The apartment is located in Chiado between Largo de Camões and Largo Trindade Coelho, one of the noble areas of Lisbon downtown, with several main churches and museums to visit in the area. The growing of Chiado dates back to XVI century, during the reign of D. Sebastian, but most of Chiado was destroyed during the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. Rebuilt in the Pombalina era, Chiado kept its classical architecture till nowadays. The fire of 1988, led to a major renovation of classical buildings and stores such as the Art Noveaux building of the store Gradella, which lively the entire area. The growth of the press services brought a bohemian and artist character to Chiado, which has now a rich cultural center (Opera House, theaters, Museum of Modern Art, Carmo convent ruins), a noble shopping area and street entertainment. Here you will also find cafeterias, bookstores, museums, restaurants and famous Portuguese fashion shops.
