Friendly, safe neighborhood location with very friendly, helpful
This was our first visit to Chicago. We stayed for almost two weeks and were very happy with having chosen this great place in such a friendly, safe neighborhood. During the heatwave, storm or flashflood this was a comfortable, relaxing home away from home. All city attractions are within easy reach thanks to Chicago's excellent and cheap transit system (7-day travel card is only about USD 26). From a European perspective, many good eating places were within walking distance, our favourite: Mi Bento Sushi on Irving Park Road. The highlight of our trip was a Cubs game and being able to walk to the game along Waveland ave. (approx. 30 minutes). Of course we could have taken a bus, but just witnessing the build-up of the atmosphere as you get closer to the park is definitely worth the walk. Take the #80 bus right to the Lake Shore or use the 'L' to get anywhere. We had no car available and really did not miss it - but there would have been ample parking in front of the house at most times. The brown line provides the best views of the city while the red line is faster, e.g. to get to a White Sox game (we had to see that ballpark, too, equal opportunity fans).
What we loved most about the apartment was the wood furnishings and floors, comfy double bed, the nice shower head, the fully equipped kitchen (with wine glasses!), the water cooler, shower, laundry facility in the basement, eclectic books, free WiFi, sitting under trees in front of the house in the evenings watching the birds and the squirrel at the bird feeder. During a heat-wave the air-conditioning and ceiling fans are life-savers, too, something I'm normally not that fond of or used to using.
Above all, the true commitment to environmentally friendly living was very impressive, including eco-friendly washing liquid and a good recycling system. There was so much to do, we didn't even get around to watching the TV or play any Dvds or CDs. But I can imagine that these could come in handy as could the toys provided. For two people, the apartment was very spacious and luxurious. I'm so glad we did not stay in a downtown hotel!
Donna is the perfect landlady / host! All the information we were provided with from paying the deposit to arrival was ever so useful and helpful. She really was available 24-7 for any questions. Apart from the professional way of organizing the reservations, she is so friendly, you just have to love her! We really got the impression that her heart is in this and she genuinely likes talking to new people. She has a great heart for animals, too, pets will be most welcome and bird-feeder is always stocked for the cardinals, squirrels or whoever comes first! She works very hard to make everyone feel at home and to accommodate all requests. The website is definitely true to the services provided.
All in all, we felt we had nothing to worry about and had a really relaxing time.

Visiting our kids couldn't have been easier!
Our son and daughter-in-law live in Chicago near Wrigley Field. We wanted a comfortable homey place to stay while awaiting the birth of our second grand child. Writer's Retreat is less than a mile from our kids home and it allows pets, which we bring on our trips. Donna, the manager, was right there making sure all was ready. She was friendly and funny and nice. Made us feel at home. Once we were settled in we weren't 'bothered'. There were treats for our doggies, there was coffee and tea and dishes. Bedding was clean and my hubby loved the big screen TV. We appreciate this site that helps folks find just the right vacation spot! Writer's Retreat will see us again, and again!

Perfectly located, quiet apt. in the middle of everything
Our trip to Chicago was primarily to visit friends (see babies, new houses, etc.). Moreover, we aren't all that interested in the typical "tourist" haunts when we travel and much prefer to stay in a neighborhood over a hotel next to a TGIFridays.
This little apartment was just PERFECT for us! Despite a little snafu with the lockbox, we had no issues at all during our stay. The apartment is across from a school and there was always plenty of parking right in front of the building. The neighborhood is extremely quiet, clean and safe and there are tons of restaurants, bars, and stores to walk to. You can also get to Wicker Park, Lincoln Square or Wrigleyville within 10 minutes from there by car.
The decor is vintage eclectic (which is also our own style at home). Gorgeous wood floors and window frames. Well-equipped kitchen. I will say that the bedrooms, themselves, are a little oddly situated -- the middle bedroom is very tiny and the bed is wedged between the closet and the window. You might not be able to sleep here if you're claustrophobic (I am). The main bedroom (off the living room) has a queen bed and 2 twins. I actually think it would have been a little nicer with only one twin bed in there, since it was a bit cramped with that many beds. That said, we had a very nice sleep in the Queen.
The wireless worked excellently and I was able to use my laptop from any room in the apartment. Since the apartment is on the 1st floor (up a small flight of stairs), loading our suitcases in and out was no issue.
One small suggestion: there was soap on the bathroom sink, but none in the shower. Might suggest leaving some bath gel or something in there.
All in all, we LOVED this little apartment and can't wait to stay there, again. Donna is a wonderful hostess.
Chicago
Great place, especially for families
Clean, friendly, inviting. I rented this for out-of-town guests with a baby. They have a playpen and high chair onsite, so we didn't have to bring any equipment for the baby. Quiet building in a pleasant, quiet neighborhood with plenty of free parking, and easy access to Lakeshore Drive and downtown Chicago. I would happily stay here and host friends and family here again!

Excellent rental experience
The unit was very nice, clean and supplied with everything needed and then some. Donna was extrememly attentive to any needs we had. The parking was plentiful which was a real plus for Chicago! I will definitely be staying again the next time I am in town.
