Additional Location Information
Coopers Beach is located in Doubtless Bay in far north New Zealand. Doubtless Bay has a warm sub-tropical climate, over 70km of unspoilt coastline and an abundance of safe people free beaches. These range from beautiful white sands to surf beaches and rocky bays.
Access to Coopers Beach, Doubtless Bay can be by road north from Auckland (4 hour drive covering 300km) or by regular Air New Zealand flights from Auckland to the nearby Kerikeri airport where rental cars can be booked.
The permanent population in the environs of Doubtless Bay is less than 4000 people. The settlements of Mangonui and Coopers Beach evoke a village atmosphere with craft shops, cafes and interesting historic walks.
Doubtless Bay is within easy driving distance of Cape Reinga (the very top of New Zealand), magnificient Kauri forests and two of New Zealand's best golf courses - Kauri Cliffs and Carrington. Fishing charters can be booked at the local information centre and there are many interesting day walks in and around the area. Local artists operate from their own studios. Best of all visitors to Doubtless Bay can just enjoy a laid-back lifestyle in one of New Zealand's most pleasant climates.

We only stayed two nights. We wish we could have stayed longer. Beautiful surroundings, lovely cottage, awesome views. Everything we needed was provided for in our cottage.
Thankyou Bruce. We will be back. And we will be bringing friends, and we will be staying much, much longer. -

We returned to this delightful spot for our third stay . We had just returned from a rather exhausting and demanding 2 weeks of cruising around the North Island of New Zealand and really needed to recharge. The peace, tranquility and general restorative nature of this totally delightful and completely comfortable place did its magic yet again .
Such a gorgeous place. -

Auckland NZSecond Stay Even Better Than The First!
Left on 02/26/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We have never stayed in such a peaceful, relaxing, comfortable and scenic location as Sanctuary In The Cove before and this is why we are back for the second time in 13 months. We syayed for 7 nights this time and it still didn't really seem long enough.
When you drive through the gates of this property you feel like you have left all the problems of the world behind and when you walk across the lawn of the cottage you have booked and see the mown lawn end at the waters edge of lovely Chuck's Cove, you realise you are somewhere special. The owner's accommodation and the other cottage are distant and you feel like you own a property on your own piece of absolute waterfront land.
The cove is more rocky than sandy and has a wilderness feel to it and for that reason, is not totally suited for swimming, but in saying that, you can swim in front of the Cove Cottage at high tide or choose either Cable Bay or Coopers Beach, both of which are less than a kilometer away and are two of New Zealand's finest beaches!
We never saw members of "the public" on the beach in front of the cottages at any stage of our two stays.
You could easily spend several days relaxing at the cove before even wanting to look for something else to do outside the property. When you do venture out there is plenty to do including cafes, golf (4 courses near by), beaches, driving trips, some hiking opportunities, fishing trips, Whangaroa Harbour cruises, Bay of Islands etc.
This is a special place and the two night minimum stay is not a problem as staying for one night only, would feel like a waste, I can assure you!
This is the most private and relaxing accommodation in the Coopers Beach area, so book it and you will not be disappointed.

My wife and I had spent a couple of weeks in Doubtless Bay some 12 years ago. We were keen to return but not to the same property as we didnt really enjoy it. After some research we picked this property in Coopers Beach - on arrival we were amazed to find it was infact the same property!
The current owner has completely renovated the site and done a fantastic job - the site is beautiful and the cottages he has installed are perfect for this type of holiday - the location is very peaceful and private and the lagoon just beautiful - Bruce is an excellent host and was very helpful - we will be back! -

Bruce was a fantastic host - he gave us tips on things to do in the area and spent time showing us around.
Cove Cottage is ideally located, with its own beach frontage and lovely manicured gardens. It is extremely well equipped with everything we needed and absolutely immaculate.
A visit to the very talented Rebecca Shawyer's galley was a highlight for us. Her work is amazing.
Our stay of 3 days was not long enough - this part of our two week holiday has sparked thoughts of retirement in New Zealand but a property like Sanctuary in the Cove would be hard to find. We loved every minute of it and cannot wait to return. -

MelbourneA delightful surprise, like having a honeymoon
Left on 11/27/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Keith and I have just spent a few days in a cottage at Sanctuary in the Cove. Wow. As we drove down through the remarkable gardens we were already relaxing. Our welcome from owner Bruce and the short skip along a small track to our cottage was all smiles. Bruce quickly left us to explore. Charming, uncluttered cottage; our own stretch of lawn with sunbeds; our own beach. Then there was the river, the rocks, the canoes. All fabulous.
The orange and mandarin trees in the garden meant we could squeeze our own juice. We went out in Bruce's boat, then ate the fish we caught. Such a buzz. And talking of food, there we were on our own piece of bay away from everything, but hop in the car and we were four minutes from Waterfront cafe where the food was fabulous.
Another surprise was the delightful drive from auckland to Coopers Beach. The road rolls through layer upon layer of hills and forests, with a canvas of greens and even snow-topped mountains way to the west. That drive formed part of our whole experience.
It's all good at Sanctuary in the Cove and I'd recommend it to everyone. -

Cove Cottage is a not-to-be-missed experience. Set in a beautiful secluded bay backed by a gorgeous garden, the cottage is well-appointed and comfortable. The local supermarket has everything you might need and Mangawhai is only a few minutes drive away if you want a coffee or meal out. We loved kayaking in the bay and walking over the headland to stunning Coopers Beach.

If privacy is what you are after then this is the place for you. We booked the romantic weekend package, which offered a late checkout 4pm - this was fantastic, along with chocolates and champagne - which was a lovely touch. The accommodation was excellent - very comfortable and super clean. The view is superb, and the surrounding gardens are lovely to walk through. Thanks Bruce for sharing your beautiful property with us. We have recommended the cottage to all our friends and family. It is certainly a place we wish to visit again.
