The Givens Family occupied this cottage, they operated a creamery, this was an ideal site due to the artesian well which supplies water.

These Cottages form a pair each with entrance hall, open plan kitchen / living room, One en suite bedroom which contains one double and one single bed. Red deal ceilings, wooden and ceramic floors, rubber wood furniture combine to give a modern yet traditional feel to these cottages.

Harkaway Cottages are traditional stone four star self catering cottages in a court yard setting. They comprise of three groups of semi detached cottages each named after the famili...es who farmed the land since 1800's. They consist of two one bedroomed cottages all en-suite, three two bedroomed cottages all ensuite, one three bedroomed cottage with up and down stairs bathrooms. The interiors are decorated to a modern standard while the chosen materials and colours keep that traditional cosy cottage feel.

The court yard of the cottages has a laundry room and also a games room in the converted coach house with pool table, air hockey, football table and radio. At the rear of the cottage there is a barbeque / patio area and children's playground.

We are ideally situated for hill walking on the Ballyhoura or Galtee mountains and only nine miles from the Ballyhoura Mountain Biking Course. Angling on the River Blackwater is only a short distance and our guests have permission to fish a stretch of this famous and beautiful river. Nature lovers are spoiled for choice in our region set as we are in the heart of the Beautiful Blackwater valley and nestled near the foot of the Ballyhoura mountains. Doneraile park is only 5 miles away. It consists of 160 hectares of parklands with mature groves of deciduous trees and a number of deer herds. Doneraile Court, a fine Georgian mansion overlooks the park. It has a rich variety of walks including the 5.5 km walk around the mature perimeter planting, the riverside walks, the woodland walks and walks through the deer parks. There are three species of deer – Red, Fallow and Sika, together with a herd of Irish red deer.

Only two miles from Harkaway are Annes Grove Gardens. These famous privately owned gardens are open to the public during the summertime. Here on sheltered slopes overlooking the River Awbeg, magnolias, hoherias and eucryphias grow to unusual size. Behind the 18th Century house secretive paths wind down past limestone cliffs and offer glimpses of the river, lily ponds and wild meadow below. Riverside walks are bordered by giant foliage plants and naturalised day lilies, astilbes and primulas.
