Description from the owner
Casa Tersalle is an attractive traditional farmhouse villa ('casa colonica') sleeping 2-8 people and thus offers flexibility for different sized groups. There are different tariffs according to the number of guests staying; however you are guaranteed exclusive use of the property however many people are staying. Casa Tersalle forms part of a small hamlet situated in stunningly beautiful countryside in the northern part of Umbria, close to the border with Tuscany, and is easily reached from the following airports: Perugia, Bologna, Florence, Pisa, Ancona, Rome.
Casa Tersalle farmhouse is an ideal choice if you are looking for simple y...et comfortable accommodation in the beautiful, peaceful countryside of Umbria (region known to Italians as the 'Green Heart of Italy') - a place to relax and enjoy a taste of the natural beauty and the many nearby sights that this still unspoilt part of Italy has to offer.
The farmhouse has the great attraction of being located in tranquil countryside while at the same time being close to amenities such as shops, restaurants and bars, with the local village just a pleasant ten minute walk away through the fields. There are various local markets where you can get a feel of local life and a park with a children's playground area a 5 minute drive away. Also in the area there are many charming mediaeval hilltop villages and towns waiting to be explored and there is the Italian culture, art and tradition of towns and cities such as Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio, Arezzo, Siena, Cortona and Florence within easy reach. In fact, we find that some guests like to enjoy a two-centre holiday, with a few days in Rome, for example, followed by some time to relax at Casa Tersalle.
The Casa Tersalle accommodation is on two floors, offering plenty of flexibility for different sized groups. As a result, we have different price tariffs depending on the number of people staying. For 5-8 people the booking is for the whole house (3 bedrooms). For 2-4 people there is one bedroom (1 double or 2 single beds) plus the possibility of 2 single beds in the living room, the upper floor being closed off. However, an extra room on the upper floor can be made available on request for a small extra charge. NB - The house is a single unit and therefore visitors have exclusive use, however many people are staying.
The New Zealand/English owners, Rob and Jane, bought Casa Tersalle on a whimsy in 1988 after falling in love with the farmhouse (which is more than 300 years old), the views and the area, and decided to take the plunge and settle here. We moved in and then had the house carefully restored, with an eye to retaining the original Umbrian farmhouse character: ceilings with exposed wooden beams, tiled floors, wooden shutters, open fireplace and woodburning stoves are among the features. At the same time we incorporated modern facilities and comforts in the kitchen and bathrooms. All the rooms are light, spacious and fully furnished in a simple but comfortable manner.
Outside there is a large sunny south-facing terrace where you can sit and relax and dine al fresco, at the same time taking in the wonderful views of the surrounding fields and small lake, all with a backdrop of green wooded hills.
In 2010 we installed an above-ground plunge pool (3.5 m diam, 75 cm deep) - great for cooling off on hotter days during the summer months. This has proved to be an extremely popular addition, both with children and adults!
Rob and Jane, who work as English language teachers in the area, live in separate accommodation (in the former animal stalls!) and are available for any help or advice that may be required. Whilst respecting guests' privacy, we are also happy to share a bottle of wine and a chat on the terrace...

Cozy & welcoming farmhouse retreat in a bucolic setting
You won't be disappointed by this choice. It's a traditional farmhouse structure, so don't expect large, open plan living areas.
The stone and timber house that is Casa Tersalle has all the character and basic amenities you need, and it's set in wonderful rolling countryside with lots of opportunities for walks.
You may need to be a bit more creative if you've got teenagers in tow. Endless eating may satisfy them, but they might tire of scenic villages unless there's a reward.
It's also very well placed for other places of interest by car/bike, so there's no chance of being bored - unless you've chosen completely the wrong sort of holiday in the first place!
Rob and Jane are warm and welcoming. I'm sure that's a cliche in their Visitors' Book, but it's true. They showed absolutely no signs of 'Visitor Fatigue' and they're the mine of info you'd expect from long time residents in the area.
Organizing our stay was as easy as it could be and communication with them were as smooth and effortless as time differences allow.
We went in October, which was ideal and allowed us to pick figs ripe where we found them. We especially enjoyed the local markets, which are conveniently on different days in different places.
Winter or full autumn would be a real experience here, furnishing all the excuses you'd need for lighting the fire and wood burning cooker in the kitchen, but summers might be cruel...
Finally, make the effort - learn a little Italian. Not much English is spoken in these parts but a few phrases for ordering and exchanging courtesies are the least anyone can do visiting another country.
relaxed comfortable quite
we were looking for somewhere that was relaxed rustic and comfortable and we got this and more Rob and Jane local info and hospitality ensured our Umbrian/Tuscan vacation was the best ever holiday thanks guys stay well and safe.

It is quite a nut to crack if You try to write a different or unusual review here because all is already said by previous guests. And that is all true.
When we arrived in Casa Tersalle and had a look around then for a first time in a rental house we didn't feel like it is rented. It felt like we were staying at somebody's home. The house is spacious and furnished with a taste, yet very comfortable. We had everything we needed for cooking in the kitchen and more. And what we didn't have - all we needed to do was ask Rob or Jane and the problem was solved.
For us it was a 3 generation vacation and it worked out extremely well. The normal hot hot day at "home" would look like this - grown ups sipped cold drinks in the lovely shade on the terrace or sunbathe in the garden and the pool had the function of babysitting. Kids just adored their babysitter.
Location of the house is just perfect. We made longer trips from Casa Tersalle to both shores - to Mediterranean sea and Rome, and to the other direction - to adriatic sea. And there is uncountable number of historic towns and villages or breathtaking spots in the nature scattered all over the border between Umbria and Tuscany. We spent 12 days in Casa Tersalle and it was certainly not enough.
Most certainly we are not able to thank enough our hosts - Rob and Jane. It's difficult to try to describe these two people with lots of words. So I'd call the way Rob and Jane were handling things and hosting us just smooth and flawless flow. It's not said on the web page that if You rent this house You will get the superior quality company of R&J; along with it.
I would absolutely recommend Casa Tersalle! We enjoyed every second spent there.
Can't thank You enough, Rob and Jane!

Almost Heaven in Umbria
My husband and I stayed with Rob and Jane at Casa Tersalle for the second half of May 2013. The facilities are excellent, Rob and Jane's service to us was over and above what one would expect and the position of Casa Tersalle in the Umbrian hills is just beautiful. For the first week we were joined by friends from australia and the second week we were on our own. Both situations were great. Rob and Jane's knowledge of their locality is boundless and the information available to their guests was a great help in planning our trips and adventures. The scenery around the farmhouse is spectacular and the hilltop villages which can be reached in day trips from the farmhouse are old, beautiful and filled with history. There were no downsides to our visit to Casa Tersalle.
We will definitely be going back and I hope its soon.

such a warm welcome! great base for exploring Umbria and Tuscany
If you are looking to get away from it all and yet have an excellent base from which to explore Umbria and Tuscany - then this is the place for you!
My family, 4 adults and 4 children aged 2-13, stayed here for a 10 day vacation in Umbria and Tuscany and were very happy. Rob and Jane made us very welcome and everything we needed from the accommodation we had. the kitchen and dinning areas are spacious and very well equipped. The lounge is comfortable with enough seating and area for the kids to play. There is a TV but we rarely needed to turn it on because there was so much to see and do. The bedrooms were also comfortable and well set out. The hot water was plentiful and didn't let us down even with 8 people showering.
We arrived in cars we hired from Rome FCO airport. I think it would be essential to have a car if you want to enjoy this region fully. During our stay we visited many towns - each with its own particular highlights and history: Assisi, Sansepulcro, Monterchi, Arezzo, Sienna, Perugia, Citta di Castello, Florence... so beautiful and such great food.
Some of our party took advantage of the many walks that can be made from the farmhouse villa into the surrounding countryside. Stunning views all around and fresh air! Even the teenager in our party managed to have a good time.
The local village has a supermarket and excellent greengrocers for essential food supplies. There is a very nice restaurant in Monterchi (5 mins drive) "La Vecchia Osteria". There are better bigger supermarkets and shopping areas in Citta di Castello (15 mins drive) or Sansepulcro (20 mins drive).
Rob and Jane are very knowledgeable about the area and were very helpful with giving advice and providing information when needed.
Friendly welcome to casa Tersalle
An excellent week apart from the car breakdown, but Jane and Rob were most helpful in dealing with problems involved. A good place for a three generation family stay with all necessities provided, though an electric kettle would have speeded up the baby's feeds.Friendly supermarket staff helped with our self-catering needs. Memorable places- MSM Tiberina restaurant, Anghieri, Cortona.
Beautiful countryside and views. Would definitely go again.
Hosts from heaven
We came to Casa Tersalle for a three-generation family holiday ... and it worked extremely well. It gave us what we wanted: opportunities for being together in a wonderful location and opportunities for doing exciting things on our own. We cherished the family meals we had together on the outside terrace with wonderful views of rolling hills and Lippiano village. My granddaughter loved the plunge pool, my daughters loved reading and bathing in the sun, and I loved our excursions to the ancient cities of Sienna and Perugia and the mountain villages of anghiari, Monterchi and many others. And our day trip to Lake Trasimeno was special. Our hosts Rob and Jane were always at hand with up to date advice of where to eat or which gigs to go to - unexpected piano or jazz concerts - open air. If you want lazy luxury Casa Tersalle is not the place for you. If you value sensible practicality and want a friendly base from where to explore things without spending the earth, this place is ideal for you.

Casa Tersalle met all my expectations. A beautiful old house with a spectacular view, very well equipped and the hospitality and service we received from Rob (Jane was in England during our stay) was the best.
We loved our stay and I will cherish my memories of this special holiday at this very special location.

daily life in "our casa on top of the mountain"!
What a place to live. Every day again we enjoyed our trip up the mountain, the beautifull landscape and the authentic experience of living in a rural area [no tourists in sight!]
We were close enough to make day trips to arezzo, Citta di Castello, Perugia, Assisi etc.
Rob, our host, was always available with friendly advice. Lots of local information and always willing to help.
The 300 years old farmhouse was cosy, very well equipped and to put it in a few words: felt like home.
We had fun and games in the pool, lots of giggles!
Enjoyed the surrounding areas and villages, so much to see and experience, too much to put into a few words.
Would love to come back one day and for the people who read this...live in Casa Tersalle, breath in a bit of Umbria.

A restful vacation in a beautiful, peaceful setting
Jane and Rob were excellent hosts, the best we have ever had! They were friendly, helpful and cheerful, they gave us useful information about the surrounding area and attractions. Rob even took us to a walking tour in the hills!
The house was just what we had pictured it to be: a friendly country house with history and modern amenities skilfully mixed. The huge fireplace we did not use, but the plungepool was in a frequent use, due to the summer heat!
The scenery from the house was breath-taking, to say the least. There are nice restaurants just a short drive away, and grocery-stores are, if not walking distance, not so far away either. The neighboring towns are delightful, our favorites were Citerna and anghiari.
As to the house, everything worked perfecly, as it should. No disappointments anywhere!
Dolce fa niente ( It is sweet to do nothing), Italian saying.
Doing nothing is a possibility at Casa Tersalle, sitting on the terrace with Rob and Jane, drinking local wine, eating tasty local foods, admiring the wonderful Umbrian countryside, retiring to the comfortable well appointed farmhouse accomodation, with your life enhanced and richer for the experience. Or you can get into your car and visit a wide variety of non touristy nearby towns and villages, restaurants, festivals, markets, churches, great art and architecture, or a little further afield, Florence, Sienna, Arezzo, Assisi etc. Rob and Jane are wonderful, generous and knowledgeable hosts who have fully adopted daily Italian life and who are willing to help travellers enjoy and gain maximum benefit from their stay.
If you want to experience local country Italian life for a while Casa Tersalle is a great place to do so. Highly recommended by three 60+ friends from NZ who stayed at Casa Tersalle Sept 2011.

Live like an Italian
We really enjoyed our stay with Jane and Rob. We were looking for an authentic Italian country vacation spot and I think we found it. The location is off the beaten path which provides for much tranquility and relaxation. At the same time, the Casa is no more than a few hours drive from tourist favorites including (Siena, Florence, Pisa and the many hill towns of Tuscany/Umbria). We traveled with 4 adults and 4 children and we all found something special about Casa Tersalle. My 11 year old daughter said "it was cool, like our own hidden valley away from the big cities but still close at the same time. And there is a great big, lovable dog named Tommy”. Rob and Jane were courteous and helpful. We found Casa Tersalle to be a great value. If you are looking for an authentic Italian country experience, then you have found the right place.

Under the Umbrian Sun
If you're looking for the authentic experience of living in - not just looking at - the countryside, Casa Tersalle is perfect for you. A delightful off-the-beaten-track home situated among rolling hills with a view of nearby Lippiano across the valley, the Casa includes all amenities augmented by genial, knowledgeable, friendly hosts who know and are passionate about the area. Rob will even share the history of the house and property, if you ask. The house was delightful, with exposed beams and homages to its past, along with a very modern bathroom and updated appliances in the kitchen. Even a welcome basket of treats greeted us upon our late arrival (after midnight, driving down from Lake Como).
We travelled with another family and a total of four children ranging from 11 to 7. The kids absolutely adored the pool and making their own 'fort' where they comfortably played for hours, allowing the adults to relax and enjoy downtime. The nearby cities of arezzo, Citta de Castella, Montrichi, etc. offered delights and were within easy distance. Further travel brought us to Siena, Florence and even Pisa and Castiglioncello.
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Terselle. Rob is a great host we had some great dinners together outside. Rob is very knowledgeable about places to visit and their history. My teenage children enjoyed the information he shared and the questions he asked them. The accommodation itself was great, lots of room for a family or large group, clean, peaceful, historic lovely rural setting. I watched wild deer running through the paddock early in the morning. A great place to relax if you need to, good local shopping if you wanted to cook or you can enjoy some good local restaurants. My son had stayed here 2 years previous and recommended it for me, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Lots of amazing medievil villages close by which can be visited on day trips. In July august you can see paddocks full of beautiful sunflowers. There is always a festival happening at one of the villages close by that you can visit. Rob is full of information about whats happening and where best to visit
A pleasant house in rural Umbria
We were given a very warm welcome by our hosts in this lovely and pleasant house in the middle of the scenic Umbrian countryside. It offered not only beautiful views, but also comfort and all equipment necessary for living, cooking and relaxation. Its bookcase was full of fiction as well as guides, dictionaries and files with maps and booklets about interesting places within reach. This part of Italy is extremely rich in lovely medieval towns and villages with numerous sights of historical and cultural interest. One could spend months exploring the architectural gems and works of art there. On the other hand, Umbria and Tuscany also offer natural beauties and lots of hiking routes off the beaten path.
Our hosts were always ready to provide us with advice, information, hints or we just had a chat. We enjoyed our almost two-week stay in Casa Tersalle very much.
Welcoming friendly farmhouse in charming, rural, Italy.
Rob was an outstanding host. He provided a wealth of information about all the local hill towns, walks, and places of interest. Staying in a historic farmhouse in rural Italy was a highlight for our trip around Italy!
A Sublime Setting
This is such a fabulous setting that we were always keen to return to it even after trips to gorgeous medieval hill-top villages. This was the perfect spot for the two of us and our 2 children (aged 5 and 7). To sit on the terrace and gaze at mellow sun-drenched fields of sunflowers and tree-clad hills whilst the children splashed in the plunge pool was bliss. When you add friendly, helpful and discreet hosts to this you have the perfect family holiday; what more can be said?!
A snatch of paradise
After a fairly frenetic 3 weeks exploring the Baltic States, we arrived at Casa Tersalle and felt as if we had come home.
The friendliness of our hosts combined with the fantastic location made this a sojourn that we will never forget.
Sitting on the terrace drinking fine Italian red wines (thank you Rob and Jane for your recommendations and organising visits to nearby wineries),watching first the sunset and then as the evening fell, the flickering of fireflies starting around us, left us feeling content with life.
Our accommodation was lowkey and relaxed with as much or as little imput from our hosts as we wanted. It was very clean and very comfortable with everything you could possibly need -as well as our hosts nearby to help with anything from bookings to corkscrews!
Casa Tersale is so central for exploring all of Umbria and Tuscany by car or train.
I loved being able to get 'home' after a day out and relax whilst regaling Rob and Jane with our adventures- many of which had been taken at their recommendation. They really do know the area and are a fantastic source of history or just fascinating anecdotes.
I loved this place and will return any time I am in Europe -it is well with the extra side trip and will always feel like a 'coming home' to good friends.

Simply the best
We had 8 days with Rob and Jane. We are a 50 something couple from New Zealand and were having our first Italian experience accompanied by our daughter resident in the UK but celebrating her 30th birthday with us. Tersalle ticked all our boxes. It was quiet and the immediate environs were full of real people and real Italian rural life. From the kids from the neighbouring farm driving off to school in their 3 wheeler scooter trucks to the bar 20 minutes walk away in Lippiano and that charmer Marchello and his family in their 'supermarket' a short 10 minutes drive away. With a dozen hilltop villages within 30 minutes by car Tersalle is a great launching pad as well as being a restorative oasis. Tersalle is not a resort. Herein lies it's charm. It is an Italian farmhouse very comfortably furnished and with a good level of appointment and room to spread out in the most picturesque environment imaginable. Rob and Jane are great hosts. They shared a meal with us early in our stay while Rob was a mine of information on the area and on Italy generally. Birthday balloons for our daughter were a nice touch! At the same time, there is all the privacy you need. On our Italian adventure we visited Florence, Naples, Rome and Tersalle. We will return to Tersalle!
Wonderful Holiday - hope to come back!
Having just spent three hectic days in Florence, Casa Tersalle was the perfect location to relax. All the basics are covered (often this is not the case, so it's worth mentioning!): the booking process is easy, accurate and friendly (conversing with a real person is great!), the price is very reasonable, the house is spotless, the hosts are welcoming and the accommodation is just like it seems on the website - actually, it exceeded our expectations. The house is spacious, rustic, very comfortable and full of interesting books and information on the local area. There is so much to do; everyday could be a adventure filled with walking in the hills (gorgeous scenery), exploring the tiny and beautiful hill top villages only minutes away, travelling to and from the larger cities (so many are only a day-trip away) and sampling the local cuisine at one of the many excellent restaurants... however, we enjoyed the villa so much we had an equally good time cooking up local produce from the local store (the hilarious store-owner becoming a mate for a week!), drinking too much wine on the terrace and traipsing up a track to the nearest village to sample gelato overlooking the stunning farmland. Jane and Rob deserve a special mention - I came to Italy to celebrate my 30th Birthday, and remembering this they left a lovely bottle of bubbles in the fridge (on top of the posh biscuits and wine in the gift basket left in the kitchen), and decorated the porch with balloons on my birthday. They are full tips and hints about the local area, helped us make restaurant bookings, advised us on the next part of our Italian adventure, introduced us to amazing Italian BBQ sausages and Rob even took us on a great tour of Citta di Castello. We really enjoyed sharing a small part of our holiday with Jane and Rob - but if you're looking to be left entirely to your own devices, Casa Tersalle is also the perfect private holiday retreat, with hosts available to help when you need them.
A lovely week in the Umbrian countryside
Our week at Casa Tersalle was lovely. The perfect weather was matched by Rob's and Jane's warm welcome and excellent hospitality. They had huge amounts of information available on the surrounding towns and provided even more interesting and useful tips that enabled us to use our time well. The house was comfortable with little extras (herbs and spices in the kitchen and books in the lounge to name a few) that made it feel just like our own holiday home. We enjoyed the wood fired stove in the lounge but also apreciated the option of central heating if we wanted. The surrounding towns we visited were gorgeous and in February, beautfully quiet. We wanted to stay in an old, authentic, rustic farmhouse and were very pleased with our choice. Rob and Jane gave us insights into life in rural Italy, the history of the area and some help with our Italian! - Just the sort of experience you would miss out on staying in a hotel and exactly what made our holiday so enjoyable.
Peace and comfort in an ideal location
We spent a very relaxing week here in September. Jane and Rob are great hosts and we enjoyed chatting with them very much. The house is just as pictured on the website and very comfortable. It is great having space to spread out when you are doing a lot of travelling around, and we really appreciated the well stocked bookcase and the folders with extensive information about many possible places to visit. The house would suit a wide range of people from families with children to someone wanting a quiet place to write.
In our week there we didn't get out for walks as much as we would have liked to because we were too busy visiting the wonderful art [Piero della Francesca and much more] in the nearby towns of arezzo, Sansepolcro, Citta di Castello and of course the village of Monterchi. We also had a great time at the festival in San Sepolcro. There is a great deal to do and see in the vicinity and lots of good places to eat, with a relaxing home to return to at the end of the day.

A beautiful place, peaceful and relaxing with wonderful views
We had a lovely week in Italy, staying in a tranquil , peaceful area but near enough for trips to Rome, Florence, Perugia etc.Jane and Rob are knowledgable about the area and really helpful. Also sampled lovely Italian food and wine! After being back at work 2 weeks I could do with another week in Italy!

A good place to relax, but also close to other must see places
The villa is very spacious and has an interesting history. The oldest part being over 300 years old (from memory).
The free internet service nearby in Monterchi is great, but not as convenient as it would be if you had wifi in the villa. We used our mini-laptop lots on our 10 week trip to Europe, often only booking a few days ahead.

A Fairytale Stay in Umbria
Rob & Jane were very warm and welcoming folks. They took the trouble to explain how everything in the apartment worked then told us of the points of interest in the surrounding district. They made some recommendations of places to visit, all of which were well worth a trip. The apartment was spotlessly clean and was thoroughly stocked with all the equipment we needed for self-catering. It was set in very picturesque countryside, amongst fields of sunflowers and wheat, looking towards the quaint town of Lippiano. Rob offered to be our guide on a couple of excursions and turned out to be extremely knowledgable regarding the history of the places we visited as well as having a good eye for the art treasures, both religious and secular, found in the most unexpected places. It was hot while we were there - around 38C - and Rob & Jane's plunge pool got lots of use! We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 days there. There wasn't any downside to it, and we would recommend it.

Wonderful hospitality in charming location
My husband and I had a wonderful time at Casa Tersalle, both because of the friendly welcoming atmosphere and hospitality of our hosts and because of Casa Tersalle's location in the beautiful Umbrian countryside. It is also relatively close to towns such as Florence, Perugia and assisi, where we were able to sightsee. We particularly enjoyed the markets in Florence, which we visited twice during our stay.

A heavenly place to stay
Jane & Rob were welcoming hosts to their beautiful villa which, although secluded, is really close to wonderful Italian towns. We've been to Umbria/Tuscany several times before, but Jane & Rob really made it special for us as they have an excellent knowledge of the area and were extremely friendly without being too "in your face". A perfect combination and we'll definitely be returning to them.
Delightful escape to tranquility
We had an amazing time with Rob and Jane who provided an excellent stay in the Tardis of the guest house.
The local scenery is beautiful with some lovely walks nearby.
Local restaurants provided a wonderful selection of pizza and pasta dishes with a couple of hidden gems providing magnificent views over the Tiber Valley.
Would recommend the stay to anyone who wants a bit of escapism within easy reach of many towns and villages for a day of sight seeing or two.
Michael and Vivien
A spacious home in Umbria.
A wonderfully spacious house in a beautiful location.
We were there mainly for the walking, but we also visited Perugia and Florence, as well as regular visits to the nearby towns of San Sepulcro and Citta di Castello. This is the Upper Tiber valley, very near to, arguably, Italy's heartland - Saint Francis, Piero della Francesca, Perugino, Pinturicchio - and this leaves out all the Florence Renaissance people!
Charming hosts,comfortable accommodation
The house was very well equipped. The kitchen very functional, the bathroom
new and big, and a lovely lounge room with stunning views. Information on
the website was extremely accurate. Rob and Jane were always willing to give
advice and were there if anything was needed from information to friendship.
We enjoyed their company and their sharing of local knowledge. The week
spent here allowed us to explore the lovely region and the house was a
spacious and cosy place to return to at the end of a day of adventure.

Great place to stay and great folk to stay with
Just had a great time at Casa Tersalle. Beautiful location, very authentic Umbrian accomodation and Rob and Jane were terrific. We needed the space to shut ourselves away to recover from a crazy few weeks work, but then also really valued their advice and input. Great guys and great insight into Umbrian/Tuscan life. The nearby town of Monterchi was fascinating and only a little further afield Anghiari and Assisi are awesome. Terrific value for money and thoroughly recommended.
Fantastic hosts and a great place to stay!
Casa Tersalle was a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the rural Italian experience. The farmhouse itself is 300+ years old, in the middle of a working farm and has been authentically restored to retain the charm of the old world, but with all the modern bathroom/kitchen necessities - fully self-contained with everything you need.
You can take it as easy or as busy as suits your own holiday style. Located within 15 mins of lots of centuries-old little walled hilltop towns to explore as well as larger towns with full services, shops etc. Within 1-2 hours from all the major Tuscan and Umbrian tourist town/sights. So much to see and do and lots of interesting history to absorb. Plenty of restaurants and bars close by to eat out and a great little supermarket with a local "character" (Marcello) who is really friendly and welcoming to "out of towners".
Rob and Jane were fantastic hosts, always available when needed to provide advice, assistance and they even invited us for a few meals! More like great neighbours or friends than just accommodation providers. They also helped us sort out a few little traveller's problems like how to buy a new non-contract mobile phone in a small town when you don't speak Italian! We'll certainly be keeping in touch and hope some day to return!
Stunning Casa Tersalle
Wow! Casa Tersalle is sited in stunning rural Umbrian countryside. The 7 days we stayed with Rob and Jane was the highlight of our European trip. Their old farm house has recently been renovated, is very comfortable and sited in a small quite hamlet. The house overlooks a wooded farming valley. There are wonderful local walks around the valley and into Lippiano.
Jane and Bob were excellent & friendly hosts. Having lived in the area for nearly 20 years they know the locals and non tourist local events. We spent a wonderful evening in Citta de Castello at a local festival. Very memorable!
If you play scrabble... do challenge Jane to a game!
We loved our time at Casa Tersalle, will certainly return there again soon.

Fabulous rural peace!
Thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful rural ambience of this beautiful place in northern Umbria. Accommodation is very well appointed and comfortable. Views amazing - medieval walled town on hill across fields of sunflowers and tobacco - hosts Rob and Jane very friendly and helpful re where to go and what to see. And they both speak Italian and will help book travel etc! I recommend this wonderful place for anyone looking for a quiet retreat from which to explore the real Italy.
This is a well located, supplied and reasonably priced farmhouse. The real benefit is the local knowledge and organized information of the hosts, Rob and Jane, who go out of their way to assist you and share their local expertise. They even installed additional railings for my wife (who has ambulation problems due to a previous stroke). I would highly recommend Tersalle.
Beautiful rustic farmhouse apartment on Umbria Tuscany border
Spacious, rustic and completely equiped house in between Umbria and Tuscany. The house is part of a 3 house complex and the owners live next door. The terrace and garden is shared with them.
Within an hour drive there is an enourmous amount of exploring to do.
Rob and Jane are extremely helpful, friendly (thanks for the welcoming BBQ!!) and have great tips for day trips, food and local events!

home away from home
Rob and Jane very welcoming and always helpful. The farmhouse had everything we needed, even for the eight of us.
The outlook from the house was fantastic.
A great central location for exploring the Umbria/Tuscany region.
Very comfortable and yet still rustic
Loved the local village of Monterchi
Would come again.

a wonderful retreat in the Italian countryside
We had a fantastic time and would definitely return if we had the chance. The house is charming, comfortable and clean. Rob & Jane are great hosts. The location is great. Close enough to the major sites, and surrounded by lovely little villages to explore. We would feel very comfortable recommending this place

Authentic farmhouse, picturesque environment, wonderful hosts
We stayed several days at Casa Tersalle in October 2007. A very comfortable and authentic farmhouse in a very picturesque area. This is a great place to stay and explore the historic towns of the Tuscany/Umbria border area. The combination of the historic towns set in such beautiful countryside makes this an unforgettable stay. Rob and Jane are terrific hosts who went the extra mile to make our stay extra special.

Had five fantastic days at this beautiful historic tranquil spot. Rob & Jane were extremely friendly hosts who went out of their way to ensure we got the most out of our stay. Their local knowledge of the history and in depth tourist information was exceptional. It is our intention to return again as soon as we are able.

Great location, lovely people
Rob & Jane were very friendly & inviting. Loved to share their knowledge & experiences. House was spacious & in a great location. Had a great time. We stayed mid winter, few travellers so got to meet mainly local people and was most welcomed.

A peaceful base, cool inside.
A comfortable and well equipped apartment. We particularly appreciated the indoor space : big rooms which were cool coming in from the heat outside. It is 'modernised' to a good standard but without losing the feel of an old farmhouse.
Outside we had use of a terrace looking over farm land which sloped down and then up to a nearby village which was an easy-ish walk up the hill, ending conveniently by the bar.
Our hosts were welcoming and helpful while leaving us to do whatever we wanted.
Depending on what you like it's a lovely area, just above the Tiber valley. And it's Piero de la Francesca country so don't miss the pregnant madonna just down the road at Monterchi, next to the shop!
Yes, to be recommended if you want a peaceful base for the area.
The perfect place to unwind and enjoy the best of the Italian co
Rob and Jane are the best of hosts - friendly, generous, and more than happy to share their knowledge of the region (and a bottle of wine if you wish!), but never intrusive. They're just there whenever you need them. The house is cool and spacious with lovely views across the valley, and extremely well-equipped. We stayed as a party of two couples, but there is plenty of room (and facilities) for families. There's a big, friendly kitchen, a comfortable sitting room (with a log burner for cooler evenings), immaculate modern bathrooms, and a garden to sit around in when you can't be bothered to explore. The house is remote but not isolated and the surrounding countryside a paradise for walkers. A little further afield are delightful medieval towns and villages, with the larger cities of Siena, Perugia, and Florence a pleasant drive away. It's not the place for anyone who wants bright lights, fast food, and round-the-clock entertainment, but for people who want to get away from it all in the real, unspoiled Italian countryside, Casa Tersalle is certainly the place to be.
Casa Tersalle is an impressive and spacious villa set amongst the beautiful, undulating countryside of Umbria. Having spent several holidays in Tuscany we decided to explore further south and were delighted with the variety of places to visit in the environ of Casa Tersalle. We were able to visit many historical hilltop cities and Etruscan sites besides enjoying country fairs overloaded with their fare of mushrooms, truffles and varieties of honey. We thoroughly enjoyed our October stay. There was so much to see and do and the house itself was a very welcome and cosy base after a long day out. The owners gave us a warm welcome and we hope to return to visit many more places as one week was simply not long enough.

Peaceful and relaxing with beautiful surroundings
We enjoyed a superb week here prior to attending my cousins wedding in Tuscany. We found Casa Tersalle easy to drive to from the airport and Rob & Jane were welcoming, friendly and easygoing hosts who were around if we wanted them, though leaving us in peace otherwise. They provided us with lots of local insider info eg where to park, eat & walk etc which was invaluable.
The location is ideally placed for walking and visiting other villages and towns and the Casa is traditional and comfortable. Overall a great taste of a beautiful region of Italy.
Beautiful spot on Umbrian/Tuscan borders
This is an idyllic place in the heart of the countryside but also close enough to some beautiful hill top towns and villages. The accommodation is very comfortable and Jane and Rob make the perfect 'hosts' - there when you need them for advice on where to go and what to see, but not intrusive - they live in separate accommodation on site. On our week in May they helped organise some fantastic walks in the area - the wild flowers and scenery were fabulous. I would really recommend this place as somewhere to really relax and unwind and a good base from which to see some of the best of central Italy
Excellent welcome and accommodation
Jane and Rob were lovely hosts, achieving a balance between being there for advice help and company when needed, but also leaving us to do our own thing.
The property was very spacious and comfortable, and well equipped with everything you would need. There was lots of information about local places of interest, and the house is located in a lovely spot, close to some wondeful Italian countryside. A car is essential.
Overall, a very enjoyable vist to a part of Italy I hadn't visited before.
Total delight and satisfaction
I stayed for a week in May with 3 friends. The house is lovely - easy on the eye, beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped. The outside terrace and garden is delightful with glorious views over the countryside. The local area is full of interest from wonderful art and quaint towns and villages to the most beautiful countryside via gastronomic delights.
On top of this Rob and Jame make wonderfu hosts and Rob's tour of the local town was a highlight,
Casa Tersalle is to be highly recommended.
Slice of paradise...
We spent a week at Casa Tersalle and couldn't get enough! There is so much to see and do and Rob & Jane knew all the very best spots.
After busy days exploring the wonders of the region we relaxed and soaked up the comforts of Casa Tersalle. Rob & Jane had thought of everything which made us feel very much at home.
We can't wait until our next visit and would highly recommend this property to all.

Amazing rural holiday experience!
Fantastic views, and a large comfortable apartment. Rob and Jane were wonderful hosts who went out of their way to make my stay a pleasure. A wonderful rural setting, close to some stunning Italian villages. Highly recommended!
Fantastic old italian farmhouse, fully restored, in the heart of Umbria. The views were absolutely breathtaking, Both Rob and Naomi were very friendly, relaxed and knowledgable. Rob in particular tells a great story... I have returned twice and will do so as often as possible, this is one of the most peaceful places I have ever been to, and coming from NZ I have seen a few. The roast suckling piglet they serve at the market in nearby Citta de Castello alone makes this a must do for all with a love a food!

Paradise in Umbria
We stayed at Casa Tersalle for a week last spring. It was absolutely wonderful and delightful. Quiet, peaceful and marvellous company. We went to many of the local towns to explore and even did a day trip by train to Firenze. The fields of wheat with a sprinkling of wild poppies during the day and the fireflys at night were lovely to see. We would highly recommend Casa Tersalle as a holiday destination.
A treasured memory of Italy
We had a wonderful time staying at Casa Tersalle.
Its central location meant we were able to visit many
different places, from pretty little villages to the
wonders of Rome and Florence as well as a wide range
of other locations. Rob and Jane directed us to some
wonderful restaurants - the food around the area was
amazing. They were fantastic hosts, warm and
welcoming and with a wealth of local knowledge,
especially evident when Rob acted as our tour guide
around Rome and Assisi. The cottage was well equipped
and in such a tranquil picturesque part of Italy. We
would love to return some day.
A wonderful week in Italy
Everything about my stay in Casa Tersalle was perfect; the area, the accommodation, the food, the weather and the way Rob and Jane made us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, including organising an early morning walk.
Casa Tersalle is hidden away in the beautiful Umbria countryside, but leave your car in Arrezzo or Cita di Castella and you are an hour's train ride from Firenze or Perugia.
If you have an interest in architecture, beautiful scenery and good food this is the perfect place to be; I loved everything about being there.
A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside
We loved our 2 weeks at Casa Tersalle. It was such a big house and simple in decor which made it feel very Italian. All the rooms looked out over the beautiful countryside. The owners Jane and Rob were away for the first week of our stay but they made every effort to ensure we got there safely and had a lovely basket of goodies waiting for us. It was very welcoming. The beds were really comfortable and the bathroom large and modern with a bath which was nice. The location was just what we had hoped for. You do need a car but that gives you the opportunity to explore all the wonderful medieval towns and beautiful countryside.
We loved the local grocery store in Monterchi and the owners became like family ... maybe because we bought so much food and wine !!
Rob and Jane were so friendly and helpful and were great at communicating with us during the booking process and beyond.
We are already planning our next holiday at Casa Tesalle. It is wonderful value for money, especially if you come with a large group. I think the only thing I would suggest is an electric jug would have been great as we had to watch the kettle all the time on the gas stove. Everything else was provided and was beyond our expectations. Staying at Casa Tersalle was one of the highlights of our 2 months travelling in Italy, Austria, Scotland and England.

A great rural retreat in splendid Umbrian
countryside. Jane and Rob made us very welcome into
their old farmhouse which was fitted out for guests
without spoiling the character of the place. Being
mid summer it was very hot but we were able to eat
out on their terrace enjoying the superb views. The
local town of Monterchi has many fascinating corners
as do the other settlement nearby - all well worth
visiting. Not a place for those looking for night
life but excellent if you just want to chill out and
absorb the local scene.
Wonderful hosts with excellent information and helpful literature on surrounding areas and how to best get there.English/Italian speaking was a godsend in a time of need. Rob and Jane are a really lovely couple and on hand to assist in every way. Lovely countryside, with major towns mostly within a 2 hour drive in all directions You do need a car as there is no public transport to/from the village. Accommodation is simple country italian, a little dark, but comfortable. (with animals possibly kept next door during the winter, but the 'farm smell' was outside only) The essence of rural Italian living.

Had a great week, using Casa Tersalle as our base, nice and central, to the touristy spots, but lovely and quiet to soak up the ambience of Umbria/Tuscany. Have recommended the place to famiily and friends.Would love to have stayed longer, but time did not permit.
