Description
Experience the French country lifestyle at its best and rent "La Menagerie" --a late-18th century stone cottage and former wine-maker house-- in the heart of the Grand Chateau golden triangle (Chambord, Chenonceau and Cheverny) in Central Loire Valley. This is the perfect vacation rental for family reunions, all generations, or a romantic getaway to a French region full of history and culinary tradition, that has been known as the "garden of France" for centuries.
If you have not already read the reviews from previous guests, please do so. They speak volumes about the home, location, hospitality and they say it more eloquently than I could ever describe here.
Food and wine enthusiasts will love the many great restaurants and wineries that can be found in the area, while Kids will discover the House of Magic in Blois, the Tintin museum in Cheverny or the World class Beauval Zoo with its giant pandas, among many activities specifically designed for the younger crowd. Playing golf, riding horses in Royal forests, flying over the region in a hot air balloon ("Montgolfières") or hunting at Fall in Sologne or simply cycling in chateau country along 300 kilometers of secure and well-marked bicycle paths, are among so many activities that this area can offer. Or just take a good book in the house's library, or watch a DVD and relax!
Indeed, the cottage enjoys a very tranquil location, in the midst of woods, fields and vineyards (Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny A.O.C). Yet, it is only 11 Km from the Royal city of BLOIS, 15 km from the charming small town of AMBOISE and two minutes away from Chitenay, a typical French village that features all basic facilities, including a bakery. From PARIS, it is only a two hours and a half drive.
A full renovation of the house completed in 2005, preserved the character of the cottage while making it as comfortable as any contemporary home.
The house gets lots of sunlight, with the main facade facing south. The four skylights on the Northern face give a great view of night skies full of stars. Windows on the west side look towards the pool and nearest hamlet, allowing to enjoy gorgeous sunsets; other windows have views on the surrounding woods and fields.
The main house's surface is approximately 2045 square feet (or 190 m2), laid out on two floors. With its three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, it can accommodate up to six adults in comfort, plus two youngsters in the family room's sofa bed, if necessary. In addition, there is a self-standing/side and optional cottage with veranda that can accommodate two more guests in a charming layout. This is optional and upon request; it is not included in the basic rental rate.If you rent the main cottage, no other guests are admitted in the property and privacy of your party is guaranteed.
The main house is typical of the traditional "longère" style, with a long facade and an upper floor with dormer windows. It features wooden ceiling beams, hardwood floors and a fireplace. It is furnished with country style and a few French antiques. It is decorated with classic paintings and tapestries and a touch of international contemporary design. The dining table can seat up to eight. The kitchen is equipped with gourmet cooking utensils and equipment. It is open to the living and dining room.
Two of the three bedrooms are on the ground floor. One of them, the master bedroom with a queen size bed) has direct access to the wooden deck that is surrounding the pool. The other bedroom on that floor has twins size beds. Also on this floor there is a laundry room with a SAUNA, a full bathroom with toilet and a powder room with a toilet and basin.
The third bedroom is upstairs and has a double bed (queen size) under the roof. It is lightened with two dormer windows and is en suite with a bathroom that has a bathtub, and a powder room with a toilet and basin. The bedroom also opens into a library. On this same first floor, there is a family room with a flat-screen TV and sound system with two sofa beds that can accommodate two additional guests.
Pool can be heated upon request and against an extra 10 Euro fee per day.

House rules
Pets may be allowed on a case by case basis provided that the renter will never leave their pet home alone. A 50 Euro extra cleaning fee will be charged by the home caretakers.
The owner requires the signing of a lease agreement to be reviewed and signed by guest no later that 72 hours after online booking. Otherwise, the owner will cancel the guest's online reservation.
