New York CitySpectacular villa rental set among prosecco vineyards!
Left on 04/05/2013 for a stay in September 2011
This is a wonderful villa. Pictures do not do it justice. It is located in the midst of a vineyard with olive trees around the house. the view across the small valley is magical, while the villa is on a dirt road, the traffic on the road is virtually non exigent. Every amenity is available from a gourmet kitchen to a Mac computer and wifi to a movie theater and training equipment. Even the air conditioning is remarkable being delivered through pipes in the floor. The pool is very beautiful!
Veneto is also a wonderful place to spend a week or two. We were in Cortina dampezza in 75 minutes, Venice in under an hour and asolo in 30 minutes and there's Verona, Padua and Treviso, etc. Forget Tuscany. Try Veneto and there is no better place to stay than in this villa.
The immediate neighborhood ot the villa is very lovely. A walk down the road or through the vineyards revelas wonderful views across nearby vineyards and olive groves with the Dolomites in the distance. Take a walk as the sun sets and bring a camera.
While we were at the villa, the cleaning woman arrived at 745 each morning. we asked the owner if she could come later and it was immediately changed. The owner gave us the clear impression that she would go out of her way to do anything she could to make our stay better. She gave us a list of nearby restaurants, most of which we tried and enjoyed. The Friday market in Conegliano was a disappointment, mostly inexpensive clothing so I don't recommend it. We loved the lunch at Villa Cipriani in asolo, a 30 minute drive from the villa. The Dolomites are a must, make sure you take the hairpin turns they are fun!
The owners are so nice! Jeanette handles the rental and you will meet her when you arrive. I will forever associate his beautiful singing with this beautiful villa! bring home a CD and the memories will flood back to you.
the only drawback is we went over the allotted 200 kw per were surprised with the cost of electricity, 300 euro!

Arthur S
Brownsville, Vermontlovely spot, great views, troublesome property manager/owner
Left on 01/25/2013 for a stay in August 2012
we stayed here with our extended family for a week as we celebrated our 50th anniversary. idyllic spot with wonderful views in the midst of a vineyard. but we had trouble with appliances that worked poorly, bedrooms that were minimal except for the master suite, plumbing that backed up, a pool that worked erratically and was plagued by bees/hornets which stung our grandchildren; and shakey but costly electrical service. the owner/manager was rather disagreeable and gave rise to misunderstandings, and to souring our experience.
we would suggest caution in booking this villa, and getting everything very clear in writing up front.Response from Papavero Villa Rentals - 04/05/2013
Manager
This guest did not book with our agency nor did he book directly through the owner. I am sorry Arthur had a bad experience. I have rented this villa on many occasions and have had very happy guests. I did call the owner to see what happened, and after a long discussion with her feel that it was a series of misunderstandings. having no history with this guest, I asked the owner to address his concerns.
TROUBLE WITH APPLIANCES THAT WORKED POORLY
The villa and appliances are only three years old and everything is in good working order. There was a power outage that tripped the breaker so for a while the appliances were not working until they noticed no ice maker, and called the owner. She tells me she ran over to the villa as soon as they called and had to flip the breaker.
Americans don’t realize that there is a major difference when operating Italian appliances; they tend to work longer and slower than US appliances to conserve electricity and water. The normal wash cycle of a washing machine is two hours, for some people they are not used to this and think the washing machine is broken but it was working normally.
PLUMBING THAT BACKED UP the drain in the shower was clogged with the guests’ long hair. It was removed and the drain worked fine from then on.
PLAGUED BY BEES/HORNETS WHICH STUNG OUR GRANDCHILDREN It was a dry summer and the bees and wasps were coming to the pool for water. They must tell all the other bees they’ve found a water supply because we had to keep spraying every day and left spray at the villa. This sometimes happens when you are in the middle of the countryside and you cannot predict that you will have a problem with bugs, it is based on a wet or dry season and this year was very dry.
SHAKY AND COSTLY ELECTICAL SERVICE: The house has a state of the art conservation style heating and cooling system that is set by the heating and air conditioning person for summer and winter. We have a sign asking guests not to touch the thermostats as it can damage the system. Mr. Stineberg accidentally changed the thermostat from summer cooling to winter heating. The thermostat does not run by a normal thermostat, but is a setting the professional heating and air conditioning technician sets it at. So there is no way to tell that he switched from summer to winter. The technician was called to the house and that is how we realized it. Italy buys all of their electricity and it is very costly. Our contract states that electricity over 200 kw is payable directly to the owner. I don’t know if Arthur was not informed of the extra cost for electricity by via villas agency
POOL WAS ERRATIC: Arthur turned off the main switch of the pool and all of the timers and then could not turn it back on when he needed to. I had to call the pool technician to get it back up and running.
BEDROOMS THAT WERE MINIMAL EXCEPT FOR THE MASTER SUITE
Like most homes, not all bedrooms are alike and I am sorry he felt they were minimal. Most guests don’t want a lot of personal items in the bedrooms so we remove them during the renting season.
I am truly sorry that Arthur was not happy with the house. I built this home for my personal vacation home and want my guests to enjoy it as much as I do. It was a difficult week for both of us and I am so sorry he was unhappy.
