I'm usually not one to write a negative review, but I feel a responsibility to in this case, to prevent other people from being in our position. This was our first time in the Outer Banks and we loved Corolla and all the OBX had to offer. The house was another story. When we arrived, we immediately noticed a horrible smell and discovered it was the 4 full bins of trash (including 2 that were designated for recycling) that had not been picked up that day. The next trash day was Wed. so we had to deal with the stench for 5 days! We also immediately noticed a pile of 5 broken adirondack chairs on the sidewalk and cigarette butts all over the sidewalk that we had to keep reminding our kids not to pick up. When we got into the house, the carpets were soaked (it took 2 days for them to dry out) and my 3 year old son and my brother-in-law slipped and fell down the stairs the first night we were there. When we walked into the kitchen, we noticed a shattered window and a screen in another window missing. Screens in the screened-in porch were falling out and therefore didn't keep out the bugs at all. There were also 3 more broken chairs on the porch. The upstairs of the house had a funky smell and the dishwasher was broken into pieces. When my husband called to mention everything, they said the window would be replaced and they'd bring some new chairs over. They didn't offer an explanation (we think maybe there was a house-party gone wrong the night before???) or apology for the condition of the house. When I called later in the week to ask what to do about the trash (there wasn't any room for our trash since the bins were full before we even got there), the receptionist from Elan put me on hold 3 times just in the minute it took me to explain or situation and was so condescending! I really felt like Elan knew about all of the issues -but didn't offer any kind of apology or consolation. We loved the OBX and plan to return annually, but we will not use Elan again. Read more
We do apologize for any inconvenience of the house during your vacation and we certainly apologize if you felt that you got less than friendly service when you called our office. There were unfortunately issues at this home the week prior to your arrival that could not be fixed in time for your arrival. However, that is still no excuse for your issues. I would love for you to give Elan Vacations another chance to make up for your inconvenience. If you want to book another home for 2013, please ask for Jennie and we can give you a 5% discount to return. Again, I do apologize and hope that you come back again!
