New York CityHighest Recommendation!
Left on 08/27/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We were dreaming of a cabin in the woods for a week-long get-away, and we found it with Baby Bear! Baby Bear is in such a beautiful and well-appointed area that we ended up spending most of our week at the cabin or nearby. We actually considered staying closer to ashville during our planning process, but I'm so glad we didn't! We couldn't have found an area as beautiful as Fines Creek, and the properties we considered were nowhere near as lovely as Baby Bear.
Baby Bear manages to retain the charm of a 1920s cabin, despite being fully-renovated within the past decade. Lovingly-chosen antiques and handmade quilts contribute to the feeling of being back in time, but guests still enjoy great water pressure and a modern kitchen. The cabin includes a comfy four-poster bed, a back patio and grill, a fireplace, a dvd player, and a cozy couch with afghan. There's also a wonderful cross breeze moving between the front and back screen doors.
Every morning, we enjoyed breakfast on the cabin's front porch gazing at the stunning view of the mountains and breathing in the fresh air. We hiked the ridge trail connected to the property, as well as part of the appalachian Trail a short drive away. We made friends with the proprietor of the area's General Store, and attended a Bluegrass Festival down the road. We drove twenty minutes into Waterville for a Farmer's Market and a great restaurant meal, and spent a day following the Blue Ridge Trail into ashville.
Also notable, we were warmly welcomed by the proprietors of Baby Bear. They greeted us with a basket of crackers and honey made on the property, and even slipped us a little moonshine (legal, if you're not handing over cash for it). We also had an unexpected - and memorable - host in the form of an enthusiastic brown labrador who greeted us mornings with wagging tail at our front door.
As I indicated in the title, I cannot recommend Baby Bear enough! It is a truly memorable, country get-away.Response from Carolina Mornings - 09/09/2012

The cabin itself is beautiful and rustic but it seemed to be infested with bugs.
This made our stat uncomfortable. Our plan was to just enjoy staying in the
Cabin away from the hustle and bustle of life. The cabin was also not cleaned
To our liking. It was dusty in a lot of areas. I have no plans of returning to this
Cabin.Response from Carolina Mornings - 07/28/2012

Baby Bear was very nice. Really clean and had everything we needed for our weekend. The location of the compound was great! It was remote. The only negative about the set up was the closeness of other cabins to Baby Bear. To be honest i wanted a location where if i wanted to go on the porch naked, i would not have to worry about someone walking by. Lol! I hope that statement was not too direct.

Went to Baby Bear, and it was a very nice setting and very quaint. But it's really out in the middle of nowhere, which was not ideal for me. (Little or no phone service, chickens walking around...) If you like quiet, and a cool little place in the mountains, it's very nice, but not for a city boy.

We decided to do something different this year aside from the normal beach vacation. Was a great decision! Great cabin with plenty of beautiful views, plenty of vacation attractions. Was an all around wonderful experience. Getting away from the faster pace made us slow down and enjoy life.

Quiet, fun, relaxing, friendly, clean, full amenities for a cabin...chance to meet a friendly dog, a few cats, chickens, cows maybe an opossum if you want to get away from city life...everything I was looking for. Good if you like the country away from a town. Log fires inside and out are great options. Grills good too.
