The Captain Billy Fulford House is a rare five bedroom, three and one half bath home located at 4523 123rd Street West in the Historic Village of Cortez. This wonderful, old home features a 20' x 40' private, heated pool. Built in 1907, this 105 year old home is a wonderful piece of living history. Deep sea and inland fishing are practically on your doorstep. Enjoy the charm of Cortez Village, an active fishing village since the turn of the century. A group of 8 of us (6 adults and 2 teenagers) thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay. Tons of room, wonderful pool, mere yards from great fresh fish and off street parking to boot. Travel to the island was easy, but not necessary except for the beautiful beaches. Trolley system was great for the kids and the house was big enough that when the weather did not cooperate, we weren't on top of each other. I would definitely stay here again.

We traveled from Snowy Northern Michigan in March of 2012 to Cortez Fl to stay at the Captian Bill Fulford Home. We had 3 Families with a total of 13 of us. Not once did anyone get in anyones way.. Lots of Room in this home. Each Family had thier own Bathroom and Bedrooms. The Pool was nice and the Kids loved it. Nice Large Kitchen for 3 Mama's cooking and Lots of Table space for families to eat. The Wifi was a huge plus with all the Teenage Kids..:) Close to lots of atractions, Shoping, Dinning. We would Diff. stay at Captian Billys again if and when we returne to Cortez..:)

The service we received was great. Very nice people, willing to help with anything, made the experience outstanding. The surrounding area at Cortez Florida is great, nice beaches, shops, food. Fresh seafood can be bought right there on the docks. The place we stayed at was the "Billy Bufford Home". Nice clean place, room for a lot of people, we had 13 in our party and never to close. Its a older house and a little outdated but clean it had everything you would need. The pool in the back yard could be cleaned a little better (it had plenty of clorine but the walls and bottom were stained) and the gate to walk through to put gabbage pick up out, should be left with the tentants so they can easily set the trash cans out.

Captain Billy Fulford home is perfect for a larger group. Large living dining-enough room for everyone to be able to sit together. Large heated pool. Very charming decor-almost seemed Northwoodsy. Our daughter was getting married on the beach on anna Marie Island. We were wanting a house that would be large enough to accommodate our family, be in close proximity to all the wedding events, and be within our cost range. I had just about given up on finding such a place - until I happened upon the Captain Billy Fulford Home in Cortez Village (just across the draw bridge from anna Marie Island). After reviewing the pictures and actually corresponding via email with the owner, we decided this was exactly what we were looking for - and it proved to be just that. We loved the house. It was roomy and had that "home" feeling. Loved the location to where we needed to be for all the events of our daughter's wedding. Just wish I had longer than a week there to just relax and enjoy the area. Other than the washing machine giving me worries, and a minor kitchen faucet problem, and 1/2 bath sink drainpipe, the house was the answer to our prayers. Loved it!!! Would recommend this house to anyone needing 5 bedrooms and 3-1/2 baths.

Hate to let the cat out of the bag--but this house was amazing. Located several blocks off of the gulf and 2 doors down from the bay it is a gem. Away from the tourist hustle and bustle of anna Maria Island, but easily accesible to tourist attractions and the Gulf and white sandy beaches. Sleeping, cooking, serving, accomidations for a large group. Only complaint heated pool not heated if ambient temp outside less than 65--This didnt stop kids from using it--wonderful pool. I usually dont write these reviews--but this place was great--Fresh seafood restaruant down the block serving daily catches with way reasonable prices.

That was very old house, however, that was good.
Accomodation was good. But I got a call from property manager three days later for the $96 maintenance fee.
She told me there was stool with broken leg and they spent 3 hours to fix it. That stool was very old one and it would be cheaper than $96 even though I would buy new one.
That call made me very uncomfortable and provoking.
Though I'm not that kind of hot tempered person, but she made me unhappy for all the experience.
I'm waiting the results about that issue.

We are sorry that you were displeased with our call about the damage charges at the Captain Billy Fulford Home. While this home doesn’t normally rent for less than a week the owner did make an exception for you and allowed you to rent just two nights. While the home is 104 years old, the furniture is not. Given the fact that most of the furniture had been rearranged during your two days, the circumstances seemed like more than normal wear and tear to have three legs broken off of the furniture in such a short period. The furniture certainly was not broken prior to your arrival. While Island Vacation Properties did call and ask you to pay for these damages, you refused. The owner has always made every effort to maintain this home and furnishings and will continue to do so. Naturally he incurred the cost of repairs caused by your group. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

We have just stayed at the wonderful Captain Billy Fulford House for two weeks and it was perfect.
The home is very large, more than enough room for everybody to spread out, and also very cozy and charming. There are big enough tables for large group dinners inside and out and plenty of dishes, silverware etc. to go around. The amount of towels in the house is unbelievable, you will never run out! The large yard behind the house is beautiful and lush, the pool very private and there are always both sunny and shady spots to pick from.
One of the best parts is the location in a quiet neighborhood in Cortez, still close enough to walk or bike to the beach on Anna Maria. Originally we were looking for a rental on Anna Maria Island but were grateful not to be stuck amongst all the traffic and bustle of the island.
The one issue we had (connecting to the web, and it turned out not to be an issue at all!) was solved with a phone call to the very polite and efficient people at the rental agency. The house was very clean upon our arrival but it would have been nice to have a few more cleaning supplies to use during our stay.

The property was extremely "homey". It was perfect for the wedding trip and I would recommend it to anyone staying with a large family or multi families. It is older and that helped make it special but I would ask that a check of the electrical outlets be done. I had 2 children under age 2 and they seemed to be attracted to the outlets that had cracked covers or didn't work. The additional comments were left on our comment sheet but were quite simple.

We spent a great week at the Captain Fulford House and had a great time. We usually stay on the beach in Bradenton Florida but with taking the entire family (4 children and 3 son-in-laws) that was just impossible. We found a great house to rent with 5 bed rooms and plenty of other living space that made it really enjoyable and comfortable. We especially liked the screened porch for evening dining and being right next to the pool it made it very convenient. Also it was within walking distance just down the road to a fish pier where local fish could be purchased as well as casual outside dockside dining. This is the perfect spot for a large family it offers plenty of space and is only minutes from the Gulf beaches.
The home was very clean, with three bath rooms, air conditioned and being so large it was very comfortable.

My wife found this home several years ago while searching for historic homes to rent in the Anna Maria Island area. We had a family of 6 (now 7) at the time and we needed the space that the home provided. We were also happy that the home had a pool and was close to Holmes and Coquina beaches. It is within walking distance to many water sport activities, a small grocery store, a restaurant and the Coast Guard station. We are very familiar with the area because we have vacationed in the Anna Maria Island for the past 10 years. We enjoy the July 4th Privateer Parade among other things!
First the bad, the rental isn't the most plush or ritzy accommodation. The beds & mattresses really could use an update and many items within the home are beginning to show their age. However, what the home lacks in sparkle, it more than makes up for in charm. For example, the entranceway to the kitchen has a hand-painted mural (the artist is the owners daughter I understand) that my children loved! There is plenty of room in the house and we found that it was a very relaxing retreat. The layout of the house is very livable (though the closet bathroom is a curious addition) and it makes for a relaxing and comfortable stay. We spend many hours late at night talking and playing cards in the screened-in patio and a ton of time in the pool!
Everything that you need is there. Previous renters have left many of the beach items you will need. We left things like a baby bath so that future renters with infants will have a tub to use for their child (there is no tub in the home, just showers). The owner graciously added high speed internet service for our last stay at my request.
The bottom line is that this is a comfortable, family place and we have stayed here several years in a row and will consider it for a portion of our vacation again this year!
