Bandit's Lair is a beautiful home with all the amenities a vacation home should have. The location was beautiful and we enjoyed watching golfers all day long. The beds are amazingly comfortable. Would definitely get a new dishwasher in the kitchen but other than that - everything you need is there. The house was not cleaned well before we arrived - i would certainly look into a new cleaning service. However - we had a wonderful time and would certainly stay again.

Columbus, OHBandit's Lair & Good times
Left on 09/05/2010 for a stay in August 2010
Bandit's Lair provided a comfortable vacation experience for our group. It's layout allowed for everyone to have a space. The amenities were good (pool, hot tub) but these could have been maintained better throughout our stay. The pool was not cleaned from an outside source during our week and there were no tools on site (pool brush) to clean it ourselves. The house itself was mostly clean, but areas not on the weekly cleaning rotation were sorely overlooked (banister sticky and black...very gross!) Some of the extras included in the rental were bicycles. Initially the teens (13 of them) were very excited about the bikes until they tried to ride them. Only about 4 of them were usable. If it's a perk you're providing, it needs to be safe and in working condition. Our group of 19 was mostly satisfied with the overall product we purchased for the week, but each of us felt there were items needing attention from the owner/rental group.

Canton, OhioGreat home but the extras left a lot to be desired!

The home itself was great and very comfortable for our group. The cleaning crew did not do a good job at all! Cob webs, spider nest, pool not cleaned and debris on decks made it hard to fully enjoy. Most issues were corrected but a few never received attention. The only problem with the actual home that we encountered was with the bicycles. Many were not in working order. We were right on the golf course and close to the beach. Many may find this home a great escape!

Bandit's Lair was perfect for our vacation stay. It really does have fantastic ocean
views, a steady breeze due to it's elevation, and the shuttle to the beach picks up
right in front of the house. The house comfortably sleeps as many people as
advertised, with suficient numbers of rooms to provide nice privacy when desired. -

All in all our trip to OBX was excellent. We will definetly be coming back next year. The house we stayed in was nice but with amount that we are paying I believe everything should be in working order when we arrive.
Their were three grills at the house only which one was working. One was in such disrepair it should have been thrown out. One of the grills was not cleaned and looked like it was just cooked on.
The AV equipment for the pool area did not work and there were many lights burned out especially the pool. The DVD player in the living room skips and was not able to view movies for the kids. We tryed numerous dvds all of which skipped.
The bunk bed was broken.
These are things that should not happen if someone is doing a walk through prior to our visit.
These minor things will not deter us from coming back next year. We actually have more families that want to join us so we will be looking for a bigger house or two next to each other. -

While staying at the Outer Banks, we were able to visit many other similar properties and found the Bandit's Lair to be well above the others. The Home is very well kept and amenities are superb. It was a joy to relax poolside and in the hot tub. The golf course was in excellent shape and, at this time of year, not so busy during the week. It was a plus to have bicycles to use. I believe it would be better to have at least two sets of towels for each guest without additional charge to be able to use some for the pool/beach and another for the shower. Carolla, at the north end, is so close the the wild horse area it is a must see adventure (4 wheelers needed - low tide access)and the Carolla Lighthouse.

The house has a nice view of the ocean and sound.
Parking is limited. It is a big house and the available parking does not fit the size of the house. One of the 2 garage bays is occupied by the pool table. If you have more than 3 (small) cars, you must shuffle cars to get in and out.
When we rented the house, we requested that the pool be heated. We checked on this again several weeks before our arrival, and we were told by Outer Banks Blue staff that it would be heated. The heater did not work when we arrived on Saturday. We called Outer Banks Blue immediately. On Monday, we were told that we had to pay an additional fee for pool heat. We agreed to split the fee. When the pool person came to turn the heat on, it did not work. It took until Thursday to repair the heater. Outer Banks Blue agreed to waive the fee.
The DVD player in the living room did not work. The stereo system in the rec room and pool area did not work. We told Outer Banks Blue staff about this on Monday. Nothing was done to fix these problems.
The handles fell off the toaster.
The ice maker in the refrigerator was not working when we arrived. We fixed it ourselves. The refrigerator water dispensing area was dirty.
The lock on the sliding door in the living room did not work.
Both gas grills were dirty when we arrived. The handles to turn the burners on and off did not work.
The house was advertised as having bicycles but most of them were in various stages of disrepair and could not be used.
The steps from the pool area to the children's sandbox were damaged and could be hazardous to young children.Response from Outer Banks Blue - 09/28/2008

Bandit's Lair was the perfect home for my family's first ever "let's take everybody" vacation. The elevator was great for Grandma, the pool for the young kids, the basement bedrooms and entertainment area for the teenagers, and the master bedroom for a quiet retreat away from the kids. The views were great, the staff helpful (we had first renter's of the season hiccups), and the house was well stocked. We truly relaxed, had some wonderful memories and would recommend this house for all ages.
