Privacy. Views of Coral Bay. Comfort. Anchorage aweigh had it all, packed into a one BR with a wonderful pool and view of Coral Bay. Kitchen utensils, towels, chairs, grill, deck furniture were all selected with the same care you would for your own home.

      Wedding and Honeymoon Heaven

Left on 11/15/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Our stay at anchorage aweigh was unreal. The privacy was astounding, and the view was breath-taking. The only thing that threatened our comfort in the villa was the mosquitos, but the villa equips you with an electric flyswatter that takes care of that! The kitchen had everything you could possibly need to cook, but we never made it to that point because Skinny Legs and Donkey Diner down the hill were too tempting! Besides those, there are plenty of restaurant options in Coral Bay. We spent every day at the beach, so it was nice that anchorage aweigh is only 5-10 minutes away from the most beautiful beaches in the world. The air-conditioned bedroom was a lifesaver, too. We slept like babies. Oh, and the pool! So refreshing! The night before our wedding, I stayed in the Westin so we could get ready separately. I can honestly recommend anchorage aweigh over a 4-star resort any day! Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home!

A romantic week in paradise at the most amazing private home

Left on 05/16/2012 for a stay in May 2011

Anchorage aweigh was everything that my husband and I could have hoped for on our first anniversary/belated honeymoon trip. The home was beautiful and had ever amenity we could want including local fish guides for our snorkeling adventures and iPod hookup for some relaxing tunes in the evening. Although, we highly recommend watching the goats on the school grounds in the morning, feeding the sugar birds in the afternoon or just listening to the boat and dock bells and music from the restaurants in Coral Bay.

We enjoyed the swimming pool, outdoor shower, porch views and the comfortable bed. They were the perfect retreat after a day spent on the beach, snorkeling or kayaking. The cooler and beach chairs were perfect for hiking to some secluded beaches.

Aqua Bistro Friday night Ponzu tuna appetizer was our very favorite meal. The company at The Tourist Trap along with their lobster rolls were the best lunch break after a morning at Salt Pond Bay. We also found that the atmosphere and burgers at Skinny Legs could not be beat!

There are plenty of fantastic beaches within a short driving distance. We especially loved Salt Pond Bay for it's great snorkeling and Maho Bay. Hiking Rams Head Trail in the early morning was an unforgettable experience as well as kayaking from Cruz Bay. St. John is a peaceful and beautiful Island to stay on. The locals are friendly, inviting and helpful. The local guide the owners had to meet us at the ferry dock was such a great welcome to the island. This was our first visit and we can't wait to coming back.

A little piece of heaven right here on earth!!

Left on 03/14/2012 for a stay in February 2012

My husband and I have traveled the Caribbean and parts of Mexico extensively and were absolutely head over heels in love with this one of a kind oasis. It seems that every small detail of anchorage aweigh was carefully and thoughtfully designed.
Whether lounging on a raft or chair by the pool or relaxing on the wraparound deck we were surrounded by beauty. The views of the harbor and church below were breathtaking. The kitchen was so well appointed we were able to enjoy many meals in. They even had a grill we used several times for steaks. We ate by candlelight on the deck.
The pool was perfectly cleaned, well maintained and completely private. The outdoor shower was like something out of a romantic novel with a window to the sea and a gorgeous ceiling of stars.
The bed was very comfortable as well. Here are some of the "little extras" that made our stay a truly unforgettable experience: Backpack Beach Chairs, Binoculars, Ipod Dock and CD player, Snorkel Masks, Coolers, Abundance of Beach Towels, WiFi and Satellite TV.

We found the perfect place to stay.

Left on 02/02/2012 for a stay in January 2012

We could not have been more happy with our stay at anchorage aweigh. It is a short drive up Sea Grape Hill, which is a fun hill to drive. Look the video up on Google! Marc met us at the villa and gave us a quick rundown of information. The minute we walked in we knew we had made a great choice. The villa was fresh and clean. Everything about it was perfect, the view, the pool, the location. The owners have thought of everything you could every need. The ipod dock was great to listen to our music while sitting on the deck taking in the view, they have a complete kitchen and all the utensils that you will need to fix dinners there, as the restaurants get quite expensive eating out every night. Coral Bay is the quieter side of the island, and that is just what we wanted. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from in Coral Bay. We brought hot cereals and some bagels with us to have for breakfast at the villa. Then we would head out to one of the beautiful beaches or a hike that are a short drive from the villa. After a morning/early afternoon at the beach, we came back to the villa for a shower and to relax in the pool and then out to dinner. The outdoor shower is lovely...either taking a shower during the heat of the day or under the stars. The only person I would caution is someone that has problems with stairs, as there is a steep spiral staircase that you have to go up and down to get to the bedroom. We loved it, but someone that has a problem with stairs may not. Otherwise, this villa is awesome!

      Dream vacation come true

Left on 11/29/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We read so many great reviews about this rental, including the owner's blog about its construction, we decided to spend our 20-years-late-honeymoon in St. John. The villa is everything that you might read; beautiful, quiet, semi-secluded, well-appointed and convenient, comfortable. Mark, the property manager, was helpful and in touch with us via email before our arrival. He met us at the ferry when we arrived and had our rental car waiting for us. The entire trip couldn't have been easier. Little touches like beach chairs, coolers, and beach towels made our trip packing a lot easier and our stay even more convenient. The road and driveway are steep but after a couple of times up and down you get used to it. We were enchanted with the sights and sounds from the villa; children playing in the schoolyard, the church bells and singing on Sunday, wild donkeys and chickens, a chorus of insects humming at night, the amazing view of the bay. The pool was clean and we enjoyed it every day. I couldn't say enough about the whole experience. I hope we can return!

Left on 10/22/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We had a wonderful time celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary at anchorage aweigh. The house was so welcoming and decorated very nice.

We enjoyed the swimming pool, outdoor shower, porch views as well as all the other amenities included. The cooler and beach chairs came in very handy to take along to the beaches.

The owners provided someone to meet us at the ferry, take us to get our rental car, buy groceries, and to the house.

Skinny Legs and aqua Bistro were our favorite restaurants. The prices were very reasonable and the food was good. Chauteau Bordeaux is a must for lunch and has awesome views of St John and other neighboring islands.

There are plenty of fantastic beaches within a short driving distance. St. John is a peaceful and beautiful Island to stay on. This was our first visit and we will definitely be coming back.

Second Time around - It's Still our Home away From Home Paradise

Left on 09/13/2011 for a stay in August 2011

My husband and I stayed at anchorage aweigh again in august and it did not disappoint. We stayed there last summer and enjoyed our stay so much that we felt like there was no other place we wanted to stay on our return visit to paradise! The cottage is perfect for two people who want privacy, a convenient location, easy access, as well as comfortable and clean surroundings. The air conditioned bedroom is on the lower level accessed by a spiral staircase. We absolutely love the saline pool! It is the perfect way to begin your day and/or end your day. Nothing like coming "home” from being on the beach all day, fixing your beverage of choice, and floating in the pool! The landscaping around the pool is lovely. The owners have planted palm trees and added an umbrella to provide shade if you want to lounge around the pool during the day. The kitchen is well stocked with all cooking essentials including a refrigerator with an ice maker. We loved beginning our day on the covered porch with our coffee watching the sugar birds and looking at the beautiful Coral Bay harbor and hillside. We feel that anchorage aweigh is an exceptional value for all the amenities that are provided its guest and we hope to return for another visit.

Left on 07/24/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We found beautiful snorkeling beaches to meet the needs of the beginner or the advanced swimmers.
We spent time on the wrap a round deck for shade and relaxation any time of day. The kitchen is well equipped for dining in or availability of dining out provides a variety of choices.
We enjoyed the birds and wildlife seen everywhere on the island and most of it within sight from the villa deck.
The pool was great way to begin and end the day or anytime in between.
The views from the villa and pool were exceptional. We were able to watch a storm come across the harbor and see the boats turn in synchronized dance with the change of tide.

      Paradise

Left on 06/16/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Anchorage aweigh was a perfect little slice of St. John. With stunning views the owners provide a bit of luxury along with all the comforts of home. It was an ideal romantic setting.

Evenings in the private pool were enchanting with the bright Caribbean sky above us. The outdoor shower is amazing. The outdoor living space and privacy is extraordinary. I love that the villa provides beach chairs, beach towels and coolers (two sizes). The internet connection was a bit flaky, but a quick reset easily fixed the problem.

Easy access to Skinny Legs, The Donkey Dinner, Shipwreck Landing and The Bistro provided plenty of dining options in Coral Bay. Quick beach access at Maho, but Salt Pond is absolutely worth the short hike.

Don't be intimidated by the drive up Seagrape Hill nor the driveway: Scary at first, but easy going after the first run.

The highlights for us were the views, pool and outdoor shower. Definitely would stay at anchorage aweigh again!

      Amazing villa with amazing views

Left on 05/29/2011 for a stay in May 2011

We just got back from our St. John Usvi vacation and staying at anchorage aweigh was the best decision. While the winding road up to the villa takes some getting used to, it is worth it for the views alone. The house has everything you need: kitchen essentials, wi-fi, cd-mp3 surround sound, swimming pool, etc. They've thought of everything including beach chairs and cooler for your days at the beach. There are great restaurants down the hill and across the bay so no need to cook if you don't want to. We spent about 10 days of "island time" and were sad to leave such a beautiful home and a piece of paradise. Thanks for sharing!

We had one of the most relaxing weeks of our lives.

Left on 04/27/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Anchorage aweigh is a fantastic spot for any couple. The location of the house is on the quieter side of St. John, it has a fantastic view of Coral Bay, and provides a great space for 2 people to spend a romantic week together. The house is a 2 story, stacked on the side of a mountain with wrap around balconies on each level. There is a pool and deck area overlooking Coral Bay situated between the 1st and 2nd level of the home. The bottom floor bedroom is air conditioned, which is nice for sleeping. The upper level main living area has plenty of windows to condition the space nicely. There is always a breeze and the temperatures aren't too warm. We loved the full kitchen, stereo with Ipod dock, outdoor dining area, couch, and porch swing. You are definitely in a private area in this home, but you're only minutes away from the restuarants of Coral Bay and St. John's many beaches and National Park area. The owners made it very easy to secure the rental, and their local agent guided us to the home upon our arrival, which was a huge plus. We absolutely loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone.

      25th anniversary/2nd Honeymoon

Left on 04/26/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We were St. John first timers and did we make the right decision. St. John was the perfect island, Coral Bay was the perfect town, and aA was the perfect villa for what quickly became our second honeymoon, which was even more memorable than the first. A lot of the credit for that goes to aA. It was the first villa we clicked on in Vrbo when we began our search. The most important part of the search results was the title for aA which said "Private Romantic Setting”. It could not have been more appropriate. We did some comparison shopping and while some villas were close, nothing else matched the combination of amenities, location, price and reviews.

Our villa favorites: The swing - we sat on it for morning coffee, afternoon and evening rum drinks; the pool; the privacy of the villa and pool. Other things we loved in no particular order: The view of Coral Bay, listening to the bands play at Skinny's and Island Blues down in town, watching the goats and donkeys feed on the school field, feeding the hummingbirds, banana quits and other birds, watching the geckos everywhere, hearing the kids get off the school bus in the morning and having fun instantly, eating our meals at the villa all outside, the entire villa setup and feeling we had when there.

If you're looking for a place to be as relaxed and connected as we felt for our 8 night stay, then this is the villa. It's close to town and the beaches in each direction yet had enough of that secluded feel. We enjoyed a different beach everyday and ate out some of our meals, but always felt totally at home coming back to aA for a dip in the pool and maybe eating dinner in at night. The kitchen, bathrooms, shower and bedroom all perfectly met our needs. We didn't even turn the TV on after the 3rd day since we were enjoying each other, the villa and the island so much. Our e-mails to Pat & Scott and Marc Miller (Manager) were all answered promptly and with all the information we needed for our stay.

      Lovely stay in Coral Bay

Left on 01/19/2011 for a stay in January 2011

The villa and location are as lovely as described. We loved staying in Coral Bay. The manager (Marc) met us in Cruz Bay and we followed him to the property in the dark. The driving on St John and the driveway of this villa are as scarey as described. It didn't stop us from driving all over the island, however, and there are many many beaches to snorkel. The villa has beach towels, beach chairs, and a cooler to take along - which was very nice to have! There is also a washer and dryer to make packing easier! The no seeums were a bother several of the nights while we were there, but we did have a couple nights where we could enjoy the view and sounds of the town sitting out on the very beautiful veranda! The outdoor shower was also a Caribbean treat, but it would have been nice to know that the hot is cold and vice versa. The kitchen is outfitted so eating in is as pleasant as dining out! We enjoyed Shipwreck Landing, Skinny Legs, and Island Blues right in Coral Bay. Very comfortable, lovely place to stay!

We are always happy to hear that guests enjoy our villa! Of course we wondered why the 4 stars. So we inquired because we always want to keep our place up to date and very enjoyable. It turns out that the mattress was not very comfortable. Just to let guests know...we have since returned to St. John and purchased a brand new, plush pillow-top mattress. So, hopefully we have rendered that little issue. Thanks so much for giving us your opinions! That's how we know what we need to change to make it just right!

My husband and I have been traveling to the Virgin Islands for many years and have stayed in a different place each time. However, since staying in Anchorage Aweigh, my husband and I feel we have found our "home away from home.” Anchorage Aweigh was an absolutely wonderful place to stay whether you are honeymooning or seasoned married people like us!! My husband and I spent a very enjoyable 12 nights in this little gem of a villa.

It is in a private location with easy road access and conveniently located to several restaurants and small grocery stores. We loved lounging in the pool sipping on our afternoon cocktail after spending the day on the beach. The owners have recently planted palm trees in the pool area which will provide nice shade if you want to spend the day by the pool. The upstairs porch is a great place to sit and read or watch the sugar birds. The villa is small but well furnished and had all the appliances and necessities to cook with! They have supplied beach towels, coolers, backpack beach chairs, floats for the pool, etc. We found that we needed the AC in the bedroom at night especially since we were there in August. There is a flat screen TV mounted down in the bedroom as well as a nice collection of movies to choose from to entertain you on a rainy day.

We loved this place and will return next August and every summer after if possible!!

My husband and I spent a week at Anchorage Aweigh. It is the absolute
perfect villa for a couple. After following owner’s blog, it was great to see
the finished product. A lot of effort was put into this villa. Lot of attention
to details from the tropical wall hangings to the small shells embedded in
the walls of the outdoor shower.

The kitchen is well equipped for dining in or to pack a cooler for the beach.
Back-pack style beach chairs, beach towels and a cooler are also provided.
The pool, with it’s comfy lounges and float, is a great place to relax after
that busy day at the beach or to just relax the day away. The villa has a fun
spiral staircase and great outdoor shower. The bedroom has AC and its own
      bath and porch.

The upstairs porch was our favorite thing about Anchorage Aweigh. It was
a great place to start the day with coffee and end the day with a night cap.
The sound system with the iPod dock let us enjoy our favorite island tunes
while soaking in the wonderful view, which overlooks Coral Bay Harbor and
the Moravian Church. We loved the view so much that we now have a
picture of it hanging in our living room.

The villa is very modern, clean and comfortable. The owners and on island
manager were a pleasure to work with and very quick to respond to any
      questions.

The Seagrape Hill location is very convenient to several restaurants, small
grocery stores, gas station and beaches.

      A slice of heaven

Left on 02/22/2010 for a stay in February 2010

John Milton may have created “Paradise Lost,” but Patricia and Scott created paradise!

Our two weeks at Anchorage Aweigh were sheer bliss.

Everything we needed was there for our use, from the kitchen to the back-pack beach chairs for our trips to the beach.

Dining was a pleasure, ranging from eating at some of the many "funky" places in Coral Bay to our favorite, dinner cooked on the grill and eaten by candlelight on the deck.

We loved the total privacy of the villa and found ourselves spending “a day on, a day off” – that is, we’d not leave for a day, just enjoying the decks, outdoor living room, the pool and our books. The next day, it was off exploring, taking a lunch and spending time at one of the many and varied beautiful beaches of St. John. Our favorite was Jumbie, a small, isolated stretch of beach just west of Trunk Bay. (Park just off the highway -- there’s room for 6-7 cars -- and take a short hike through the woods.)

One thing: you’ll never have to again spend money at an amusement park after you’ve driven on St. John. In fact, you’ve probably been on elevators that have less of an incline than many of the roads on the island (including the driveway) -- and the longest straightway we found was perhaps 15 yards long. Once you get used to it, driving there is actually kind of fun!

After all is said and done, the highest recommendation we can make is to say we’re planning on coming back again and again.

      GREAT WINTER GETAWAY!

Left on 01/28/2010 for a stay in January 2010

Anchorage Aweigh is very private. The deck and pool have amazing views of Coral Bay. The kitchen was lovely, the internet worked fantastically. My favorite spot was in the pool on the float watching the goats graze on the soccer field down by the bay! The location is wonderful; close to great restaurants like Shipwreck, Miss Lucy's, Sweet Plaintains, Skinnylegs, AquaBistro. Lily's market was close by and convenient. We enjoyed Maho Beach and Caneel Bay as well as Trunk and Cinnamon Bays. I enjoyed just being in the pool the most, no mosquitos. The ipod dock worked great. This is a great house for a romantic getway. We want to return in 2011!

      Paradise Found!

Left on 01/26/2010 for a stay in January 2010

My husband & I celebrated our 10 year anniversary at Anchorage Aweigh in St. John for one week in January. It was truly paradise and the only negative thing I can say was that we had to leave. The house was just perfect for two. It was very private with a spectacular view of Coral Bay and all the amenities including a gourmet kitchen and gas grill. The outdoor shower was awesome - so perfect with the little window to see the harbor and the beautiful rock and shell detail. From the balcony, you have a great view of all the locals coming and going in the town below as well as watching herds of goats and the occassional donkey making their way down the street. There is nothing better than sitting on the swing in the evening with a drink looking at Coral Harbor and listening to music from Sputniks below us. The pool was a must for us and we enjoyed every minute of it. There is lovely landscaping around the pool deck attracting butterflies and hummingbirds which were flitting around while we swam. It was wonderful coming back to our own little oasis away from the crowds in Cruz Bay. Anchorage Aweigh is a piece of heaven on earth and we are going to make this our anniversary spot for many years to come.

      Wonderful Honeymoon

Left on 12/18/2009 for a stay in November 2009

      What a wonderful time!

Anchorage Aweigh is in the perfect location! As you taxi through St. Thomas and ferry across to Cruz Bay, you can see they have their qualities. But then, you drive east to Coral Bay, and realize what scenic, intimate caribbean vacationing is about.

The Anchorage Aweigh cottage sits on a hill in Coral bay with only 2 or 3 other properties, a beautiful view of the bay, the school, the moravian church, and the verdant hills. As you pull into the driveway, you realize how much better a decision it was than a resort, condo, or an attached estate property. We noticed the new gas grill, the sitting bench, the flowering plants surrounding the cottage, and the inviting pool. Inside, the kitchen is well designed, well equipped, clean, and modern. We appreciated the gas range, the blender, the cookware, and the contemporary dishes. The sitting area upstairs was beneficial at night, but we often preferred to relax out on the wraparound patio. We'd take our coffee and breakfast facing the bay in the morning, listening to music through the iPOD dock and sound system. Showering outdoors was an enjoyable experience, although it's best to try and shower during the day, as the eco-friendly water system becomes less friendly when you're waiting for warm water at night. The pool made for a great afternoon relaxer. It's deep enough to cool you completely, and the privacy fence allows you to sunbathe. The lower patio makes for an easy transfer out to the pool, and the temperatures stay cool enough in the bedroom to leave the windows and patio door open during the day. The bedroom has a convenient .5 bath, and the bedroom set is a rich, dark, beautiful hue, with a comfortable mattress. We appreciated the multiple lighting options, the full dresser space, and the flat screen tv.

Overall, a great experience that surpassed our expectations!

Thanks so much to Scott and Patricia for making this a wonderful stay!

      Relaxation in Paradise!

Left on 11/18/2009 for a stay in October 2009

My husband and I stayed for a week at Anchorage Aweigh and we loved every minute of it. The owner were very easy to work with in making our reservation, and the fantastic service began immediately on arrival. The on-island property manager picked up our rental jeep for us and met us at the ferry dock. He then waited while we shopped for groceries and led us to the villa. He also checked in with us a couple of times to make sure everything was going well. We loved the location in Coral Bay--it truly feels like a world away--but be aware that it's a 20 minute drive up and down winding roads to get to and from Cruz Bay, so plan your activities accordingly. The villa itself is absolutely stunning--it's very quiet and felt very private, perched above Coral Bay Harbor with beautiful views from the wraparound porches and open air shower. The kitchen is well stocked and we enjoyed coming back after a day exploring the island to make dinner. The air-conditioned bedroom is very comfortable. The pool is beautiful, and it really made our stay feel more luxurious. We couldn't recommend Anchorage Aweigh highly enough for a wonderful week on St. John.

      I found a caribbean treasure !

Left on 11/03/2009 for a stay in October 2009

This place was absolutely wonderful. The owners and property manager have thought of every detail to make your vacation the best ever. Both the owners and property manager were very helpful in all questions.

The place is stocked with two beach chairs, a cooler, ice packs for the cooler, and much more. There's a gas grill and a fully stocked kitchen. This place was built by two school teachers that live in Anchorage. They love St. John and made their dream come true by building this place. The best part is, we get to share their piece of paradise. I suggest you do a Google search on Anchorage Aweigh and read their blog.

The shower and the pool sold me on this place. The views from both are breathtaking. You must rent a Jeep and explore the North Shore beaches. Our favorite beach was Coral Bay. You will be very pleased if you pick this place. Be sure you read the forums for advice on your St. John trip.

      Enjoy!

      great villa

Left on 10/26/2009 for a stay in October 2009

this small villa was like a home away from home for us. the pool is a perfect oasis after a day out hiking or on the beach. the owners have done a great job in furnishing the place and provide practically everything you need. getting to the house (and up the driveway!) is always an adventure in itself, and we love the quietness of coral bay. although secluded enough, we liked that there were bars and restaurants just down the hill if we felt like eating out. finally, we very much enjoyed the sounds of the wildlife around the house: frogs, birds, and even the goats grazing in the field below! we'd love to come back!

      Incredible views!

Left on 08/18/2009 for a stay in March 2009

We loved our stay at Anchorage Aweigh. The view from deck is a great way to wake up with your coffee or relax after a busy day in the sun. The swing overlooking Coral Bay quickly became our favorite spot. The house is adorable and the kitchen was well stocked. (We couldn't eat out every night.)
We enjoy the unspoiled side of Coral Bay so the location was perfect. We could enjoy all our favorite snorkling spots out on the East End and restaurants in town. Kayaking is great in the Bay and so was the hiking. The beaches are not crowded and you really feel like you have gotten away, and yet if you crave more Cruz Bay is a short drive.
Patty and Scott have the perfect get-away, comfortable and affordable for a couple. Whether you want to have an active day, or just relax on the porch on the comfortable lounge chairs, or swim in the pool, I would highly recommend their place. We had a memorable time!
