House was showing signs of neglect - bottom level refrigerator smelled very bad, microwave door and frame was broken and I thought it was unsafe around my children, wash machine was broken, light bulbs out. While the house location is nice, the house itself proved to be a terrible choice for our family.

We are not used to seeing poor reviews on this property as you can see from other reviews here the property is generally regarded as an excellent value with beautiful ocean views, easy beach access, and it comfortably sleeps 18.
I'm happy to report that after you reported the washer not working that it was replaced with a new one a few days later, and the microwave has also been taken care of. Light bulbs do sometimes burn out, and we would have been happy to replace any that burned out during your stay had we known about that.
Stillwater is generally considered to be a tremendous value with upscale amenities, and we are disappointed that you feel you made a bad choice with this outstanding property.

Great location, across from beach access! I loved all the baby equipment: baby gates, crib, pack n play, high chair, booster & baby travel swing. Heated pool was the best thing in the world! The kids needed that as the May weather was a tad chilly. Beautiful house with lots of room!

Everything about Stillwater is great, amenities, pool, hot tub, kitchen, parking, etc. And the ocean view with great distance from beach. The rental office personnel are always very helpful & courteous. We will be renting from your company every year & maybe more often each year!

We had a wonderful time staying at Stillwater. Upon moving in, we found that 2 of the sliding glass doors wouldn't lock. Both were fixed within a day of us calling to report the problem. We also had trouble with the pool filter, but a service man was sent out right away, the problem diagnosed, and a new filter was ordered and installed within a couple days.
The house itself was gorgeous. Very spacious. There were eighteen people in our group, and we all had plenty of room to move about. The only complaint we had was that the kitchen could use 2 to 4 more barstools, (there is plenty of room at the counter) and the kitchen wasn't very well equiped. One of the coffeemakers wouldn't work. None of the food storage containers had lids to fit, and the lids that were there had no containers.
The location was wonderful, with the beach access right across the street. We all loved the pool, hot tub, and wrap around decks. The pool table was a popular gathering spot in the evenings, and we really enjoyed having the horseshoe pit. This was the first time we'd had a house with an elevator, and we'll never rent a house without one again.
Overall, the house was very comfortable, and the service was great. We were disappointed that the house is advertised as "sleeps 16" but there was only seating in the kichen for 14. The location was the best, with the beach so close. We'll definetly consider renting Stillwater again. -

We were originally scheduled to stay in another house. Upon arrival at the other property we found it to be filthy. We were moved to "Stillwater" and were very happy. The elevator was great for bringing in bags and groceries. Thank You

Huge, lovely pool and lots of decks! The kitchen is well-appointed and the
house layout is spacious. The elevator made it much easier for a family
member who has mobility issues. We enjoyed the proximity to the beach,
hearing the surf and having just a short walk across the street. After 15 years
of visits to the OBX, this is one house that we will consider renting again. -

Very enjoyable vacation. House was big enough so everyone could be happy doing their own thing- beach, pool, relaxing, reading, etc. Elevator worked well and was necessary for the "grandmas" traveling with us. The home was convenient to beach. Furnishings adequate, carpeting stained. House was not cleaned well upon arrival but we were surprised by appearance of cleaning crew at the middle of our 2 week stay. They were very thorough and even provided clean linens.

This home is magnificent. It has everything you could ever want or need for the perfect extended family vacation. As annual renters, we love it.
However, this year we were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the house. While check in is 4PM, the cleaners were still there until 5:30PM. The outdoor shower and bathroom were never cleaned and both had trash in them and there was trash left on the both decks. In addition, the kitchen floor was filthy as it was not swept or mopped and the great room carpet was vacummed spairingly.
As friends of the owners, we know they would be very disappointed that the house was in this kind of shape upon our arrival.
Of course we will return to Stillwater as we love it but hope to see a large improvement related to the cleaning service for next year.Response from Outer Banks Blue - 08/28/2009

Thank you for your positive comments about Stillwater. We are glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay.
We apologize that the cleaning did not meet your expectations. The cleaning crew was only assigned your house to do the day of your arrival, and was told that you were a friend of the owner so they would do some extra items to ensure the house was just right. It was never our intention to have them there past your check in time, nor that they would miss the outdoor shower.
We will endeavor to improve the execution of our cleaning service in the future.

Stillwater is a lovely place. It's so close to the water and we all enjoyed sitting on the front porch and watching the ocean. The elevator is a boon when arriving and departing, and as we always eat in, the well-appointed kitchen was great -- everything we needed. And having the beds all made when we arrived was a most welcomed treat. It took 3 of us to work the DVD -- if someone could leave instructions on the coffee table, it would be most helpful.
The Outerbanks Blue staff (Crystal) was very professional and helpful. I appreciated the call the week before we were due to make sure we didn't have any last minute questions. When we arrived, there was a problem with the icemaker, and Ryan came promptly after we called and made everything right. Nice people, good attention. Thanks to all.
Everything was clean and neat when we arrived, but the couches could use a wash as could the carpet in the great room.
We look forward to 2010 when we plan to rent Stillwater for another week -- just wish it could be 2 weeks! -

I reserved this house for a multi-generational family vacation. My husband's parents, my parents, my grandmother, and my children all got to spend a week together sharing and making memories. The house had everything we could have needed, including the elevator that was so appreciated. The area was quiet, clean, and close to restaurants and shops. The local grocery was only a few minutes from the house as well. The semi-oceanfront status of the house did not impede our view of the beautiful sunrises each morning and was so convenient to the beach access (just across the street). Everyone had room to enjoy themselves. We were there just before the peak season and still had plenty to do (lighthouses, aquariums, shopping, dining out, walking along the beach and collecting shells, kites..etc). It was a wonderful time spent in wonderful home with my family.
