After 4 consecutive years of renting with OBX Blue, having the best vacation ever, we rented Driftwood Castle. The house is in need of repairs and is not up to the standards of the previous rented properties. Walking into the house, a visually stained sofa greeted us, followed by stained carpet, broken window treatments, broken coffee table, moldy shower curtains, smudges from kids/dogs all over the doors, broken glass on volleyball court as well as dog feces around the court, cans bottles around the property, th floor had not been vacumed leaving cereal on the floor from the previous renters, and food on the microwave. We had one full day of rain in which water came in through both upper floor doors, soaking the carpet. This is not acceptable when paying almost $5000.00 for one week. The house itself is great, but, the owners and the realators need to provide some maintainence and upkeep. Read more
Bummer....we are sorry to read your review of Driftwood Castle, and sorry your stay with OBX Blue this time was not what you expected given your previous good experiences with us.
This homeowner will be advised of the issues you outlined, and we apologize for our part in your disappointment. We wish we would have heard from you while you were here so we could have rectified some of these items during your stay as it doesn't appear that we heard from you.
We look forward to serving you again soon.

Big house in a great location but in need of a good cleaning and

We have been staying in the Outer Banks for 10 years. This is the first year that we used Outer Banks Blue Realty. I liked the convenience of check-in ( we received directions and key code 10 days prior to our stay), and I also liked the convenience of check-out. The home was large and in a great location. This is the first time we stayed in Corolla, and we loved the beaches there!!! The home was dirty and in great need of many repairs and updates. The stove door would not close completely, but the repairman showed up within 24 hrs. and at least got it to shut. There were many lightbulbs out or shorts in the electrics. No matter how much we scrubbed the kitchen counter, there were ants!!!. The back decking was leaning, and there were cobwebs everywhere. The pullout sleeper sofa was totally broke. We did like the close location to the beach, and the location of the home was convenient for all shopping and amenities. Read more
Thanks for taking the time to post a review on Driftwood castle. We are glad you found our services convenient and guest friendly!
It is disappointing to hear you thought the property was not as it should be. We of course did dispatch a repairman for the stove door on the same day you called. The door hinges on the stove were somehow bent during your stay almost as though someone had stood on the door, but they were promptly repaired.
We do check our properties on a weekly basis for burned light bulbs, and we have a maintenance man go through each property at least monthly to replace all a/c filters and ensure all light bulbs are working. We are sorry a few bulbs were missed before your stay.
We've not heard anything previous to this about a sofa bed not working at this property, but we will look into that matter. The house does sleep a lot of folks (19 people including the use of the sofa beds), and so sometimes things get a bit overused and need repair. We have a prompt and courteous maintenance staff to ensure these types of things are corrected as soon as possible.

The location was great. The house needs some maintenance but once those things are addressed it will be an awesome place. Spacious, lots to do, love that the beach path is basically right outside your door.

This is a great house but is in need of a little TLC and a really good cleaning crew.
After my family flying over from Europe then the 2 hr drive from Norfolk. We did not expect to have to clean the house sweep the drive way clear of broken glass and hose down the pool area. Trash,Cigerette butts, dirty towels on the balcony the bedding/pillows could also use a little up dating. Once we clean up we did have a great time.Just not the way you want to start your holiday.

The vacation rental had a just like home feel to it. We did have some maintenance issues, but outer banks blue was quick to respond. The one sleeper couch that someone was supposed to sleep on wasn't safe or sleeping. We had some beds that were not made upon our arrival. Over all outer banks blue was wonderful, not sure that we would want to stay in this house again or try a different one. The hot tub also is leaking water. Missing light bulbs in light fixtures. If all the maintenance issues were taken care of this house would be fabulous and we would probably stay in it again.

4 Generations of Fun!

Our family had just welcomed a new baby into the world and Driftwood Castle provided the perfect place for us to do our traditional multi-generational summer vacation. The cleanliness and roominess allowed everyone to be comfortable in their own space and the large dining room table was my favorite. It was great for all of us be able to sit down and enjoy our meals together. The new momma and poppa were able to relax at the pool while the baby was napping inside (they brought their baby monitor). The beach is just a short walk away. There are so many things about this house to love, the books, games, wi-fi, distance to shops and groceries, comfortable furniture and everything in working order. Our family has stayed in many rentals and in comparison this is the nicest one we have ever stayed in!

My family fell in love with Corolla, NC and Driftwood Castle. The house was very spacious and the amenities were numerous. Unfortunately, the service from Outer Banks Blue and the cleanliness of the house were way below expectations. The second floor of the home had an overwhelmingly strong smell of cats. It took leaving the windows open around the clock to be able to stand sleeping in the rooms at night. We had to clean up multiple piles of dog feces on the deck before we could let our children go outside to play. The calls to the rental company with complaints ended at a dead end and they were not helpful at all.
Would come back again.

Overall, we were very pleased with our stay at Driftwood Castle. We entered on the bottom floor and it smelled a bit musty so I was concerned. There was also a terrible fishy smell coming from the pantry but disappeared when we aired the place. The home was on whole clean but more attention needed to be paid to the pantry area and we found some old cookies on the top of the refrigerator in the kitchen which the housekeepers should have removed. The volleyball court was not in good repair (needed more sand or plant grass; the stickers were awful) and that goes for the swing set area too. We were pleased that we did get some refund since the hot tub was not working for the first three days of our stay. The TV remote in the living room needed batteries and was difficult to operate because of that.

For one week in august, Driftwood Castle was home to 15 people ranging in age from 80s to pre-teen -- and also two dogs. The wraparound decks and refreshing pool were the best for hanging out and relaxing/eating/drinking. The house could have been a little cleaner (dirt on ceilings around vents was esp. disturbing; questionable stains on the carpets, and we pulled some weeds by the pool) and the bunk beds were uncomfortable -- plus, one pullout was broken and we had to wire it up to make it work. But everyone agrees that the house was great overall. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the great room was cozy. It was an easy walk to the beach (though we did drive the elderly couple and they had a hard time with the stairs over the dunes) and close enough to grocery and shops to make it convenient w/out feeling like you're not at the beach.

Great Beach vacation

We had the maximum number of people staying in this house and then some. It was great. Plenty of room. This house is Dog friendly and as this was my dogs first vacation with us it was great. He loved the beach and the neighborhood and getting to know the other dogs as well. The children had pleny to do, mostly in the pool, but playing football on the beach and getting in the water was fun too. The teens and kids loved the go karts, just across the street from the main entrance to the neighborhood. About a 2 minute ride or a 7 minute walk. The basketball court was a favorite as well. The little ones loved the swing set in the backyard. Unable to use the volleyball court as the sand spurs were just too much to deal with. We cooked at every meal. The upstairs refrigerator did not get as cold as we wanted but the downstairs refrigerator was able to accommodate. For our first Big family vacation, it was great. Much better than our Mountain Tennessee vacation last year.
Lasting family memories.

Cleaniness of exterior such as cobwebs on house, bathroom at poolside, outdoor chairs all this could have been cleaner.
Washing machine broke on our first day of a holiday weekend. We called the rental office & within one hour service was provided. Very impressive!

The location of the house was just about perfect - a little too much traffic going by, but short distance walk to the beach. Loved the pool - nice large size. Enjoyed that the hot tub and pool were near each other on the same level. Shade and picnic table poolside were definite plusses. Outer Banks Blue did respond promptly when we called to tell them of a few issues: The house was a bit dirty - carpet showing signs of wear. Biggest problem was that water had leaked in by 2 doors (before our stay) and there was an awful smell throughout the house from the mold that resulted. Large area on one landing of the steps - where you had to walk to go either up or down - was soaked when we checked in and the mold around the baseboard area was quite obvious. We did call the Outer Banks Blue and they did send someone to check it out. The next day a carpet guy showed up and sprayed all the open floor areas, sort of cleaned the carpets and sucked up the excess water that had accumulated by the 2 doors. Unfortunately, the house still smelled the entire week we were there. There was also one bedroom that we could not use because it smelled to much - not sure if it was mold or what, but it did not go away after the carpet was sprayed. The house has great potential, but we won't stay there again. Read more
Thanks for your review of Driftwood Castle. We are pleased that you had so many good things to say about the property.
We apologize again that there was a smell that made your stay less than expected. As you indicated we did try to rectify the situation, and I'm happy to report that the matter seems to have been solved now. We can only imagine that the smell was the result of a week of heavy rain.
Thanks again for your comments.

Making Great Family Memories
Left on 10/01/2008 for a stay in July 2008 | Poohpa
As grand parents we know that great summers with the family contribute to precious memories. We rented Driftwood Castle and invited our kids, their spouses, and our eight grand kids for a fun week at the Outer Banks. They came from IL, CA, and Montreal, Quebec. And it was indeed memorable!
The kids and grand kids loved to play beach volleyball behind Driftwood almost every evening. They played to win as the grand parents refereed. Relaxing in the pool and hot tub at the end of the day gave us time to catch up with each others lives. The home is comfortable and roomy which enables one to find a spot for soul searching or to hang out with the family. The home is well equipped with everything imaginable including beach supplies. We did not hear a single disagreement and everyone hated saying their goodbyes at the end of the week. This was certainly a memorable vacation and some of the family said it was "the best ever".
Outer Banks Blue Realty took excellent care of us. We had a couple of requests that were fulfilled quickly. Our Driftwood Castle vacation is a great memory and stil comes up in conversation frequently! We would love to do this again.
Great Family Reunion Property

The property was great for a mini family reunion. We had three families plus grandma staying together. The three levels, which included four master bedroom set ups, let us have our own space but the upstairs was great for family dinners and game playing. The beach was close enough and with the pool the younger kids did not have to wait on the adults to go swimming. Grocery stores, dining and other entertainment were less than a 5 minute drive (or you could even walk) away. I would definitely stay here again.

A great week

We've vacationed in the outer banks for years, and this place was a great place. Having sheets and towels provided was a nice feature.
There's no garbage disposal - which would be a nice added feature. And there weren't any tupperware peices to store food during the week.
But the house was clean and otherwise well stocked. The foosball table and air hockey was nice for young kids. The pool is on the side which gives it more sunlight throughout the day.
All in all - a great week.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Driftwood Castle. Lots of toys and fun stuff were included in the shed. Grills and the pool/hot tub gave us flexibility in our meal plans and beach/weather plans. Given our family situation, being closer to the beach would have been preferrable, however the house itself as well as the cleanliness was highly satisfactory. The check-in/check-out was unbelievably easy and we would definitely look forward to a similar process in the future. Overall a great experience for the entire family.

We spent a great week with family and friends in the house. The house has everything that you need. It is very close the beach and shopping centers. When not at beach, we enjoyed staying in the pool & hot tub. Volley ball court is nice too. The only thing I missed was the Tennis Court. There is no community Tennis court.
