Chesapeake City, MDGreat location, needs updating for that beachy feel.
Left on 08/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Plus: The proximity to beach, shopping, and entertainment is awesome...especially with little kids and plenty to carry to the beach.
Minus: No deck furniture on any of the outside decks. Liner in pool is badly wrinkled and pool was losing water (in addition to evaporation). House smelled like a wet dog when we opened the door, so that wasn't very inviting. (Febreeze helped some.) The house needs serious TLC and updating. Bed spreads were worn/stained. All the tvs were 12", except the one in the main living room, which was a whopping 22". -

I would have to agree with the other review. Of all the homes I have ever stayed at in OBX, this one was by far the worst. When I am on vacation, I like to be in a home nicer than my own so I can really relax. I did not feel that way at all when I stayed here. Everything is old, there is hardly any outdoor furniture on the decks, the beds are terrible, and the water...the house has well water (which we have at home as well), but they obviously don't use a softener or filter as it smells terrible, turned all our white sheets and clothes that we washed brown from the iron, and runs brown on occasion. The tubs are all stained from the water as well. We brought a Wii for the kids, but the one tv and radio downstairs are not from this century, and the flat screen upstairs is about the same size as my computer screen. Anyway, for the money we spent, I would rate this home very average. I would definitely say that all of us, as we arrived and checked out the home, felt some disappointment with the house.
However, the proximity to the beach is nice (about 2 blocks). The house has wifi. The outdoor dining table is nice and enclosed to keep bugs out. The pool is nice, but needs the light in the pool fixed, as well as more outdoor lights for when people want to swim at night. We did enjoy our vacation, but I do would not stay here again. -

I would have to say that in my 30+ years in renting homes in the Outer Banks this by far was the worse experience. Upon arriving, we immediately noticed the pool was green which we were told was due to well water, then moving inside the amount of sand and dirt that was in the house made us within the first 15 minutes have to vacuum. Moving upstairs to the bedrooms, several had large amounts of dog hair and sand on the comforters of the beds. For a house that has large outside decks, there was no outside deck furniture. The kitchen was well equipped but offered absolutely no storage cabinets to store food in which led you to store all your groceries on the counter tops. Understanding that this is a rental unit and the owners have their belonging there as well, it was a sightly to see chain locks on cabinets, closets, fire places, which they deemed for their use only. The decor is dated and the sleeping accommodations are less than comfortable. For the price we paid, this was a huge disappointment!
