Love Sandcastles but not this condo

Left on 07/02/2012 for a stay in June 2012

The Sandcastles complex is in a good location, comfortable, secure and right on the beach. It has tennis courts, the pool is large and there is a handy shower to use when coming off the beach. This was our first time in unit 700 but the third time at Sandcastles. This condo was in the worse shape of the three we've stayed at. It is pretty beat up and is in need of furniture updating, new tile in the shower and overall bringing it into this century. The decor is a mix of the 70's and the beach. We did have a good laugh at that. The couch and recliner are pleather which is cracked and the TV is large but very, very old. The kitchen chairs looked like they had padding but they didn't and were too hard to sit on for very long. The blinds on the sliding glass doors didn't open very well but we find that with most beach condos because renters do not take care of them. There are two balconies. One faces the parking lot and street which we didn't use and the other is a side view of the ocean. We did spend time on the side balcony which had comfortable furniture and is ocean view but this unit is the farthest from the beach. The view is more of the neighboring parking lots and building tops which was very disappointing. Beach towels were supplied but bath towels and washclothes were minimal. Luckily, we had some of our own. This condo is very lived in. The door frames were pretty chewed up and the whole place needs painted.

On the good side, the unit was quiet and the kitchen supplies were stocked more than most condos we've been in. They were not the best quality and not much matched, but they were there nonetheless. There is a tile floor throughout which was in good shape. If you are there to see a launch, the side balcony is a good spot for it. There are beach chairs, cooler and other beach items in the closet for renters use.

It seems the owners clean the condo themselves because the paperwork asked the renter to wash the towels & sheets before they leave or at least start them so laundry products are supplied. We've been staying in vacation condos for 20+ years and have never been asked to do that so we thought that was odd.

I realized when we got there we hadn't received the security code to get into the condo. I did get it promptly upon calling the owner. Another code is needed for the elevator which I got from a reluctant renter so make sure you get them before arriving.

The price for this unit was similar to others but was not worth it. There are many units at Sandcastles so we would choose a different one next time or go back to one of the other two we liked much better.

      Hello Peggy,
I wish we could please everyone but sometimes that is just not possible.

      1. You were emailed all access documents (including elevator codes) on 5-21-2012 which was a full month before you arrived to visit with us. If our access and rules letters did not find their way to your Inbox you should have called immediately and we would have resent email or redirected. As it was, I answered your late evening call the minute you arrived at The Sandcastles and again provided you with all required information. Poor planning on your part.
      2. With all due respect, our condo is not beat up. Check any or all of our other reviews and you will see that you alone stand with your outrageous opinions. The condo is modern and fresh, as are the fabulous views that are unique and specific.
      3. We ask our visitors to start laundry when checking out. That is why we furnish laundry facilities and linens and beach towels. This is not a cheap hotel and I don't appreciate the condition you left our condo in.
      4. As for the kitchen chairs being hard? Not even sure how to address your complaint. There is a beautiful health club just across the street that may help you there.

      Fine place to vacation.

Left on 04/19/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Unit 700 was clean and had all the basics for a comfortable week of vacation. The west and north-facing views are as advertised with miles of sightline up the beach toward the cape. Steven returned our deposit promptly after our stay.

Fixtures and furnishings are adequate and I appreciated the opportunity to save some money, as Unit 700 leases for less than many other units at Sandcastles with similar size and views. The air conditioner did not adequately cool the unit during my stay but we had nice cross breezes for most of the week. I bought a fan for each bedroom to finish the job of staying cool at night (it was a warm week in the 80s).

Unit 700 is just fine for a week of vacation but nicer units are available in Sandcastles if you want to spend more.

Thanks Jeff, I am glad you enjoyed your stay.

      Regarding the Air Conditioning -
Both the Compressor and Air Handler are less than two years old.
I clean and maintain system every 30 days on schedule.
I sent the installer down immediately upon your departure. He left me invoice for $55.00, called me to say the unit is optimal and cooling perfectly.

The problem is with leaving the dual balconies and sliders open while the AC is trying to cool. That is not possible, especially on top floor exposed on 3 sides. I can only hope other visitors read this response and our condo welcome letters.

      Warm regards,
      Steven

Happy with Unit 700 at Sandcastles Resort

Left on 05/22/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We stayed in this condo at the end of april, beginning of May when we were visiting family for a reunion of sorts. This condo is in a great location, right on the beach, and not far from anything in Cocoa Beach. It is an end unit on the 7th (Top) floor, which means it is above all of the other buildings nearby, and it has two balconies and windows on three sides. An inner unit has windows on two sides and only one balcony. It is very quiet because you don’t have people walking by all the time to go to the elevator. The view is very nice and we would have had a great spot for the shuttle launch if it had gone off as planned. The main balcony and master bedroom face north toward Cape Canaveral and have a nice ocean view including the sunrise in the morning. The side balcony faces west toward the mainland and the Banana River for a beautiful sunset. The front faces the courtyard and overlooks the pool.
There are grocery stores and plenty of shopping nearby and on Merritt Island, though the Wal-Mart did not show up on my GPS. There are also many places to eat/snack. We walked down the beach to the South and ate at a place on the beach called Coconuts. Another place to try is The Sunset Café on Rt. 520. We had a nice lunch there, but we tried to go there for dinner on a Friday night and it was packed.
The inside of the condo was comfortable and had pretty much everything you would expect or need. Much better than a hotel when you consider that you have two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a laundry room. Something to check though is to make sure the dishes are clean before you plan to use them because if the previous occupants were not careful to check before they put them away, you may be caught off guard. The main living area was large enough for everyone and with six people we didn’t feel crowded. The master bedroom was large and had a King size bed. The second bedroom had two double beds. The master bathroom is small but having two bathrooms makes a big difference. There were also plenty of chairs and a table on each balcony which made the living area even bigger. It was also nice to eat breakfast on in the morning. There was a nice selection of beach chairs, toys, etc. in the hall closet so check it out before you buy anything for the beach.
Make sure you have the keys with you whenever you go out because you need them whenever you go to the beach or pool to get in or out again. And it’s a long trip back up to the room again.
One of the previous reviews said it was dated and the bedding seemed a little worn, which may be true but everything was clean, and that is what I would be more concerned with. You are renting the condo as a place to gather and rest when you are not on the beach, in the pool, or out site-seeing. Does it matter if the decor isn’t current? The owner was easy to work with and the security deposit was returned by mail about two weeks later. We had a great time and will consider staying here again the next time we are in Cocoa Beach.

Beautiful property on a beautiful beach

Left on 05/13/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Sandcastles is a welcoming sight; lush landscaping perfectly manicured, an immaculate pool and a quiet stretch of white, soft sand. (Although it was Easter weekend, the beach wasn't crowded.) We had our breakfast on one of the two ocean view balconies each day within sight of the cruise ships & Cape Canaveral. Very family friendly & central. Some of us went to Disney for the day & some of us went shopping nearby to get a break from the sun. We had everything we needed at the condo. Steven was very accommodating & communicative. Upgraded linens & towels would be a bonus. We had wonderful weather & felt fortunate that the arrangements and the condo worked out so well.

We enjoyed the condo very much--it suited us well

Left on 01/08/2011 for a stay in November 2010

We loved it, but thought it was truly oceanfront--our condo actually had a side view of the ocean not front view. But it is on the top floor which was very sweet! It was appointed very nicely too complete with beach chairs and boogie boards.
We recieved our entire deposit back as stated in the contract and Steve was available to answer any of our inquiries!

Left on 01/08/2011 for a stay in December 2010

The condo was a nice anchor place between Orlando and Delray Beach, Florida and it allowed us plenty of space to accomodate friends and family members.

Overall it was clean and tidy and well kept. The balcony views were terrific. Would probably be a good idea to have a hair blow dryer on hand and think about updating some of the decor as it is beginning to look a bit dated.

Steven was excellent and patient to work with and we would certainly consider staying at this condo should we be traveling in the area in the future.

Very few condos in Cocoa Beach offer a view of the sunset, as well as the sunrise. This one has a panoramic view of both. It is also spacious, and very quiet. The property has a beautiful pool and spa, and we were often alone when we enjoyed it. It's also very convenient to everything in and around Cocoa Beach, including a day trip to the Kennedy Space Center.

Stayed here while attending a baseball tournament with our son and his friends. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need. Loved the two balconies that provided lots of light. It was very convenient to have two full baths and a washer and dryer. Condo is furthest from the elevator, but is quiet and shopping carts were available to carry your things. Only things to complain about were that the beach accessories need to be weeded through and thrown away and the pool was way too hot to swim in.
