Four of us spent a great week in this wonderful, centrally locat

Left on 09/24/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We felt that our hosts genuinely cared about our well-being while we stayed at their beautifully restored guest house. The kitchen was well equipped, and Roger and Sylvie gave us directions to the closest grocery store. The living area is very cozy with its leather furniture and the WiFi worked well. We took walks into the farm country as well as into the charming town of Chinon with its terrific fortress (a glass elevator goes up the cliff from the town square) and its old half-timbered houses. All the chateaux are within a short drive from this location. Les Cathelinettes and Chinon is certainly a great base for touring the Loire Valley.

Un séjour (de deux semaines) exceptionnel

Left on 08/26/2012 for a stay in July 2012

      Merci

      Ideally located

Left on 08/13/2012 for a stay in August 2011

This was a most sensitively prepared property, the owners were delightful and very friendly. The location is in easy walking distance into the charming town centre with its markets, restaurants and bars. An ideal location from which to tour the surrounding area and vineyards.

the perfect home base for a Loire Valley trip

Left on 07/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012

The directions seemed a little funky but lo and behold, we found it on the first try, and arrived at Les Cathelinettes w/ a warm greeting from owners Sylvie and Roger. This property is a renovated 17th century cottage, right behind a more contemporary home the owners occupy; this is a common arrangement for Loire Valley gites. The living area had plenty of space for us and two kids (10 and 12) and the cottage was clean and well-stocked. The adult bedroom has a full sized bed, smaller than we are used to, but comfortable. The second room has two sweet twin beds with ample rooms for luggage and bedside books, etc. There's one very teeny bathroom -- let's face it, they weren't building with bathrooms in mind 400 years ago! , and my 6 fit tall husband occasionally bumped his head -- but it certainly meets the needs of travelers, with a built-in hair dryer and even a washing machine for clothes. Weather did not let us use the pool, but we had wine poolside with the owners, and found the place to be lovely and clean. Overall, a great home-base for a a small group seeking cleanliness, comfort and informality -- rather than the stuffiness and sterility of hotels.
Chinon is a great hub for exploring the Loire Valley -- sort of equidistant from anywhere. Small enough to be sweet, quaint and quiet; large enough to have a rockin farmers market on Fridays and lots of restaurant choices. We were very happy with this choice and would recommend it to others.

Left on 06/24/2012 for a stay in June 2012

      A home away from home.

Left on 06/20/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We found this gite perfect for us a family of four with two children ages 11 and 3 yrs.The gite has a big lounge and kitchenette which was very clean throughout. It is in a great location on the edge of Chinon town with beautiful views.Very peacefull at night. Sylvie and Roger are lovely and nearby if needed, but left us to get on with our holiday. They have a freindly cat Nougatine( whom our children loved). The pool is great(fenced off so very secure) .We tended to use it late in the afternoon after our trips out to neighbouring villages, chateau's, wine caves and Samaur not too far away. The pool area gets the sun all day even late into the evening, lovely to sit there with a glass of chilled local rose of course.Take some cd's as there is a music system in the lounge, although no sky tv only french channels. You wont be dissapointed staying here, we would stay there again.
