Our group was traveling with 2 infants (crawling), 2 toddlers,6 adults and 2 dogs. The first thing we noticed upon walking up the deck steps was that the openings of the railings were very wide and both dogs/children could fall through. So if you are traveling with small children and small dogs, I do not recommend this rental. Secondly, as soon as we walked into the home, it smelled like dog pee and the house was not cleaned (dog hair everywhere). I immediately began vacumming the entire place as we had two crawling infants. The pool area and hot tub were nice. There are two entrances to get into the pool area. One has a latch while the other on the ground floor did not. Needless to say a child could easily wander into the pool area. The gate on the ground floor needs a working lock to keep small children out. Overall the setup and open floor plan of the house was great. The place definitely needs major updating of furniture and appliances (fridge wouldn't close and dishwasher sounded like a train when it was on). There also needs to be adequate internet service. One reason we picked this house because it advertised internet. It never worked all week. We did call the realtor company and they sent someone out but he didn't get it to work. The walk to the beach was about 3 blocks but the steps getting up over the dune are terrible if you have a stroller or cart of beach stuff.
Although the location was great and size of the house met our needs, I would not stay here again because of the overall safety issues and dated furniture/appliances in the home.Response from Seaside Vacations* - 08/21/2012

Our first impression of Gimme Shelter was not a good one. Carpets did not appear clean, one room had 2 dirty towels hanging in the closet, ants on windowsill of master bedroom and 2nd floor bedroom.
This home needs a major update. Carpets are worn, mattresses on the beds need to be replaced.
When we contacted Seaside Vacations about the problems they sent us the housecleaner the next day and she dropped off a new vacuum.
Internet service was not working. Two members of our family were working while on vacation and had a difficult time connecting. We contacted Seaside Vacations and they sent someone out to check the problem.
Despite the minor problems we encountered, being together with our family and grandchildren was a wonderful time!

The service from seaside Vacations was outstanding. Every time I called they were quick, courteous, and responsive to my needs. I thank them all very much. Our 10 family members were nicely accomodated in this home. The kitchen and family room had an open floor plan. The location of this home is a three block walk to the beach. Not bad. The things we did not like started in the kitchen. The dishwasher leaked, and the repair man said it needs to be uppgraded.All the matress need to be changed. The whole family complained about the poor quality. The deck outside is in much needed repair with nails and pieces of wood sticking out enough to give one a nice slash in the foot. The pool area is in need of repair as pool tiles were coming off the side of the pool, the concrete was cracking, half the pool lighting was out, and most of the chairs were cracked and in bad shape.

Service from staff was good. The home was adequate though many things were in need of repair.Outdoor furniture was in very poor condition. When we first arrived the yard looked as though it hadn't been mowed in months and it did not make agood appearance. The beds were less than desirable. The location was great.

We enjoyed this clean home, the only complaint is the horribly out of date furniture :) but that is quite all right as you spend most of your time at the beach! Perfect location to the beach and in a quiet area where you aren't bombarded by tourism but there is some when you need it!

The house had wonderful space but is in need of updating; beds not comfortable( the king bed was ok- everyone else complained, furniture worn and also uncomfortable; pool was lovely but gate does not open easliy as it is old and warped; walk to the beach was easy with the new Coral Walkway; dealing with Seaside was very easy and they were attentive in helping to find us a house to accomodate our family and dogs. The Seaside newsletters were nice and the 'what to bring' was helpful.

A nice vacation home with a good location. We loved the convenience of being close to the beach access. The dining area/great room was spacious and the bedrooms were nice. (the sofa bed, however was broken) Also, some of the pots and pans/utnsils were dirty. The housekeeping crew was just getting started when it was time for us to check in. Overall,though, it is a nice property and we enjoyed our stay.

Our vacation at Gimme Shelter in Corolla, NC was excellent. We loved the laid back enviornment. The house is located in a small quiet residential community with a short 5 minute walk to the beach. Grocery stores, restaurants, movie theatre, ice cream shops, etc are only a 3 mile drive away. I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family. There was plenty to do, we rented kyaks and took them out from the beach and dolphins were all around, coming up right next to us. At night we took the kids up onto the beach with flash lights and saw the hundreds of crabs that come out at night to eat, they loved watching them scurry around. Two excellent places to visit are "Stonies" for ice cream and "SunDogs" for burgers. Great vacation!

I have stayed in better. but this was ok refrig would not staying closed they came out and told me just to shut it harder... and I thought the master bedroom was on the main floor, but it was a smaller bed big bath on the middle level...I do think seaside should give you a chance to check in early if possible...We were there house not ready and when the guy came for frig told us the house had not been rented the week before...if know would have paid alittle to go in early...

We really enjoyed our week at this home. There are really nice porches to sit out on. It was a little far from the beach for my mom, that has a hard time walking because of her health, so we drove her down and dropped her off and then went back and walked down ourselves. It was a little cramped sleeping with 16 people, and we could probably have used another bathroom, but nothing that made it unbearable. There was room to get away from each other if we wanted to. The only negative thing that I could say was that the internet service was not the best. It was slow and it kept kicking us off line. However, we were there to relax, so that was probably a good thing. I would definitely go again. The aread was lovely and so was the house!!

We found Gimme Shelter to be fully outfitted with just about everything we needed. We had a problem with the wifi but the office was able to set it up for us within 24 hrs. I found the lighting in the kitchen not sufficient for cooking when it started to get dark. Would recommend some better lighting in there. The pool and hot tub was clean and enjoyable. Pool guy came around and cleaned it midweek.

New location for picking up the keys is so much better!!
The service was great until we had a problem with the lights, they were not working for more than 4hours. I got one call to see what is going on and then that was it, no follow up to see if everything is ok or if it got fixed.
The home was great! We had a lot of fun with the pool and hot tub, and if we didnt want to be outside there were many places you can go relax in the house. The house was absolutely wonderful in location, cleanliness and comfort. Just perfect for the group size we had.
Only one negative about the whole experience...Check-In. The receipt and directions on the form had us go directly to the Currituck office. Of course it was still closed in May. I had called to find out if the office would be open past 5:00 as we were arriving late. I was told yes the office would be open until...the Kitty Hawk office was. Obviously we had crossed wires on the phone. When I called the Kitty Hawk office at about 6:40 I was politely told I could come back down the highway and pick up the keys. At that point we were not in the mood to run back down the road to Kitty Hawk and make the journey all the way back to Currituck. We stayed the night with friends instead.
Recommendation: Quality Control your your computer generated reservation forms/receipt and ensure the proper office location is listed. If the Currituck office is not open it should not be included on the form.
Otherwise, we enjoyed the stay...

First, the original house we booked had to be cancelled b/c of some owner issues.
Then this house was booked and was in fact a nice, comfortable, well-equipped home.
However, upon our arrival to the house we were unable to get into the driveway due to drainage work being done and the driveway blocked by a 12" pipe. It took until after 5:30 to get into the driveway.
Also, the hot-tub was not working during our visit. A lost ammenity in cool weather - not a good thing.
Another family within our group in Corolla that same time period had to change their house the day before arrival.
I doubt seriously I would ever lease from Seaside again.

Gimmie Shelter was well decorated and very comfortable. We were pleased with the house and were greatful to have such a nice home that was pet friendly. We took our 2 chocolate labs and I think they enjoyed vacation even more then we did! Our only complaint was that the wifi didn't work. We were unable to access the internet at all. Beach access was close and we were conviently located to the shoping centers. It was quiet and safe, our teens were able to do alot on their own. We will definately be back to OBX!!

We had a great time in Corolla in Gimme Shelter. We had a group of 10, and had plenty enough room. The pool & hot tub were great, and only a short walk or bike ride to the beach & shopping/sound. The only problem we had was with the internet connection. Couldn't get into the wireless account at the house, so had to purchase wireless service for the week. Which wouldn't have been bad...except it was a very poor connection. Overall though - a good experience and we would come back (as long as I could hook up to the internet! - work doesn't stop when I'm away unfortunately!)

Family-oriented, pet-friendly home with a nice great room/kitchen area. Well-priced with many amenities, the kids loved being separate from the adults and swimming in the pool. Quiet street, shaded decks with a swing, and friendly neighbors. Convenient to shopping and restaurants, but a bit far from the beach with kids and equipment. Lifeguarded beach is a plus with kids, and beach is not crowded. Would recommend strongly to multi-family groups.

The house itself was very nice along with the hot tub & pool area.I found out near the end of the week that the other family staying with us said the middle floor was very hot & AC didn't seem to work-I told them we should have let the realty company know that as soon as they noticed it, so that was not Seaside Vacations fault.The biggest issue we had was the home had been advertised as having free wireless internet service, so we brought four laptops.One young person in our group needed internet access during the week because she is home schooled & needed to take some tests.When we tried to get online the day after we arrived, we couldn't so called Seaside Vacations office for help.The person who talked to us said the house was NOT advertised as having internet access.We explained that it had been advertised, and that we saw a router in the laundry room, but couldn't get our laptops to work.The realty employee continued to INSIST that the house did not have internet access.We kept trying to figure out how to access the internet, then called the realty office again on the third day of our stay. The realty staff person again insisted that the house did NOT have internet access, but we referred them to the web site description which said it did have wireless high speed internet. They then said they would call the owner of the house about it and call us back.They did NOT call back.The fourth day of our stay, we called the Seaside Vacations office again, and begged for them to find out how we could access the internet.Again, this staff person insisted that the house did NOT have internet access, we went through the whole explanation again, referred them to the website description of the house, and they said, "Well, I'll be-I didn't know it had internet access".This person called the owner of the home & DID call back & gave us codes to use to access the internet.POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE-never even offered a "sorry" for the inconvenience or for treating us like fools!!

The staff at the rental agency was very helpful from my first contact. I had some special requests for size and location and they were met.
Had a A/C problem that was corrected within 10 hrs. I recommend renting through Seaside Vacations.
Gimme Shelter is laid out well, and entertains great.

Comfortable and spacious home for 8-10 but needs a little updating. It's a long walk to the beach but there is parking available one block from the beach.
