best place to stay in Corniglia, I would imagine!

Left on 06/14/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Casa Pele is in a great location - just a few steps from where the bus drops you off in Corniglia. 3 of us stayed there - they had a twin room and a sofa bed in the dining/kitchen area, which was large and spacious. Views from the apt were gorgeous - looking on to the sea and hills. Donatella, the owner/manager, looked after us very well. Underneath the apt block is a great cafe where we had brekkie most days - some nice eye candy working there also! Funnily enough a lot of women in the cafe...!

Loved Casa Pele & loved Corniglia!

Left on 06/10/2013 for a stay in May 2013

3 of us stayed at Casa Pele from 21st May for 5 nights and it was great. Highly recommend them. We got a very friendly reception from Donatella, the manager/owner (not sure which) and we had her number so we could contact her at any stage. The apartment was very bright and spotlessly clean and decorated in white and blue. It was very roomy with a twin bedroom, bathroom, large kitchen/living room (which had a sofa bed) and use of the terrace on the top floor. The cafe bar below served a mean breakfast and also had some nice eye candy!

Three friends stayed in apartment No 1 for 5 nights from 21st May 2013. From the moment we arrived Donatella made us feel very welcome and told us about the area. The apartment was spotless and had everything one would need (except for a corkscrew) for their stay. The shower was really strong and we all loved it. The apartment is only a stones throw from the bus, the local shops and restaurants. Donetella met us from the bus and brought us to the apartment.

      Lovely place!

Great apartment with a nice view in a perfect spot. The landlady was also very nice. There is a great balcony in apartment 2 and a kitchen, worth the extra cost. Two things to consider about this location -- there are 386 stairs to the train station, but there is also a bus to the train station, right outside the door of the apartment. The other thing is that the Via del'Amore trail along the coast is still washed out in spots, so you cannot walk along the coast in Corniglia. As of this writing, I think you can only walk from Riomaggiore to Manarola. Otherwise, this was a great stay.

      The heart of Cinque Terre

Left on 11/11/2012 for a stay in September 2012

The second floor unit had everything we needed as a base for exploring the 5 villages by trail, train, and ferry. The owner gave us a lovely orientation to the town of Corniglia and info on how to do everything else in the area. The unit is in brand new condition, spotlessly clean and well equipped for making a quick breakfast, drying clothes on the line after a hot day of hiking and drinking wine on the terrace watching the sunset over the aptly named Gulf of Poets. It is located steps from restaurants, take out pizza and small grocery stores, bakery and gelateria. The trailheads, train station and rocky beach are five minute walks from Casa Pele. We stayed 4 nights, permitting enough time to hike many of the trails in this stunningly beautiful World heritage site.

      quintessentially Cinque Terre

Left on 10/02/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Three middle aged couples, we rented the whole house - three apartments of varying size and facilities ( the top one is the smallest, no kitchen although it has a microwave and bar fridge, but it has the biggest balcony with the best view, the ground floor is the biggest but has no balcony, and the middle one has a balcony back and front and a kitchen) and it suited our purposes perfectly. Corniglia is the quietest of the villages, so it is lovely at night to return to its peacefulness. It is well equipped with two small stores (we really liked the closest one on the square with the bus stop) which supply all you could want for breakfast and/or light meals on the balcony overlooking the setting sun, plenty of options for eating out, and two excellent gelati places! The bus runs up and down the hill frequently, so if the 362 steps up from the station prove too much, there is an easy alternative. The quaintness of Corniglia is reinforced by the church bells which peal on the hour every hour, and the additional melodic tune at 7a.m. We loved it, but you should be aware it happens, if you are a light sleeper. Loved the seafood risotto at La Lanterna, and Lavinia's desserts - she's an artist!

Ninguna queja.

Excellent welcome by the apartment owner. Received everything listed in the details for this apartment. It was very hot, and the aC worked like a dream. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This village is not the easiest to get to, but it is ideally located to reach the others. Our apartment had brilliant, breathtaking views. We thought the pictures were too good to be true, but we were amazed by how beautiful the view was in reality. There is no internet in this apartment, but we had two rooms and "room 1" was directly above a bar (very quite) which had wifi and allowed us to use this. So perfect for teenagers who feel they cannot live without the internet!
Many thanks for a brilliant apartment!!!

There were 3 of us. We stayed on the second floor. It had one queen/king bed and then a twin bed in the kitchen area. There are 2 balconies..one on the front that faces the garden area, the other with view to the sea. Complete kitchen for light meals. We loved opening both sides and getting the cross ventilation. No a/c was needed in July! We did run it at night as we had to close the doors to block the noise of kids playing in the street. It was sparkling clean. Donatella will meet you upon arrival. She doesn't speak much English, and we not much Italian, but with a dictionary at hand, we communicated just fine. Perfect location. Highly rcommend! Like having your own Italian apartment!

Perfect, Tranquil Homebase for a Cinque Terre Vacation

Left on 07/08/2012 for a stay in June 2012

The three of us had floors one and three of Casa Pele and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The photos posted are exactly what you'll see when you arrive - the roof deck view is just that spectacular (better in person!)

We called from the train to let them know we were arriving soon and the delightful Donatella met us in the town square and walked us the short distance to the apartment. (Note, you should take the little shuttle that runs from the train station up to the village center - the walk up more than 300 steps with luggage would be brutal.)

Donatella's English is limited and our Italian is close to nonexistent, but she tried hard and used visual aids - maps and other guides to give us some terrific advice about the local trails. We asked for beach towels and she brought them right over as well. The beds were comfortable and the a/C worked great - we were there during a particularly hot spell. In short, Casa Pele was a perfect spot for us. We stayed four nights which gave us plenty of time to hike a bit, try out the boat that goes from town to town and have a meal out in most of the towns at least once. (One note about the boat - it does not stop in Corniglia, but it was easy enough to grab it from one of the other towns and then train back to Corniglia.)

I also strongly recommend Corniglia as the town to stay in. You'll see people refer to it as "sleepy" but there are plenty of good local restaurants and staying in a place with fewer tourists is a bonus to me.

Our group of extended family and friends rented the entire home for several days. Every room is clean, bright, and airy, with large windows to a beautiful view of the sea and the village. The terrace on the top floor provided a wonderful gathering place for informal meals and late-night lemoncino. All of the plumbing is up-to-date. The whole place sparkles. Breakfasts at the neighborhood cafe right below were wonderful.

Unfortunately, three of us got ill the night before we were to leave and were unable to travel. The owner, Donatella, was a true angel and not only allowed us an extra night, she even found a doctor who came to the house and worked a miracle cure! Hospitality above and beyond in a time of distress!

Casa Pele is a modern, comfortable, charming accommodation in the beautiful hillside village of Corniglia. It is located in the center of town, with a bar below, a church/bell tower behind and beautiful sea and village views. We stayed with 3 couples, which worked out very well for us to each have our own floor with our own bathroom. A balcony on the upper floor overlooking the sea served as our group social area in the evening. The second floor has both a kitchen and two balconies. The bottom floor also has a full kitchen. When we arrived, the owner met us in the town square—she got us all settled in, gave us maps and advice and was generally very helpful and friendly, despite our language barrier. We love this place and plan to return.

Apartments were very clean and well supplies. Checkin a bit difficult because of the language barrier but we both laughed about it and managed to get through.
Perfect town to stay in. Small, quaint, and everyone very friendly. Fun greeting new friends every day.

Casa Pele gets the very highest marks from us. Clean, wonderfully located, perfect for a small vacation appartment. Being located right at the center of town means that you will have some noise from the restaurants below, but we did not find this at all problematic, not loud, and stopped completely quite early in the evening. We give Case Pele the highest recommendation. We also note that the manager who handled the booking, Francesca at arbaspaa was extremely helpful, worked with us until we got the booking that was best for us.

Our stay was fantastic; the village is beautiful and the building is beautifully renovated and spotless. We had some confusion resulting from the description on the website - we had wanted a kitchen unit. However, the beauty of the village and the view from the terrace were wonderful. Donatella was amazing to deal with; it might help her if she had some information sheets to provide guests i.e check-out procedures/etc(in our case in English).

We could not have chosen a better place for our stay at Cinque Terre. Unfortuntely we both had gastric flu (my friend recovering, me struck down on arrival) so were not up for doing any of the walks that everyone says are the highlight of this area. But our apartment in the quietest village was exactly what we needed at this point in our holiday. Almost brand new, spotlessly clean and fully equipped, we couldn't fault this apartment. Being able to sit on the balcony and bask in the sun with a spectacular view spread out in front of us was exactly what we needed to gather our strength for Rome. We would definitely go back there.

This was the high light of our 2 week trip thru Italy. Casa Pele is situated a couple doors down from the central square, and with excellent views of the sea. Everything is relatively new and very clean. On check-in it took an extra 2 hours since no one knows this place by the name Casa Pele (even though it's under their nose. The a/C system worked sporadically, the top 2 floors shared the unit. The manager does not speak any English but we managed to check in despite this. Despite all this, Casa Pele was an excellent property and I would book again.

si elegis Corniglia, perfecto lugar para alojarte!

Left on 07/12/2011 for a stay in July 2011

      Wonderful experience, no complaints!

Left on 07/06/2011 for a stay in June 2011

My boyfriend and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Casa Pele. Booking was easy and hosts were able to accommodate our early arrival time. It was a bit tricky locating the proprietor at first (the town of Corniglia is so small that street signs/numbers are not clearly marked) but we did easily enough after wandering a bit. A woman (I think her name was Donatella) settled us into our lovely apartment in the heart of the town, with a great view on the little vineyard valley and sea beyond. She spoke minimal English but was so sweet and helpful in making us feel at home. The apartment itself was perfect, a one-bedroom with ensuite bathroom on the top floor and a great terrace where we enjoyed drinking wine/having breakfast (not included - we bought our own). There are a couple little food shops and restaurants steps from the apartment, and it's a short walk to the sea and about 15/20 minutes to the train station. I loved staying in Corniglia because it was the quietest and least tourist-saturated of the Cinque Terre, a lovely place to come "home" to after venturing out each day. Highly recommended!

Our beautiful sea view from the private terrace!

      Gem within a Gem

Left on 06/23/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Firstly, small and quiet Corniglia was our favorite village of the 5--even with the 2 trails (to Vernazza and to Manarola) closed due to landslides. Secondly, we believe we had the best place in town. Reserving the space went smoothly by email; communication was thorough and prompt. Paying (cash only upon arrival as stated) for the space also went exactly as indicated, no surprises. We stayed in the apartment on the second floor for 6 nights; sadly, there are no photos of this apartment in the advertisement. I would like to include some in my review if I detect a way to do so.

Pros: (1) Our hostess greeted us in the town square, escorted us to the apartment, and showed us how to operate everything. She introduced us to her mother who stopped by to meet us. :-) (2) This new apartment was impeccably clean and roomy for us 2. Everything was in working order: fine water pressure, plentiful bright lighting, bedside reading lighting, wonderful ventilation from the high tech "window-doors." The kitchen was completely furnished, with even an espresso pot! There are plenty of outdoor lines and pins for drying clothing after doing sink laundry. Fresh towels were delivered on our third or fourth night (which we didn't need as plenty had been provided). A broom is provided for cleaning up after yourself. (3) The shutters in the bedroom made for a dark sleeping environment. There was no rebel rousing or traffic on the streets or square to speak of. (4) The view was absolutely magical: village, sea, and grape vines are seen from the private front terrace (equipped with table and chairs) and the chapel, small grove, and more village from the back balcony (off the bedroom). (5) A very short walk away off the main square is a grocery store run by a delightfully friendly couple offering a full deli, fresh produce, dry goods, local wine, grappa, and lemoncino! Also, a fine pizzaria offers the best anchovy, olive, and caper pizza we've ever had! Beyond the market toward the smaller square there are more options for eating and internet service. (6) A community hair dryer for sharing was provided by the main door to the apartment house.

Cons: Both of these issues could be resolved, and I regret having to list any cons as the place was so delightful. (1) The air conditioner is programmed to turn itself off late night, and there is no overriding that. (My engineer husband tried to change it to no avail.) It was cool and rainy while we were there, so we managed ok, but you may want to inquire about the air conditioner's program when you reserve. Our hostess, I believe, did not know this because she tried to explain what to do if we get too cold at night. (2) Now, this was a huge problem for us and my husband is a very sound sleeper, but I don't know how it can be alleviated short of writing the town council. Although, if Case Pele is reading this, an electric room fan would be greatly useful! The charming (upon arriving) church bells located on the chapel just outside the bedroom window are the most active I've ever heard. :) The bell chimes on the hour and on the half hour, sometimes repeating itself 5 minutes later, and yes, it chimes the enitre night. And be prepared for a lovely 6 p.m as well as 7 a.m. song. Closing our bedroom window and door helped and having the air conditioner on helped...until the air conditioner's prgram turned it off, then we got too warm. (3) This is minor! I like practical, absorbent bath towels--not super soft and fragranced. The white towels were spotless, quick drying, and fragrance free, but I think they were brand new because they were quite scratchy-- even for me. (My husband did not mind them.) Alas, nothing is perfect!

Note: This was the reason I did not give a perfect score for check-in. As delightful as our hostess was, she did not speak English. We had been instructed to telephone her upon arriving in the town square. (We didn't know at the time that there is a main square and a smaller square.) So, there was a bit of panic as we couldn't communicate to her where we were. She finally arrived with great enthusiasm and apologies. It was a bit stressful trying to understand her introduction to the apartment as we spoke very, very picolo Italian, but she was so warm, tried so hard, and we were so appreciative of the place it didn't really matter! Just be prepared for a communication gap (part of traveling, right?!).

Also, this is not a criticism of Casa Pele either, it is merely an observation of the beds we experienced in Italy and Spain. Full/queen/king beds are 2 twin beds pushed together. This means a crack runs down the bed and the beds can separate during the night leaving a gap. Don't expect a us type queen/king bed.

I whole heartedly recommend Casa Pele and would stay again--regardless of the church bells and scratchy towels and communication challenge. It was absolutely a wonderful place to begin our vacation, and I regret not being able to give it a perfect score, but the air conditioning and chapel bells were indeed an issue for us. Both of these issues could be resolved by the time you go!

      One word.. Amazing.

Our stay in Cinque Terre was really enjoyable. The apartment is clean, spacious and brand new. Great amenities such as dishes, pots, towels.. everything we needed. Corniglia is the best place to stay at if you're visiting Cinque Terre. Its centrally located and provides you great options to hike, take the bus or take the train.

      Check aircon..not connected most months

Left on 06/01/2011 for a stay in May 2011

The main problem is the air conditioning is not connected. It is amazing that apartments that are advertised as having air con ..have limited the use, to apparently save money.
We spoke with the manager through an interpreter but she said the air con is only connected in July & August and suggested we open the windows. We had hot weather and needed the air con. She supplied a fan for one apartment. It was a poor substitute
I think it is false advertising to say a unit has air conditioning, but without saying only in July & August

It took us 1 hour 20 minutes to check in.
If guests to Casa Pele do not speak Italian it is quite a problem sorting out passport registration, parking, payments, etc

The apartment itself in very good
