This light-filled and airy oceanfront home offers spectacular views from every room. Fall to sleep to the sound of the surf and wake up to the sight of the waves. Sit on your deck and look for the occasional school of dolphins. Enjoy the wide beach for swimming, fishing, or just lazing in the sun.
Shore Leave: beautiful views and great floor plan (and rock-hard

We would give this beach house 4.5 stars except for very poor comfort ratings. In this regard, we were miserable: 1) All beds have rock-hard "extra-firm orthopedic" mattresses. Even the children could not endure their hard beds and we found them every morning, sleeping on the couches instead. My husband and I had to steal every extra pillow in the house and craft a "mattress topper" out of them to get through the week. 2) Not a single comfy chair in the entire house to sit and read a book. 3) Only weathered splintered wood-plank chairs and chaises on the deck with no cushions -- no accommodation whatever to sit comfortably and read, or otherwise enjoy the views.
Hey, Capt'n Shore Leave - can't you do a little better by your guests? After all, we travel as families, very long distances by car, to come to your beach house with high hopes of a nice family vacation - maybe just once a year if we're lucky. How about some comfy beds, at least?
We are sorry that you found the beds uncomfortable. Our internal guest surveys indicate that most guests in this home have rated the "Bed Comfort" from "Good" to "Excellent". Of course, this rating is based on personal preference, and we realize that not everyone will appreciate a firm mattress. Thank you for taking the time to review Shore Leave. We appreciate your input.

I stayed at Shore Leave with friends in May, and
within weeks booked it for myself for mid-October.
The house was in great condition both times, and I
much prefer Corolla to my prior stays much farther
down the beach. The house is very comfortable, the
main floor is very inviting and "social." The view
is wonderful (although we saw most rain and high
surf, :-/). And since we were inside for much of
the week, the great, well-equipped kitchen fit our
cooking, wining and dining needs. Shore leave is
not a luxe as some of its neighbors just to the
north, but for a home right on the beach it's a
great value. I'd stay again.

Shore Leave is a great house and in a perfect spot for a group get together. Corolla was a great place to vacation because the beaches were not crowded and there is everything you could ask for within walking distance or a short drive. Southern Shores was a great Realitor and truly recommend them. Would stay with them again

Loved being on the beach. House was very nicely furnished and equipped. The only thing we were not happy with was the over flowing garbage cans left behind by previous tenants. We had nowhere to go with our garbage for 3 days. There was also a good amount of garbage outside on the grounds around the house. There were also VERY dirty pots, pans and dishes left by previous tenants.

The house is spacious and well-furnished. The kitchen was very well-equipped for large family gatherings. there were plenty of large serving dishes, glasses (including wine and champagne), frying pans, large pots, cutting boards, plates, cups, bowls and even a lettuce spinner.
The sofa bed in the downstairs family room was broken so the rental agency supplied us with two cots which worked fine. Overall, the beds were on the cheap side and the deck furniture was lacking.
The ony drawnback was the path through the dunes to the ocean. We were told by a neighbor that we weren't allowed to use the path and should use the public access which was inconvient.
The rental agency. Southern Shores, was wonderful. They immediately addresed all concerns -- day and night!

This was our first time to the OBX and the first time with the whole vacation home rental experience. Overall the house was nice.
Things we liked BEST:
-The view is awesome!
-Kitchen very well appointed, cooked 3 nights for 10 people and had everything a chef could need
-Bathrooms for each bedroom a big plus
-Beach is GREAT
-Deck is nice, we spent a lot of time out there
-Plenty of space, airy and open, we had 6 adults + 4 kids and we never felt on top of each other
Things we liked LEAST:
-the path to the beach is up and over the dunes on the sand, difficult for little kids (like 3 yrs old) to climb and when the sand is hot? No way. Also my dad is slightly disabled so he couldn't use the path, either. A public walkway is very close by, but still, this house should have a wooded pathway from the deck to the beach.
-the grill was old. This house should have a gas grill on the deck.
-the air conditioning is not good. The top floor is really hot and muggy no matter how low you set the thermostat, while the bottom floor would be freezing. The master bedroom had no air conditioning and was like a sauna.
-the ice maker was really annoying (loud)
-some appliances like the coffee maker and TV could use updating
-the cleaning people were still there at 4 when we arrived, and the house could have been MUCH cleaner
-I have a 1 yr old and next time I would get a house that had a crib and high chair so I didn't have to bring my own.
We wouldn't stay at this house again only because we would like to have a pool and a better path to the beach (again, for my dad). Outside of these two issues, we liked the house a lot, the rental company was great, and we had a really awesome week. We'll be returning for sure to the Outer Banks!

Our stay was wonderful. The house is beautiful. I would deffinately stay again. The only complaint I had was the bedroom on the top level was hot. No matter how low the thermostat was set, it seemed that the vent was not working properly. Also, outside surrounding the house was quite a bit of poison oak. My children were looking for treasures and ended up with a rash. Other than that everything was great. Shouthern Shores Realty provided great service and hospitality. Thank You for sharing this home with our family.

This is an incredibly beautiful and affordable (especially off season)rental. The home is modern and well designed with floor to ceiling windows which offer panoramic views of the ocean. The wood burning fire place is a huge plus for cool nights off season. There's a Harris Teeter a quarter mile up the road, which is very convenient. The interior design is modern and very tastefully done. The kitchen is fully equipped with just about everything a professional chef would need. My only complaint about the rental are the badly damaged teflon frying pans which are a health hazard and should be replaced. The description of this house, says that there is a grill, however, this is a charcoal grill that is always rusty and dirty when I arrive. It is in the driveway, which is two flights of stairs below the kitchen and very inconvenient. A real pain in the @$$ trying to carry plates of food and my margarita up and down the stairs at the same time. The owners should replace this with a gas grill on the deck, which would be more accessible to the kitchen. Overall our experience with the home was superb and we will be planning our third trip there again next year. Highly recommended.

We chose this house because it is ocean front and has one bathroom per bedroom, which was important to us as a group of older adults. Whether you want to sit and look at the ocean, walk on the beach, or drive to nearby attractions, this house is ideal. The kitchen is well equipped and everything was in good repair. Note that although the website cites a path to beach, walking across the dunes is not allowed. There is a nearby access which works just great. We highly recommend this house!

We had a wonderful time at Shore Leave and were pleased the moment we pulled up. The house sits on the beach and is light, and airy with big windows all over facing the ocean. It is spacious and 2 families fit comfortably. The kitchen and family room are great, and fun to hang out in while you watch the waves.
There is not a 'boardwalk' to the beach (sandy path) from the house and the sand gets very hot, so you need to be sure to wear sandals/flops etc..

Extended family of six adults and four children found house to be very comfortable and accomodating. Cozy enough to be together when we wanted to be, spacious enough to find some space for being alone. Beach is not crowded but not isolated. Just about perfect for a family vacation.

The house was great, but we were not happy with the realty service. We had a plumbing problem during our stay (not major; easily fixable) but it took 4 - 5 phone calls over 3 days to the rental service to get a plumber to visit. The first two were ignored; the third time they sent an AC technician.
We all liked the house very much and would recommend it.
Now can you do something about that weekend traffic ......

large, has everything it says in the description BUT no window coverings allow people to look in, esp. at night. The refrigerator icemaker was not hooked up because the property boasted an "industrial icemaker" THAT DID NOT WORK and could not be fixed during the week we were there. Southern Shores told us we'd be reimbursed for ice we bought but that was a major inconvenience and since we left before SS opened on the day we left, there was no way of giving receipts to anyone.
