East Coast, USACorolla is great! House is fine. Property management left some
Left on 09/01/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This house was a good bargain for our family of four. The interiour was spacious, it was a short walk to the beach, and, like all Corolla vacations we've taken, the beach and community are fabulous--peaceful, family friendly, and easy going. The condo is an end unit, and, although there was a family in the condo next door, we didn't hear a sound from the other side of the wall. The outdoor shower and hose are critical, and the clothesline was a nice touch.
The kitchen was fairly well stocked dishes-wise, and we cooked all but one dinner. It does need a vegetable peeler. The fridge could be larger, and the ice maker doesn't work. Our kids, ages 7 and 9 love the beach and the pool. The community pool is really small. We were fortunate we were there during a relatively slow week.
Our two major concerns with this property were 1) the a/C needs to be updated and 2) Property management was not great. This is a three-story condo and the air conditioning can't keep the top floor cool. We were there during a week with cooler nights, so, eventually, it caught up--but I can't imagine what it would be like in mid-July. Perhaps worse, was the lack of attention to this house. It was not clean when we arrived--the dishes were so gross I ran everything through the dishwasher before we used a single cup, dish, or pan. When we arrived, it did not appear as if it had been cleaned since the prior renter left, and I am pretty sure we left it cleaner than we found it.
The property management company is about 6 miles north of the house, which adds 30 minutes to your drive the day you arrive and the day you leave. While this might not have been such an issue a few years ago, we've rented with lots of companies that either let you drop keys off with different offices (e.g., drop keys off in Duck, which is on the way off the island) or that had key pads so you didn't have to go to an office at all. As well, there was no information about the house or community when we arrived. It was evening, and we wandered around a bit before figuring out which path was the one to the beach (it wasn't hard to find, but, information would have been helpful after a long drive). Also, this condo community is one of several in a larger neighborhood. Therefore, there are at least 2 pools, and tennis courts. It would have been helpful if information about how to get to the pool, hours of operation, and whether the tennis courts were part of the community would have been helpful. In general, it is always a nice, personal touch for owners (or rental companies) to leave information about local restaurants, activities, etc. None of this was included in our house.
We also had problems with the internet, which had to be reset every day at least once. This meant unplugging it, waiting at least 30 seconds, and replugging 4 different plugs. This was irritating.
Overall, I would not return to this house unless it was being managed by a different company. If you rent, and don't purchase the linens (they cost extra) don't forget your bath mats! We brought our own linens, and forgot the bathmats. -

MDClose to the beach for a great price
Left on 08/08/2012 for a stay in June 2011
The house is located just a few minutes from the beach. There is a walkway no more than 50 yards from the house. The house is on the end of the block, so there is minimal disturbance from neighbors. The house is very nice, with a beach house theme of course. The house can comfortably sleep 4 with room for more on the upper level pull out sofas. There is a deck on the 2 upper levels, including one outside the master bedroom that is great to wake up to. Most of our time was spent on the beach, which was not crowded and very peaceful, a great plus!
