Description from the owner
A lovely Trullo in an elevated position with views over countryside and our local town of Cisternino (3kms), beautiful gardens and pool set in 2 acres of olive and fruit trees. Self catering with one double bedroom, bathroom, sitting room and kitchen. The Trullo is very appealing architecturally, and furnished comfortably and is well equipped. Private courtyard outside with table, chairs, recliners. A BBQ is available but seldom requested - too many good restaurants to try! The main garden has many places to sit and relax: by the fish pond, near the pool, or on the newly finished Upper Patio - (there are speakers and an ipod adaptor). Ideal f...Read more

Worcester, United KingdomPerfect Honeymoon Retreat
Left on 12/26/2012 for a stay in August 2012
After a year of organising our wedding we wanted the perfect tranquil honeymoon in the perfect setting and in Trullo Caterina we found a little piece of heaven.
From the start of our holiday Jill, Andrew and James were the perfect hosts, ensuring that our all of our expectations were met. We arrived exhausted from the wedding and Jill had a lovely meal awaiting us after our long journey.
The Trullo was extremely clean and well maintained, some of the best accommodation we have stayed in. There is everything you could possibly need, which meant that we could cook meals in when we didn't want to venture out. Evening visits from Charlie Pickles, one of their lovely dogs were welcomed too. Eating our meals outside our little Trulli made us realise that we made the right decision not to go to an all inclusive resort where we would share our breakfast and dinner with hundreds of other couples.
The grounds are beautiful, Andrew certainly works hard to keep the area looking good.
The pool and patio entertainment area is well kept and the perfect spot to spend both days and evenings. We were lucky enough to sample their pizzas! yum!
Cisternino is a beautiful little town with some fantastic restaurants offering a romantic setting, we would definitely recommend the area to couples and honeymooners. Make sure you visit the area before the secret gets out!
What a wonderful honeymoon, one we will never forget.
Thank you Jill, Andrew and James, we hope to return very soon!Response from Jill and Andrew - 01/03/2013

Left on 09/29/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We had two excellent weeks at Trullo Caterina. The Trullo is perfect for two people everything you need and spotlessly clean. Quite and peaceful location and we really enjoyed the pool area which is also kept perfect. Jill, Andrew and James are very welcoming and helpful with any information on the area.
Cisternino is in walking distance and is good for restaurants and bars, also there is a small local bar at Marinelli. There are several places to visit in the area and together with sandy and rocky beaches is a lovely area to visit. We hope to return soon. -

We stayed here for a week as part of a month's driving tour of Italy. Reaching Trollo Caterina 12 days into our trip we were ready to relax and enjoy the wonderful peace and quiet in delightful surroundings. We could not have asked for better. The trollo is indeed compact but perfect for 2. It's nicely furnished with a lovely private patio where we had breakfast every morning and long evenings sipping local wine. The pool area is gorgeous as is the garden with it's lovely old olive trees and views of the undulating countryside dotted with trullis. It was very hot whilst we were there so many hours were spent relaxing with a book under the olive trees beside the pool. We had our bikes so also explored some of the region and local villages. Many restaurants can be found in the small streets in the old part of Cisternino only a couple of miles away, although we chose to eat at home on several occasions as the Trollo and its ambience was so lovely.
Jill and andrew were perfect hosts and always there if we needed them.
We would highly recommend staying here and, given the opportunity, we both hope to return.

We had a wonderful stay, Jill and andrew were perfect hosts. We arrived late, tired and hungry and Jill had prepared us a lovely Italian meal. The trullo was beautifully restored with wonderful views and surroundings. However, the highlight was Charlie Pickle, their very adorable dog!

I have often stayed in places with the intention of returning but this is the first time I have actually done it.
We spent two very enjoyable weeks in Trullo Caterina last year, and it was perfectly located to visit the many beautiful towns and places of interest that Puglia and Basilicata have to offer.
This year we stayed just one very lazy week enjoying the pool and garden at the Trullo. As ever, Andrew and Jill were perfect hosts - always on hand if we needed them.
The trullo is small but extremely comfortable, with a beautiful outside area to sit and read or eat & drink. The pool and barbecue area are gorgeous, and we spent much of our time there reading under the shade of an olive tree. Andrew is a passionate gardener and the care with which the grounds are kept really make this a special place to stay. The photos on the website really don't do him justice! -

Left on 08/03/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We were lucky enough to stay in Trullo Caterina for a week in July and had perfect weather. We absolutely loved it and can only echo the most positive reviews left previously. Jill, Andrew and James were extremely welcoming, kind and generous- they really couldn't have been nicer.
The trullo is compact, peaceful, perfect for 2 and cosy. It's been extremely thoughtfully furnished. The pool area is gorgeous as is the garden with it's lovely old olive trees and views of the undulating countryside dotted with trullis. The location is great for visiting some of the towns nearby - Locorotondo, Ostuni, Martina Franca were all great, and we really liked Cisternino too. The seafood shacks on the coast 20 minutes away were some of our favourite places to eat. If you like animals you'll love Jill, Andrew and James's 3 dogs and cats, all very entertaining (especially Charlie Pickles!)
In summary we'd highly recommend it and can't wait to go back.Response from Jill and Andrew - 08/22/2012

I spent a lot of time looking at reviews and searching the Internet for the kind of place we wanted to stay in Puglia. We wanted a quaint, quiet place, cool in the evenings with a pretty atmosphere but a short distance from the various venues we wanted to visit. Trulla Caterina fit the bill and much more. Jill, Andrew and James, plus the animals made us feel really at home, visiting with us when we wanted company and leaving us alone when we wanted privacy. Their Trulli are absolutely charming, with lots of little extras like the beach chairs for the ocean etc. We were there the very end if June. The weather was warm during the day and cool in the evening. The Trullo stayed cool if we closed it up in the morning. The weather got into the middle 80's and in the 60's overnight. They are at an elevation of about 1500 ft and it cools off toward the evening.
It is obvious andrew has a green thumb as his garden is beautiful. I wish I could have taken home some of his wonderful plants. I felt I was in the middle of a garden oasis with the beautiful pool and his gardens. The owners left us alone at the pool, never using the pool while we were there which was very romantic and nice on their part.
We were welcome with wine and goodies in the Trullo, Jill brought over some of her special roasted peppers one night and andrew supplied us with his home grown yummy figs as well.
We toured in the mornings and early afternoon, but managed to use the pool almost every afternoon after coming home from touring the area except for two days, one at the beach and eating lunch along the coastline and one day driving to Lecce and driving down to the bottom of Italy to the end of the heel.
We would recommend this place to anyone interested. The setting is gorgeous, the Trullo is darling and the owners terrific. -

Returned after the most idyllic week at Trullo Caterina, it is the most delightful place to stay. It is perfect in every way, and Jill andrew and James make the most amazing hosts. Nothing is too much trouble, they could not be more helpful if they tried. We felt we had known them for years, not just a few days. The trullo is easy accessible by car to many of the surrounding towns, and the countryside is glorious. It is too nice to spend many days travelling, just sitting by the pool in andrews beautiful garden is the best relaxation we could recommend.Just as we were leaving Jill had a cancellation through illness, If only we did not have to be back at work, we would have just stayed for 2 more weeks we loved it so much.

My wife and I stayed for one week at this idyllic Trulli in early June 2012. It was just absolutely perfect. Lazy mornings, breakfast al fresco, then to the beautiful swimming pool before a late lunch. Come 4pm, as the sun cooled, it was off for gelato and sight seeing at one of the numerous stunning Puglian towns. The owners were incredibly helpful, friendly and welcoming. We strongly recommend this holiday escape for two. Oh, and not to forget the fabulous, friendly furry friends.
As it pours with rain here in July London, please can we come back! -

We stayed from 22nd September to 5th October. Had perfect weather in a perfect location. The trullo is just the right size for two, very tastefully furnished with all one requires for self catering. It has fantastic views from the trullo itself and the extensive grounds, with the added bonus of a beautifully located small swimming pool. It is ten minutes by car from the centre of Cisternino and is well placed for day trips, or shorter ones to Lecce, Bari, Matera, Giovinazzo, Alberobello, Ostuni etc. It is also about 20 minutes to the nearest beach where we often stopped off at the end of our day trips. The surrounding countryside is very nice with many a thousand year old olive trees - amazing. Our hosts Jane, Andrew and James were extremely hospitable and helpful. We especially appreciated useful local knowledge such as there is a "park and ride" on the outskirts of Bari and the best and most scenic way to reach Matera. Another highlight was being invited to a meal eaten overlooking the pool and enjoying very tasty pizzas cooked by James in the authentic pizza oven. Altogether a very special place to stay.

Left on 09/23/2011 for a stay in September 2011
This is a wonderful place to stay that we would recommend to anyone - after a few days it really felt like home. The guest trullo is beside the owners' main house (also a trullo) on an elevated site in the countryside about 2 miles outside the small town of Cisternino - it is therefore perfectly quiet at night and we were never disturbed by any noise during the 9 nights we stayed there.
The trullo is charming and perfect for a couple - have a look at the photos on the owners' website which really give an accurate impression of the accommodation. There were some really nice touches when we arrived - wine, local biscuits and so on and absolutely spotless accommodation. Jill, Andrew and James are very welcoming - they are really helpful with information and advice, even invited us to a lovely dinner one evening.
There is a pool for guests to use and an enclosed "courtyard" beside the trullo itself with outside table and chairs and sun loungers which we found really pleasant.
We would definitely stay here again. -

Trullo Caterina was everything we'd hoped for and more, we were looking for a peaceful retreat after spending the previous week sightseeing in Rome and Venice and were not disappointed. We had a fabulous time and hope to return and would definately recommend the Trulli to anyone wanting to visit Puglia. -

We stayed for a week and it was a truly relaxing and interesting part of our holiday, with andrew and Jill being wonderful and welcoming hosts. The area is wonderful with great towns to explore, the trulli are set in a wonderful garden, Andrew's work on the pool area has produced a very restful area to go and chill out, the accommodation and pool are immaculate and the guests' area very private and well laid out and the trulli have been converted to a very high standard. Would we go back there again? You bet!! ...and we hope to soon.

We arrived to a lovely warm welcome, shown around and even an evening meal provided, which was a pleasant surprise after travelling. The trulli had everything one could ask for and was well equipped and very welcoming. A truely relaxing break with great hosts who were there to give advice on what to do and see. We could not have asked for a better break and wish andrew and Jill every success for the future. We look forward to returning one day and seeing the trulli, Andrew and Jill once more.

If I were to run my own self-catering place, I'd like it to be at the standard we experienced at Trullo Caterina. The accommodation itself was immaculate and very well equipped. Our hosts were so warm, welcoming, generous and helpful. They gave us recommendations on where to eat, where to go, what to do, and were happy to be as involved, or as little involved as we needed.
The weather wasn't as warm as we hoped, so we had to stay in some days, but the trullo was so cosy that it really was a home away from home. Trullo Caterina's resident furry friends were always relaxing outside and a constant source of entertainment. We were more than happy to while away the hours playing with them.
The trullo itself is warm in winter and cool in summer, but during spring it got quite chilly inside -- we had to use the heating. House slippers are recommended if the weather is unseasonably (and unreasonably) chilly, as the stone floors get very cold. Our hosts made sure we were comfortable enough, offering lots of extra blankets, and jackets!
We spent a week there, and made day trips from the trullo. The location is peaceful and near great beaches, restaurants, a friendly supermarket, sightseeing spots.. you couldn't ask for more. -

Jill and andrew were the perfect hosts. We received excellent instructions for finding their place and welcome guidance when exploring the local area. The trullo is beautifully appointed, private and surrounded by wonderful gardens in which to relax. We were made to feel totally at home. The charming rural location is central to many of the wonderful attractions of apulia as well as being close to the coast. We loved Trullo Caterina so much we extended our stay.

This is a small but charming trullo (attached to the owners' own trullo) and set in farmland just a 5 min drive from Cisternino; 20 mins drive to the coast and within the proximity of interesting places to visit - Locorotondo, Ostuni and Martina Franca - where there is a classical music festival in the summer.
One should have no concerns about the owners being so close. The trullo is very private and the owners andrew and Jill, are delightful, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area and are always on hand if required. You do run the risk of being invited for a glass (or two) of the local vino and prosciutto combined with some very warm company.
The trullo icludes its own sitting room, kitchen, immaculate bathroom and a garden terrace outside the entrance for those who enjoy an espresso in the sun with or without smoke! -

When we arrived at Trullo Caterina, we were enchanted by the design and atmosphere of these unusual buildings and the beautiful landscape surrounding them.
With the very warmest of welcomes from Jill and andrew, who can advise on everything you could want to know about the local area and beyond, we were hooked!
The Trullo itself is delightfully cosy, immaculate, with lovely homely touches. Outside, the immediate courtyard is perfect for eating 'al fresco' and the extensive grounds and unique pool are stunning.
There are so many fascinating places of interest, together with the beaches, to visit. However, time and again you will be drawn back to the peace and total relaxation that is Trullo Caterina.

My wife and I have stayed at Trullo Caterina three times already, and are planning another visit there shortly.
Trullo Caterina has become our home from home whenever we are in the area. The trullo is well equipped and comfortable and lacks for nothing; moreover, Jill has added little touches that make one's stay even more homely.
Andrew is always available with great recommendations and suggestions and, as a bonus, will gladly organise some serious trekking in the 'backwoods' of the region.
on the other hand, the pool and garden are ideal for a total do-nothing-but-relax type holiday.
These accommodations are 'trulli' perfect, but one does need a car (or a bicycle).

It was a short but most relaxing winter break. On 2 mornings it was warm enough to have morning coffee outside in our pyjamas! Lots of places to explore, interesting towns as well as coastline. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars is because it was too cold to try out the swimming pool! The trullo was warm and cosy.

LondonThe place to be
Left on 02/20/2011 for a stay in July 2010
I have been to Italy many times from the north to the south. However, I finally felt I genuinely experienced real Italy, to be more precise, real Southern Italy. To stay in Cisternino was not flashy summer like staying in Capri or Sorrento, however everything I was seeking for in the Southern Italy were here.
Amazingly good food, fresh ingredients and wines (just going to the supermarket was such a joy) ...simple life with quality and more than anything, everything was so cheap. Probably, I am quite idealistic about Southern Italy, but my summer here was so rich in many ways that I will never forget it.
Trullo Caterina was very charming and cozy place. Since this is trullo style villa and guests sleep in the trullo, you will not need to go to alberbello, where it became so touristic that it is almost disappointing to visit. You will be able to have whole experience and scenary of this area just staying in Trullo Caterina.
You will be welcomed by extremely lovely English couple and their loving dogs and cats and etc.. running around in the Southern Italy/English style garden.
By looking where Cisternino is on the map, it seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Yes, it is middle of nowhere but Martina Franca, Ostuni, Alberobello and beach areas are within 30 to 40 minutes away by car... If time allows, you will be able to visit another Unesco site called Matera. It is in about 2 hours drive. The owner can guide you to amazing attractions such as trecking and hiking in Pollino National Park.
You must have a car to get around, however bus and train rides are something to experience as well. Surprisingly, public transport is quite organised! you just need to forget about time and your purpose. Just enjoy whatever comes along.
Someone who is looking for a vacation for not doing anything and real experience, forget about big resort. This is the place to be.

Trullo Caterina - our first time in this part of Italy and we were enchanted. The Trullo is situated in beautiful surroundings complete with a uniquely splendid outdoor pool and providing a wonderful and relaxing base for exploring Puglia. Gill and andrew were excellent hosts and nothing was too much trouble - providing advice, recommendations and much needed directions! The accommodation is very well equipped with everything you would expect - and more - making self catering very easy. The Trullo is in easy reach of all the major towns and the coast - and thanks to advice from Gill and andrew we found some hidden gems. We look forward to our return trip and sampling yet more of the local red (and white!) - not forgetting Trullo Caterina's own olive oil.
