My family and I just returned from a stay at the Spinnaker, just yesterday. We all had such an incredible time! The house is in a great location. It has such character, with all the comforts of home. Clean, tidy and organized. The things you hope for when renting a home. Within the home is a large fireplace which we used every night. Nine of us total, and plenty of room. Modern amenities, comfortable spaces, a view that you will find yourself gazing. I will recommend this house to anyone. Thanks Pat!

My husband and I stayed at the Spinnaker with my adult daughter and her husband for a few days over the Thanksgiving holiday and were delighted with the peace and natural beauty of the house and area. While most of Chincoteague is considered quaint in its rustic charm, Spinnaker is a modern, comfortable residence that allows visitors to experience the beauty of the area without sacrificing quality. The unusual layout of the house allows family members enough places to escape, while the central "great room" is large and comfortable enough to accomodate larger family games or movie watching. Beds, pillows, couches, blankets all were spotless and comfy. The kitchen, while small, was large enough and fully equiped so we could prepare a full Thanksgiving meal, and the lovely dining area let us feel like we were in the middle of nature while we ate. The multiple porches and outdoor living areas allowed us to follow the warm winter sun all day without being windblown. The multiple levels of living areas, inside and out really made us feel like we could each spread out in our own "space" without crowding other family members. The TV/cable/dvd set-up - very important for after dinner football watching - was super easy to use, even for the elderly among our group. This house would be a great place for larger families or groups who don't like to be crowded into a conventional home and want to feel the beauty of nature that Chincoteague provides.

Nothing was lacking in the kitchen to prepare our feast and clean up was complete in no time with an excellent dishwasher and deep sink. We were lucky to have great weather so we could relax on both spacious decks and just enjoy the outdoors. Plenty of comfortable beds and no shortage of sumptuous bathrooms and living and dining space. It was wonderful!

AlsipPerfect Family Thanksgiving on Chincoteague Island Va!
Left on 11/26/2012 for a stay in November 2011
My husband and I had several romantic days to enjoy Spinnaker Waterfront ourselves before our family arrived for a our traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
The fireplace was great and the views were spectacular. We enjoyed walking at biking the beautiful natural beach and trails on assateague Island and seeing the famous wild Chincoteague Ponies up close was a real treat.
Even if you're not a Twitcher, the birding over Thanksgiving was fabulous -- this week is the popular WaterFowl Week and the snow geese were in as well as osprey and herons and so many other birds that I can't remember.
The house had everything we needed to cook our Thanksgiving feast, and seated our family comfortably in the dining room. We even enjoyed our morning coffee on the relaxing screened porch most mornings, except one morning we decided to catch the sunrise over assateague from the private balcony on the loft and it was worth getting up early for it!
The great room was the place we kept migrating to -- it had 3 really comfy chars and two large sofas, plus great water views in several directions and even a real porthole. The fireplace (thank you for the firewood -- that was a very nice touch) made it even nicer to sit around and reminisce.
The house was clean and well cared for with many extra things that were not expected in a rental, but were greatly appreciated.
Pat was great to deal with, made reserving a breeze, and answered all our questions and offered great tips which made our trip even more enjoyable.
The house was perfect for our whole family and the grand children enjoyed crabbing from the private dock so much that they voted to come back next year. This house is really perfect for all seasons--it will be difficult to choose! We will plan to do some kayaking the next time we visit.
We'll be back! -

My husband and I rented the Spinnaker to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We could not have been happier. The home was lovely with spectacular water views from the many windows and decks. We were initially concerned that the home would be too big for the two of us; however, we felt that the layout accommodated two people extremely well. The lower deck was amazing for relaxing in the adirondack chairs and a romantic candlelight waterfront dinner under beautiful evening stars. The master suite bathroom with a shower for two and romantic two person jacuzzi was luxurious--just like in your own private resort. The hardest decision was where to enjoy our morning coffee--from the balcony watching the sunrise over assateague or the screened in porch. Usually the sun deck won out. Spinnaker is very well located in a quiet private community surrounded by lots of pine trees and a short ride to the beach, restaurants, shops and a delicious homemade ice cream parlor. The owners were a delight to deal with and provided lots of information on local activities. This home is perfect for a romantic getaway--as the saying goes, "Virginia is for Lovers." We hope to come back next time with our canoe!

Four couples, life long friends, wanted to share a get-away rental while we were in town. We found "Spinnaker" on line and were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness, size and location.
The owners website: www.ponyisland.com had a wonderful description and lots of good pictures of the home. Each couple had their own bedroom with comfortable beds and bath with plenty of privacy. The water views were outstanding from most areas of the house. There were numerous places to sit, relax and visit while watching the waterways and the most difficult decision was where to have our next meal or cocktail hour. The dining room and large screened in porch are divided by a well supplied kitchen with pass thrus that make setting and cleaning up easy. We were fortunate to have "fall moon" add to our atmosphere. The owners were so concerned with our comfort and ease in renting this property.

Butler, PAWonderful fall stay at Spinnaker
Left on 09/28/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We recently returned from a wonderful one week stay at Spinnaker. The home had everything we could possibly need: a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of space to stretch out, and an equally enjoyable outside area to sit and watch the wildlife. The location was great. It sets on a very quiet canal but only a short distance from the bay so the views were incredible from both inside and outside. The website they have with updated pictures provided an accurate portrayal of what to expect: a clean comfortable, well maintained home. We especially liked the screened porch. Mosquitoes can be a major issue on Chincoteague, even in late September, and the porch allowed us to enjoy our morning coffee as well as dinner and wine without any insects. Bicycles are a must on the island. The locked storage area was perfect to store our bikes when we weren't using them. The private dock on the canal made it easy to get our kayak in and out of the water. It was obvious that the Hutchings wanted our stay to be one to remember - and it was. Thank you.

This is no ordinary rental property. This is a home. If you are looking for some blissful peace, you have found it! The only noise I heard the whole week was the geese that visited briefly. Sitting on the deck, you have an unobstructed view of the sunrise. There is also a screened in dining area and two balconies off two of the bedrooms. The bathrooms are large and the showers are separate from the bathtubs. The house is clean and beautiful. It is only a short drive to assateague Island. I highly recommend the Spinnaker to anyone wanting a quiet getaway.

I rented Spinnaker for two weeks in the beginning of august for my family reunion of eight. I highly recommend staying there. The house was very comfortable with two new bathroom additions and a beautiful
new deck on the waters edge. My family and I enjoyed relaxing on the porch, swimming in the canal and just soaking up the peace and quiet. I was impressed by how friendly the locals were even though it was the end of summer and you would think they would have tired of tourist. I also highly recommend Gary Howard's seafood shop, it's a ten minute walk from Spinnaker and has excellent seafood. For kyaking and a boat tour assateague Explorer was great. The owners of Spinnaker go out of their way to make sure your stay is wonderful, and so does Mrs.B the housekeeper. The only negative would be vacations go by too fast. -

Left on 11/04/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Spinnaker House. The location was ideal - near the end of a channel into Oyster Bay. In the fall, it was quiet and secluded - exactly what we were looking for. The views were wonderful, especially of the sunrise. Crabbing off the dock was fun. The porch was one of my favorite sitting spots during warm afternoons. We just love having our own space and feeling almost like a local ourselves. We were only a few minutes from town.
I'd love to see the decor updated, and spots inside, not as noticable as obvious things, spruced up a little. Online reservations and confirmations were not as user friendly as they could be, but we were treated to some supplies in exchange for some problems with the "red tape." -

The Hutchings understand what makes a beach vacation special--the easy, breezy, salty, sunny comfort of it all--and Spinnaker makes it easy. A beautiful, spacious, light-filled home, thoughtfully appointed and maintained. If you need it, you'll find it on hand at Spinnaker--from crab traps to boogie boards to a perfect margarita blender. Breakfast in the sunny kitchen, spend the day in the sun and surf of assateague, then head back to enjoy a cocktail and sunset as you look out over the water from the deck. Thoughtful owners who do all they can so you can just enjoy your vacation. Is this our 6th season with them?

Delmar, MDThe best rental on Chincoteague Island
Left on 06/22/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We stayed at the Spinnaker Waterfront Vacation Home in Chincoteague, Va from June 11th trough June 18th - me, my wife, my mother, brother and my three great nephews. We were only an hour and fifteen minutes away from home but being in this home on the island was like being in another world. We were comfortable the place is spacious and the views from the windows decks and porch are amazing.
There's a dock out front where we went swimming, rafting, fishing and crabbing from and with my three nephews, who are always looking for something to do, they had no problem with exploring the waters edge netting little shrimp and other critters. Now of course they want to go back! We caught a half bushel of crabs and some oysters the first day we stayed and cooked up an absolute seafood feast in the fully equipped kitchen. So I would say if you want a best location on Chincoteague Island, the Spinnaker Waterfront Home is by far the best.

The beach is a few minutes from town; which we all took advantage of each day. Loved seeing the wild ponies, sunning, swimming in the ocean, eating fresh local sea food and great ice cream. Spinnaker House is a great place for families and groups of friends to kick back and relax.

Left on 06/20/2011 for a stay in May 2011
We stayed at Spinnaker with extended family in May and were fairly comfortable. There was myself, my nearly 2 yr old, my sister and her husband, and our Dad. Thank goodness my husband couldn't come because there would have been no where to put him! There's one master bedroom, and the 2 others are tiny (like room for the bed only). I had trouble getting dressed in my room because of the lack of space. The loft was OK, but up a steep spiral staircase so if you like midnight bathroom runs it isn't for you. The living room was large and comfortable, with nice views. The kitchen is a galley kitchen, so only room for max 2 people- mealtime was a bit hectic and crammed. I would recommend this house for people with older children who will be spending most of their time at the beach. I spent alot of time chasing our son up or down the stairs. Also, it was a bit dusty but the bathrooms and kitchen were very clean. The location is good, close to the town. Bring bug repellent if you come, lots of mosquitoes in Chincoteague!

Because vacations are so special and too few over a lifetime, to help prospective guests with the selection process for choosing a suitable rental, we provide a youtube video, Calendar of Events, and map in addition to lots of photos and information. Our ponyisland.com site has a great floor plan where one can click for additional photos or video tour of each room or deck. And we're always glad to answer any questions.
Sometimes guests are so excited about the house that they overlook details important for their enjoyment. Staying in a 4-level home with a 2 year old might be more enjoyable with a baby gate. Guests enjoy the additional privacy provided by having the 4 small bedrooms spread over 3 levels, but only 3 of them are adjacent to our full bathrooms, so choosing a bedroom with private deck overlook Assateaugue Island in the distance might not be be best choice if you want to be next to a bathroom.
We advertise our galley kitchen with pass throughs to both the dining room and the screened-in porch. If we had a spiral staircase, we would have provided a photo of it. (it's carpeted with a few of the top steps angled). To emphasize that our bedrooms are small, we even refer to them as 'staterooms' as on a ship. We have someone who lives on the island who is on call should guests need anything.
The comment that she 'did not know where she would have put her husband had he come' is puzzling. Spinnaker's great room has 3 easy chairs and 2 sofa's, and the dining room has 4 captains and 4 mates chairs (and 2 ladderbacks that can be brought in) so there was plenty of seating and the 4 bedrooms sleep 9 (not counting the sleep sofa in the great room) and there were only 4 adults and a child. There's a King in the master bedroom, a queen and a twin on the loft, a queen in one stateroom and two twins in the other. -

We had an amazing time at our stay in the Spinaker. The house is so beautful with views from all angles. The set up of the rooms was perfect for our family. The kids really enjoyed sleeping in the loft with their own private porch and we enjoyed our room on the floor below with its' private porch. We biked daily to asseteague, kayaked and spent time listening to wildlife on the porches from the spinaker. My daughter (7) cried when we had to leave. She asked can we please come back to this house. My anwer?? Absolutely!!

We had a great time at the Spinnaker. We were delighted by the flowers and welcome note upon our arrival and we felt at home immediately. The house has a most pleasant atmosphere. We loved the marshlands (rented bicycles a couple of times), went for a tour through the bay in a rented boat all the way upto the house and enjoyed our daily swim in the Ocean (at the Assateague National Park). We had not realised that we could not swim close to the house, which we would have liked, but for the rest we loved our stay at Chincoteague.

It was so great, like a home away from home. There were crab traps outside on the dock, we loved catching them! I wish it was closer to the beach, but Chincoteague is very small and quaint and the drive to the beach wasn't too bad. If you are looking for a beautiful & relaxing family trip, this would be a great place to stay. It's a pretty big house, I'd say the more the merrier! Dishes, cocktail cups, blender, etc already there, would be great for a group of people but was also awesome for just my husband and I, relaxing in different parts of the house. We plan on returning hopefully sometime soon!

My family stays at Spinnaker every May--we celebrate my husband's birthday! This year, as every other year, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it seems it is never long enough! I would highly recommend this rental--especially if you want plenty of space for your guests to be comfortable even on a rainy, stay-inside day (even those days at Spinnaker in Chincoteague are wonderful!) We have three teenage/young adult children (college students)--this is the only vacation location where everyone is happy and agrees that it is the best.

We took our young daughters here for a long weekend in the off season (early March). We had a freak snowstorm during our stay, but with a wood-burning fireplace at the rental house and plenty of seasoned wood on-site, the weather only added to the experience. The house is very cute -- right on the water in a quiet neighborhood... it has a lovely, bright dining room with windows on three sides, a screened-in porch overlooking the water, and cozy bedrooms scattered on three levels. The owners were responsive and helpful during our visit. We appreciated the wireless internet, and on the days when the weather was inhospitable, our girls appreciated the big TV!
