn't have asked for more from the house, the location and our host. Wonderful welcome, coffee, milk, fire wood and a stunning cosy family house. Great thought has gone into the decor and the standard is very high right down to the Waitrose coffee! Within an hour in any direction are wonderful sights and beautiful walks right from the front door. Can't wait to go back to build some more family memories. Wonderful all round. Highly recommended.

Left on 11/03/2010 for a stay in September 2010
The photographs on Helen's website show the cottage and the grounds very nicely but they can't show the feeling the Monmouthshire Cottage and gardens have. Quaint is applicable but doesn't quite get it because the stone walls of the cottage are two feet thick giving each window the feeling of a window seat and the whole structure a presence and substance that quaint doesn't typically evoke. Everything inside the cottages five rooms is clean and fresh as well as being homey and comfortable. The kitchen has most everything you could possibly need including a view out into the English Garden that sits below the cottages outdoor patio. The two bedrooms have views out over a lovely valley with pastures, hedgerows and the rolling hillsides of the area and...quality comfortable beds as well.
The location is quiet, serene and removed and the five to ten minute drive from Chepstow wanders through the same beautiful rolling hill landscape that the Cottage nestles into.
We couldn't have been happier with our stay and Helen's suggestions for hikes and scenery in the area were spot on for our interests and tastes.
Wish we could go back tomorrow... -

Monmouthshire Cottage is the perfect place if you are looking for a quiet hideaway where you can relax, unwind and recharge your batteries. It is also an ideal base for exploring the Wye Valley and beyond. The fact that dogs are so welcome is an added bonus and there are fantastic walks right from the doorstep.
The cottage and the gardens are beautiful and the views from the windows are amazing. The cottage is equipped with everything you could wish for and more besides! Helen is was a wonderful host - very welcoming and a fountain of local knowledge, be it local attractions, walks or good places to eat. We were only there for a weekend, and it wasn't long enough. St AustellBest holiday home ever !
Left on 10/13/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We've rented holiday homes all over the UK and Ireland but this one really stands out. The cottage is cosy, comfortable, immaculately maintained and equipped with everything a holidaymaker could reasonably want and more. The garden is like something belonging to the National Trust and it was a joy to sit in it on a sunny day surrounded by colourful herbaceous borders and rolling Welsh hills. There's free on-site parking for two cars and loads of outdoor space for kids to play safely - things that aren't always available with a holiday home. The location on the southern end of the Welsh/English border means that all sorts of attractions are within easy travelling distance or there's loads of great walks from the cottage itself if you want a break from driving. Helen the friendly, helpful owner who lives across the courtyard is a mad keen walker and a mine of information about Monmouthshire and neighbouring counties. At her suggestion we visited some places that would never have occurred to us e.g. the historic settlements of Trellech and Usk. If you're not already keen to explore South Wales then you will be after half an hours chat with Helen. She should be on a retainer from the Wales Tourist Board ! Monmouthshire Cottage is a gem and we've recommended it to all our friends and relatives. Thanks for a brilliant holiday Helen. Just like your swallows we hope to return next year, maybe to see the famous Severn Bore.
