Additional Location Information
Vine Ridge sits within a 20 minute walk or 10 minute drive of the amazing village of Comares, which unspoilt, historic and amazing to walk around.
Comares is a beautiful Andalucian whitewashed village (pueblo blanco) perched high in the mountains of Malaga Province, Spain. Comares is actually one of the highest altitude pueblo blancos in the whole of Spain, with spectacular views for many miles in every direction from its position on a rocky crag. The village is breath-taking and beautiful, and to date, is still far from the beaten paths of tourists, allowing it to retain its peaceful, undeniably Andalucian atmosphere which makes Comares villas such a complete delight to visit.
Things to do on holiday in Comares, Spain
Walking through the cobbled streets of the village is a delight. Not only is there a timeless, peaceful atmosphere throughout, but you can take a sub-conscious history lesson as you walk. The coloured ceramic tiles which decorate the village tell the story of Comares’ place in Spanish history since the 3rd century BC. The remaining ruins of the huge Moors fortress of Comares tells a little of the story itself, but there is little remaining.
There are a handful of fantastic bars in Comares, a couple of exceptional restaurants and many doorstep stalls selling local wine, raisins, almonds, olives, honey and cheese. The local produce is mouth watering, and the little doorstep shops make cooking in a self catering Comares villa or apartment an absolute delight. During the St Hilaire de Poitiers festival from the 25th – 27th August each year, Comares springs into life, transforming form a sleepy, sun-drenched village to become a haven of activity, music, dance and food.
Comares lies just outside the Malaga Mountains Nature Park, a wonderful area of mountains, river valleys and thick forests awash with wildlife. The park is a fantastic place to walk and climb, surrounded by some of the finest views to be found across Andalucia, and in amongst the indigenous wildlife of the region.
Places to visit on holiday in Comares, Spain
Comares is located 25km inland from the beaches of Torre del Mar, and just 35km from Malaga. These are very popular beach resorts, offering stunning expanses of soft sand, endless water sports facilities, evening entertainment and excellent restaurants, as well as a surprising number of important historical monuments, especially in the old city of Malaga. If the peace, tranquillity and beauty of taking a holiday home in Comares get too much, the fast pace of beach life is only a short drive away.
Weather in Comares, Spain
The weather is very reliable in this part of Spain. You can almost guarantee a week of stunning sunshine and midday temperatures in the high 30’s (°C) during June, July and August, and you would be very unlucky to get a week of bad weather at any time between April and October. Even in winter, monthly temperatures average almost 15˚C, meaning that there is never a bad time to be relaxing in at Vine Ridge.
You can be happily settled into Vine Ridge within an hour of leaving Malaga Airport (AGP), or only 90 minutes from Granada Airport.

I'm not sure words can adequately describe our stay at Vine Ridge. We took the studio apartment for a week, with a view to getting away from the masses, exploring the area a little and ultimately - relaxing. After a stressful few months, compounded by the miserable British weather, we were both in need of complete relaxation and a little bit of milder weather. That is exactly what we got.
The e-mailed directions were clear and easy to follow, the steep winding track from main to house...exhilarating! The studio was clean, well looked after and perfectly equipped (even down to the all important bottle cooler already in the freezer). The welcome pack was very much appreciated, more so because we arrived on a Sunday, when all the shops are closed. Jacqui and David were fantastic, warm and friendly hosts throughout our stay and we loved our daily visits from 'the boys'. Comares is a steadily inclined, but not too difficult, 20 minute walk, and as we discovered, a swifter stumble home in the dark, but provides a healthy choice of bars, restaurants and a supermarket for essentials. The local coastline is roughly 30-40 minutes drive and in the opposite direction you'll find a stunning lake and drives through the winding Spanish hills to various little towns serving lovely coffee. The views at Vine Ridge are truly astounding and we spent most of our days sitting in the mild March sun trying to concentrate on our books but being constantly distracted by the ever changing vista, ranging from Grenada to Malaga coast. No mean feat given that I never stay still for long!
This was the first holiday one of our party had managed in several years due to work and family commitments, so relaxation was very much part of the remit and Ridge View did not disappoint. Relaxation is positively impossible to avoid there! I have no doubt that we will return and my daughter and I have already discussed a booking for next year. I was genuinely sad to leave Vine Ridge behind.
If you ever need a place to disappear, this is it.Response from David and Jacqui Cullimore - 04/22/2013

What a great review from a lovely couple, pretty much sums up what Vine Ridge has to offer and often a guests agenda goes out of the window once the view stops them in their tracks, thank you as per usual to all our valued guests and I look forward to meeting more members of this lovely family.

Stayed there over X-mas in 2010. Even few weather surprises couldn't spoil our holidays. Spacious accomodation, very helpful and always-smiling hosts. Short walking distance to Comares, marvellously perched on the top of the hill. Views from the rooms magnificent. Flexible prices, attractive bonus offer for recommending this place to your friends after staying.
Airport transfers provided, however for people wanting to discover more andalucia having a car is strongly advised.
Access track from the main road not for the fainthearted( I enjoyed it a lot!).
Wherever you've chosen to pamper at the poolside or just use this place as a base for walking, hiking or driving around it has everything you may need.Response from David and Jacqui Cullimore - 02/09/2012

Great guests, who made the most of the weather closing in and fully enjoyed the facilities, views and the wonder of Comares, a pleasure to have around and very unlucky with the weather, but if you can smile during the rain you will simply love the sun during the spring , summer and autumn, many thanks as usual to all our guests.

We drove down from the north over a couple of days and when we arrived we found Vine Ridge to be the destination we had hoped for. The location is breathtaking and photographs don't do it justice. Relaxing by the pool during the heat of the day, enjoying a glass of wine in the warm breeze as the moon rises over the distant sea, the valley below filled with the sound of crickets; just superb.
The apartment was very comfortable with everything we needed. We could eat breakfast looking out at the mountains miles across the valley.
After a day or two's rest we were then easily able to drive out to Malaga to catch some flamenco, get down to the coast, visit the alhambra in Granada, or just make our way up to pretty Comares for tapas.
David and Jaqui are welcoming and friendly and they helped make Vine Ridge a great place to experience what andalucia has to offer, whether relaxing and taking in the sun and the views, or visiting some of the many attractions of the area. Thanks to you both.

Another lovely couple and often the remark is that photographs do not do the views justice, our website is having photographs added all the time but I don't think we will ever really capture the dimension and depth of the amazing views which help make Vine Ridge so special.
They used the location to relax and explore, exactly as most guest do but for some just sitting by the pool is enough in the summer months and looking into the horizon.
Many thanks as usual, we appreciate feedback and of course happy guests. -

Our mission was to find a retreat where we were as far away as possible from the typical English themed resorts, somewhere we could enjoy typically Spanish Cuisine, take in the vast splendour of the Spanish Country side but above relax in absolute peace and quite. Did we achieve it? We most certainly did!! Vine Ridge is nothing short of perfect, David & Jackie are the perfect hosts, although I was a little disappointed that they wouldn't allow me to bring Bruno the dog home with me (despite my efforts to hide him in my bag's). Proof that I love it as much as I say I do? We've booked to return next year with my parents. Counting down the days. Can't wait to see you Brunster!!

A great review from lovely guests, Chris had rang me rather than just e.mail so he could explain his requirements and it was fantastic that we ticked all the boxes, they are now starting to become regular guests with more bookings and recommendations and this is exactly what we are aiming to achieve. Many thanks as usual.

What they haven't mentioned about this property
Ray and Jill London Uk
Review Submitted: November 3, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
Jill and Ray - London mid October 2009. No reviewer has mentioned our feeling of utter disbelief at the views from our terrace - still can't grasp that we were looking almost 1 mile down the slope of a steep (but safe) valley to 3 tiny hamlets set along a river bed below us. Yet straight across that valley and upwards was an enormous mountain range about 20 miles away stretching from left to right, formed by the silhouettes of sleeping giants. Far away to the right is a glimpse of the Mediterranean.
We seriously considered spending the whole week, just sitting and looking - absolute magic for the soul.
The trek up to Comares was about 30 mins for us aged 55+ and not too fit, a few stops on the way sorted that out. Coming down laden with 6 litres of alhambra beer, wine, cheese, crusty Spanish bread and Serrano ham was fine so long as you took care on the goat track. Watch out for the goats though, they drive on the right.
Bars and restaurants all available up in the town along with a small Coviran store which appeared to sell a bit of almost everything.
Walking was good in the area, most starting up at Comares, and kept us amused for days - especially the olive tree grotto on the green walk.
But it was essentially the views from our studio, and the peace and quiet that got us. Oh and Woody and Charlie and Bruno, can't forget you guys.
If any holiday maker wants a doggy guide around the Comares walks, borrow a lead and take the dogs with you - very friendly and great fun
and regarding the score out of 5, why the 4 - well nowhere is perfect, is it?
Have had 2 stays at Vine Ridge since, the review still holds good.Response from David and Jacqui Cullimore - 12/15/2011

We found "Vine Ridge Studio" by a recommendation - always the best way. It is exactly as described here and is a genuine understated paradise for a short or long stay. Unbeatable for the views alone but it is so easy to get to from the airport. It is completely peaceful and rural, yet a half hour takes you to the shops or the coast, and there's small villages, shops restaurants, markets etc even nearer. It's the best value break we've taken and we take lots. Thanks to David, Jackie and family for their attention to detail, welcome and help throughout.
We could go on and on but a visit will confirm it all
Many thanksResponse from David and Jacqui Cullimore - 12/15/2011
