My wife and I spent 5 weeks in Casa Toucan. The backyard was wonderful. Pool was well maintained, grounds well kept and generally very peaceful. This area of Coronado has a number of second homes for Panama City residents. On holiday weekends it can be a little raucous, but the a/C was able to provide reasonable white noise at night. Since we were there for a long duration and I enjoy cooking I worked with the owner, Sarah, to make the kitchen area more functional. During our stay we were able to cook a number of meals that we could share with the other residents. We even had a nice cookout and included Luis, Vilma and her son. Coronado beach is a beautiful salt and pepper beach. It was about 10 minutes from the Casa. We would walk on the beach almost every morning for at least an hour. It does get really hot in the afternoon in Coronado. That is when the backyard shade and pool felt like luxury. We had a car only one week while we were there. During that week we took trips to El Valle and down the coast to Playa Blanca. The rest of the time we would walk into the shopping district, pick up supplies and get a taxi back to the Casa. $2-$3. We would recommend this Casa. Sarah is making improvements to the property for increased curb appeal and functionality.

Freeport, BahamasOur Home away from Home in Panama!
Left on 03/20/2013 for a stay in December 2012
Arrived in Coronado after a beautiful drive from Panama City. After seeing many new sites and struggling with our terrible Spanish, it felt like coming home. The casita was very comfortable and colourful and it didn't take long to settle in with a glass of wine by the pool!
I liked that there was several other casitas and within a few days of staying there, we were good friends with the other guests.
Despite the language barrier, we found the caretakers Vilma and Luis very helpful. They were not intrusive but appeared whenever we needed something.
Every day we went out sight seeing and every evening when we came home, it really felt like coming home. How wonderful to sip a glass of wine on the patio as we shared travel tales with the fellow guests.
Aside from lunches out, we stayed "home" for dinner every night because we enjoyed the atmosphere and it suited our young son, who was happy to practice his Spanish with the caretakers and "talk" to the parrots, who amused us every day. Cooking, laundry etc was all very easy.
It was nice to be somewhere different but have all the comforts of home right there.

Casita Gaviota was neat, clean and comfortable. Private garden and pool area are beautiful, well maintaineed and a great place to relax. We really enjoyed visiting with Sarah and her other guests. The caretakers were charming yet unobtrusive. Walk to the beach easy and location good for sightseeing. Car helpful, but not essential.

Penticton, CanadaTotally overrated !
Left on 03/12/2013 for a stay in January 2013
Cannot understand how this property has been rated a five. We stayed in Toucan casita. No hot water, TV didn't work, pool only worked half the time, property is over run with feral cats, out door kitchen is in disrepair, wash machine didn't work properly and we found the caretaker quite unfriendly. Only redeeming feature is the nice yard. Would not stay here again.

Thank you for your feedback. It arrived on this site 2 months after your
stay, the items have long since been rectified and fixed.
I take my guests feedback and suggestions very seriously and am always
striving to improve my property. Your points about the hot water and
missing kitchen items were brought to my attention from the following
guests which was very helpful as we were able to fix promptly.
Thank you flipkey for allowing me to address each point:
- I was not personally on property when these guests stayed. I do
often travel, which is why I have not only 2 caretakers on site to take
care of the grounds and the guests, but also 2 english speaking property
managers that can be emailed/called anytime in case of communication
barriers on property. I even provide cell phones in the casitas for the
guests to use. None of the items above were brought to anybody’s attention
during this guest's stay
- TV needs to be on channel 3. For the cable box to work and provide all
the extra channels, somehow it was changed to a different channel, again,
an easy fix if we know about it.
- My caretakers are the most trustworthy, loyal, lovely people and
every single guest (until now) has gushed over their kindness. This
particular week, my caretaker had been hospitalized, and probably was not
at her smiley best.. but she still was able to get her work done every day.
She never taken a sick day in the 7 years here. I wonder if a language
barrier is taken as unfriendliness. Onsite caretakers are Spanish speaking
only but are always keen to anticipate what guests need and do very well in
understanding English/Spanglish. They try their best, and it's always nice
when guests try and speak a little spanish also.
- - Hot water heater simply needed new batteries, missing kitchen
items replaced and washing machine is fine, it just takes a while to fill
-
- This is Panama.. we have many beautiful animals/birds/iguanas There
is a sweet kitty that occasionally passes through. I would not say, nor
has any other guest said the property is “overrun”, it is simply not the
case. Guests are encouraged not to leave food outside. This is standard
and obvious in all tropical countries. This is first comment I’ve received
like this, normally my guests are gushing over the hummingbirds and
butterflies who frequent my lovely flowers and plants. My personal
favourites are the gheckos
I currently have a wonderful couple renting this studio, with outdoor
kitchen for 5 weeks. They are cooking (gourmet!) every meal here and now we
have the addition of a new BBQ and more pleasing outdoor cupboards, new
pots/pans etc... Just yesterday, they told me they really feel at home
here and love the property .. and they are well traveled long stay guests
all over the world. They think of my onsite caretakers like family and
have been so kind to them, even making a big meal for all of us to enjoy.
Such a great atmosphere here!
I feel very sad that these folks did not communicate with my or my property
manager directly, but chose to wrote a negative review over 2 months after
their departure. I feel I offered them great service from my prompt reply
to their original reservation request, including special concessions not
normally given so they could be here with their friends who had rented the
other casita for a longer time period.
I host approximately 50 guests per year.. my track record and good ratings
speak for themselves. I have a very close and special relationship with my
renters, and many become lifelong friends. Tropical properties have
challenges with heat and humidity at certain times of the year and for this
reason, are always a work in progress. I along with my onsite and offsite
team of professional and caring ladies, continue to purchase, upgrade,
mend.. everything expected (and far beyond) for a rental property. No
surprise that so many guests return every year and refer me to their
friends and colleagues.
Because of the volume of renters, things do get broken. Sometimes we miss
it on the spot, so we do appreciate “constructive” criticism, which in my
mind is defined as feedback given directly and offered at the time so we
have a chance to rectify.
I invite every guest to make direct contact with me, the owner, for their
future reservations. I am happy to call them by phone and share
photos/videos etc of my property. The photos on this ad depict my property
honestly and realistically. I have added recent photos of the studio with
outdoor kitchen option to this site ..which is a very cozy and affordable
option if the larger casita is not available -

Palm Harbor, FLSeaside Bohemian Chic Retreat….
Left on 12/26/2012 for a stay in December 2012
My fiancée and I stayed 3 nights in the main house and had a wonderful holiday!
Thanks to Sarah's dedication to providing exemplary customer service, the entire travel experience was seamless from start to finish.
Sarah has decorated her unique property with Caribbean art and accessories that she has acquired during her many travels which conveys a comfortable, bohemian vibe. The casitas are fully equipped and for those workaholics who desire to connect to the outside world via internet while on holiday will be delighted with the high speed internet connection. We never even bothered to turn on the TV!
The landscaping and pool is gorgeous! We lounged for hours in the hammock and patio which has an outdoor kitchen. The secluded beach is a 10 minute walk and golf courses, restaurants, bars as well as a 24hr super market and bus stop with frequent service to Panama City is located conveniently nearby. Ideally, a car rental would be an enhancement to explore the lovely area.
The casitas are self-catering, but Vilma and Luis, the live in caretakers who stay in their own Casita in front of the property, are available for extra services if needed. They are wonderful to engage in conversation if you want to find more about Panamanian culture.
It's the perfect place to unwind!

ChicagoGood value & good experience
Left on 12/20/2012 for a stay in December 2012
We stayed in the one bedroom Gaviota Casita for 10 nights and had a good experience.
Sarah was very helpful in answering all our questions before we booked and in the weeks before we arrived. She offered us an upgrade from the Toucan Studio, which we were originally looking at. We started our trip in Panama City for a couple of weeks, and Sarah even gave us tips about our Panama City stay!
The king bed was comfortable and there is a quiet air conditioning unit as well as ceiling fan in the bedroom. The TV is also in the bedroom and it has a good selection of stations The bathroom (as well as other parts of the unit) was recently remodeled. The kitchen is equipped with a good refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee pot, gas stove/oven, basic pots/pans and enough glassware/dishes/silverware for 4 people (although only 2 can reasonably sleep in the unit). There's a small table for 2 in the kitchen for eating.
The backyard is pretty with a very nice pool, which we took advantage of most afternoons. In the morning I would walk the 15 minutes to the beach, which was very nice and virtually empty.
The grounds are well maintained by Vilma and Luis who live on-site. Vilma does laundry for a very small fee (or you can do it yourself, but we didn't want to spend time doing wash). Vilma will also clean the apartment for a small fee.
We often ate dinners out, and Sarah left a list of recommendations. Definitely check out the Wednesday Expat nights at Picasso's and we also enjoyed Restaurant Bar Paraiso. Best was Los Camiones.
When we wanted to check e-mail or go online we took our laptop/ipad to the backyard and sat at one of the tables near the main house where there is good wi-fi service.
This isn't a super-upscale place (like some of the high rise condo's nearby in Coronado), but it is less expensive and comfortable -- a good value. -

Santiago de Compostela, SpainSitio ideal solo para ciertas personas
Left on 08/19/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Reston, VirginiaTrue Panamanian experience
Left on 04/09/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We stayed for one month on this property, staying in both the Toucan and Gaviota Casitas, using this as our base while exploring most of Panama. We drove or took a bus from Coronado to Panama City, the Panama Canal, David, and Boquete'. Sarah was on-site most of the time that we were there, and that was a great asset. Boy is she connected! Everything we expressed an interest in doing, she knew how to make it happen with a phone call or email. Then, after sight-seeing all day, it was so nice to come back to her beautiful refreshing pool. The bathrooms in both casitas were recently remodeled and Sarah is constantly making upgrades to the property. If you need 4 star american accommodations, this may not be for you; but if you want to experience Panama in a very comfortable environment that exudes charm, we think you will love it here as much as we did. Hope to return someday.

We stayed at Panama Sarah's home for a month and truely enjoyed our stay. The location is great and the accomodations were very comfortable. Everything you need is already there. The warmth of Vilma & Luis, the caretakers, made the stay even that much more enjoyabable. The garden & pool were fantastic and after a day of golf or beach they were perfect to come home to and cool off and relax. The other guests in the casitas were a lot of fun and we made several new friends. Sarah was always available by email and responded quickly to any questions. Great restruants and grocery stores in Coronado. Beaches were amazing for long walks and sunrises & sunsets. Recommend a car if renting for more than a few days,, lots to see up and down the coast. Enjoyed it so much we plan on going back next year for an even longer stay.

We stayed in the one bedroom casita November 2010 and May 2011. We really enjoyed the stay (one week and two weeks). The room is comfortable and has it own bath. We cooked fish on the patio several times. Sarah is the bomb, she is a font of Panama knowledge and knows everyone. A great source of info. The pool is a nice treat also. I understand the casita has a remodeled bathroom now. Can't wait to see it.
