Fairmont, West VirginiaGreat View-Needs TLC
Left on 04/22/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We stayed here for an extended weekend. The views were fantastic and location was great. We walked to Field Museum and The Bean. No problems with access to the building. The entire condo needs painted and the carpets need replaced. When we arrived there were no hangers, the coffee pot did not work and some bulbs needed replaced in the baths. The owners were very responsive and resolved the issues promptly.

West Lafayette, IndianaSimple apt with stunning views and good location
Left on 03/25/2013 for a stay in March 2013
My husband, myself and our 2 sons hosted my sister-in-law and her son at this building in the south loop of downtown Chicago. We stayed for 3 nights in a 3bedroom, 2.5 bath condo on the 31st floor for 3 nights the week before St. Patrick's Day. The location was very good, not on the north end Michigan ave. but in the Loop or South Loop and definitely within a bus or metro ride to everything downtown.
There were plenty of restaurants, a Starbucks, and at least 3 grocery stores within a 2-block distance. (Trader Joes, Target, a specialty grocery located right next to the front desk on the bottom floor of the building). There was also a Whole Foods within driving distance that had good, free parking.
The building was nice and easy to navigate once we got the hang of it. Parking in the garage was a breeze. We felt that catching the bus was the best way to get around for shopping and siteseeing along Michigan ave, etc.
We made all arrangements about 4 weeks before our stay via email and/or phone and the process was painless, but somewhat slow. We always received a response, but turnaround time was usually 24-36 hours. Keep that in mind when making your reservation.
The condo itself was simple and contemporary. None of the furnishings were luxury, but simple, clean and comfy which was perfect for our purposes while we there. The views and the ambience were awesome, especially in the evening! The kitchen was great, but we didn't use it for cooking. We ordered in or ate out. We did make tea and coffee and used the toaster in the morning. The bathrooms were nice and overall clean. Only one bathroom had a bathtub, but it was a nice size and very clean. There was a huge walk-in closet in the master bedroom. All of the beds were huge and super comfy, the bedding and sheets were clean and nice. I slept great! The apt was so quiet, I never heard a thing while we were inside except an occasional honk or siren from the street below.
There were really only 2 downsides to the condo itself: 1.) all the little maintenance issues (loose drawer handle, broken pink lampshade, carpet stain, dining chair stains) that are easily fixed and make a huge difference in overall comfort for guests. 2.) the toiletries, kitchen utensils, trash bags, towels, etc. bargain basement and well-used. The toiletries weren't a problem at all for us, but I noticed. Don't expect luxury products or even mid-range generic, think rock bottom. I think this is pretty standard, though, even at Residence Inn.
These drawbacks were easily offset by the rest of Chicago, the comfy-ness of the condo, the great conversations we had overlooking the views, and the staff and residents at the building! The staff and everyone we came in contact with were so friendly - it felt like great community and it was awesome to be apart of it for a few days. Most of the residents had dogs and we met lots of them in the elevator, but we never once heard or smelled any pets in the apt. There were also several other families we saw with luggage, so it felt like there was a great mix of residents and vacationers on the property. Very accommodating!! -

60933Much better than a hotel
Left on 06/10/2012 for a stay in May 2012
The views are quite unique and very beautiful. You look from the South to the North with no buildings between you and the North. Some of the Navy Pier visible as well. The apartment is in the Grand Central area of Chicago. The apt is just over 1 block from the train station. The bus stop is right out front. For a family of 5 taking the bus down to the Water Tower or cab was about $10. Bus is 2.25 per adult. If you want to go the aquarium, Field Museum or football game you won't get a better location. The neighborhood restaurants were great for families. There is Scout and another kind of bar and grill restaurant with 2 names on Wabash that were fairly inexpensive and had decent food for everyone. However, I would recommend simply buying some grillable food at the Jewel Osco or Trader Joes one block up (Starbuck's right outside the train station) and having dinner looking at that view! Use the grill at the pool on the 7th floor and enjoy a dinner looking at the skyline. The appliances are a little dated, although we didn't use the stove. There were a lot of black marks on the walls and it had a minimalistic feel to it. Handles were missing on some of the drawers and they try to put in temporary hangers. The bed sizes were more than ample., with all great views as well although i think my wife got bed bug bites on her shoulders. The main bathroom was nice. The response from management was good when we informed them of a back up in the shower they responded fairly quickly. We also had a leak in the dishwasher. Again, this is not overly fancy, but there is that great view. The doorman, Kenny, was so great. he was always upbeat, he knew about the "Shin" room, he played with my 7 year old daughter and was so helpful in so many ways. The pool is a typical bathtub size place that is fine for the youngsters (not deeper than 3'10" (get the pool pass from the doorman for adults from the doorman). There is a workout facility on the 7th floor that is better than most hotels.
Overall, the apartment needed some touchup work. It needs to finish some of the handles on the drawer. the three bathrooms were more than enough for our family. The bed's more than enough for a family of five. Loved how the neighborhood was so much more affordable than the hotels in the Navy Pier, water Tower, river area. Good restaurants, especially with regard to expense. I didn't hear good things about a'Capella. There are probably things I"m overlooking, but that view is incredible. -

Boise, IDFabulous alternative to downtown hotels for conventions
Left on 06/28/2011 for a stay in July 2010
For about the same price as the downtown hotels, you can stay in a beautiful condo with plenty of room to hang out, cook, work, etc, all while avoiding the crazieness of hotel lobbies during conventions.
