Houston, TexasComfy apartment is the perfect base for practicing Slow Tourism
Left on 09/20/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We rented a one-bedroom apartment in this six-apartment building for the entire summer, so we could experience Chicago without exhausting ourselves. Cozy apartment, comfortably furnished, with big-screen TV and secure WiFi. A plus: washer and dryer in the basement that all tenants share. (The closest laundromat is three miles; local dry cleaners also offer wash/fold service.) tiny kitchen -- the only reason we didn't give the place five stars -- but we ate out every dinner, so it didn't matter. Tons of closet space! Parking passes included, but street parking is a challenge. Pay attention to parking signs, as the city tickets profusely! We rented a reasonably priced, covered space with in/out privileges three blocks north.
What to do from this central location? Walk to Lincoln Park, Second City (where SLN comics started), Magnificent Mile, and lots of other areas. Watch out for kamikaze bicycles; riders ignore traffic rules. Catch the Red Line or bus (both are close by) to museums, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, etc. Watch business windows for 8x10 signs hawking street festivals, music events, wine/beer tastings. Food? The apartment is 20 steps off N. Wells, host to multiple restaurants and bars that attract a variety of ages and types. Several eateries offer half-price bottles of wine on Mondays or Tuesdays (one on Thursdays).
John Capesius and his brother Joe are caring landlords. John handles the rentals; Joe does the hands-on work. They are quick to take care of problems (ours were minor).Response from John Capesius - 10/24/2012
