Description

Overview: "Cuach Cottage" a 1500 sq. ft. home located in the heart of Connemara, County Galway, 4 Kilometers from the renowned capital town of Clifden. It is also situated on "The Wild Atlantic Way. "

We are rated "Superhosts"

The cottage has a free WI- FI system installed which offers 750 GB. We also have an excellent 5 G mobile signal in the cottage.

Cuach " stands on 4 acres of natural terrain / moorland and is located on the " Old Bog Road ", Castle Demesne, Beaghcauneen, Clifden. We are right in the center of a Specially Protected Area, bordering on Connemara National Park.

Home of the Fox, Badger, Otter, Cormorant. Rare flora and fauna can also be identified here. NB Cuckoo, ie. " Cuach " arrives in April enjoy his song!

Our holiday home is approached by a 100 mtr. pebbled driveway, leading to a classic country style 1/2 door, no chickens though, just sheep and Connemara ponies alongside. There is ample parking space. We also have a freshwater brook running alongside the cottage, good fishing here for Trout and Salmon in season. A fishing rod is provided for the aspiring angler !!

Outdoor dining is provided along with a large Weber BBQ. Seating for 8 , to the rear of the cottage and again seating for 6 to the front. The choice is yours.

Sunny to the front in the mornings and to the rear in the afternoon & evenings. At riverside there is also located a private bench where one can sit and sketch or indeed just totally relax and enjoy the sounds of nature and the babbling brook running alongside.

Liam & Marian.

Accommodation.

Our holiday home has three bedrooms and sleeps 5 in comfort, two doubles and one single. The main bed is 4 ft, 6 ins, second 4 ft, and third 3 ft. Bed linen is the finest Egyptian cotton. The sitting room area is very spacious with traditional vaulted ceiling. Here one can relax in front of a turf burning stove, turf supplied. The dining table seats 6 in comfort. The views from our Studio Room are outstanding, spanning vista of 180 degrees. Vaulted Cathedral Roofs make for a very bright, airy and relaxing space. You can sketch fro

Pm here under natural light, nature watch, have a snooze, or just chill out with a fine glass of wine !! The Kitchen is completely fitted out with all modern facilities, whilst the entrance porch is large & accommodating. A redesigned Utility Room with fridge / freezer, dishwasher, washing machine etc. is just completed for 2023. Finally, the bathroom has everything one could need with WC, shower / bath etc. Enjoy !!

Interior Decor.

The interior has a French touch without losing any of it's local character. All main cottage windows have for example interior handmade three sectioned wooden shutters, complete with the finest linen and lace curtaining, attention to detail!

Interior exposed timber flooring, fully insulated, traditionally nailed, with hand woven scatter rugs complete the picture.

Building services.

Our ECO home is maintained in spotless condition. The heating system is a newly installed oil fired boiler to radiators with total zoned control over hot water and space heating. Ample hot water at the touch of a switch.

There is also a 12 KW log burning stove in the sitting room. Logs & turf are supplied ie. [ Starter Pack] . The cottage is very snug on a chilly evening!! Water is from our own well. This is a very desirable feature when considering a rental property in Connemara !!

Exterior.

Outside the views are stunning, really have to be seen to be believed. The cottage has a fresh water river running alongside stocked with Trout and Salmon. If the Otter doesn't get there first you are in with a chance!!! Couldn't catch the blighters myself though. The home stands on 4 acres of well fenced gardens.

Fishing Permits: Trout: €10.00 / day, children under 16 free on lakes.

Fishing Licence: Salmon: €25.00 / day, € 80.00 / week. All available to purchase from Stanleys in Clifden.

Al Fresco Dining: To the rear of the cottage is a 6 seater dining set with charcoal burning Weber solid fuel BBQ. This area is raised and fenced for safety. All areas traditionally pebbled for that old world effect ! To the front of the cottage is a 6 seater dining bench. Takes best advantage of the sunny aspect in the early daytime. Spoilt for choice !

Location.- H71-NX48

Beaghcauneen is the local area name and there are just a few families living here. Clifden being 4 K away is an easy cycle / walk, as are most other areas of interest. There is an abundance of fine eateries in the town and immediate surrounding areas. Our cottage location is locally referred to as being within "The Golden Circle" because of it's stunning beauty and appeal. Once visited people return again and again some becoming life long visitors and indeed close friends.

Directions.

From Galway City take the N59 Clifden road and once on this road it is an easy and very enjoyable 60 minute drive to your destination. Passing through Oughterard, consider visiting "Quite Man Bridge" an original set from "The Quiet Man", John Wayne & Maureen O'Hara! Arriving in Clifden take the Ballyconneely Road, after 3 K branch off left, sign posted Cashel, to The Old Bog Road and then progress for 1 K & "Cuach Cottage" is last dwelling on your left.

Cycling.

New cycleways have recently been completed by Galway County Council and there are routes with varying degrees of difficulty. Bicycles are available in the town from a number of hire shops and we would encourage visitors to have a go, you miss out on so much whilst driving.

Things to do.

Visit Ballynahinch Castle, Cashel House Hotel, Kylemore Abbey, Abbeyglen Castle Hotel, Killary Harbour, Connemara Golf Links, Ashford Castle etc. Safe Blue Flag beaches abound, , Dog's Bay, Gurteen, Coral Strand, Mannin etc. or just go shrimping for the day!

Close by at Cleggan you can book the ferry and visit Inishbofin Island. Spend some time there and really chill out.

Dining.

Dining out / in is a delightful experience, the very freshest of locally caught seafood is always available. You might even bump into " Feisty " who would willingly supply you with fresh lobster, usually FREE !! A truly wonderful home cooking experience, [ recipe, contact number and cooking instructions in kitchen press ] enjoy !! There are many great restaurants in the immediate area, Guy's on The Square being one of them. Mitchell's Restaurant located on The Square is indeed fine dining and really merits a visit.

Evening entertainment:

Try Lowry's, EJ's or Guy's all located around " The Square " for a nice relaxing drink with local musicians playing in season. These proprietors are really friendly and welcoming to all visitors. A great night out for everyone guaranteed.

Out and about.

Leaving our cottage, turn immediately left and you are now on the "Old Bog Road", for ten Kilometers there isn't a dwelling in sight just Connemara blanket bog dotted with lakes full of fish and landscape that will take your breath away. On to Roundstone for a chat, and some crab claws, all washed down wi

th a pint of Guinness naturally !!. Try The Roundstone House Hotel, known locally as Vaughans, for lunch or evening dining. Please don't drink and drive! Bicycles are available locally for hire in Clifden.

A truly memorable holiday awaits the visitor to this area, of course we would like you to stay in our accommodation, but if not please do visit Ireland and enjoy anyway,

Liam & Marian Young.
