New in '06, fully equpipped kitchen, wetbar, breakfast bar, two coffee makers, 7 TV's with cable, W/D, gas FP, pack-n-play, babygate. Linens available at additional cost.
Enjoy unbelievable sunrises over the bay, beautiful southeast and northeast breezes and lots of wildlife and sealife putting on a show every day!

I can't say enough superlatives about the house. It was everything I had hoped it would be and then some. Everyone had a great time. The views of water were spectacular. The beach was wonderful. The house was spacious and comfortable.
When we first arrived, it was a little difficult to find the access road. But once we found it, there was no problem.

Since my family has outgrown my daughter's home in Richmond for a Christmas stay, I decided to look for a place in the Mathews/Gloucester County areas. I am so glad that I ran across The Sandbar. It was roomy enough for our family of 10 with some beds to spare (we had two in cribs). Although the December weather rolled in just as we did, we managed to make some brief visits to the beautiful beach. The gas fireplace in the living room made for some cozy evenings. My 2-year-old grandson immediately found the playroom and was in truck heaven. We will definitely be looking to stay here again.

The beach house had everything needed for a relaxing and pleasant stay. The beach is shallow and sandy - great for kids. One small thing which the owner should include is WiFi. The cell phone service was spotty so I was only able to get intermittent cell and internet service from both verizon and att.

Thanks for your comments and we hope to accomodate you and your family again. WIFI is not available to us in this area yet or we certainly would have it! Comcast has promised we will have internet/phone service by the end of 2012. Let's hope!

We visited with our 4 grandchildren and their parents and my father-in-law and there was room for everybody. The water is perfect for small (and big) children with some rough waves with wind out of the east and very calm other days. The water was not as clean as I remember from my childhood but as we know summer of 2012 was a strange weather cycle with all the very hot weather.
Cottage was clean, beds comfortable, plenty of room to spread out. Our daughter is wheelchair bound so the lower ground level was perfect for her as was the downstairs bathroom. Easy access to beach for her was also a plus.
Only negative was a problem with the house water stained cloths in washing machine; homeowner responded immediately from email notification with a very pleasant plumber who worked on the machine and repaired the following day once parts arrived. However the problem persisted and I later discovered someone had unplugged the water filtration system (so no fault of the homeowner). We could not have asked for a better experience with homeowner.

My whole family loved this beach house!! It was comfortable, and had everything we needed during our stay. The private beach was the best part!! We spent so much time out on the water enjoying ourselves. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again & again for many years to come. The place is just that great!!

we were a party of 14 with 8 kids under 14 ther was plenty of room and the kids enjoyed the beach every day the house was perfect for us gywnns island was beautiful and relaxing we were able to get to va beach and busch gardens which were not to far away i would recomend this house to everyone

Upon arrival, the house was clean, had plenty of flatware and kitchenware for our 13 person clan. There are many beach accessories as well as toys for little ones. The sunrise is breathtaking and is worth the effort to get up early enough to see it. We saw many wildlife but our favorite were the dolphins that would swim out in the morning and come back in the early evening. The outside shower was wonderful as we had 7 children and it prevented the majority of sand from being tracked in. We loved the house, location, Mr Mueller was a pleasure to do business with, we plan on coming back next year. There is no place to shop on the island, but a short distance away in Mathews there is several antique shops and the General Store downtown Mathews is a great place to stop. The day we stopped there were the 2 most precious older knowledgeable women ever. If you are looking to unwind I highly recommend this piece of paradise!

I can't say enough good things about Sandbar and it's Owner. We were 12 Family members who shared Sandbar for 2 glorious weeks. Enough space to move about, without stepping on each others feet. Sunrises are amazing and unforgettable. Perfect location for a small wedding, which we took advantage of, and Sandbar will have a special meaning for us forever. I also celebrated my 50th Birthday during our stay, so many wonderful Memories for years to come. The covered Porch and Balcony were an additional bonus. Mr. Mueller made us feel at home, he cared for all the little details and needs. The loacation is perfect, Gwynns Island is quiet and tranquil with wonderful People, you feel like you are miles and miles away from the hustle and bustle.However, Mathews Courthouse is just 10 minutes away, for shopping and dinning out. If you enjoy Water, Wildlife, Boating, Fishing, or just enjoying to get away to spend time with loved ones, this is the place to be. The Beach is awesome and clean, perfect for Families, Couples, or Groups of any kind. I could go on and on.. Thank you ...:)

The location was ideal for all our family as it was very similar to where we had vacationed on the Rappahannock River for a number of years. The accomodations were ideal for our family and friends who visited there with us. The location was a very easy travel time for us and some of our famiy that came from the Richmond area. Food stores were just a few minutes away and the folks in the Mathews area were very hospitable. Can't think of any thing we didn't like about the cottage or surroundings. Located on a private road so no through traffic to be bothered with and safe for kids on bicycles. We loved being there and are planning on returning in 2012.

I have been vacationing on Gwynn's Island for as long as I can remember, first staying with family and then owning my own camper at Camper's Haven. This was the first time I experienced staying in someone else's home. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience. The house was much more than adequate - it was large, open and very well-equipped.
The location could not have been better. The beach was right in our front yard and I got up every morning to watch the sun rise out of the Chesapeake Bay - what a glorious sight! When seeing the sunrise at eye level wasn't enough, I could go upstairs and look down at the bay as the sun lit it with fire in what promised to be yet another beautiful day.
We were fortunate enough one morning to share the experience with a blue heron, who posed for several pictures before beginning his day. The others that shared this experience with me caught fish and crab and even spent time watching dolphins at play, and the little ones were able to play in the waves all from our own private beach.
To some, the limited cell phone connectivity might have caused a problem; however, for me it was a blessing, giving me permission to totally relax and enjoy family and the beauty of Gwynn's Island.
If you don't have to be entertained by things, Gwynn's Island is the best place to be, and I would totally recommend the Sandbar.

We recently hosted a family reunion at the Sandbar. The accommodations are comfortable and perfect for a larger group including a lot of outdoor space to gather, relax and enjoy the ocean view. This property has one of the most well-appointed kitchens I have encountered in a rental and we were very pleased overall. I would recommend to future guests to bring kayaks and/or bicycles as Gwynn's Island is a beautiful area to explore.
