I have been renting in OBX for years...This is without a doubt, the nicest house I have stayed in yet. I hate to recommend it too highly in case they read this and decide to up the price--or worse, it becomes so popular I can't get it!
Seriously, it is a terrific house for a dog lover as it has a nice patch of grass for Rover to do his duty! Very clean, comfie furniture, modern kitchen, nicely appointed with LCD TVs, a great library, game system, and WiFi which came in handy considering the weather was horrible the entire time we were there. Also has a hot tub, and pool which we hardly used due to the weather--wish they could control that too!
Short walk to the beach and walking distance to Timbuck II's shops and great restaurants. What more could you want?

We have rented for six years, trying to find the best house for our families needs. A Bright Star was very disappointing for the price, we have stayed in much nicer homes for considerably less. We wanted to stay here because it had a pool, I'm sure the reason, for the jump in price. It had good space, but very little extras, for us it is the little things that the owners think to provide that we missed, well equipped kitchens, places to hang clothes and towels, bikes were listed, but all rusted, enough comfortable seating to accommadate the number of people that could sleep there. Good location and nice neighborhood.
I was disappointed with the linen company. The top bunks (which are the hardest to make) we not made and we didn't know about it until late the first night we went to put the boys to bed. After an 11 hour drive that stated at 4am, the day at the beach, unpacking, this was the last thing we wanted to do at midnight.
We had ants in both the downstairs bathroom and the upstairs bathroom. The shower curtain in the middle bathroom had a line of black mold at the bottom. (these are dirt cheap and would have made the place seem more clean.
Advertising bike and beach chairs made me think they might be useable items. The bikes need repaired and the chairs need thrown out. We started out the first night going to grill. The grill shot flames up through the middle of an old dirty looking grill. This was replaced quickly after us calling.
The upper end of the stair railing leading from the bottom floor to the middle floor was loose and needs repaired.
There needs to be blinds on the door into the bottom bedroom from the pool area. Due to the fact that it is on the ground level intoa bedroom, privacy is an issue. We taped a garbage bag over it at night. The floor in the entrance way and bedroom of bottom floor is a mess. I can't believe there isn't something that can clean the black off of the tile. It's the first thing I saw when we walked in and was immediately disappointed.
The sliding door to the deck off of the middle floor bedroom didn't shut properly. The were broken missing slats that also didn't provide the privacy necessary for a bedroom.
I liked the location and ease to the beach. I loved the kitchen and livnig area upstairs. The decking and screaned in porch were nice.
We have vacation in the outer banks at least 10 time and this was the only house that I felt didn't get attention. It seems that the owner needs to go stay there and take a look around to see what needs done.

We have been traveling to the Outer Banks for over 20 years and have stayed in several homes all of which we have rented from Southern Shores. This house was very neat, tidy and clean; and we felt right at home. The issues our family had with the house was it's size and with the soft spa. The house sleeps 12 (we had 9 adults and 3 children)and things were a little tight espcially in the kitchen and great room; there were not enough seats for everyone! As for the soft spa it was not warm and needed to be cleaned so we did not use it.
