York, PaAmazing stay!
Left on 05/09/2013 for a stay in May 2013
Where to start...this home was everything we had hoped for and much more! My husband and I planned our one year anniversary trip to the "secluded cottage" and are already planning our next trip back. The home and all the amenities were in perfect condition and so clean! The home itself is tucked away behind pine trees and so secluded that not one car passed by our house during our stay. Not only was the house perfect, but working with Flip and Melody was so easy and they were very accommodating. We were sad to go, but excited to return. Thanks for a wonderful and memorable anniversary!

Pleasant Unity, PA (near Pittsburgh)The best beach vacation stay we've ever had.
Left on 11/05/2012 for a stay in August 2011
My husband, son and I stayed at this cottage in august of 2010 for a week. For a small family looking for a relaxing, secluded stay, this is the place. We had to leave a day and a half early that year due to Hurricane Earl, but we enjoyed every minute we had. My husband (who is not necessarily a beach lover) was up at sunrise to get on the beach to fish. He loved the fact that it wasn't crowded. And the wildlife is amazing. The house itself is roomy and clean...had everything we needed to make it a home away from home! We are thinking of another stay very soon and have already recommended this place to friends of ours. Just can't say enough about it.

Allentown, PennsylvaniaI survived Hurricane Sandy at Washwoods!!
Left on 11/05/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Despite the wild weather at the start of the week, the house stood fast and I had very minimal problems with electric (not more than a few minutes without). There was a fine collection of frogs of different colors on the deck the morning after the storm subsided, all hopping around :-) The house is lovely, set back in the woods and very private. It's well appointed and the neighbors are so friendly. The beach is an easy walk if you travel lightly (backpack) or an easy drive if you don't! :-) Driving on the sand for the first time was a little interesting, but not too bad. I can't wait to go back and take advantage of all those things that weren't available due to the storm!

This was our second stay at Wash Woods and it is still our favorite! We love that the house is set back in the woods offering some privacy, but still have only a short trip to the beach. We hope to come back to Wash Woods for future vacations.

Statesville NCAmazing week at the beach!!!
Left on 09/15/2012 for a stay in September 2012
The house was so clean when we arrived, we loved the privacy, and couldn't have asked for a better stocked house! Horses, deer, and cute little tree frogs were everywhere. Each night we enjoyed the hot tub, and each night we saw shooting stars!!! The call to make sure we arrived safely was a very sweet gesture. The best part was bringing our "babies". Since they are rescues, they have separation anxiety and boarding is out of the question. Our dogs loved the house! The beach was always empty enough to have fun without feeling crowded, and the sunrises were absolutely breathtaking. The only thing we didn't like was having to leave :-) Thanks again for letting us rent the house!!!

Left on 08/14/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at Wash Woods and it was just as wonderfully relaxing! We got to have our first true "family vacation" with our 8 month old daughter and two "furbabies" in a wonderfully remote and comfortable home. Everything and anything a family needs is in this house and you truly feel right at home! I can't wait to stay here again :-)

Annville PABest of both worlds- Fun in the sun with plenty of privacy
Left on 08/07/2012 for a stay in July 2012
How do I start to describe the Harrison's propery? This home was very nice and much better then described. We arrived to find a clean and well stock home. The location is great. If you also enjoy the outdoors/cabin/woods type vacation this place also has that feel. Mature trees and wild animals are everywhere. Seclusion in this area made you feel that you had most of the North Swan beach/Carova beach to yourself. When we were on the beach, there was never anyone within a 100 yards you us (other then the occasional vehicle or early morning jogger). We had plenty of time to relax at the beach and then at the cottage. The hot tub was very nice to relax in and listen to the ocean sounds and the tree frogs. My family had a great time in the OBX and I am sure that this rental property had a lot to do with that. We are even starting to plan another OBX trip and I am sure if this rental is available we would love to stay here again.
Oh and the Harrison are so easy to deal with and very pleasant. We had a small mistake with the deposit and Flip made it a "no issue". Thank you again for your place and making our trip enjoyable.

Left on 03/28/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We are from Ontario Canada and we rented this beautiful cottage for March Break. Thanks you to Flip for sharing your cottage with us! It was a fun experience staying in the four wheel drive area...The cottage was perfect for our vacation...very private for rest and relaxation... The cottage was in excellent condition and very clean. Loved relaxing in the hot tub after long walks on the beach. It was a fun experience driving around the side trails and along the beach looking for wild horses, and we found many!... The weather was amazing as well! Conditions were perfect for kite flying and frisbee at the beach. We spent one day visiting Jockeys Ridge State Park and went to the Wrights Brothers National Memorial...lots of fun!
We would certainly return for future vacations!Response from Flip Harrison - 03/29/2012

PAFantastic Vacation
Left on 02/25/2012 for a stay in February 2012
This was our first vacation home and the entire experience was fantastic. We booked last second and Flip (the owner) could not have been more accommodating. If you want to 'get away' from the hustle/bustle of civilization and enjoy nature, this is the house. Our boys (3 and 6 years old) loved the 'tree house', driving on the sand, taking walks to watch the dolphins, and collecting sea-shells. We went during off season and the rain was a great excuse to read books, watch movies and sit in the hot tub. The pictures on the website cannot convey the warmth of the house. We've promised our boys that we would be back during the summer when they can actually swim in the ocean.

Kingston, MARelaxing retreat, secluded with everything you could need
Left on 11/14/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My husband and I spent 4 relaxing days out at Washwoods this past October. When I began researching rentals for our OBX vacation, I happened upon Washwoods and just knew that was the one. Once we contacted the owners, it was just that much easier. They were helpful and accomadating. We rent vacation homes a few times a year and have never had such great home owners, the welcome package was wonderful! We loved the excitement of driving up the beach to literally get to the house. Once we arrived, we felt at home. The home is immaculate, stocked for renters with all types of dishes, grilling untensils; all sorts of things you wouldn't expect a rental home to furnish. The house is decorated and so comfortable, it really shows the owners take pride in their home. We really enjoyed evenings in the hot tub, listening to the waves crash on the beach. This was our first visit to OBX and there are really only two things we would have done differently; longer stay and definitelty stay out at the house rather than spend time driving to other areas on the OBX...Corolla is by far the most gorgeous! We will definitely be back to Washwoods.

We are so glad you had a great time. It's heartwarming to get reviews like yours. We've tried to make things easy on our guests. It's not fun to have to run out and get the things you might have forgotten to bring. We want everyone to come out, stay and enjoy the beach and the unique surroundings of the 4WD OBX area. Thanks again for choosing to stay at Wash Woods!

Left on 09/23/2011 for a stay in September 2011
First let me say that the owners, Flip and Melody are great...great communications skills before, during and after my stay at their lovely decorated home. Clean, comfortable, secluded, could easily sleep 7, but was there with 2 friends. Kitchen has everything you could want. Bathroom is clean and good size. Bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. Outside enclosed porch was fantastic for sitting and enjoying the oceans and nature sounds. Hot tub is well maintained...saw the tub guy twice during our week stay. Walk down steps of the deck to ground level. Washer and dryer in lower level for those quick changes after using the outside enclosed shower. Trash pick up twice a week, and they come to the trash cans, dont have to take it to the curb!!! Yeah! This is just a fantastic home and owners and would recommend to all my friends and family in Ohio. Thank you to Flip and Melody, such gracious hosts.

We could not have asked for better vacationers! Treated our home like their own and left it very clean. Debbie even left us a beautiful watercolor painting she did. We've had it framed and will be hanging it in the kids room!

Left on 08/30/2011 for a stay in August 2011
this was a great home, very comfy and had all the conveniences of home. Suprised to find a washer and dryer as our suitcases had been rained on on our way in. Saw wild mustangs 3-4 times and the weather was perfect. Upon arriving we discovered we couldnt get into the house and thought perhaps we had lost a second key. Luckily one of the windows was unlocked and we climbed through.!! Key didnt work well in the deadbolt lock unfortunatly. Outside shower was perfect for after the beach but needed a shower head on it. Secluded location was great for peace and quiet. Dogs explored and didnt disturb anyone cuz noone was close by. Best vacation in a long time...and the cleanest home we have been in , in a long time!! Thanks for sharing.

Woodbury, CTSolitude, Relaxation and the Beach !
Left on 07/12/2011 for a stay in July 2011
If you are looking for a quiet, restful vacation that will take you away from stress, this is it. This home was neat as a pin upon our arrival. It is set back from the beach (5-10 min walk) and is very private. At night it is so peaceful after a day at the beach. The home has everything you would need and everything worked perfectly. I would caution that there are alot of ticks in the area and we did spend a fair amount of time checking ourselves for them but that is a minor thing. The 4WD beach is wonderful and much less crowded than the public beaches (as you would expect). If you have never been here before, when you first enter the beach off of the paved road re-set your trip odometer - the 20 mile marker for the turn-off for this home is 7 miles from that point. Enjoy !

Everything about this vacation rental was perfect. The communication with the owners, the immaculate condition we found the cottage in, the location and the comfort and appointment of the property - all perfect. The beach is beautiful and especially lovely in early morning or near sunset. I think perhaps, our dog had the best time of all. Thanks Flip and Melody!

Great Barrington MA USAIf perfection was possible, then our time here was perfect.
Left on 07/07/2011 for a stay in June 2011
If perfection was possible, then our time here was perfect. No question about it, 5-star across the board.
We are a family of three, two parents with a child of six who, when we arrived, found Flip's home clean, comfortable, and well appointed. Immediately, my wife, child, and I fell into our home for the week relaxed and easy. And horses? We hoped our six year-old would have a chance to see a few before the week was up - but they visited daily! Bunches of 'em! Strolled gently through the yard ~ so exciting!
And bringing up the beach, it was a nice walk away, but we opted to drive the car and park on the beach like the experienced. It's much easier to move the supplies that way. There were friendly polite families dotted along the beach with ample room to share the clean white sand. In general, my wife and I agreed that what characterizes the place best is moderation - there is just enough of everything without too much of anything. The area is still very natural and little developed, but conveniences such as markets, shops, restaurants, and emergency services are near-by. Without question we would come again. In fact, my daughter misses our "beach home” often now that we are home. It was a perfect, if we can say so, vacation.
One thing to mention, the approach to the house includes a fun few miles driving on the beach becuase there is not an official road. This is exciting if you aren't used to it - but take Flip's word for it when he says that it can be "stressful” to drive at high-tide. If there were anything we would change the next time we come it would be to plan to arrive during the day when the tide is down - or stop somewhere and stay the night so that we arrive with low tide and daylight. The locals are kind to us Yankee visitors stuck in the dunes. But next time we follow Flip's understated advice.Response from Flip Harrison - 07/12/2011

Mel and I are glad you had a great time. It's so hard to arrange for those horses to hang around the house like that! We hope you'll take the time to come visit us again. We know there are a lot of choices out there and we very much appreciate your choosing Wash Woods for your vacation!

Boone, NCFabulous Outer Banks Vacation!
Left on 05/24/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We found this property to be isolated enough to be off the beaten path but only a short walk away from the beach. We visited during the off season - Corolla was mostly shut down so only a few places open to eat and the 4WD area was mostly deserted. Saw wild horses on numerous occasions, went for beach runs and shell hunting. The dogs had a fabulous time on the beach with nobody else around to bother us. The house was very comfortable and well-stocked. We would like to visit again during the summertime and will likely rent this house again - this time we'll plan trips into town around high tide a little better!

Washwoods was the perfect place for me and my wife, right from the start we got to see horses on the ride up the beach. The secluded cottage was spotless and so nice. We stayed here for a week in November. We were greeted with a welcome box of chocolates and bottle of wine to get our stay started. The location was perfect and very secluded, exactly what we were looking for. You are practically right off the beach, but tucked back enough so you can enjoy the foresty area and wildlife in the backyard. The hot tub is perfect for late night star gazing, there are plenty of places to hike and the town is a short drive away. It was absolutely beautiful and we loved staying here, we would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a private getaway spot.

This place was perfect for us! We loved that it was so secluded but also close to the beach. The drive in on the 4 wheel drive beach was definately an adventure...but we made it!!! However, there were several folks that didn't and we even pulled 3 vehicles out with our new tow rope while we we there:) Every day held new surprises for us, seeing the wild horses and even a white deer. The beach was great and the ocean was perfect. The hot tub on the back porch was also a plus...we enjoyed using it both day and night...along side the cute little tree frogs. We played cards and board games on the one day that it rained, and we let dad win at Rummy every time:) We can't wait to go back!!!

I've been to the Outerbanks several times but this was the best. We usually stay in one of the big houses in duck but we didn't have enough people to get one this time so we looked for something less expensive. When you stay here you don't have to sit in the house at night, you can drive one the beach and on the sandy roads under the trees! There are so many animals to see. It was just great! The house was really nice and in a perfect spot. It was also nice to be able to drive to the beach with all your stuff instead of carrying it. I'm so sad to be home... Already planning on going back next July!

Took a "dude's" trip with a few guys from our baseball team. The place was great. And I could see using this as a great romantic getaway as well. Hot tub on the deck, private (really no one around!) But still with the amenities you need.
Make sure you have a 4x4, as we got there after a Nor'easter and there was some fun puddles on the roads exploring!
